OBITUARIES:

Kathy Diane Holden

   (ROANOKE) Services for Kathy Dianne Holden, 44, of Roanoke were Friday, March 2, 
2001, at 2 p.m. at Fellowship Baptist Church, with the Revs. Shannon Mapp, Cecil Halsey 
and Louie Olds officiating.  Burial was in the church cemetery.
   Mrs. Holden died Wednesday, Feb 28, at her home.
   A Randolph County resident most of her life, Mrs. Holden was born Jan. 16, 1957, 
daughter of Frank Junior and Hazel Mapp Owens.  She was a member of Fellowship 
Baptist Church and had been employed with Wal-Mart.
   Survivors include her husband, Bobby Holden of Roanoke; her mother, Hazel Owens of 
Roanoke; three sisters, Janice May and Sherry Henry of Roanoke and Martha Puckett of 
Franklin, Ga.; two brothers, Frankie Owens and Michael Owens of Roanoke; and several 
nieces and nephews.
   Pallbearers were Sammy Edwards, Randy Edwards, Ricky Edwards, Glenn Echols, 
Kenny Echols Benjie Mapp, Jonathan Mapp and Shannan Brown.
   Arrangements were by Quattlebaum Funeral Home, Roanoke.

John Herschel Lauderdale

   (WADLEY) Services for John Herschel Lauderdale, 74, of Wadley will be on 
Wednesday, March 7, 2001, at 11 a.m. at Malone Baptist Church, with the Rev. 
Thompson Pitts officiating.  Burial will follow in the Malone Cemetery.
   Mr. Lauderdale died Sunday, March 4, at University Hospital in Birmingham.
   He was born in Chambers County on Oct. 17, 1926, so of William Perry and Lula Pearl 
Gillenwaters Lauderdale.  He was a Navy veteran, had been employed as a machinist, and 
was a member of Malone Baptist Church.
   Survivors include his wife, Geneva Lauderdale of Wadley; three daughters, Lynn 
Puckett of Roanoke, Susan Otto of Valley and Pam Jenkins of Nickerson, Kan.; four sons, 
Roy Pinkard, Donnie Lauderdale and Harold Lauderdale, all of Valley, and Rusty Smith of 
Dadeville; three sisters, Kate Templeton, Georgia Turner and Luanne Rudd, all of Valley; 
and 13 grandchildren.
   Mr. Lauderdale will lie in state at the church for one hour beginning at 10 a.m. on 
Wednesday.
   Pallbearers will be Russell Ehrlich, Cass Engstrom, Roy Pinkard, Monte Nunn, Sonny 
Noles and Vernon Lashley.
   Arrangements are by Quattlebaum Funeral Home, Roanoke.

Allene Pittman Moore

   (ROANOKE) Services for Allene Pittman Moore, 77, of Roanoke will be on 
Wednesday, March 7, 2001, at 2 p.m. at High Pine Baptist Church, with the Revs. Bobby 
Kirby and Glenn Brand officiating.  Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery.
   Mrs. Moore died Monday, March 5, at her home following an extended illness.
   She was born in McNairy County, Tenn., on April 5, 1923, daughter of Albert Sidney 
and Jenny Dixon Pittman.  She had been employed at Butte Knit Company and was a 
member of High Pine Baptist Church.  She was preceded in death by her husband, John 
W. Moore, and a daughter, Setina Moore.
   Survivors include three daughters, Marie Moore, Olivia House and Carolyn Shelnutt, all 
of Roanoke; a son, Sidney Moore of Roanoke; four sisters, Stella Knight and Lorine 
Malone of Mickey, Tenn., and June Bass and Frances Dunn of Corinth, Miss.; a brother, 
Joe Pittman of Liberty, Miss.; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
   Mrs. Moore will lie in state at the church for one hour beginning at 1 p.m. on 
Wednesday.
   Pallbearers will be Render Yarbrough, James Kirby, Dale Knight, Jackie Pittman, 
Charlie Moore Jr. and Junior Holloway.
   Arrangements are by Quattlebaum Funeral Home, Roanoke.

