EDWIN BARNES

Well known and highly esteemed resident of Houtzdale, died at his home there
on Monday.  Mr. Barnes was born in Monmouthshire, Eng., on Jan. 17, 1854, and
he was united in marriage with Ann Maria Rees and they came to America
thirty-three years ago.  In England he was a member of the Methodist Wesleyan
faith and was a local minister.  Upon coming to America he united with the
Methodist Protestant church at Houtzdale, where he served faithfully whenever
occasion was presented.  He is survived by his wife, one brother and one
sister, both of England; three sons, Charles of Exter, Eng., Bert of
Philipsburg and Sam of Canton, O.; five daughters, Mrs. Maude Pritchard of
Treorchey, South Wales, Mrs. James Reese of West Moshannon, Mrs. Benjamin
Hooper of Altoona, Mrs. Charles Badman of Houtzdale, Mrs. Owen Roberts of
Johnstown, and thirty-seven grandchildren and twenty-five
great-grandchildren.  Services were conducted at Houtzdale Thursday afternoon
and interment was made there.

MRS. ODES W. BRODBECK

Mrs. Odes W. Brodbeck, wife of Odes W. Brodbeck, of Douglassville, Berks
county, died at the Pottstown hospital on Monday, December 21, death being
due to a nervous breakdown.
Mrs. Brodbeck, nee Mary Norris, was the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Howard
Norris, formerly of Hill Valley, and she was born and reared in Hill
Valley.  She was a former school teacher and a girl who took part in all
civic problems.  As a young woman in Hill Valley she was a member of the
Church of the Brethren, and walked always faithfully in the service of the
King, ever happy in service for others.
She was united in marriage to Odes W. Brodbeck on December 27, 1917.  To this
union three children were born, one named Dorothy preceding her to the grave
several years ago.  Among her survivors are her husband, Odes Brodbeck, one
daughter, Ruth, and one son, Howard.  Her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs.
Howard Norris, two brothers, Ernest and John Norris, also survive.
Funeral services were conducted from the Houch funeral home in Pottstown. 
Burial was made in Coventry cemetery, Berks county.

FORMER ALTOONAN DIES AT COLUMBIA

Homer D. Burlingame, former well known resident of Altoona, died at 11
o'clock yesterday morning at his home, 213 Perry street, Columbia, Pa., of
infirmities of age.  He had been ill for two years and was confined to his
bed for the past six months.
During his stay in Altoona, Mr. Burlingame was active in political affairs
and served as Blair county chairman of the Bull Moose party in 1912.  His
son, Gayle Burlingame, now blind and residing at Columbia, was graduated from
the Altoona High school in 1908.
The deceased was a son of the late Delos B. and Elvira (Sizer) Burlingame and
was born near Sizerville, Cameron county.  He was a wholesale jobber in
Altoona for twenty years after which he went to work for the state in the
treasury department and served fifteen years at Harrisburg after which he was
retired.  Mr. Burlingame had resided in Columbia for the past three and a half
years.
He is survived by one son, Gayle, at home; two brothers, Elmer of Alhambra,
Calif., and Buell of Los Angeles, Calif., and two sisters, Rose B. Searing of
St. Petersburg, Fla., and Verna Burlingame of Harrisburg.  He was active in
Masonic circles and was a life member of the Emporium Blue lodge; a charter
and life member of Jaffa Shrine temple of Altoona, Williamsport consistory
and the Craftsman's club, Columbia.  He was a member of the Market Square
Presbyterian church, Harrisburg.

MRS. ANNA BUEBEL

Wife of Emil F. Buebel of 116 Fifth avenue, died suddenly at her home at 5.10
o'clock yesterday afternoon of a heart attack.  She was born in the city on
Jan. 8, 1874, a daughter of Matthew and Anna (Hauser) Wolfsberger.  Surviving
are her husband, one daughter and one son, Mrs. Anna Schauer of the city and
Edgar W. Buebel of Baltimore, Md.; three grandchildren and three sisters,
Mrs. Mary Hauser, Mrs. William Behm and Mrs. L. F. Wolf, all of the city.  A
son, Emil F. Buebel, died sixteen years ago.  Mrs. Buebel was a member of
Bethany Lutheran church and Delphi chapter, No. 65, Order of Eastern Star. 
The body may be viewed at the home where funeral services will be held at 3
o'clock Monday afternoon.  Interment will be made in Rose Hill cemetery.

