OBITUARIES:

Gale Mitchell Nichols

   (ROANOKE) Services for Gale Mitchell Nichols, 88, of Roanoke will be Wednesday, April 6, 2005, at 11 a.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel.  Burial will follow at Randolph Memory Gardens.
   Mrs. Nichols died Monday, April 4, at Roanoke Health Care.
   Survivors include two daughters, Thelma Sledge and Myria Armitage of Roanoke; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Rubie Cole and Becky Prescott of Roanoke; and one brother, Manley Mitchell of LaGrange, Ga.
   Pallbearers will be Alvin Prescott, Barry Cole, Pete Mitchell, Jimmy Peek, Wayne Nichols and Mike Mitchell.
   Mrs. Nichols was born March 26, 1917, daughter of Malcus and Rebecca Smith Mitchell.  She was a founding member of Southside Baptist Church and retired from Playtex Corp.  Mrs. Nichols was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Elmar Nichols.

Irene B. Shears

   (ROANOKE) Irene B. Shears, 71, of Roanoke died Wednesday, March 30, 2005, at Randolph Medical Center, Roanoke.
   Services were Friday, April 1, at 11 a.m. at Bethel United Methodist Church, Roanoke, with the Rev. Tommie L. Finley and Elder John C. Greathouse officiating.  Burial was in Skyview Memorial Gardens.
   Survivors include two stepdaughters, Diane Tigner of Roanoke and Ruby Neil Glenn of Franklin, Ga.; a special aunt, Ida Mae Miller of West Point, Ga.; special friends, Velma Keeler and Christine Blake of Roanoke; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie B. Shears; and a son, Roy L. Tate.

Ione Carpenter Herren

   (WOODLAND) Services for Ione Carpenter Herren, 86, of Woodland were Saturday, April 2, 2005, at 2 p.m. at Pine Hill Christian Church, with Bro. Ralph Posey and Bro. Randy Knight officiating.  Burial followed in Herren's Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
   Mrs. Herren died Thursday, March 31, at Tanner Medical Center, Carrollton, Ga.
   Mrs. Herren is survived by one daughter, Jane Merrill of Woodland; two sons, Tommy Herren and Steve Herren of Woodland; one brother, Sam Carpenter Jr.; five sisters, Joyce Davis and Sara Turner of Wedowee, Ruth Childress of Roanoke, Ermis Wingard of Birmingham and Sue Andress of Brewton; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
   Pallbearers were Wesley Herren, Jason Merrill, Heath Mitchell, Brit Lovvorn, Chandler Poston, Scott Edwards and Matt Herren.
   Mrs. Herren was born Jan. 22, 1919, daughter of S. W. and Effie Washington Carpenter.  She was a member and treasurer of Pine Hill Christian Church, a school teacher in elementary education, held Bible study for women's ministries at Randolph County Jail, and was a member of the Woodland Senior Citizens Group.  Mrs. Herren was preceded in death by her husband, Horace Herren; and three sisters, Mozell and Louise Carpenter and Mildred Hester.

Earnest Eugene Johnson

   (GRAHAM) Services for Earnest Eugene Johnson, 91, of Graham were Monday, April 4, 2005, at 2 p.m. at Benefield Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Tony Morris officiating.  Burial followed in Pine Hill Church of Christ Cemetery.
   Mr. Johnson died Saturday, April 2, at Carrollton Manor, Carrollton, Ga.
   Mr. Johnson is survived by three sisters-in-law, Eris Holmes, Dean Lovvorn and Louise Lovvorn of Newell; special caregivers Wayne and Glenda Lovvorn of Graham; and a number of nieces and nephews.
   Pallbearers were Fred Taylor, Mitch Lovvorn, Steven Ledbetter, Billy Capes, Jack Simpson, Ray Capes and Kenneth Spratlin.
   Mr. Johnson was born March 20, 1914, son of Will and Ellen Sewell Johnson.  He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church, a poultry farmer, and a retired textile cutter with Breman & Bowdon Investment.  Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Johnson.

