OBITUARIES:

Eugenia `Jeannie' Faye Cummings Carson

   (COWETA COUNTY, Ga.) Eugenia "Jeannie" Faye Cummings Carson, 51, of Coweta 
County died Dec. 20, 2005, at LaFayette Health and Rehabilitation.
   She was born July 9, 1954, in Troup County, Ga., to Robert L. and Faye 
McClellan Cummings. She was a member of Sardis Baptist Church, where she was 
active with the youth department.
   She was predeceased by her father. Survivors include her husband, Barron 
"Barry" Nathaniel Carson; two sons, Robert Neal Carson and Brian Nathaniel 
Carson; two grandchildren; an honorary daughter, Tessa Hunt; her mother, Faye 
Buck and stepfather, Jimmy E. Buck; three sisters, Pam Herndon, Jaye Copeland 
and Nanci Hamlin; a brother, Boyd Cummings; her mother-in-law, Louise Carson; 
several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
   Services were Monday, Jan. 2, at 2 p.m. at Higgins Hillcrest Chapel, with the 
Rev. Searcy Jackson officiating. Interment was at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Ora Louise Carson

   (WADLEY) Services for Ora Louise Carson, 79, of Wadley were Sunday, Jan. 1, 
2006, at 2 p.m. at Benefield Funeral Home Chapel in Ashland, with the Rev. Zenus 
Windsor officiating. Burial was in Forrester's Chapel Methodist Church Cemetery 
in Randolph County.
   Mrs. Carson died Friday, Dec. 30, at Lineville Health and Rehabilitation 
Center. She was a native and lifelong resident of Randolph County, a homemaker 
and a member of Rocky Creek Baptist Church.
   She is survived by four daughters, Neda Bohannon of Douglasville, Ga., Marsha 
Poe and Janice Cotney of Wadley and Sharon Morgan of Ashland; two sons, Darrell 
Carson of Wadley and Barry Carson of Palmetto, Ga.; two sisters, Bernice 
Wellborn of New Port Richey, Fla., and Katherine Hoolapa of Columbus, Ga.; nine 
grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her 
husband, Neal Carson; one daughter-in-law, Jeannie Carson; and one son-in-law, 
Norman Goss.
   Pallbearers were grandsons and nephews, Jonathan Goss, Neal Carson, Brian 
Carson, Walt Albright, Ryan Anderson and Steve Carson.

Deroy Butler

   (PINE HILL) Services for Deroy Butler, 84, of Pine Hill were Saturday, Dec. 
31, 2005, at 2 p.m. at Pine Hill Christian Church, with Bro. Ralph Posey and 
Bro. Ed Pannell officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
   Mr. Butler died Thursday, Dec. 29, at Wedowee Hospital.
   Mr. Butler is survived by one daughter, Jackie Akins of Pine Hill; and one 
grandson.
   Pallbearers were Steve Butler, Scott Butler, Stanley Merill, Adam Downs, 
Michael Arrington and David Hewitt. Honorary pallbearers were Mark Butler, Mike 
Butler and Bob Butler.
   Mr. Butler was born Jan. 19, 1921, son of Cliff and Alvie Jones Butler. He 
was a member of Pine Hill Christian Church.  He served in the U.S. Amy during 
World War II and was owner and operator of Deroy Butler's General Merchandise 
Store and a cattle farmer.  He was a Masonic lodge member, a member of the 
Cattlemen's Association and former trustee of Woodland High School.  Mr. Butler 
was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jim Iverson Butler; one sister, Gladys 
Butler; and four brothers, Troy, Cal, Narvis and R. J. Butler.

Kelly Myers

   (PIKEVILLE, Tenn.) Kelly Myers, 29, of Pikeville, Tenn., died Saturday, Dec. 
31, 2005, due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She was an 
employee of Bledsoe County School System and worked with special education 
students.
   She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Gladys and Byrd 
Bassett, and paternal grandparents, General B. and Lena Cagle Myers.
   She is survived by her parents, Steve Sr. and Margaret Myers of Pikeville; 
one brother, Steve Myers Jr. of Chattanooga; and several aunts, uncles and 
cousins.
   Services were Tuesday, Jan. 3, at 1 p.m. CST in the chapel of Putnam-Reed 
Funeral Home, with Bro. Mitchell Wilson officiating. Burial was in Cagle 
Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to Special Education at Pikeville 
Elementary School for library books.