Mary Louise Thrower

   (LANETT) Mary Louise Thrower, 71, of Lanett died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001, at Lanier 
Memorial Hospital.
   Mrs. Thrower was born Sept. 11, 1929, in Alabama.  She had retired from Amoco 
Fabrics and Fibers Company's Roanoke Mills and was a charter member of Lanier Baptist 
Church.
   Surviving are two daughters, Mary Beth Thrower and Ann Hanner of Lanett; a son, 
Jerry Lee Thrower of Lanett; four sisters, Bertha Mae Bishop of Opelika, Louise Weldon 
and Shirley Owens of Lanett, and Dot Williams of Valley; five brothers, Cecil Moore and 
Jimmy Moore of LaGrange, Ga., Curtis Moore and Tommy Moore of Lanett; three 
grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
   Services were at Lanier Baptist Church at 1 p.m. EST on Thursday, March 1, with 
burial in Hillcrest Cemetery.  The Rev. Michael Hawkins officiated.
   Memorial donations may be made to the Lanier Baptist Church Building Fund.
   Arrangements were by Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home, Lanett.

Joe Terrell Hester

   (ROANOKE) Services for Joe Terrell Hester, 74, of Roanoke were Monday, March 5, 
2001, at 1 p.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Richard Richie officiating.  
Burial was at High Pine Baptist Church Cemetery.
   Mr. Hester died Saturday, March 3, at Hospice LaGrange.
   A Randolph County native, Mr. Hester was born Jan. 13, 1927, son of William L. and 
Fannie Smith Hester.  He was a self-employed carpenter.
   Survivors include four daughters, Joann Parmer of Roanoke, Kathie Braswell of 
Hickory, N.C., and Debra Sunday and Tina Heggood of Cincinnati, Ohio; three sons, 
William O. Hester and Joe T. Hester Jr. of Lanett and William Hardy Hester of Roanoke; 
19 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
   Pallbearers were Sam Sunday, Chuck Lashley, Jeff Storey, Mark Heggood, Matthew 
Heggood and Ricky Hill.
   Arrangements were by Quattlebaum Funeral Home, Roanoke.

Ruby S. Pickard

   (COLBERT, Ga.) Ruby S. Pinckard, 80, of Colbert, Ga., died Thursday, March 1, 2001.
   A native of Randolph County, Ala., and a resident of Colbert since 1953, Mrs. Pinckard 
was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Leola Ward Stephens and was the widow of 
Edgar W. Pinckard.  She was retired from ASCS in Danielsville, Ga., and was a member 
of Kings Way Bible Church in Comer, Ga.
   Services were at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 3, in the chapel of Lord & Stephens Funeral 
Home, Danielsville, with the Rev. Gordon Rhoden officiating.  Burial was in Randolph 
Memory Gardens, Roanoke, at 3 p.m. CST. 
   Survivors include one son, Jim Pinckard of Colbert; three sisters, Frances Carden and 
Ethel Ferguson of Anniston and Mary Daniel of Auburn; two grandchildren; and two 
great-grandchildren.
   Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
   Arrangements were by Lord & Stephens Madison Chapel, Danielsville.

Annie Laura Aikens

   (LANETT) Annie Laura Aikens, 81, of Lanett died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001, at her 
residence.
   Mrs. Aikens was born in Chambers County on June 12, 1919.  She was a homemaker 
and attended Lanett First Church of the Nazarene.
   Survivors include two daughters, Jean Brooks and Dot Brumbeloe of Lanett; a son, 
James Glyn Aikens of Valley; two sisters, Resa Patterson of Lanett and Irene Morehouse 
of Mt. Vernon, Ga.; three brothers, Brady Roberts of Penton, Frank Roberts of Roanoke 
and George Roberts of Valley; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildrena and four 
great-great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Bonnie Aikens.
   Services wre at Lanett First Church of the Nazarene at 3 p.m. EST on Thursday, March 
1, with burial in Resthaven Cemetery.  The Rev. Robert Huff officiated.
   Memorial donations may be made to Chattahoochee Hospice.