RUSSELL CONWELL BURGER

Lifelong resident of East Freedom, where he had been engaged in business most
of his life, died this morning at 7.15 o'clock at the Nason hospital in
Roaring Spring, where he had been a patient since Sept. 26, when he underwent
an operation for hernia following which complications developed.  He was a son
of Harry C. and Jennie (Detrick) Burger and was born at East Freedom.  He was
united in marriage with Miss Kathleen Fox of South Fork on April 21, 1921. 
Surviving are the widow and these children: Bett Jane, Audry Jean, Dorothy
Lee, Russell Conwell and William Harry, all at home; his parents and two
sisters, Mrs. Howard King of East Freedom and Mrs. Nora Geig of Altoona.  Mr.
Burger enlisted in the army on May 3, 1917, and sailed for France on July 7,
1918, and served in the principal battles of the last year of the World
war.  He arrived in the United States on June 11, 1919, and was honorably
discharged at Camp Dix on June 18, 1919.  Mr. Burger served sa registration
assessor in Freedom township for some years and was a member of the Lutheran
church, the Claysburg American Legion, No. 522; Altoona lodge, No. 102, B. P.
O. E., and the Knights of Maccabees.  Funeral services will be conducted at
the home in East Freedom Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock in charge of his
pastor, Rev. Ralph W. Birk, assisted by Rev. M. L. Wilt, pastor of the United
Brethren church.  Interment will be made in the Vicksburg cemetery.  The body
may be viewed at the home any time after 7 o'clock Thursday evening, until
the time of the funeral.

MRS. DOROTHY BRAWLEY

Wife of Edgar Brawley of 1900 Eighteenth and One-half street, died at the
Altoona hospital at 2.50 o'clock this morning after having been ill for some
time.  She was born in Dallas, Tex. on July 17, 1898, a daughter of Andrew J.
and Hattie Thompson, and had resided in Claysburg and Altoona for a number of
years.  Surviving are her husband, one daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Miller, one
granddaughter, her mother, all of the city, one sister and two brothers,
Helen of the city and Andrew J. of Dallas, Tex., and John of Greensboro, N.
C.  Mrs. Brawley was of the Baptist faith.  The body may be viewed at the
Tobias & Laughlin funeral home, where funeral services will be held at 2.30
o'clock Saturday afternoon.  Interment will be made in Oak Ridge cemetery.

MRS. ISABEL BECK

Wife of Clair A. Beck of Unionville and a former resident of Altoona, died at
the University hospital Philadelphia, last night after several weeks'
illness.  She was born in Ireland, a daughter of John and Annie Anderson, but
had resided in Altoona from childhood until about eight years ago, since then
in Unionville.  During her residence in Altoona Mrs. Beck was a member of St.
Luke's Episcopal church.  Surviving are her husband and two daughters, Valeria
and Justina of Unionville; three brothers and one sister, John and Miss
Margaret Anderson of Unionville, William A. and James Anderson of the city. 
The body will arrive in Altoona tomorrow and will be taken to the Stevens
mortuary.

MRS. LULU ALMA BINGHAM

Wife of Daniel E. Bingham of 107 Twenty-sixth avenue, died at her home at
9.45 o'clock last night.  She was born in Fulton county on Oct. 15, 1892, a
daughter of Elijah and Jennie Anderson.  Surviving are her mother, her
husband, one daughter and three sons, Lawrence of Akron, O., Catherine,
Daniel and Paul Bingham, all at home; three brothers and one sister, Ralph
Anderson of South Carolina, Lawrence of Perryville, Md., Harold of Fulton
county, and Miss Virgie Anderson of Harrisburg.  Mrs. Bingham was a member of
the Fourth Street Church of God.  The body may be viewed at the home from 6
until 9 o'clock each evening until the funeral.

INFANT SON DIES

Mt. Union, Dec. 21.-An infant son of Herman E. and Huldah C. (Parsons) Beeler
born Friday, December 18, 1936 at the parental home at 21 E. Vandevender
street, died at birth.  After a prayer service at Blatt funeral home here
Friday afternoon, the tiny body was interred in the Book cemetery in Shade
Valley.

MRS. JESSE BRANT

Jennie V., wife of Jesse A. Brant, died at Ellerslie on Sept. 5, aged 69. 
Besides her husband, she leaves a daughter, Mrs. Ellen Holler, at home. 
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, Rev. J. L. Williams
officiating, and the remains conveyed to Cook's Mills, this county, for
interment.

MRS. WILLIAM BENNING

Mrs. Lucyanna (Fochtman) wife of William Benning, died suddenly at her home
near New Buena Vista of a heart attack Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 15.  She was
about 70 years of age and had been in ill health some time.  Funeral services
will be held at 9 this morning in St. John's Catholic Church, New Baltimore,
and interment made in the adjoining cemetery.

Deceased is survived by her husband, a daughter, Mrs. Rose Wolfhope of Rt. 2,
Bedford, and four grandchildren.  Also by the following sisters and brothers:
Mrs. Sylvester Leonard, Mrs. John Kelly, Mrs. Robert Irwin, Mrs. Alphonso,
Will, Rose, Josephine, Charles, Frank, John, Henry and William Fochtman,
residing in New Baltimore and vicinity.