Ailevia Pinkard

   (CHICAGO) Ailevia Pinkard, 94, of Chicago, Ill., a native of Randolph County, 
died Thursday, Dec. 29, 2005, at her home.
   Services will be Saturday, Jan. 7, at 3 p.m. at Friendship Baptist Church, 
Wadley, with the Revs. Calvin Trammell and Willie A. Treadwell officiating. 
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
   Public viewing will be at Clark Memorial Funeral Service, Roanoke, from 10 
a.m. until 6 p.m. on Friday. The body will be placed in the church one hour 
before services.
   Surviving are one sister, Lula Mae Henry of Chicago; and a host of nieces, 
nephews, and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her 
father, Willie A. Woodgett; her mother, Cora Bell Gay; two brothers, Clinton 
Woodgett and John Woodgett; and two sisters, Eura Low and Lemma Trammell.

Thomas P. Allen

   (WOODLAND) Services for the Rev. Thomas P. Allen, 74, of Woodland were 
Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2006, at 2 p.m. at Woodland Church of God, with the Revs. 
Wendell Patterson, Phillip Patterson, Carolyn Hanner, Billy Kennedy and Paul 
Conway officiating. Burial followed at Gray Hill Church of God Cemetery.
   Rev. Allen died Sunday, Jan. 8, at Randolph Medical Center, Roanoke.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Lee Patterson Allen of Woodland; two daughters, 
Patricia Barrett of Bowdon, Ga., and Sharon Baldwin of Roanoke; one son, Doyle 
Allen of Roanoke; one sister, Ruth Patterson of Roopville, Ga.; one half-sister, 
Elizabeth Langley of Roopville; one brother, Aaron Allen of Newell; seven 
grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
   Pallbearers were Bobby Parmer, Stanley Allen, Jamie Benefield, Joe Baldwin, 
Kenny Fields and David Frankin.
   Rev. Allen was born Aug. 30, 1931, son of Parvin and Annie Ruth Hutchinson 
Allen. He was a member of Gray Hill Church of God and was retired after serving 
as an ordained Church of God minister for over 50 years. He served in the U.S. 
Army and Navy during the Korean War.
   Mr. Allen was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Helen 
Thompson, Laverne Campbell and Nellie Watts; and one half-brother, G.W. 
Robinson.

John David Rowland Jr.

   (WEDOWEE) John David Rowland Jr., 53, of 121 Robbin Road, Wedowee, died 
Friday, Jan. 6, 2006, at his home.
   Services will be Thursday, Jan. 12, at 1 p.m. at New Harmony Baptist Church, 
LaFayette, with the Revs. Jerome Trammell, William H. Trammell and Gilbert 
Staples officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
   Survivors include four sons, David Rowland of Columbus, Ga., Corey Trammell 
of Biloxi, Miss., Rashaundi Rowland of Atlanta and Jonathan Rowland of Omaha, 
Neb.; two brothers, Clinton Rowland of West Point, Ga., and Gordon Rowland of 
LaGrange, Ga.; four sisters, Agnes Rowland of Pittsburgh, Pa., Ruby Watson of 
Southfield, Mich., Dorothy Matsey of Hudson, Fla., and Para Cadellof of Detroit, 
Mich.; three granddaughters and one grandson. He was preceded in death by a 
daughter, Tonya Rowland.
   Public viewing will be at Clark Memorial Funeral Service from 10 a.m. until 6 
p.m. on Wednesday. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the 
funeral.