Linda Jean Ginn

   (JACKSONVILLE) Services for Linda Jean Ginn, 63, of Jacksonville will be Wednesday, April 6, 2005, at 2 p.m. at Chapel Hill Funeral Home with the Rev. Daniel Harper officiating.  Burial will be in Anniston Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. Chapel Hill Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
   Mrs. Ginn died at her residence on Monday, April 4.
   Survivors include her husband, Hugh Charles Ginn of Jacksonville; two daughters, Tammy Ginn of Woodland and Theresa Pike of Eastaboga; a son, Barry Ginn of Prince George, Va.; a brother, Bill Nelson; and a grandson.
   Pallbearers will be Paul Dean, David Romines, Mike O'Connor, Mike Gann, Tommy Chilton, Tommy Munroe, George Walker and Wayne Rhodes.	
   Mrs. Ginn was a lifelong resident of Calhoun County.  She was a homemaker and a member of Saks Baptist Church.

Pamela Yvette Whitlow

   (ROANOKE) Pamela Yvette Whitlow, 34, of Roanoke died Friday, April 1, 2005, at Randolph Medical Center, Roanoke.
   Services will be Friday, April 8, at 2 p.m. at New Harmony Baptist Church, LaFayette, with the Rev. Jerome Trammell and the Rev. William Phillips officiating.  Burial will be in Skyview Memorial Gardens.
   Survivors include her husband, Roy L. Whitlow Sr. of Opelika; her father, John Culbertson of Lithonia, Ga.; her mother, Nora Slay of Roanoke; a son, Roy Lincoln Whitlow Jr. of Roanoke; two daughters, Sophilia Yvette Whitlow and Jacilia Monique Whitlow of Roanoke; two brothers, John Culbertson Jr. and Deon Culbertson of Lithonia; three sisters, Faye Slay and Kristy Watts of Roanoke and Shree Culbertson of Lithonia; her grandmother, Allean Culbertson of Roanoke; her mother-in-law, Bennie Mae Stenson of Opelika; and a special friend, Bernard Brown of Roanoke.
   Public viewing will be at Clark Memorial Funeral Service from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Thursday.  The body will be placed in the church one hour before the funeral.

Ava Carden Whitten

   (ROANOKE) Services for Ava Carden Whitten, 93, of Roanoke were Friday, April 1, 2005, at 3 p.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Alfred Ashworth officiating.  Burial followed at Mt. Zion Christian Church Cemetery.
   Mrs. Whitten died Wednesday, March 30, at Roanoke Health Care Center.
   Survivors include two daughters, Earnestine Williams of Roanoke and Gail Ashworth of Gallion; two brothers [sons], Rodger Whitten of Wadley and Johnny Whitten of Valley; eight grand-children; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; four adopted grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.
   Mrs. Whitten was born Feb. 6, 1912, daughter of Jim and Tina Swann Carden.  She was a member of Mt. Zion Christian Church and a housewife.  Mrs. Whitten was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Raymond Whitten; one grandchild, Samuel Ashworth; and one great-grandson, James Barnes.

Mae Wheeler

   (WADLEY) Mae Wheeler, 74, of County Road 62, Wadley, died Tuesday, March 29, 2005, at West Georgia Medical Center, LaGrange, Ga.
   Services were Saturday, April 2, at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Wadley, with the Rev. Cornelius Reese officiating.  Burial was in the church cemetery.
   Survivors include a son, Andrew Wheeler of Roanoke; a daughter, Helen Delaney of LaGrange, Ga.; three sisters, Beatrice Ellis of Chicago, Ill., Ophelene Battle of Roanoke and Rosa Staples of Wadley; two brothers, Lonnie Zachery of Wadley and Allen Zachery of Anniston; one grandson; three granddaughters; and two step-granddaughters.

William Amos Nichols

   (AUGUSTA, Ga.) Graveside services for William Amos Nichols, 82, of Augusta, Ga., formerly of Roanoke, were Tuesday, April 5, 2005 at 2 p.m. at Randolph Memory Gardens, with Bobby Gooden officiating.
   Mr. Nichols died Friday, April 1, at University Hospital in Augusta.
   Survivors include his wife, Ruth Gooden Nichols of Augusta; one brother, Gordon Nichols of Indianapolis, Ind.; three nieces; three nephews; and a special nurse, Deborah Rycaft.
   Mr. Nichols was born Aug. 27, 1922, son of Eddie Cole and Mary Freeman Nichols.  He was an army veteran of World War II, a member of Crawford Avenue Baptist Church in Augusta, and a nursing assistant at the V. A. Hospital.  He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Emmett Nichols.