GEORGE W. FOX

A former resident of Altoona but since January, 1932, a guest at the Masonic
home, Elizabethtown, died at the home on Saturday afternoon after a short
illness.  He was born at Yellow Springs on Dec. 23, 1853, a son of William
and Ruth Fox, and was married to Miss Elizabeth Grimminger.  He served the
Pennsylvania Railroad company as stationmaster at Littlestown until his
retirement when he moved to Eldorado.  Surviving are one sister and one
brother, Mrs. Anna Canty of the city and William Fox of Indianapolis, Ind. 
Mr. Fox was a member of the Second Avenue United Brethren church, the Hanover
Masons, and the Gettysburg commandery, Knights Templar.  The body will arrive
in Altoona tomorrow morning and may be viewed at the Lafferty funeral home
where funeral services will be held at 2.30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon with
Rev. F. W. Davis officiating.  Interment will be made in Fairview cemetery.

ALMA GERTRUDE FETTERS

Wife of George Fetters, died at her home, 104 East Thirteenth street, Tyrone,
Saturday evening at 7 o'clock of heart trouble.  Deceased was born on July 23,
1884, at Tyrone Forge and resided in the vicinity of Tyrone all her life.  She
was a daughter of James and Ellen Calderwood, deceased, and was united in
marriage with Mr. Fetters on Oct. 25, 1921, at Hollidaysburg.  She is
survived by her husband and one son, Jack, at home; also the following
brother and sisters: John Calderwood of Tyrone, Mrs. William Sawyer of
Steubenville, O., and Mrs. Stella Fields of Tyrone.  Mrs. Fetters was a
member of the Presbyterian church of Tyrone and the Mothers' auxiliary to the
Boy Scouts.  Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2.30
o'clock at the home, in charge of Rev. J. A. Speer, followed by interment in
Grandview cemetery.

MISS NELL FORD

Who has many relatives and friends in Altoona, died at 7.15 o'clock last
evening of a heart attack at her home, 627 South Aiken avenue, Pittsburgh,
according to word received today by Miss Mary Baird of 309 Beach avenue.  She
was prominently identified with the Catholic Daughters of America and the L.
C. B. A.  The funeral will be held in the cathedral in Pittsburgh on Saturday
morning at 9 o'clock, daylight saving time, and interment will be made in
Calvary cemetery in that city.

MRS. ELSIE MYRTLE FICKES

Wife of Clay Fickes, died at her home at King, Bedford county, last Friday
morning at 9.30 o'clock, death following an illness of three hours attributed
to a heart ailment.  She was the daughter of J. G. and Clara (Imler) Hengst
and was born at King on Feb. 13, 1893, where she resided all her life. 
Surviving are the husband and three sons, Russell, Benjamin and Kenneth, all
at home, and these brothers and sisters; William, Ira and Charles Hengst and
Mrs. William Hoenstine, all of King, and Mrs. Herman Wright of Queen.  She
was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran church at King, the Sunday school,
Ladies' Aid society, and was president of the Faithful Worker class. 
Services were conducted at the church at King this morning in charge of her
pastor, Rev. Ralph W. Birk, assisted by Rev. J. W. Bechtel, Reformed
minister.  Interment was made in the Union church cemetery.

GIDEON R. FELIX

Died at his home at New Paris, R. F. D., Bedford county, last Saturday, death
being attributed to a heart ailment.  He was the son of Thomas and Julian
(Rouzer) Felix and was born on Aug. 10, 1870, in Napier Township.  Surviving
are one brother and one sister, Daniel A. Felix of New Paris, R. F. D. No. 1,
and Mrs. Lydia Custer of Schellsburg, R. F. D., also by six nephews and
nieces.  Funeral services were conducted this afternoon at 2 o'clock at the
New Paris Evangelical church in charge of the pastor, Rev. Kauffman, and
interment was made in the Hull cemetery.

MRS. CATHERINE FARBER

Of Shirleysburg, Huntingdon county, died at her home a 6 o'clock Thursday
evening.  She was born in Ore Hill on Dec. 17, 1869, a daughter of William
and Elizabeth Hale.  Surviving are her husband, three daughters and two sons,
Mrs. E. Avers of East Shirleysburg, J. W. Farber of Lightsville, Misses Emma
and Martha and Clarence Farber, all of California; twenty-five grandchildren,
nine great-grandchildren, two sisters and one brother, Mrs. Molly McGee and
Frank Hale of Hollidaysburg and Mrs. Elizabeth Pearson of Ore Hill.  The
funeral will take place at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon at the Roaring Spring
Church of the Brethren.  Interment will be made in East Sharpsburg cemetery.

MRS. CAROLINE FOX

Widow of Morris Fox, died at her home in Dell Delight at 1 o'clock yesterday
afternoon.  She was born on Oct. 18, 1851, in Hollidaysburg, a daughter of
Philip and Thecia Beiter.  Surviving are seven sons and daughters, Mrs. John
Marks, Mrs. Walter George and Philip Fox, all of Hollidaysburg, George,
Stella, Joseph and Ursula, all at home: seventeen grandchildren, one
great-grandchild, and two brothers, Casper Beiter of Portage and Professor R.
H. Beiter of Gallitzin.  The funeral will be held Wednesday morning with
requiem mass at 9 o'clock in St. Michael's Catholic church.  Interment will
be made in St. Mary's cemetery.