Robert Murray Green

   (STANDING ROCK) Services for Robert Murray Green, 50, of Standing Rock were 
Monday, Jan. 9, 2006, at 2 p.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. 
Frank Foster and Mr. Madison G. Blackwell officiating. Burial followed at 
Standing Rock Methodist Church Cemetery.
   Mr. Green died Sunday, Jan. 8, at his home.
   Survivors include his wife, Peggy Hudson Green of Standing Rock; one 
daughter, Michelle Green of Standing Rock; two grandchildren; three sisters, 
Janet Adcock of Sharpsburg, Ga., Lynn Blackwell of West Point, Ga., and Susan 
Brumbeloe of Douglasville, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews.
   Pallbearers were Kerrie Miles, Matt Adcock, Ryan Adcock, Brett Butler, Perry 
Hood, Thomas Hudson, Jimmy Hudson and Mitchell Hudson.
   Mr. Green was born Feb. 26, 1955, son of the late Bobby and Rudine Potts 
Green.  He was of the Congregational Christian faith and worked construction for 
Mid-South Mechanical of LaGrange, Ga.

Russell E. Cutting

   (HENDERSONVILLE, N.C.) Russell E. Cutting, 68, of North Carolina, formerly of 
Tolland, Conn., husband of Roanoke native Betty Nix Cutting, died Friday, Jan. 
6, 2006, at Manchester Memorial Hospital.
   Born in Kezar Falls, Maine, Feb. 6, 1937, son of the late Russell and Frances 
Sawyer Cutting, he lived in Tolland 32 years and most currently Hendersonville, 
N.C. He worked at Pratt & Whitney and also United Technologies in the Research & 
Development Division for 31 years prior to his retirement in 1992. He was a 
member of the Lions Club, Moose Lodge and was a U.S. Air Force veteran. He 
enjoyed boating and fishing. Besides his wife Betty, he leaves his son, Gary 
Cutting of Vernon, Conn.; his daughter, Beth Courtney of Manchester, Conn.; his 
step-daughter, Vicki Siedlack of Tampa, Fla.; a sister, Barbara Shover of 
Cornish, Maine; and seven grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, 
Shirley Stetson Cutting.
   Services were Tuesday, Jan. 10, at 11 a.m. at Ladd-Turkington & Carmon

Willie Mae Hanvey

   (EDWARDSVILLE) Services for Willie Mae Hanvey, 78, of Edwardsville, were at 
11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005, at Pinetucky Baptist Church, with Leron 
Murphy, Arlin Ashley and Billy Williams officiating. Burial was in Pinetucky 
Cemetery.
   Mrs. Hanvey died Friday, Dec. 23, at Northeast Alabama Regional Medical 
Center, Anniston.
   Survivors include four daughters, Brenda "Sissy" Fabian of Heflin, Patricia 
Dingman of Valrico, Fla., Kay McKenzie of Jacksonville and Penora "Penny" 
Elswick of Woodland; two sons, Gary L. Hanvey of Edwardsville and Howard K. 
Hanvey of Senioa, Ga.; two sisters, Katie Cavender of Heflin and Sarah Jennings 
of Camp Hill; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren, and a special friend, 
Sydney Hale of Oxford.
   Her husband, H. L. Hanvey; her parents, Cora and Jason Dean; one sister, 
Dorothy Nell Daniels; and a son-in-law, William Moore; preceded her in death.
   Pallbearers were Steven Hanvey, Wesley Hanvey, Jamie Holt, Greg Moore, Jason 
Moore, Wendall Moore and Brady Turner. Honorary pallbearers were Ezra Joslin, 
Justin Joslin, Makenzie Hanvey, Stephanie Holt and Shirley Fite.
   Mrs. Hanvey was a native and lifelong resident of Cleburne County. She was a 
member of Pinetucky Baptist Church. For several years she owned Hanvey's Amoco 
service station and grocery store in Heflin.