Ida Octava Alsabrook

   (ROANOKE) Services for Ida Octava Alsabrook, 87, of Roanoke were Saturday, 
March 10, 2001, at 11 p.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel, with the Revs. S. T. Janney 
and Thurman Hamlet officiating.  Burial was at Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery.
   Mrs. Alsabrook died Wednesday, March 7, at Hospice LaGrange in LaGrange, Ga.
   She was born in Heard County, Ga., on Sept. 6, 1913, daughter of Noah and Mary 
Prestridge Causey.  She was a homemaker and a member of Beulah Baptist Church.  She 
was preceded in death by her husband, John Henry Alsabrook.
   Survivors include two sons, Henry Alsabrook of Prattville and Donald Alsabrook of 
Roanoke; a brother, Austin Causey of Warner Robins, Ga.; six grandchildren and 12 
great-grandchildren.
   Pallbearers will be Tom Alsabrook, Dan Alsabrook, Richard Alsabrook, Chris Dana, Art 
Dana and Mark Mitchell.

Rosalia Allen

   (LAFAYETTE) Rosalia Allen, 87, of LaFayette died Wednesday, March 7, 2001, at 
East Alabama Medical Center, Opelika.
   She was given a private burial with interment in Mountain Springs Church Cemetery, 
Wadley.
   Survivors include two sisters, Frances Burlett of Marreo, La., and Victoria Hebert of 
New Orleans, La.; two sisters-in-law, Lois Phillips of LaFayette and Wyllowdean Hendrix 
of Dadeville; and many nieces and nephews.
   Mrs. Allen was a native of Baldwin County, born Sept. 4, 1913.  She was a retired 
nurse's aide and was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Allen.
   Arrangements were by Jeff Jones Funeral Home, LaFayette.

William Curtis Leonard Sr.

   (NEWELL) Services for William Curtis Leonard Sr., 68, of Newell were Thursday, 
March 8, 2001, at 2 p.m. at Oak Grove Church of Christ, with Brother W. C. Cofield and 
the Rev. Leron Murphy officiating.  Burial was in the church cemetery.
   Mr. Leonard died Tuesday, March 6, at Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center in 
Anniston.
   He was born in Chambers County on March 12, 1932, son of William Lincoln and Mary 
Bell Smith Leonard.  He was employed at Honeywell and General Electric, attended 
Alabama Military Academy, was a member of the National Guard, and was manager of a 
youth farm league team at Oxford.  He was a member of Oak Grove Church of Christ.  He 
was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Barney Lamar Smith, and a sister, 
Jacqueline Marie Leonard.
   Survivors include his wife, Faye Leonard of Newell; a daughter, Stacey Andrea Waite of 
Tucson, Ariz.; a son, William Curtis Leonard Jr. of Cumming, Ga.; and two grandchildren.
   Pallbearers were Harold Whitaker, Danny Joe McCord, Steve Whitaker, Eric McCord, 
Dan Whitaker and John Paul Shelnutt.
   Arrangements were by Benefield Funeral Home, Wedowee.

Josephine Hendrix Franco

   (KENNER, La.) Josephine Hendrix Franco, 66, of Kenner, La., died at her home of 
metastatic ovarian cancer.
   Mrs. Franco was the wife of the late Enriquie Franco and daughter of the late Elbert and 
Addie V. Hendrix of Randolph County, Ala.  Surviving are two daughters, Maria Franco 
Bagby and Lisa Marquerita Franco Gaudin; two grandchildren; one step-grandchild; and a 
sister, Lorene Hendrix Browning.
   Born in Wehadkee, she graduated from Randolph County High School in 1952 and 
Anniston Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in September 1955.  She became a 
registered nurse in November 1955 and in April 1956 was commissioned as a second 
lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force Nurse Corps.   She married Enrique Franco of San 
Antonio, Texas, in 1961 and moved to Kenner, La., with her family in 1974.  She was 
employed by East Jefferson General Hospital until her retirement in April 1999.  She 
received a bachelor of science in 1983 from St. Francis Xavier University.  She was a life 
member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary and a charter member of the Women 
In Military Service for America Memorial.  She was a member of the Southern Poverty 
Law Center and the National Arbor Society and a avid supporter of Habitat for Humanity.
   Graveside services and interment with militay honors were given at Fort Sam Houston 
National Cemetery in San Antonio on Feb. 26.  Contributions in her memory are 
appreciated to Southern Poverty Law Center, Habitat for Humanity and National Arbor 
Society.
   Arrangements were by Angelus Funeral Home, San Antonio.