Barron Johnson

   (HEFLIN) Services for Barron Johnson, 56, of Heflin were Sunday, April 3, 2005 at 3 p.m. at Pinetucky Baptist Church, with the Revs. Brian Moore and Rodney Hagan officiating.  Burial was in the adjoining cemetery.
   Mr. Johnson died Saturday, April 2, at his residence.
   Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife, Sue Gosdin Johnson of Heflin; one son, Barry Johnson of Heflin; two grandchildren; one sister, Elaine Nobbley of Texas; and three brothers, Rayford Johnson of Lineville, Charles Johnson of Wedowee and Douglas Johnson of Oxford.
   Pallbearers were Richard Sanders, Tim Messer, Bill Johnson, Randy Akins, Greg Benefield and Jimmy Jackson.
   Mr. Johnson was born Aug. 7, 1948, son of M.L. and Mattie Crews Johnson.  He was a member of Pinetucky Baptist Church, a self-employed construction worker and a Vietnam veteran of the U.S. Army.  He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Clayton Johnson.

Tony Ray Roundtree

   (HAMPTON, Ga.) Tony Ray Roundtree, 34, of Hampton, Ga., died Tuesday, March 29, 2005, at Wedowee Hospital.
   Services were Saturday, April 2, at 11 a.m. at Union Chapel United Methodist Church, Wedowee, with the Rev. William W. Crawford officiating.
   Survivors include his wife, Angela Roundtree of Hampton; his parents, Thomas and Jewell Wilson Roundtree of Wedowee; two daughters, Tanesha Green of LaGrange, Ga., and Shenae Strickland of Carrollton, Ga.; a stepson, Nicholas Meadows of Hampton; two stepdaughters, Cyntendrea Meadows and Shariah Esquivel of Hampton; a brother, Jimmy Lee Roundtree of Wedowee; and two sisters, Rosa Roundtree of Detroit, Mich., and Dorothy Jordan of Wedowee.

James Edgar Gore Sr.

   (ELLENTON, Fla.) Services for James Edgar Gore Sr., 70, of Ellenton, Fla., formerly of Woodland, will be Thursday, April 7, 2005, at 2 p.m. at Providence Baptist Church, with the Rev. David Daniel officiating.  Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery.
   The family will receive friends at Benefield Funeral Home in Wedowee from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday.  Mr. Gore died Sunday, April 3, at his home.
   Survivors include his wife, Peggy Hawkins Gore of Ellenton; five daughters, Martha Bentley of Bradenton, Fla., Rosa Lee Cox of Ellenton, and Virginia West, Carolyn Kirkland and Emma Perry of Palmetto, Fla.; three brothers, Jerry Gore of Woodland, Bob Gore of Colimblis [?], Ky., and Bill Gore of Eay [Eau] Claire, Wis.; 17 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
   Pallbearers will be Terry Jr. West, Dale James, Kenny Gore, Bryant Long, Jezz Hester and Dale Downing.
   Mr. Gore was born March 27, 1935, son of William and Rosa Lee Chandler Gore.  He was of the Baptist faith and was a welder with Southern Gas Corp.  Mr. Gore was preceded in death by one son, James Edgar Gore Jr. and three sisters, Louella Burpo, Willie Katherine Jones and Wanda Sue Kirchoff.

Charlie Browning

   (OPELIKA) Charlie Browning, 85, of Opelika died Tuesday, March 29, 2005, at Care Center of Opelika.
   Services were Thursday, March 31, at 2 p.m. at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley with the Rev. Jimmy Blackmon officiating.  Burial followed at Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
   Mr. Browning is survived by his wife, Gradie Bell Browning; two sons, Charles W. Browning of Augusta, Ga., and Donnie Browning of Opelika; eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
   Born March 13, 1920, in Randolph County, Mr. Browning was the son of the late Thomas Newton Browning and Itura Adamason Browning.  He was a veteran having served with the U.S. Navy during World War II.  Mr. Browning was the owner and operator of Browning Appliance Company.  He attended Shawmut Church of the Nazarene.
   The family respectfully declines the honor of flowers and asks that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Shawmut Church of the Nazarene in his memory.