Opal Joyce Yarbrough

   (PELL CITY) Opal Joyce Yarbrough, 73, of Pell City died Sunday, Jan. 1, 2006.
   Services were at Fellowship Baptist Church, Roanoke, on Wednesday, Jan. 4, at 
2 p.m. Interment was in the Fellowship Baptist Church Cemetery.
   Survivors include three daughters, Shelia Garrett of Pell City, Brenda Gail 
Mapp of Roanoke and Debbie Castleberry of Rainbow City; three brothers, Buck, 
Ronnie and Larry Joe Norred; two sisters, Bovine Fisher and Earlene Arnett; 10 
grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Yarbrough was preceded in death 
by her husband, Robert Yarbrough; brothers Billy Ray Norred, Leonard Norred, 
Jimmy Norred, and Virgil Norred; and her parents, Flossie and Dalph Norred.

   (WEDOWEE) Services for Vera Lindley Mitchell, 84, of Wedowee were Monday,

   Mrs. Mitchell died Saturday, Jan. 7, at Wedowee Hospital.

law, Gerald Pyle of Jacksonville; a sister-in-law, Evis Lindley of Wedowee; a 
special niece and caregiver, Kathryn Gray; and several other nieces and nephews.
   Pallbearers were James Gray, Basil Mitchell, Ben Milam, Kenneth Spradlin, 
Eddie Lindley and Mike Mitchell.
   Mrs. Mitchell was born Nov. 27, 1921, daughter of William Jackson and Mary 
Jane Huddleston Lindley. She was a member of Mt. Grove Baptist Church and a 
housewife. Mrs. Mitchell was preceded in death by her husband, Otis Mitchell; 
one brother, Roy Lindley; three sisters, Zadie Hill, Morine Bolt and Adell Pyle; 
and her parents.

   (ROANOKE) Services for Brunette Elizabeth Ramsey Brewer, 83, of Roanoke were

   Mrs. Brewer died Thursday, Jan. 5, at Traylor Nursing Home, Roanoke.
   Survivors include six daughters, Jeanette Brewer Weaver of Roanoke, Shelia 
Brewer Reynolds of New Concord, Ky., Shirley Brewer Cummings of Opelika, Deborah 
Brewer Robinson and Linda Brewer Cofield of Roanoke, and Patricia Brewer Wyble 
of LaGrange; two sons, John W. Brewer Jr. of Jacksonville and William J. 
Harrison of Macon, Ga.; two sisters, Joyce Ramsey O'Neal of Gold Canyon, Ariz., 
and JoAnne Ramsey Knowles of Colton, Calif.; two brothers, Forest "Flat" Ramsey 
of Prattville and Ray Butch Ramsey of Friendswood, Texas; 23 grandchildren; 37 
great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Cummings, Ronnie Clark, Robbie Clark and Jerry Van Nelson. Honorary pallbearers

Harrison.
   Mrs. Brewer was born June 29, 1922, daughter of Claude and Inez Gordon 
Ramsey. She attended Faith Baptist Church and Handley Avenue Church of God. Mrs. 
Brewer was preceded in death by her husband, John William Brewer Sr.; her 
parents; two brothers, Harvey Ramsey and Charles Ramsey; and one sister, Pauline 
Ramsey Hattaway.

John Henry Maffett

   (NEWELL) John Henry Maffett, 79, of Newell died Thursday, Dec. 22, 2005, at 
West Georgia Medical Center, LaGrange.
   Services were at Weathers Heights Church of Christ, Wedowee, on Saturday, 
Jan. 7, at 1 p.m., with Pastor Henry Nelson officiating. Interment was in Mt. 
Gilead Cemetery, Newell.
   Mr. Maffett was a native of Randolph County and was a member of Weathers 
Heights Church of Christ. He was a World War II Navy veteran and later retired 
from the City of Philadelphia Water Company.  He was preceded in death by his 
wife, Mary E. Maffett.
   Surviving are one son, John H. Maffett of Norriston, Pa.; four grandsons; one 
granddaughter; 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Rev. Robert Maffett of 
Norristown and Ned Maffett of Newell; devoted friends, Presley Stephens and Bro. 
Henry Nelson, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Andrew 'Dennis' Cannon