Carolyn Flanary

   (FIVE POINTS) Carolyn Flanary, 59, of Five Points died Friday, March 9, 2001, at her 
residence.
   Mrs. Flanary was born in Fairfax on April 1, 1941, daughter of the late Annie Pearl 
Haralson White and Herbert White.  She was formerly employed with Duracell in 
LaGrange, Ga., and was a member of Fredonia Community Holiness Church.
   Surviving are her husband, Kenneth Flanary; a daughter, Kim Flanary Price of Rosewell, 
Ga.; five sons, Randy Walters and Robert Walters of Anniston, Ricky Walters of Oxford, 
Rusty Flanary of Valley and Michael Flanary of Five Points; a sister, JoAnn Anglin of 
Valley; a brother, Wiley White of Carmichael, Calif.; and nine grandchildren.
   Services were Sunday, March 11, at 2 p.m. at Stateline Congregational Christian 
Church, with burial in the adjoining cemetery.  The Rev. A. W. Kent, the Rev. Johnny 
Nunnis and Sister Nancy Luke officiated.
   Arrangements were by Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home, Valley.

Janice Gourdouze

   (IDER) Janice Sue Breed Gourdouze, 47, of Ider died Thursday, March 8, 2001, Baptist 
Medical Center-Montclair in Birmingham.
   Services were Sunday, March 11, at 10 a.m. at Ider Baptist Church, with Bro. Chris 
Guinn officiating.  Burial was in Garden Hills Cemetery in Opelika.
   Survivors include her husband, Randall Gourdouze of Ider; two daughters, Alison Starr 
and Aimee Gourdouze of Auburn; her parents, Robert and Marilyn Breed of Abanda; a 
sister, Betsy Mitchell of Lineville; and one grandson.
   Mrs. Gourdouze was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Breed.  She was a 
member of Ider Baptist Church and choir and taught at Ider School for 21 years.
   Arrangements were by Corner Stone Funeral Chapel, Ider.

William Delmar Lewis

   (WOODLAND) Services for William Delmar Lewis, 94, of Woodland were Sunday, 
March 11, 2001, at 2 p.m. CST at Flat Rock Congregational Methodist Church, with the 
Rev. Ernest Lipham and the Rev. Leron Murphy officiating.  Burial was in the adjoining 
cemetery.
   Mr. Lewis died Friday, March 9, at Traylor Nursing Home in Roanoke.
   Mr. Lewis was a native of Heard County, Ga., born March 9, 1907, son of Wiley 
Edward Lewis and Emma Rice Lewis.  He had been a self-employed farmer and carpenter.  
He was a member of Flat Rock Congregational Methodist Church.
   Mr. Lewis is survived by his wife, Era Bailey Lewis of Woodland; a son, William T. 
Lewis of Woodland; a sister, Mary Meadows of LaGrange, Ga.; two brothers, Luther 
Lewis of Woodland and George Lewis of Smiths; four grandchildren; and 10 
great-grandchildren.
   Pallbearers were Keith Lewis, Tommy Lewis, Clarence Lewis, George Lewis Jr., Ricky 
Bailey, Greg Bailey, Calvin Meadows and Derrick Wilson.
   Arrangements were by Benefield Funeral Home, Wedowee.