Ruby Whaley Blevins

   (ELKMONT) Ruby Whaley Blevins, 83, went to meet her Heavenly Father late Thursday night, March 31, 2005, at her home in the company of some of her closest family.
   She was born on Jan. 4, 1922, in Wedowee, and later moved to Anniston, where she married Clarence H. Blevins.
   She is now at home in heaven with her husband and two daughters, Joan Brimer and Jean Blevins; also two sisters, Eva Woods and Eunice Brown; and two brothers, Emery and Orrie Whaley.
   She is lovingly remembered by one son, Lewis Blevins of Anniston; two sisters, Addie Robinson of Elkmont and Elnora Moses of Talladega; six grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren.
   According to her wishes there were both a private visitation and graveside service in Anniston on Sunday, April 3.

OBITUARIES:

Gladys Baxter Boyd

   (ROANOKE) Services for Gladys Baxter Boyd, 99, of Roanoke were Sunday, April 10, 2005, at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Roanoke with the Rev. Bill Dean officiating.  Burial will followed [follow] at Cedarwood Cemetery.
   Mrs. Boyd died Tuesday, April 5, at her residence.
   Survivors include one son-in-law, William R. Johnson of Huntsville; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and three loving caregivers, Gloria Watts, Annette Gibson and Irene Todd.
   Pallbearers will be Tommy Hendon, Jodie Hamner, Sam Shelnutt, Evan Manning, Drew Phillips, Pat Awbrey and Thomas McMurray.
   Mrs. Boyd was born Nov. 10, 1905, in Headland, daughter of Angus Alexander and Kathryn Currie Baxter.  After graduating from Montevallo College she came to Roanoke in 1927 where she taught in the Roanoke school system for 26 years.  In 1930 she married Judge Daniel Reid Boyd and in 1932 had one child, Catherine.  Catherine Boyd Johnson died in January of 1987, and Judge Dan Boyd died in April of 1987.  Mrs. Boyd wrote for The Randolph Leader for over 60 years, the society page Jots and Flashes. She said, I love to write for the Leader because I try to keep from getting senile. It makes me think.  Mrs. Boyd also contributed to the Birmingham News and Atlanta Journal/Constitution.  Her favorite pastime was playing bridge every Thursday.  She was the last original member of the group which started in 1931.
   Mrs. Boyd was the last surviving charter member of the Literary Club and was instrumental in establishing the Roanoke City Library, now Annie L. Awbrey Library.  She was a member of First Baptist Church of Roanoke, and once said she had served every office but preacher and janitor.  Mrs. Boyd served as district director of Alabama Federation of Women's Clubs, district leader for the WMU, and vice-president of the 6th district, Alabama Congress of Parents and Teachers.
   In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Catherine Boyd Johnson Scholarship, Columbia Theological Seminary, P.O. Box 520, Attn: Box 12, Decatur, GA 30030.

Alverd Jones Lane

   (OPELIKA) Graveside services for Alverd Jones Lane, 92, of Opelika, formerly of Roanoke, were at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 10, 2005, at Lane's Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery in Roanoke, with the Revs. Nick Holler and Donnie Erwin-Brown officiating.
   Mrs. Lane, who died Friday, April 8, was born in Columbus, Ga., Sept. 29, 1912, to the late John Anderson and Lola Alverd Jones.  She had lived in Florida, Roanoke and Lanett before coming to Opelika.  Mrs. Lane had a wonderful sense of humor and was known by many for making her own greeting cards known as Love Lane cards.  She enjoyed her family, friends, playing dominos and flowers.  Mrs. Lane was a member of Lanett United Methodist Church.
   Survivors include her son, Wyatt Carl Lane Jr. of Roanoke; a daughter, Barbara Beals of Opelika; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Dolphus C. 'Buddy' Williams

   (LANETT) Dolphus C. "Buddy" Williams, 70, of Lanett died Tuesday, April 5, 2005, at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika.
   Funeral services were Thursday, April 7, at 4 p.m. at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley with the Rev. Jimmy Brown officiating.  Burial followed at Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
   Mr. Williams is survived by his son, Kerry Williams of Beulah; two sisters, Frances Tapley of Alexander City and Marion Langley of Lanett; his brother, Dan Williams of Roanoke; three sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
   Mr. Williams was born April 12, 1934, in Tallapoosa County, the son of the late Fannie Odessa Cotney Williams and Dolphus B. Doc Williams.  He had formerly worked for Wellington Sears Utilization Plant in Fairfax.  Mr. Williams was a big University of Alabama football fan and Atlanta Braves baseball fan.  He enjoyed gospel singing.  He was of the Baptist faith.  Mr. Williams was preceded in death by his wife, Willie Sue Williams; his son, Rodney Williams; his brothers, Ralph, Austin and Ethan Williams; and his sister, Mary Pearl Lashley.
   Memorials may be made to Huguley Baptist Church in his memory.