ELIAS O. FRANELL

Of 124 East Walnut avenue died at the Altoona hospital at 9.55 o'clock this
morning.  He was aged 56 and formerly had been employed by the Pennsylvania
Railroad company.  Surviving are the father, E. P. Franell of Altoona, and
one son and one daughter, Isaac Franell, and Mrs. Edna Giarth, both of this
city.  His wife died several years ago.  There also survive two sisters and a
brother, Mrs. Margaret Turman, Mrs. Esther Gates and John Franell, all of
Altoona; together with two grandchildren.  The deceased was a member of the
Grace Methodist church.

The funeral of Elias O. Franell of 124 East Walnut avenue, who died at the
Altoona hospital Thursday, will be held from the family home on Sunday
afternoon at 2.30 o'clock.  Interment will be made in Grandview cemetery. 
The remains may be viewed at the home.

EUGENE FAGAN

A native of Altoona, died in Detroit, Mich., on Monday as the result of an
automobile accident which occurred on Sunday.  He was formerly employed in
No. 3 erecting shops of the Altoona works but since 1915 had been employed in
Detroit by the Packard Motor Car company.  He was born in Altoona on Oct. 25,
1886, a son of Michael and Katherine (Halton) Fagan.  Surviving are one
daughter, Madaline, and his mother, both of Detroit; three sisters and one
brother, Mrs. Annie Twyford and Margaret Fagan of the city, Mrs. Helen
Lavelle of United and Sylvester, at home.  Mr. Fagan was a member of St.
Leo's Catholic church, Detroit.  The body arrived in Altoona this morning and
may be viewed at the Twyford home, 2101 Twelfth avenue.  The funeral will be
held Friday morning with requiem mass at 9 o'clock in St. Leo's church. 
Interment will be made in Calvary cemetery.

MRS. MARTHA (HARE) FLECK

Wife of David L. Fleck of 528 Pleasant Valley boulevard, died suddenly at
5.15 o'clock this morning of pulmonary embolism at the Mercy hospital where
she has been a patient since June 15.  She was born in Duncansville, a
daughter of Orville G. and Lola H. Hare, and on June 12, 1928, was united in
marriage with Mr. Fleck, a member of the James S. Fleck's Sons firm. 
Surviving are her husband and father, of the city.  Mrs. Fleck was a member
of the Third Presbyterian church and of the Charles R. Rowan post, American
Legion, auxiliary.  The body may be viewed at the home after noon tomorrow.

MRS. WILLIAM FRITZ

An aged resident of Bedford county, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs.
Charles Spiker, near New Baltimore on Tuesday night, aged 80 years.  The
community is completely snowbound and a physician was unable to reach the
Spiker home and up to noon today the roads were still blocked so that a
funeral director was unable to reach the home.  No arrangements have been
made for the funeral pending the opening of a road.  Interment will be made
in the Schellsburg cemetery.

MARK R. FELKER

Aged 41, of Frankstown, died at the Cresson sanatorium at 1 o'clock Saturday
afternoon after several years' illness.  He was born in Beaver Springs,
Snyder county, on Feb. 13, 1895, son of James A. and Virginia (Woodring)
Felker.  During the World war he served with the 80th division, 395th
engineers band.  Surviving are his father of Beaver Springs, and three
brothers, Harry L. of Geeseytown, W. Reuben of Frankstown and Erman B. Felker
of Beaver Springs.  He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran church of Beaver
Springs, Juniata lodge, No. 282, F. and A. M., Mount Moriah chapter, No. 166
Harrisburg consistory and Jaffa Shrine.  The body has been taken to the home

HUNTINGDON, Feb. 29.-Miss Cloyetta Hawn Foust, aged 46, died at the Fisher
home in Oneida township Thursday evening.  She is survived by her mother,
Mrs. Jennie Hawn Foust of Huntingdon, and by four brothers and four sisters,
Fred Hawn and Les Hawn, both of Buffalo, N. Y., Ross Foust of Detroit, Mich.,
Paul Hawn and Mrs. Harry Droisbaugh, both of Huntingdon, Mrs. Esther Westphal
of Albany, N. Y., Mrs. F. B. Miller of Waynesboro and Miss Dorothy Hawn of
Buffalo, N. Y.  Funeral services will be conducted Monday afternoon at 2
o'clock by Rev. F. B. Statler of the Church of the Brethren.  Burial will be
made in the Riverview cemetery.  The body may be viewed any time at the Brown
mortuary until the hour of service.

Wife of Thomas Feather of 2206 Third avenue, died at her home at 3.25 o'clock
yesterday morning of pneumonia.  She was born on Sept. 13, 1873, in the state
of Indiana, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Clapper.  Surviving are her
husband, three sons, Paul, Russell, and Melvin, all of the city; seven
grandchildren, and two brothers, G. E. Clapper of the city and R. E. Clapper
of Canton, O., Mrs. Feather was a member of the Trinity Evangelical and
Reformed church.  The body may be viewed at the home where funeral services
will be held at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon.  Interment will be made in Rose
Hill cemetery.