   (CUSSETA) Andrew "Dennis" Cannon, 77, of Cusseta died Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2006, 
at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Montgomery.
   Graveside services were Friday, Jan. 6, at 11 a.m. at Resthaven Memorial 
Gardens with the Rev. Rusty Letson officiating.
   Mr. Cannon is survived by his wife, Jackie Cannon; two sons, Dennis Joe 
Cannon of Phenix City and Gregory Dell Cannon of Beulah; two grandsons; four 
great-grandchildren; two brothers; and one sister.
   Born Dec. 13, 1928 in Woodland, Mr. Cannon was the son of the late Evie T. 
Bryand Cannon and Joseph Edward Cannon. He had been a department head in the 
weave room at WestPoint Pepperell's Lanier Mill and had been employed by the 
company for 49 years and nine months. Mr. Cannon enjoyed fishing and cutting his 
grass. He was a very loving husband, father and grandfather, and he enjoyed 
spending time with his grandchildren. Mr. Cannon was a veteran, having served in 
the U.S. Army from 1951 until 1952. He was a charter member of the Valley Bass 
Club.

William Frank Thomas

   (ROANOKE) Services for William Frank Thomas, 44, of Roanoke were Thursday, 
Jan. 5, 2006, at 4 p.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Mike Whaley 
officiating. Burial followed at Randolph Memory Gardens.
   Mr. Thomas died Tuesday, Jan. 3, at West Georgia Medical Center, LaGrange.
   Survivors include his wife, Gena Dagley Thomas of Roanoke; two daughters, 
Candice and Cassie Thomas of Roanoke; one sister, Liz Roberts of Mississippi; 
his stepfather, Johnny Bridges of Mississippi; and several nieces and nephews.
   Pallbearers were Robert Boggs, Jeremiah Hembree, Jerry Hembree, Eddie Pike, 
Mike Luke and James Kimble Jr.
   Mr. Thomas was born May 31, 1961, son of Mary Caldwell. He was an electrician 
at Atlanta Nisseki CLAF Inc. of Roanoke.

Jewell Virginia Howle

   (JACKSONVILLE) Funeral services for Jewell Virginia Howle, 93, of 
Jacksonville were at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2006, at Dryden Funeral Home 
Chapel with Dr. Roland Brown officiating. Burial followed in Morrison Chapel 
Cemetery.
   Mrs. Howle was a native of Randolph County and resident of Cleburne County 
for most of her life. She had lived in Jacksonville for the past three years and 
was retired from Higgins Manufacturing Company. Mrs. Howle was recognized for 
her leadership by the Cleburne County Extension Council and was a member of 
Hepsabah Baptist Church.
   Survivors include her daughter, Olene H. Thompson of Jacksonville; a son, 
William Byron Howle, of Youngstown, Fla.; a sister, Myrtice Loveless of Heflin; 
two brothers, Elbert E. White of Dayton; Ohio, and Newman J. White of Anniston; 
three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
   Pallbearers were Donald H. Thompson, Burtt Howle, Ronald Howle, Travis Howle, 
Paul White, and Kermit White.
   In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Morrison Chapel Cemetery 
Fund.

   (ROANOKE) Services for Andrew Gay Langley, 88, of Roanoke were Thursday, Jan.

   Mr. Langley died Tuesday, Jan. 3, at Wedowee Hospital.

Carrollton, Ga.; one step-granddaughter; and one sister, Opal Perry of Wadley.
  Pallbearers were Phillip Johnson, Gilbert Huey Jr., Dan Holder, Robbie 
Robertson, Rick Robertson, Jeff Langley, Rodney Perry, Albert Eiland, Joel Perry 
and Tim Taylor.
   Mr. Langley was born Sept. 11, 1917, son of Thomas J. and Nanie Watson 
Langley. He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church and retired from General 
Electric Uniroyal.

Alline Cooper

   (WEDOWEE) Alline Cooper, 98, of Wedowee died Thursday, Dec. 29, 2005, at 
Roanoke Health Care Center.
  Mrs. Cooper was born in Chambers County on June 5, 1907. She was a member of 
St. Paul United Methodist Church, Opelika.
   Survivors include two daughter, Vire Turner of Wedowee and Geraldine Doughty 
of Philadelphia, Pa.; 37 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, one great-nephew 
and two great-nieces.
   Services were at Friendship Baptist Church #2, LaFayette, on Saturday, Jan. 
7, at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Curtis Spidell officiating. Burial was in the church 
cemetery.