Roseanna Gorden Smith

   (LAFAYETTE) Roseanna Gorden Smith, 79, of LaFayette died Wednesday, April 6, 2005, at her residence.
   Mrs. Smith was born in Dekalb, Miss., on Feb. 22, 1926.  She was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Five Points.
   Surviving are four sons, Jessie E. Brown of Chicago, Ill., and Perry Smith, Joseph F. Smith and John T. Smith Jr. of St. Louis, Mo.; four daughters, Shirley A. Sims of LaFayette, Helen Brown of Syracuse, NY., Morrine Ellis of Detroit, Mich., and Geraldine Smith of St. Louis; four sisters, Marchaline Brown of Balwin, Mich., Bertha Lawton of Chicago, and Cora Nash and Daisy Moore of Flint, Mich.; two brothers, Levell Gorden of Flint and Charlie Gorden of Detroit; and 17 grandchildren.
   Services will be at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church on Wednesday, April 13, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Cecelia Broome and the Rev. Ricky Cofield officiating.  Burial will be in Skyview Memorial Gardens, Welch.

Annie Jo Clegg

   (FORT MYERS, Fla.) Annie Jo Clegg, 69, of Fort Myers, Fla., died Monday, April 4, 2005 at her home.
   Mrs. Clegg was born Feb. 20,1936 in Roanoke, Ala., one of 10 children of the late Gordon and Bessie Morris.  She had resided in Fort Myers since 1957 and was employed as a secretary for Eurex Shutters in Lehigh Acres in Fort Myers.
   Surviving are her children, Sylvia Ann Knowles, Anita Skipper, Billie Jo, Louise Cheever and Macy June Waldron of Ft. Myers and Alfie Bolan Boyette of Pratville, Ala.; three brothers, Horace Morris of Clewiston, Fla., Buck Morris of Diana, Texas, and Jerry Morris of Ft. Myers; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.  She was the wife of the late John (Bill) Clegg.
   Services were Friday, April 8, at 2 p.m. at Ft. Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home.

Thomas J. O'Neal

   (HEFLIN) Services for Thomas J. O'Neal, 45, of Heflin were at 1 p.m. Monday, April 11, 2005, at Macedonia Baptist Church in Heflin, with the Rev. Clarence Brown officiating.  Burial was in Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery with Goodson Funeral Home in charge.
   Mr. O'Neal died Tuesday, April 5, at UAB in Birmingham.
   Survivors include his wife, Diane O'Neal of Anniston; three sons, Thomas O'Neal, Chadwick O'Neal and Denzel O'Neal, all of Munford; three daughters, Erica and Keria O'Neal of Talladega and Mariah O'Neal of Munford; a sister, Renee O'Neal of Heflin; two brothers, Lawrence O'Neal of Heflin and Alvin Lindsey of Lineville; his mother, Oretha Jordan of Heflin; and father, Charlie O'Neal of Wadley.  He was preceded in death by a brother, Nathaniel O'Neal.

Lester Lee Wyatt

   (ROANOKE) Services for Lester Lee Wyatt, 59, of Roanoke were Thursday, April 7, 2005, at 2 p.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with the Revs. Gary Baugh, Mickey Skipper and Scott McKay officiating.  Burial followed at Gray Hill Church of God Cemetery.
   Mr. Wyatt died Tuesday, April 5, at the University of Alabama-Birmingham Hospital.
   Survivors include his wife, Brenda D. Wyatt of Roanoke; two sons, Darrin Lee Wyatt of Titusville, Fla., and Jeffery Scott Wyatt of Roanoke; two sisters, Pat Drake of Roopville, Ga., and Jean Kesler of Carrollton, Ga.
   Pallbearers were Ryan Kessler, John Parmer, Chris Garcia, Micky Garcia, Jeremy Kessler, Larry Stewart, Ken Brooks and Keith Parmer.
   Mr. Wyatt was born Oct. 30, 1945, son of George Franklin and Mary Ruth Harper Wyatt.  He was a member of Handley Avenue Church of God, an extruder operator for Southwire and served in the U.S. Army.