MRS. ESTELLA HOPKINS

Wife of Harry G. Hopkins and a native of Iowa, but for some years a resident
of Mountaindale, died at the Mercy hospital yesterday morning at 8.50 o'clock
after a lingering illness, having been bedfast for the past eight months.  She
was the daughter of Peter and Montrey Miller and was born in Iowa on Feb. 24,
1871.  She was united in marriage with Mr. Hopkins in Coalport, Clearfield
county, on May 24, 1898, and soon afterwards went to Pitcairn where Mr.
Hopkins was employed by the Pennsylvania Railroad company as a fireman.  He
is now retired.  Surviving are the husband, two children, Virgil Hopkins of
Mountaindale and Mrs. Irene Myers of Blandburg; two sisters, Mrs. Flora Purdy
of Flemington and Mrs. I. B. Stuckey of Altoona; three brothers, Arthur Miller
of Pontiac, Mich., Edward of Mountaindale and John of Tyrone, and two
grandchildren, Marjorie and Jane Hopkins of Mountaindale.  One sister, Mrs.
Minnie Clark, and one brother, Joseph Miller of Pitcairn, are deceased.  Mrs.
Hopkins was an active member of the Mountaindale Baptist church.  Funeral
services will be conducted at the home Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock in
charge of her pastor Rev. G. W. Hatch.  Interment will be made in the
Pleasant Hill cemetery at Glasgow.

WILLIAM G. HOUSEMAN

Of 1429 Nineteenth avenue, died at his home at 8 o'clock this morning after
having been in failing health for the past several years and confined to his
home for the past five months.  He was born on the Bell farm in Pleasant
Valley, a son of Andrew J. and Sarah Ann (Morgan) Houseman on Dec. 7, 1866,
his father being employed as farmer there.  He grew up in Altoona, however,
and entered the service of the Pennsylvania Railroad company as a young man,
retiring four years ago as a machinist in the East Altoona roundhouse.  On
Sept. 1, 1892, he was united in marriage with Miss Ida Clarissa Leake of the
city, who survives, along with one son, Wilmer L. Houseman, at home.  Mr.
Houseman was the last surviving member of his immediate family.  He was a
member of the Christ Evangelical and Reformed church.  The body may be viewed
at the Tobias & Laughlin funeral home where funeral services will be held at
2.30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon.  Interment will be made in Fairview
cemetery.

HENRY I. HARRIS

Of 94 Logan avenue, Llyswen, died at 6.10 o'clock this morning of a cerebral
hemorrhage at the Mercy hospital where he was admitted for treatment on
Sunday.  He was born in Huntingdon on March 21, 1872, a son of Daniel and
Hannah (Summers) Harris, but had resided in Altoona for a number of years,
being employed by the Juniata blacksmith shop.  Surviving are his wife, Mrs.
Norah (Moran) Harris; two sons, James and Robert both at home; one brother
and one sister, John J. Harris of the city and Mrs. Anna Harten of
Philadelphia.  The body may be viewed at the Stevens mortuary where funeral
services will be held at 9.30 o'clock Friday morning.  Interment will be made
in Calvary cemetery.

ROBERT GUYER HUTCHISON

A World war veteran and former resident of Altoona, died in Los Angeles,
Calif., on Saturday, June 13, after having been ill since 1931.  He was born
on Aug. 31, 1886, in Warriors Mark, a son of Elmer E. and Viola (Guyer)
Hutchison.  He served as a member of company I, 64th Infantry, U. S. A., and
was wounded in action during the World war.  Surviving are his father, at the
Masonic home, Elizabethtown, and one sister, Mrs. Mary Mabel Hall of
Juniata.  Interment was made in the National Military cemetery, Los
Angeles.  While in Altoona following the war he was active in James L. Noble
post, Veterans of Foreign Wars.

MISS ADA M. HAUPT

Died at the home of a niece, Mrs. Edna Zentmyer, 1103 Lincoln avenue, Tyrone,
at 12.35 o'clock yesterday noon after several weeks' illness.  She was born in
Millheim, Centre county, on April 15, 1861, a daughter of Samuel and Eliza
(Auchmuty) Haupt, but had resided in Tyrone for many years.  Surviving is one
brother, Herman Haupt of Philadelphia, Mrs. Ogle Burley of Tyrone is also a
niece.  Miss Haupt was a member of the First Presbyterian church.  Funeral
services will be held at the Zentmyer home at 2.30 o'clock tomorrow
afternoon.  Interment will be made in Grandview cemetery.