  (LINEVILLE) Services for Ethel W. Sterling, 97, of Lineville were Saturday, 
Jan. 7, 2006, at 11 a.m. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Delta, with the Revs. 
Craig McClure and Robert Welch officiating.   Burial followed in the adjoining 
cemetery.
   Ms. Sterling died Tuesday, Jan. 3, at Lineville Nursing Facility.

   (DAYTON, Ohio) Funeral services for James H. Lewis, 55, of Dayton, Ohio,

   Mr. Lewis died Dec. 29, 2005, at his residence.

Vela Mae Heflin Roberson

   (LANETT) Vela Mae Heflin Roberson, 96, of Lanett died Monday, Jan. 9, 2006, 
at Beverly Healthcare.
   Surviving are one son, Hershel Roberson; two stepsons, Haldor Roberson and 
Hardy Roberson; one daughter, Laura Barfield Johnson; two stepdaughters, Ann 
Schleusner and Betty Mason; two grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two 
great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; three great-great-
grandchildren; four step-great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and 
nephews.
   Services will be at Resthaven Chapel at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 11, with 
the Rev. Wallace Bell and the Rev. Peter Teel officiating. Burial will be in 
Resthaven Cemetery.
   Mrs. Roberson was a born in Heard County, Ga., on Oct. 30, 1909. She was a 
retired minister who pastored many churches in the area. She was a special 
mother and grandmother to many and helped rear many, including the Schmidt 
family. She was a member of Valley First Church of the Nazarene.

Harl Eugene White

   (ROANOKE) Services for Harl Eugene White, 68, of Roanoke will be Wednesday, 
Jan. 18, 2006, a 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Roanoke, with Dr. William 
Dean officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memory Gardens.
   Mr. White died Sunday, Jan. 15, at Columbus Medical Center, Columbus, Ga.
   Survivors include his wife, Voncile Walker White of Roanoke; one daughter, 
Tamela Wilkinson of Roanoke; one son, Roger White of Roanoke; two grandchildren; 
and two sisters, Bernie Cagle of Lineville and Vivian Sloan of Warrior.
   Pallbearers will be Wayne Stephens, Bill Brown; Larry Wortham, Gerson Bonner, 
David Daniel, Johnny Sanders, Jimmy McKinney and Donnie Anthony. Honorary 
pallbearers will be the Men's Bible Class.
   Mr. White was born Sept. 19, 1937, son of Ethridge and Cordie Mae Upchurch 
White.  He was a member of First Baptist Church of Roanoke.  He retired after 23 
years with Liberty National Insurance Co. and had been employed with Quattlebaum 
Funeral Home since retirement.

Thaniel A. Phillips

   (HOGANSVILLE, Ga.) Thaniel A. Phillips, 80, of Hogansville, Ga., died Friday, 
Jan. 13, 2006, at Hospice LaGrange in LaGrange, Ga.
   Born March 17, 1925, in Randolph County, Ala., Mr. Phillips was the son of 
the late Lewis and Allie Gay Phillips. A resident of Hogansville most of his 
life, he retired from Uniroyal Inc. after 42 years of service and was a member 
of Highland Baptist Church in Hogansville.
   Survivors include his wife, Mildred Boswell Phillips; one son, John Phillips 
of Hogansville; two sisters, Maecenies Robinson of Hogansville and Lois Langford 
of Griffin, Ga.; one brother, Lewis Phillips Jr. of Brooks; two granddaughters 
and three great-grandchildren.
   Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17, in the chapel of the Claude 
A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home with the Revs. Max McCord and Ron Daniel 
officiating. Interment was in Myrtle Hill Cemetery.