   (CARROLLTON, Ga.) Zannie Davis Jordan, 85, of Carrollton, Ga., formerly of Graham, died Monday, April 11, 2005.
   Mrs. Jordan was born July 6, 1919, in Cleburne County to the late Columbus Davis and Tilitha Hughes Davis.  She was a retired LPN, having worked for Tanner Medical Center for 15 years, and was a member of Mt. Holly Church of God.
   Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eueal Cleve Jordan; a son, David Jordan; a sister, Olene Reed; three brothers, Otis Davis, Areal Davis and Elbert Davis; and a great-granddaughter.
   Survivors include four daughters, Betty Boatright of Carrollton, Martha Sailor of Graham, Joyce Davison of Carrollton and Debbie Thomas of Mt. Zion, Ga.; a son, Harold Jordan of Carrollton; a sister, Lillie Reed of Carrollton; 15 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
   Services will be Wednesday, April 13, at 2 p.m. at Mt. Holly Church of God, with Bishop Evette Guyton and the Rev. Cecil Davis officiating.    Music will be by Jeff and Stephanie Maxwell and Debbie Paul.  Pallbearers will be David Jordan, Mark Sailors, Richy Hutchens, Michael Hite, Christopher Hutchens and Danny Jordan.  Interment will follow in Little Vine Cemetery.  Mrs. Jordan will lie in state at the church from 1:30 p.m. until the funeral.

Ernest T. Keeble

   (LAKELAND, Fla.) Ernest T. Keeble, 87, of Lakeland, Fla., died Sunday, April 10, 2005, at Wedgewood Healthcare Center, Lakeland.
   Mr. Keeble was born Sept. 6, 1917, in Randolph County, Ala.  He moved to Garland from Roanoke in 1959.  He was employed by Publix and was a member New Beginnings Baptist Church.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Keeble.	
   Surviving are three sons, Bobby G. Keeble and Jacky E. Keeble of Lakeland and Charles D. Keeble of Tampa, Fla.; one daughter, Harriett E. Johnson of Lakeland; 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.	
   Graveside services were Tuesday, April 12, at 11:30 at Oak Hill Burial Park.

Mildred Jeanette Earnest

   (WADLEY) Mildred Jeanette Earnest, 94, of Wadley died Monday, April 18, 2005 at Beverly Health Care, Lanett.
   Miss Earnest was a native of Randolph County, born Jan. 1, 1911.  She was a member of First Baptist Church of Wadley.  She had been in declining health for the past several years.
   Surviving are a sister, Mary Emily Ellis of Valley; a brother, William M. Earnest of West Palm Beach, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Carl Earnest of Valley; and several nieces and nephews.
   Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. EDT on Thursday, April 21, at Fairfax Cemetery.  The Rev. Raymond Alexander will officiate.

Amelia Gayle Vinson White

   Mrs. White died Wednesday, April 13, at her home.
   Mrs. White is survived by her husband, John David White of Wedowee; three sons, David White, Michael White and Mark White of Wedowee; one sister, Camelia Bryant of Anniston; one brother, Dwain Vinson of Oxford, Miss.; and six grandchildren.

Charles 'Red' Ingram

   (VALLEY) Charles Red Ingram, 81, of Valley died Tuesday, April 12, 2005, at East Alabama Medical Center, Opelika.
   Mr. Ingram was born in Tallapoosa County on July 3, 1923, son of the late Amber Bell Duck Ingram and William Davis Ingram.  He was an Army veteran of World War II and a retired employee of West Point Pepperrell's Fairfax Mill.  He was a member of Fairfax First Baptist Church and Woodman of the World.
   Surviving are his wife, Mary Frances Ballard Ingram; three sisters, Olivia Miller of Beulah, Helen Ingram of Long Beach, Calif., and Bobbie Fincher of Fairfax; one brother, Hayward Ingram of Fairfax; and several nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.  He was preceded in death by his brother, Gerald Ingram, and his sister, Gervis Meadows.
   Services were at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley at 4 p.m. on Thursday, April 14, with burial in Resthaven Cemetery.  The Rev. Steve York officiated.

Robert William Edwards

   (WOODLAND) Services for Robert William Edwards, 85, of Woodland were Sunday, April 17, 2005, at 2 p.m. at Providence Baptist Church, with the Revs. David Daniel and Roger Woodard officiating.  Burial followed in Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.
   Mr. Edwards died Friday, April 15, at Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center, Anniston.
   Mr. Edwards is survived by one daughter, Robbye Blanks of McDonough, Ga.; one son, Barry Edwards of Woodland; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Pearlie Johnston of Bowdon, Ga.; and two brothers, Ewell Edwards of Bessemer and Charles Edwards of Oxford.