Ethel Denney Hill

   (EUGENE, Ore.) Ethel Denney Hill, 88, died at home in Eugene, Ore., Feb. 18, 2001, 
of heart failure.
   She was born Oct. 12, 1912, in Lineville to Henry and Ellen Dingler Denney.  She 
married Oliver Hill in Myrtle Point, Ore.  She graduated from Wadley High School and 
Gay Hospital in Roanoke.  She was a member of First Baptist Church of Eugene.
   Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Ellen Mahon of Eugene; four brothers, Idus, 
Luther and John Willis Denney of LaGrange, Ga., and Clarence Denney of Luthersville, 
Ga.; two sisters, Mildred Rush of North Bend, Ore., and Ann Anderson of Nashville, 
Tenn.; and two grandchildren.
   Services were Feb. 22 at Poole-Larson Funeral Home, and burial was in Rest Haven 
Memorial Garden in Eugene.

William Hettie Bowen

   (VALLEY) Graveside services for William Hettie Bowen, 75, of Valley will be 
Wednesday, March 14, 2001, at 2 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery with the 
Rev. Donald Spradlin officiating.
   Mr. Bowen died Monday, March 12, at the VA Hospital in Tuskegee.
   A former resident of Wedowee, he was born in Randolph County on Oct. 11, 1925, son 
of Zachariah and Sara Hill Bowen.  He was a Navy veteran of World War II, had been 
employed with Diversified Products Company, and was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist 
Church.  He was preceded in death by his wife Lonie B. Bowen.
   Survivors include two daughters, Peggy Puckett of Valley and Carolyn McCord of 
Arab; a sister Effilene Stallings of Woodland; four grandchildren and six great- 
grandchildren.
   Pallbearers will be Tim Holloway, Freddie Payne, Lamar Payne, Larry Bowen, Ronnie 
Elliott, Jack Stallings and Troy Stallings.
   Arrangements are by Benefield Funeral Home, Wedowee.

Eva Lou Washburn

   (VALLEY) Eva Lou Washburn, 87, of Valley died Monday, March 13, 2001, at 
Randolph County Hospital, Roanoke.
   Mrs. Washburn  was born in Newell on Oct. 13, 1913, daughter of the late Lena Rivers 
Bell Williams and the late David Franklin Williams.  She had been a resident of the Valley 
area since 1937.  She was a hospital volunteer and was formerly employed with West 
Point Pepperell's Fairfax and Opelika mills.  She was a member of Fairfax First Baptist 
Church and Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter #247.
   Mrs. Washburn is survived by a brother, Warren Williams of Newell.
   Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. EST on Wednesday, March 14, at Garden Hill 
Cemetery in Opelika, with the Rev. Rusty Letson officiating.
   Arrangements are by Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home, Valley.

Helen Butler Moses

   (ROANOKE) Services for Helen Butler Moses, 71, of Roanoke will be Wednesday, 
March 14, 2001, at 2 p.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel, with Dr. Douglas Turner 
officiating.  Burial will follow at Randolph Memory Gardens.
   Mrs. Moses died Tuesday, March 13, at Hospice LaGrange in LaGrange, Ga.
   A lifelong resident of Randolph county, she was born Aug. 11, 1929, daughter of Sylvan 
Warner Butler and Lena Noles Butler.  She was employed as secretary to the dean of 
instruction at Southern Union State Community College, and was a member of Roanoke 
First Baptist Church.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Bob Moses.
   Survivors include a daughter, Sylvia French of Opelika; a son, Robert "Bob" Moses of 
Auburn; a brother, Kermit Butler of Roanoke; and two grandchildren.
   Arrangements are by Quattlebaum Funeral Home, Roanoke.