Henry Lee Evans

   (WADLEY) Services for Mrs. Henry Lee Evans, 87, of Wadley will be Thursday, 
Jan. 19. 2006, at 2 p.m. at Malone Baptist Church, with the Rev. Zenus Windsor 
and the Rev. Ben Milam officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill 
Community Cemetery.
   Mrs. Evans died Monday, Jan. 16, at Traylor Retirement Center, Roanoke.
   She was a native of Tallapoosa County, but had been a resident of Wadley for 
65 years. She was the church pianist at Malone Baptist Church until a fall three 
months ago. She and her late husband, Oakley Evans, were gospel song writers and 
had many of their songs published.  She was both a singing school teacher and 
music teacher. Her greatest love was for her family, especially her 
grandchildren.
   Mrs. Evans was preceded in death by her husband, Oakley Evans, and a 
daughter, Sarah Diane Evans. She is survived by three daughters, Wilka Neighbors 
of Alexander City, Wylodene Strait of Montgomery and Josie Harris of Wadley; one 
son, Lamar Evans of Wadley; three sisters, Lillis Mae Turner, Ethel Shockley and 
Maxine Warren, all of Alexander City; nine grandchildren; 16 great-
grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
   Serving as pallbearers will be John Harris, Greg Mask, Clay Neighbors, Jeff 
Evans, Oakley Evans and Dave Mallory. Honorary pallbearers will be Lisa Harris 
Mask, Tamara Evans Longsdorf, Peggy-Jo Evans and Lance and Kelli Neighbors 
Valdez.
   Mrs. Evans will lie in state at the church for an hour prior to service time. 
The family will accept flowers, or donations may be made to Pleasant Hill 
Community Cemetery Fund.

Walter B. Bennett

   (VALLEY) Walter B. Bennett, 73, or Valley died Saturday, Jan. 14, 2006, at 
his residence.
   Mr. Bennett was a native of Randolph County, born Aug. 26, 1932, son of the 
late Mary Lou Smith Bennett and the late Charles Homer Bennett.   He was a U.S. 
Air Force veteran and a retired employee of Uniroyal. He was a member of Bethany 
Lime Christian Church.
   Surviving are his wife, Jewel Aaron Bennett; and two sisters, Odell Bennett 
and Rose Stanford of Roanoke.
   Services were Monday, Jan. 16, at 4 p.m. (EST) at Johnson Brown-Service 
Funeral Home Chapel in Valley, with burial in Fairfax Cemetery. The Rev. Stanley

   (ROANOKE) Kevin Lamar Rowe, 49, of Roanoke died Monday, Jan. 2, 2006, at 
Randolph Medical Center, Roanoke.

Methodist Church in Wadley (Dickert), with the Rev. Jeffery Rosser and Bishop

   Mr. Rowe is survived by a son, Shannon Fincher of Roanoke; and a brother,

   (WEDOWEE) Services for Charles L. Dawson, 76, of Wedowee were Saturday, Jan. 
21, 2006, at noon at Calvary Baptist Church, with Rev. Chris Mitchell

   Mr. Dawson died Wednesday, Jan. 18, in Wedowee.
   Mr. Dawson is survived by one daughter, Sheila Jones of Leesburg, Fla.; one 
son, Steve Dawson of Gardendale; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; one 
great-grandchild; and close friend and caregiver, Jean Tanner of Wedowee.
   Pallbearers were Earl Dawson, Ryan Mitchell, Jeff Mitchell, Kevin Browning, 
Daniel Dawson, Jerry Sisson, Fred Richie and Johnathon Dawson.
   Mr. Dawson was born Jan. 6, 1930, son of Charly and Thelma Abercombie Dawson. 
He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, had driven a truck for 44 years and 
had worked for Benefield Funeral Home for over ten years. Mr. Dawson was 
preceded in death by his wife, Elanore Dawson; one sister, Nell Kennedy; and one 
brother, Eddie Dawson.

Clyde McGill

   (HUEYTOWN) Clyde McGill, 78, of Hueytown died Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2006.
   Mr. McGill was a Wadley native, son of the late Jimmy and Mozell McGill, and 
a 1946 graduate of Wadley High School. He was a retired Liberty National Life 
Insurance agent with 27 years of service. He was a member of First United 
Methodist Church of Hueytown.
   Memorial services were Friday, Jan. 20, at 6 p.m. at First United Methodist 
Church, Hueytown.
   Surviving are his wife, Dean McGill; a son, Tommy McGill; and a 
granddaughter. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Denson and Hobson 
McGill.