Dwight Wilkinson

   (ROANOKE) Services for Dwight Wilkinson, 92, of Roanoke were Tuesday, April 19, 2005, at 2 p.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel, with the Revs. Tom Russell and Stoney Halsey officiating.  Burial was in Randolph Memory Gardens.
   Mr. Wilkinson died Saturday, April 16, at Traylor Nursing Home, Roanoke.
   A Randolph County native, Mr. Wilkinson was born Nov. 17, 1912, son of Benjamin and Nevada McGill Wilkinson.  He was a heavy equipment operator for the City of Roanoke and a member of Rock Mills United Methodist Church.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Wilkinson.
   Surviving are two daughters, Doris Wilkinson of Fort Valley, Ga., and Betty McBride of Fairfield Bay, Ark.; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Annie Birchfield of Birmingham; and a brother, W.O. Wilkinson of Heflin.

   (BIRMINGHAM) Mary R. Knudsen, 81, of Birmingham, died Saturday, April 16, 2005, at Randolph Medical Center, Roanoke, after a brief illness.
   Mrs. Knudsen was the former secretary of Crestway Baptist Church.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Earl K. Knudsen.
   Survivors include a son, William R. Knudsen of Wedowee; a sister, Helen Robinson of Birmingham; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

William N. `Bill' Entrekin

   (BOWDON, Ga.) William N. Bill Entrekin, 71, of Bowdon, Ga., died Saturday, April 23, 2005, following a brief illness.
   Born in Carroll County, Ga., on Jan. 21, 1934, Mr. Entrekin was the son of the late Eston and Lonie Kilgore Entrekin.  He retired from the U.S. Army in February of 1975.  A Vietnam veteran, he received several commendations, including the Bronze Star and Vietnam Cross of Gallantry.  In 1976 the family moved from Augusta to Carrollton, where he owned and operated Bill's Handi Mart.  He became the pastor of Shiloh Baptist Church, Graham, in 1978 and also pastored Rocky Branch Baptist, Woodland, and Salem Baptist, Carrollton.  His home church was Indian Creek in Bowdon, and he was a member of Bethesda Baptist Church.
   Survivors include his children, Gita and Kenneth Spratlin of Woodland and Michael and Karen Entrekin of Carrollton; two grandsons; the mother of his children, Sara Entrekin of Woodland; a sister, Jeanette Wilkes of Douglasville; three brothers, Robert Entrekin and Tommy Entrekin of Carrollton and John Entrekin of LaGrange; nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Gisela Pritchett of Carrollton.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Jonathan David West.
   Services will he at the Almon Funeral Home Chapel in Carrollton on Wednesday, April 27, at 3 p.m.  The Revs. Ray Barns and Carlton Rivers and Mr. Jim Hasten will officiate.  Music will be provided by family and friends.  Interment with full military honors will follow at Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery, Graham.

Marion H. Bass

   (PENSACOLA, Fla.) Marion H. Bass, 82, of Pensacola, Fla., died Sunday, April 24, 2005, in Atlanta, Ga.
   Services were at 10:30 a.m. EDT Tuesday, April 26, at Crowell Brothers Peachtree Chapel Funeral Home in Norcross, Ga.  A graveside service was at 3:30 p.m. CDT Tuesday at Forestlawn Gardens in Anniston.  In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America or the Auburn University Fund.
   Born March 18, 1923, in Roanoke, Mrs. Bass was the daughter of Virginia and Klein Hooper.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Thomas Bass, and by a son, David Bass.  She is survived by her sons, Alan Bass of Atlanta and Michael Bass of Gulf Breeze, Fla, and by two grandchildren.
   Mrs. Bass graduated from Auburn University in 1945 where she met her husband, Tom, a member of the U.S. Army Air Corps and also an Auburn graduate.  She served as a homemaker, school teacher and social welfare worker.  After many years in Anniston and Talladega, Tom and Marion moved to Pensacola in 1981.  She was a faithful member of the Gadsden Street Methodist Church and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and Daughter of the Confederacy.  She contributed to many causes, primarily higher education.