ANTHONY H. HUBER

A native of East Carroll township, Cambria county, expired suddenly at his
home, 400 Summit avenue, Ferndale, Johnstown, Sunday morning at 11.30
o'clock, death being attributed to a heart attack.  He was the son of Jacob
S. and Catherine (Muller) Huber and was aged 51 years.  He had been engaged
in the insurance business in Johnstown and vicinity for many years. 
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Martha E. (Arble) Huber, and these children:
Paul A. Huber of Johnstown and Thomas E., James M., Roselyn E., Frederick,
and Marjory Huber, all at home.  Also surviving are these brothers and
sisters: Mrs. Nellie Tynion and Frank Huber, both of Brooklyn, N. Y., Harry
Huber of California, Miss Kate Huber of Pittsburgh and Mrs. R. E. Stolz of
Carrolltown.  The body was brought to the home of Mrs. Stolz in Carrolltown
today.  Funeral services will be conducted at 9 o'clock Wednesday morning in
St. Benedict's Catholic church and interment will be made in St. Benedict's
cemetery.

MILTON HAMMEL

Aged about 55, an employe of the Colonial hotel, died yesterday morning of a
heart condition from which he had suffered for some time.  He had been
employed at the hotel for the past year and earlier had been employed by P.
L. Morrison in the city.  A son, Charles Hammel of Johnstown, survives and is
in the city arranging for the funeral and interment.  The body was removed to
the Tobias & Laughlin funeral home.

JOHN B. HUTCHINSON

Of 111 Twenty-second street, a Pennsylvania railroad fireman in the local
yards, died suddenly at his home at 12.26 o'clock Saturday noon after having
been taken ill Friday evening.  He was born on Sept. 20, 1888, in Altoona, a
son of Samuel J. and Anna K. (Neisel) Hutchinson.  Surviving are his wife,
Mrs. Emma (Ingold) Hutchinson, one son and one daughter, Jolinne and William,
both at home; two brothers and one sister, C. R. and R. A. Hutchinson of the
city and Mrs. J. C. Bell of Washington, D. C.  Mr. Hutchinson was a member of
the Temple Lutheran church and the B. of L. F. and E.  The funeral will be
held at 2.30 o'clock tomorrow afternoon in the Temple Lutheran church. 
Interment will be made in Fairview cemetery.  The body may be viewed at the
home.

ILLNESS IS FATAL TO CLARENCE HYDE

The funeral of the late Clarence Hyde, aged 35, resident of Manns Choice,
Bedford county, who died early yesterday at the Timmins hospital at Everett,
is to be held on Sunday afternoon at 2.30 o'clock in the Mulligans Grove
Christian church in charge of Rev. N. A. Stamm.  Interment will follow in the
church cemetery.
Hyde's life was prolonged for a considerable period of time with the use of a
respirator whichh ad been sent to the Everett and Bedford county section from
Philadelphia in connection with flood relief work.  When Hyde's precarious
condition became known, on direct orders from Mayor S. Davis Wilson of
Philadelphia, the machine was set up at the hospital and used to keep Hyde
alive.
The man had suffered from a ruptured gastric ulcer and underwent an operation
at the hospital.  His condition became critical and with the use of the
respirator, he was apparently improving until night before last, he suffered
a severe relapse which ended in his death at 5.30 Friday morning.
The deceased was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Ambrose Hyde of Manns Choice and in
addition to his parents, surviving are his wife, Mrs. Vesta (Steckman) Hyde,
two children, Mildred P. and James C. Hyde, at home; a brother, Reynold, and
three sisters, Bertha B., Frances K. and Pauline Hyde.

Wife of David L. Hughes of 1108 South Twelfth street, died at her home at
8.05 o'clock this morning after an extended illness.  She was born in the
city on July 22, 1864.  Surviving are her husband, eight sons and daughters,
Walter, Charles, Clifford, David, Carl, Mrs. Stella Temple, Mrs. Maud
Sweltzer and Mrs. Merrill Rowles; twenty-six grandchildren, three brothers
and one sister, Edward Walton, Mrs. Eva Bisell, William and George Walton,
Mrs. Hughes was a member of the Methodist church.

Byres of Huntingdon county and was united in marriage with Grant Hooper of
Saxon, who died in 1918.  Surviving are four daughters and two sons; Miss
Mary Hooper of Orbisonia, Earl Hooper of Juniata, Mrs. Charles Shafer of
Bellwood, Mrs. Heaton of the city, Mrs. Pearl Gilbert of Mount Union and
Chester Hooper of the city; seventeen grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren.  The body may be viewed at the Heaton home.

FRANK H. HERMAN

For thirty-five years a hardware merchant in Everett, died at this home there
yesterday.  He was a member of the Methodist church and a leading figure in
many of the business and civic activities for many years.  He was a son of
Abraham and Catherine Karns Herman and was born in Bedford on Nov.26, 1857. 
He was married to Miss Olive Stiffler on March 12, 1878, who survives, with
the following children: John of Everett, Mrs. Bertha Gorsuch of Altoona, Mrs.
Mary Smouse of Everett, Mrs. Eliza Brumbaugh and Mrs. Sally Smouse of New
Enterprise, Frank, jr. of Harrisburg, George of Pittsburgh, William of
Reading and Mrs. Olive Barton of Everett.  Funeral services will be conducted
at the home Friday afternoon at 2.30 o'clock in charge of his pastor Rev. C.
F. Catherman.  Interment will be made in Everett.