   (AUSTELL, Ga.) Christine K. Graham, 80, a resident of Traylor Retirement 
Community in Roanoke and formerly of Austell, Ga., died Friday, Jan. 20, 2006.
   Christine was a homemaker and a member of Austell First Baptist Church and 
the Adelphia Sunday School Class.
   She is survived by her husband, Robert F. Graham; two sons, Terry Graham of 
Wedowee and Jim Graham of Marietta, Ga.; and one granddaughter.
   Services were Sunday, Jan. 22, at 4 p.m. at Davis-Struempf Chapel, Austell,

Lorene Rice Davis

   (JACKSONVILLE, Fla.) Lorene Rice Davis, 78, of Jacksonville, Fla., died 
Friday, Jan. 20, 2006.
   Mrs. Davis was born March 31, 1927, in Randolph County, Ala., daughter of the 
late Ezra and Julia Rice. She had lived in Jacksonville for the past seven 
years, but lived most of her life in LaGrange, Ga.  She was a member of the 
Second Baptist Church for many years. She retired from the Dunson Division of 
West Point Pepperell, where she worked for more than 40 years.
   Survivors include one son, Terrell B. Davis Jr. of Newnan, Ga.; two 
daughters, Linda Pace of Jacksonville and Brenda Driggers of Enigma, Ga.; five 
grandchildren; four sisters, Eloise Patton of Guntersville, Ruth Tomlin of 
Notasulga, Stella Phillips of Wedowee and Mildred Tarver of Cedartown, Ga.; and 
several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers, A.Z., 
Garvin and infant boy Rice; four sisters, Naomi, Elva and Eva Rice and Louise 
Ginzer; and one great-grandchild.
   Services will be Wednesday, Jan. 25, at 11 a.m. EST at Second Baptist Church, 
LaGrange, with the Rev. Bobby Robinson officiating. Burial will follow in

   (WADLEY) Services for Thomas Siggers, 72, of Wadley were Friday, Jan. 20, 
2006, at 11 a.m. at Mt. Gilead United Methodist Church in Wadley, with the Revs.

adjoining cemetery.
   Mr. Siggers died Wednesday, Jan. 18, at his residence.
   He was a native of Randolph County but had lived most of his life in Clay 
County. He was a truck driver for several years and a member of Community 
Baptist Church in LaFayette.
   He is survived by his wife, Betty Siggers of Wadley; four daughters, Cathy 
Coker, Rita Brand, Vicki Crawford and Patricia Anderson, all of Wadley; two 
sons, David Siggers and Randy Siggers of Wadley; four sisters, Cecile Turner of 
Langdale, Frances Clarke of Valley and Jeanette Brown and Linda Siggers of 
Cragford; three brothers, J.W. Siggers of Waverly, James Siggers of Roanoke and 
W.C. Siggers of Crawford; 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He was

   (LANETT) Mrs. Claudie Smith, 81, of Lanett died Saturday, Jan. 21, 2006, at

Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley with the Rev. Gordon Brown officiating. 
Burial will follow at Ebenezer Methodist Church Cemetery.
   Mrs. Smith is survived by one daughter, Bertha Bowen Fetner of Roanoke; two 
sons, Bobby Bowen of Valley and William David Smith of Lanett; two brothers, 
Hulett Hester of Roanoke and Huell Hester of Albuquerque, N.M.; six 
grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
   Born Nov. 3, 1924, in Harris County, Ga., Mrs. Smith was the daughter of the 
late Purilla Craven Hester and Allen Hester. She loved walking and working. Mrs. 
Smith loved all animals. She was preceded in death by her grandsons, David 
Fetner and Richard Bowen; her sister, Edna Mae Smith; and her brother, Hugh 
Hester. Mrs. Smith was a member of Liberty East Baptist Church.
   Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to West Georgia Hospice in 
her memory.