Jewell Daniel Stewart

   (BOWDON, Ga.) Jewell Daniel Stewart, 56, of Bowdon, Ga., died Saturday, April 23, 2005 at Emory Hospital, Atlanta.
   Mrs. Stewart was born in Carroll County, Ga., May 18, 1948, daughter of the late Curtis and Velma Caldwell Daniel.  She was a member of Sardis Baptist Church and was retired from Barnes Moving and Storage.
   She was preceded in death by a brother, Raymon Daniel; and two sisters, Nell Daniel and Kathy Lipham.
   Survivors include her husband, Billy Stewart of Bowdon; three daughters, Kim Stewart of Bowdon, Kandi Smith of Woodland and Amanda Holloway of Carrollton, Ga.; seven grandchildren; a sister, Gerlene Stitcher of Wedowee; and a niece.
   Services were Monday, April 25, at 3 p.m. at Sardis Baptist Church, with the Revs. Darnell Teal, Jimmy Palmer, Steve Dempsey and W.M. Wiggins officiating and music was by the church choir.  Interment was in the church cemetery with the Rev. Roy Wysner in charge.

   (ELBERTON, Ga.) Josephine Pitts, 86, of Elberton, Ga., died Friday, April 22, 2005, at Spring Valley Health Care.

Mattie Bell Hester Anderson

   (LAGRANGE, Ga.) Mattie Bell Anderson, 82, of LaGrange, Ga., died Monday, April 18, 2005, at West Georgia Medical Center, LaGrange. 
   Mrs. Anderson was born Jan. 9, 1923, in Rock Mills, Ala., daughter of John and Josie Hester.  She was a senior companion with West Georgia Medical Center for many years.  She was preceded in death by her husband, James Jim Franklin Anderson.
   Survivors include a daughter, Hazel M. Butaud of Ormond Beach, Fla.; two grandchildren; three sisters, Virginia Clark and Mandy Kirkland of LaGrange and Alma Lee Crews of Franklin, Ga.; a bother [sic],  Roy Hester of Franklin; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

James Gordon 'Pee Wee' Hodges

   (ROANOKE) James Gordon "Pee Wee" Hodges, 85, of Roanoke were Monday, April 25, 2005 at 11 a.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Alan Hurst and Dr. Charles McCook officiating.  Burial followed in Cedarwood Cemetery.
   Mr. Hodges died Friday, April 22, at Wedowee Hospital.
   Survivors include special friends Alan and Brenda Hurst; and several nieces and nephews.
   Mr. Hodges was born Oct. 17, 1919, son of Howell P. and Magie Woodall Hodges.  He was a member of North Main Congregational Christian Church, a retired shipping clerk for Palm Beach, and an avid train enthusiast.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Brooksie Neal Hodges.

L.W. `Dub' Waldrep Jr.

   (VALLEY) L.W. "Dub" Waldrep Jr., 82, of Valley died Tuesday, April 26, 2005, at Lanier Memorial Nursing Home, Valley.
   Mr. Waldrep was born in Randolph County Nov. 28, 1922, son of the late Camilla Garner Waldrep and Luther Wilson Waldrep.  He was the owner and operator of Daniel's Hamburgers in Valley, committed to his customers and family for 55 years.  He was a member of Fairfax United Methodist Church.
   Surviving are one sister, Virginia Peterson of Annapolis, Md. and a host of nieces and nephews.
   Services will be at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 28, with burial in Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke.  The Rev. Dick Waldrep and the Rev. Ben Hewitt will officiate.  Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6 until 8 p.m.

Lola Mae Yates

   (WEDOWEE) Lola Mae Yates, 77, of 10036 County Road 15, Wedowee, died Friday, April 22, 2005, at Wedowee Hospital.
   Services will be Saturday, April 30, at 11 a.m. at Lake Wedowee Church of Christ, with Bishop A. Amon officiating.  Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Wedowee.
   Survivors include a daughter, Tonya Taylor of Lakewood, Calif.; two sisters, Flora Lane of Wedowee and Iola Gist of Dayton, Ohio; two brothers, Mance Knight Jr. of Gardendale, Calif., and Rayfield Knight of Dayton; a special cousin, Bishop A. Amon of Wedowee; and one grandchild.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Yates; and a brother, Fred Knight.
   Public viewing will be at Clark Memorial Funeral Service from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Friday.  The body will be placed in the church one hour before services.