Wife of William Nagler of Bedford, died at the Timmins hospital in Bedford on
Sunday, death being attributed to cancer.  Mrs. Nagler was a daughter of Grant
and Mary (Ritchey) Bollman and was born at Everett on May 23, 1895.  She was
united in marriage with William Nagler of Bedford, who survives, with two
brothers and two sisters, George and Carl Bollman, Mrs. Mary E. Suters and
Miss Gertrude Bollman, all of Everett.  She was a member of the Bedford
Reformed church, to which the body will be taken on Wednesday morning at 8.30
o'clock and services will be conducted by the pastor, Rev. J. Albert Eyler, at
9.30 o'clock.  Interment will be made in the Everett cemetery.

MRS. JANET NICHOLSON DIES AT MT. PLEASANT

CRESSON, Oct. 26.-Mrs. Janet (Ramsey) Nicholson, aged 61, widow of Robert W.
Nicholson and former resident of this place, died early Saturday morning at
the home of her brother-in-law and sister Mr. and Mrs. Charles Evans, at
Mount Pleasant, Westmoreland county, where she had been making her home since
removing from here one year ago.
She was born in Irwin on Jan. 15, 1875, a daughter of William and Janet
Ramsey.  Her marriage to Mr. Nicholson was solemnized in Mount Pleasant on
May 4, 1900.  Mrs. Nicholson is a former resident of Barnesboro and
Blairsville.
Surviving are two sons, Robert R. Nicholson of Jamaica, N. Y., and William
Nicholson of Omaha, Neb.: one brother, Robert Ramsey of Mount Pleasant, and
eight sisters, Mrs. Mary Evans, Mrs. Christine Wertz, Marie, Ann and Grace,
all of Mount Pleasant, Mrs. Beatrice Clark of Derry, Mrs. Bess Young of
Youngwood and Helen of Orrville.
Funeral services were conducted at 2.30 o'clock this afternoon at the home of
her sister, Mrs. Evans of Mount Pleasant, with interment being made in the
family plot at Irwin.

DANIEL J. NOEL

A native of Freedom township, where he grew to manhood, died Sunday morning
at 8.10 o'clock at the Mercy hospital where he had been admitted shortly
before, death being attributed to a hemorrhage of the throat.  Mr. Noel had
come to the home of a sister, Mrs. Harvey Glunt of 5820 Sixth avenue,
Eldorado, on Saturday evening and was apparently in good health when he
retired Saturday night.  He suffered the inward hemorrhage about 7 o'clock
Sunday morning.  He was a son of Samuel and Elizabeth Noel and was born on
Jan. 6, 1878.  Surviving are the following brothers and sisters:  John W.
Noel of Philadelphia, Thomas J. Noel of Hixton, near Duncansville, Joseph P.
Noel and Mrs. Clara S. Hufford of Beaverdale, Mrs. Jane McDonald of
Hollidaysburg and Mrs. Catherine Glunt of Eldorado.  The body may be viewed
at the home of Thomas J. Noel, near Duncansville, until the time of the
funeral, which will be conducted Wednesday morning at 9 o'clock at St.
Patrick's Catholic church in Newry.  Interment will be made in the church
cemetery.

SIMON EALY NUNEMAKER

A lifelong resident of New Paris and vicinity, died at his home at New Paris
yesterday afternoon at 1 o'clock, death being attributed to a heart
aflection.  He had been in failing health for some time but was confined to
his bed only three weeks.  He was a son of Eli and Elizabeth (Carson)
Nunemaker and was born on May 20, 1877, being the only child.  He was united
in marriage on Nov. 22, 1900, with Miss Bertha Miller, who survives with one
son and two daughters, Dr. Charles F. Nunemaker of Freemont, O., Mrs. Charles
Fyock of Johnstown and Miss Dorothy Nunemaker, at home, and one grandchild. 
Mr. Nunemaker was a member of the New Paris borough council.  Funeral
services will be conducted in the United Brethren church at New Paris Friday
morning at 10.30 o'clock in charge of the pastor, Rev. F. B. Hacket, assisted
by Rev. T. B. Mickel, pastor of the Church of the Brethren.  Interment will be
made in the Hull cemetery.

