Burial followed in the church cemetery. Mr. Meadows died Thursday, July 27, in Randolph County. He was born in Carroll County, Ga., on Dec. 17, 1955, son of Winfred C. and Elizabeth Johnson Meadows. He was self employed in real estate and logging. He was a deacon at Herren's Grove Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Debbie Murphy Meadows of Woodland; a daughter, Amanda M. Mr. Cobb died Monday, July 31, at East Alabama Regional Medical Center in Opelika. He was born in Cleburne County on Jan. 25, 1915, son of Oscar and Lucy Williamson Cobb. He was self-employed, an Army veteran and P.O.W. in Germany during World War II. He received a Purple Heart medal and the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with four Bronze Stars. He was a member of VFW, DAV, and Skirum Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Jessie Rae Wallace Cobb of Roanoke; a son, Robert Douglas Cobb of Roanoke; a sister, Louise Goggins of Cocoa Beach, Fla.; and a host of nephews and nieces. Blair, 71, of Pauline, S.C., died Wednesday, July 12, 2000 at Spartanburg Regional Heart Center. A native of Roanoke, Ala., Mrs. Blair earned her B.A. degree in teaching from Jacksonville State University. She taught school in Spartanburg District 7, including E.P. Todd Elementary School, and retired after more than 30 years of service. Mrs. Blair was a member of Friendship Baptist Church, Pauline, and the Ruth Sunday School Class. Mrs. Blair was preceded in death by her parents, Emmett and Frances Hunter Muldrew. She is survived by her husband, Earl W. Blair Sr. of Pauline; three sons, James H. Blair of Pauline, Steven A. Arrangements were by Miller Funeral Home, Oxford. __________ Elizabeth Belcher Cheek (TOCCOA, Ga.) Elizabeth Belcher Cheek, 63, of Toccoa, Ga., died at Stephens County Hospital, Friday, Aug. 4, 2000. Mrs. Cheek was the daughter of the late William Thomas and Mary Virginia Deloney Belcher. She was born July 21, 1937, in Roanoke, but had resided in Toccoa for some 39 years. She was the youngest of two children and was educated at Huntingdon College for two years prior to entering Emory University, where she received a degree in foreign languages. She was active in First United Methodist Church of Toccoa and was a member of the Open Door Sunday School Class. She was an active member of the Toccoa Literary Club and the Toccoa Cotillion Club. She was a former member of the Toccoa Junior Woman's Club, the Toccoa Woman's Club and for many years, she was a leader of various youth groups, including the Blue Birds, the Camp Fire Girls and the Boy Scouts. Mrs. Cheek loved to travel, play golf and spend time with her beloved family. She is survived by her husband, Ben F. Cheek III; one daughter, Virginia Elizabeth Cheek Herring of Toccoa; two sons, Benjamin F. Cheek IV of Toccoa and David William Cheek of Buford, Ga.; five grandchildren; a brother-in-law, sister-in-law, two nieces, one nephew, three grand-nieces and her mother-in-law. Mr. Winston was preceded in death by both parents, Henry Frank Winston and Christine Gray Winston, and a sister, Mrs. Margaret Collins. He was a high school graduate of Randolph County Training School in Roanoke. As a young adult, he worked at Handley Mills and later at Rosser's Nursing Home. He was a lifelong member of Friendship Baptist Church. The Rev. Lynn Nesbitt officiated. Mrs. Hawkins, who died Sunday, Aug. 13, at East Alabama Medical Center was born Aug. 26, 1919, in Wadley. Although a native of Randolph County, she had lived most of her life in Auburn. She was a member of Auburn United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Clift Hawkins Jr., and a grandson, Charles Richard Lambert, Jr. Mrs. Hawkins is survived by two daughters, Judy H. Reeves of Troy and Peggy Brackett of Montgomery; three sons, Henry C. Hawkins III and James A. Hawkins of Waverly and D. Grady Hawkins of Valley; a sister, Ruth F. Mrs. Cooley was born Nov. 26, 1913, in Randolph County, daughter of the late Robert Garfield "Dutch" and Lillian Bertha "Lowe" Saxon. She was retired as a seamstress with Bremen-Bowdon and Investment Company. She was a member of Goldridge Baptist Church. Mrs. Cooley was preceded in death by her husband, Carless Imal Cooley, who died April 1, 1999, and a brother, Horace Saxon. She is survived by a son, Sammy L. Arrangements were by Ridout's Southside Chapel, Birmingham. __________ Thomas Fredrick Young (ALEXANDER CITY) Thomas Fredrick Young Sr., 82, of Alexander City died Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2000, in Russell Medical Center, Alexander City. Mr. Young was born Feb. 18, 1918, in Tallapoosa County, son of the late Claude Roy Young and the late Mary Love Stevens Young. He was elected as district attorney for the Fifth Judicial Circuit, which includes Randolph County, in 1954 and held office for 16 years. He was re-elected to another six-year term in 1975. He is reputed to have tried more major criminal cases than any district attorney in the history of the state. He has served as president of the Alabama District Attorney Association and as state director of the National District Attorney Association. Surviving are his wife, Barbara Young of Alexander City; two sons, Thomas F. Young Jr. and William Hare Young Sr. of Alexander City; a daughter, Mary Love Dearman of Atlanta; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Glenn Young, and two brothers, Claude Young and Joe Young. Services were at First Baptist Church of Alexander City on Friday, Aug. 25, at 10 a.m., with Dr. Gerald Hallmark officiating. Interment was in Hillview Memorial Park, Alexander City.