Curtis Homer Adcock

   (ROANOKE) Services for Curtis Homer Adcock, 89, of Roanoke were Thursday, 
March 15, 2001, at 2 p.m. at Rock Stand Congregational Christian Church, with the Revs. 
Kenneth Johnson and Gary Baugh officiating.  Burial was in the adjoining church 
cemetery.
   Mr. Adcock died Tuesday, March 13, at Traylor Nursing Home, Roanoke.
   A lifelong resident of Randolph County, Mr. Adcock was born Oct. 4, 1911, son of 
Tom Luther and Lura Clark Adcock.  He had been employed as a carpenter with Gerald 
Romine Construction and was a member of Rock Stand Congregational Christian Church.  
He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlene Adcock.
   Survivors include a daughter, Joyce Sanders of Roanoke; a son, Virgil Adcock of 
Piedmont; two sisters, Lillian Adcock and Ora Treadwell of Roanoke; a brother, Durward 
Adcock of Roanoke; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
   Pallbearers were Jeff Adcock, Gary Taylor, Rusty Sanders, Phillip Battles, Terry 
Dunlap, Dennis Finley and Wayne Adams.
   Arrangements were by Quattlebaum Funeral Home, Roanoke.

Catherine Lee

   (ROANOKE) Catherine Lee, 74, of 470 County Road 887, Roanoke, died Monday, 
March 12, 2001, at her residence.
   Services were Saturday, March 17, at 2 p.m. at Peace and Goodwill Baptist Church, 
Roanoke, with the Rev. L. B. Houston, pastor, officiating.  Burial was in the adjoining 
cemetery.
   Survivors include a son, James E. Lee of Roanoke; an uncle, Rufus Burroughs of 
Roanoke; three aunts, Mattie Burroughs of Roanoke, Ethel Higgins of Chattanooga, 
Tenn., and Lillie Mae Higgins of Milltown; two grandchildren; one great-grandson; and 
several nieces, nephews and cousins.
   Ms. Lee was the daughter of the late Jimmie and Ollie H. Burroughs and widow of the 
late Jim Tom Lee.  She was a member of long standing of Peace and Goodwill Baptist 
Church, Roanoke, where she was dutiful in serving on the Usher Board.
   Arrangements were by Clark Memorial Funeral Service, Roanoke.

Wallace Franklin Noles

   (GRAHAM) Services for Wallace Franklin Noles, 56, of Graham were Monday, March 
19, 2001, at 2 p.m. EST at Bethlehem Campground United Methodist Church, Graham, 
with the Revs. Lewis Cushing, Charles Benefield, Chuck Jaggers and Andy Fordham 
officiating.  Burial was in the church cemetery.
   Mr. Noles died Saturday, March 17, at Tanner Medical Center in Carrollton, Ga.
   Born Oct. 16, 1944, in Randolph County, Mr. Noles had worked as a truck driver for 
Southwire Corporation.  He was a member of the Potter's House Assembly of God and 
the son of the late Cliff M. and Flora I. Dewberry Noles.
   Survivors include his wife Peggy Wiggins Noles of Graham; one son, Keith Noles of 
Graham; one daughter, Kim Jeffers of Graham; three brothers, Cecil, Jerry and Roy Noles, 
all of Graham; one half-brother, Garlin Hornsby of Ranburne; one sister, Helen Pollard of 
Ranburne; one half-sister, Gladys Dewberry of Graham; and eight grandchildren.
   Arrangements were by Rainwater & West Funeral Home Inc.

James Elmer Scott

   (ROANOKE) Funeral services for James Elmer Scott, 90, of Roanoke, will be held on 
Thursday, March 22, 2001, at 11 a.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel.  Burial will follow 
at Taylor's Crossroads Church of Christ Cemetery.
   Mr. Scott passed away Tuesday, March 20, 2001, at Randolph Medical Center in 
Roanoke.
   He was born in Chambers County on Feb 9, 1911, son of Otis and Atta Pike Scott.  He 
had been employed at Handley Manufacturing Company and was a member of Taylor's 
Crossroads Church of Christ.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Ila Scott.
   Survivors include a daughter, Cindy Tidwell of Roanoke; three sons, Randall Scott and 
Mark Scott, both of Roanoke, and Harold Scott of Powder Springs, Ga.; three sisters, 
Margaret Cofield and Myrtice Baldwin, both of Roanoke, and Mary Freeman of Valley; 
fourteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
   Pallbearers will be grandchildren.
   Quattlebaum Funeral Home of Roanoke is in charge of arrangements.

Braxton John Sprayberry

   (GRAHAM) Braxton John Sprayberry, 72, of 866 County Rd. 9, Graham, died 
Wednesday, March 14, 2001, at Clay County Hospital.
   Mr. Sprayberry was born July 10, 1928, in Clay County, son of the late J. W. and Annie 
Newell Sprayberry.  He was retired as a tree surgeon and was a member of Pine Grove 
Baptist Church.
   Survivors include his wife, Vera Lucille Parker Sprayberry of Graham; three sons, Billy 
Joe Sprayberry and Stanley Wayne Sprayberry of Bowdon, Ga., and Matt Sprayberry of 
Hamilton, Ala.; a daughter, Sandra Kay Camp of Byron, Ga.; three brothers, Garrison 
Sprayberry of Delta, Jimmy Sprayberry of Tucson, Ariz., and Fred Sprayberry of 
Birmingham; three sisters, Nell Cuberson of Easley, S.C., Flossie Mae Lozar of Taylor, 
S.C., and Geneva Taylor of Greenville, S.C.; six grandchildren and two great- 
grandchildren.
   Services were at noon on Friday, March 16, at Pine Grove Baptist Church, with the 
Rev. Donald Spradlin and the Rev. T. J. Morgan officiating.  Burial was in the church 
cemetery.
   Pallbearers were Richard Vaughn, Billy Hester, Ruben Sprayberry, Tim Sprayberry, 
Barry Sprayberry and Chad Adams.
   Arrangements were by Rainwater and West Funeral Home, Bowdon.

OBITUARIES:

Henry Dave Rushton

   (ROANOKE) Services for Henry Dave Rushton, 80, of Roanoke were Monday, March 
26, 2001, at 11 a.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Cecil Halsey 
officiating.  Burial was at Bethel East Baptist Church Cemetery.
   Mr. Rushton died Saturday, March 24, at Heritage House in Roanoke.
   A native and lifelong resident of Randolph County, Mr. Rushton was born Jan. 24, 
1921, son of Charlie and Pearle Benefield Rushton.  He was a World War II Army 
veteran, a member of Springfield Baptist Church, and had retired from Handley Mills.  He 
was preceded in death by his wife, Millie Cofield Rushton.
   Survivors include two sons, John Rushton of LaFayette and Hoyt Rushton of LaGrange, 
Ga.; three grandsons and four great-grandchildren.
   Pallbearers were Bill Rushton, Byron Rushton, Barry Cofield, Wendell Herren, Andy 
Herren and Jamie Burdette,
   Arrangements were by Quattlebaum Funeral Home, Roanoke.

Maxine Lipham Wakefield

   (NEWELL) Services for Maxine Lipham Wakefield, 58, of Newell were Tuesday, 
March 27, at 2 p.m. at Firt United Methodist Church of Wedowee, with the Rev. Gary 
Henderson and Dr. Harris officiating.  Burial was in Wedowee City Cemetery.
   Mrs. Wakefield died Sunday, March 25, at her home following an extended illness.
   A native of Randolph County, she was born May 14, 1942, daughter of Woodrow and 
Nettie Creed Lipham.  She was employed as a nurse at Wedowee Hospital, had been a 
member and officer in the Gideons Auxiliary, and attended First United Methodist Church 
in Wedowee.
   Survivors include her husband, Grady M. Wakefield of Newell; her mother, Nettie 
Lipham James of Newell; two step-daughters, Debbie Williamson of Gainesville, Fla., and 
Nancy Wakefield of Blountstown, Fla.; a sister, Shirley Rollins of Woodland; a brother, 
Dall Lipham of Newell; two step-grandchildren; two nieces; two nephews; and one 
great-niece and three great-nephews.
   Memorial donations can be made to the Gideons, c/o Delmour Green, 546 College St., 
Roanoke, AL 36274.
   Pallbearers were Billy Fred Lipham, Tom Burnside, Billy Cofield, Grady Daniel, Russell 
Huddleston, Richard Laird, Mack Diamond and Jack Shelton.
   Arrangements were by Benefield Funeral Home, Wedowee.