A former resident of Tyrone, died suddenly on Wednesday in St. John's
hospital, Cleveland, O.  He was a son of Forrest S. Nowlin, former Tyrone

Nowlin and Mrs. Ralph Thomas, all of Tyrone.  Funeral services will be held

MRS. LOUISA GRAHAM NORTON

Who resided at Houtzdale, Clearfield county, for many years, died this
morning at 4.30 o'clock at the home of her son, Benjamin H. Norton of Mill
Run road, near this city.  She had been ill four days.  Deceased was born in
Clearfield county on Oct. 3, 1856.  Mrs. Norton resided in Houtzdale until
1931, when she came to Altoona to make her home with her son.  Her husband,
W. S. Norton, died on Oct. 13, 1913.  She was the mother of five sons, three
of whom survive as follows:  Charles M. of Saxton, Benjamin H. of this city
and Leslie of Panama.  The sons preceding her in death were Oscar G. and
Leonard P. Norton.  She also leaves two brothers, Oscar and Matthew Graham,
both of Woodland, and one sister, Mrs. Ella Davis of Osceola Mills.  Mrs.
Norton was a member of the Methodist church at Houtzdale.

GEORGE ADAM WENRICH

Residing at 518 East Atlantic avenue died at his home last evening at 7
o'clock, following an illness since June 1.  He had been employed as a
blacksmith's helper in the Juniata shops.  The deceased was born Feb. 1,
1879, in Snyder county, a son of William and Suzanna Wenrich and was twice
married.  His first wife was Myrtle (Householder) Wenrich, now deceased. 
These children survive to this union:  Charles E. Wenrich, Robert E. Wenrich,
W. E. Wenrich and H. A. Wenrich, all of this city; a daughter, June, also of
Altoona, two grandchildren, and his second wife, Mrs. Edith (Knode) Wenrich
of Birmingham.  Two brothers and one sister also survive; M. A. Wenrich of
Middleburg, Charles H. Wenrich and Mrs. Sarah O. Smith, both of Selinsgove. 
Mr. Wenrich was a member of the Third United Brethren church, was a charter
member of the Junior Order United American Mechanics No. 370, and also was
affiliated with the Veteran Employes association, Y. M. C. A., the Keystone
Republican club and served as a committeeman in his ward.  Funeral services
are to be held on Friday afternoon at 2.30 o'clock in the Third United
Brethren church in charge of Rev. J. T. Farnsworth.  Interment will be made
in Rose Hill cemetery.  The remains may be viewed at the late home.

CESSNA FARMER FATALLY INJURED

Job Walter Succumbed Shortly After Being Struck by Truck Near Home

Job Walter, a prominent resident of Bedford Township, was struck by a
truck-trailer on the Horseshoe Trail at the Heltzel place, north of Cessna,
Monday afternoon, Oct. 5, about 4.40 o'clock and brought to the Timmins
Hospital by Postmaster W. Elmer Heltzel of Cessna.  He had sustained a
fractured skull, severe lacerations, compound fractures of both legs,
fractured right arm, and other serious injuries and passed away about 5.15
without regaining consciousness.
Mr. Walter had been assisting his son, Bruce, to crate some recently picked
apples and, needing nails for some of the crates, had decided to walk to the
Heltzel store.  He stopped at the old Heltzel home to speak to C. E. Wagoner
and son, who were painting, and as he turned to leave, the driver of a truck,
R. E. Loughoff of Danville, Va., pulled to the left side of the road in order
to avoid striking him.  He evidently saw the truck coming and became confused
apparently turning into the path of the trailer, which struck him with
considerable force.
Job Walter was a son of Jacob and Susanna (Sill) Walter and was born near
Bedford on Jan. 31, 1860, following farming practically all his life.  On
Sept. 13, 1885, he was married to Annie Stufft, who passed away some years
ago.
The following children survive, Edgar Walter of Conemaugh, Clyde and Charles
of Waterville, O., Mrs. Humphrey Heltzel of Martinsburg, and Suie and Bruce
at home.  Also, three sisters, Mrs. Linnie Crissman of Keytesville, Mo.; Mrs.
Georgie Picket of St. Louis, Mo., and Mrs. Park Amick of Philadelphia.
He was a member of the Evangelical Church.  Funeral services were held
yesterday afternoon at his late home by Rev. M. L. Kaufman of Alum Bank, and
interment made in the Bedford cemetery.
Mr. Walter had returned about two weeks ago from visits with all of his
children and was in his usual health.  The entire community was shocked by
the sad news.

and united in marriage with Alcinda O'Neal and following her death to Mary
Oaks, both of whom preceded him in death.
Three daughters and four sons survive:  Mrs. Ethel Wolfe and Mrs. Esther
Olmstead of Johnstown; Ruby Worthing of Los Angeles, Calif.; David of
Riddlesburg; Thomas and Samuel of Saxton and Evan of Hopewell.  He was a
member of the Methodist Church at Riddlesburg, where funeral services were
conducted yesterday afternoon by his pastor, Rev. N. J. Simmons, and
interment made in the Hopewell cemetery.
Mr. Worthing was a retired general merchant and postmaster; he had also been
registrar in Broad Top Township and a trustee in the Riddlesburg M. E.
Church.  A year and a half ago he went to Johnstown to reside with his
daughter.

FORMER OFFICIAL OF COUNTY DIES

Calvin Walter, Commissioner from 1909 to 1920, Expires at Claysburg home at
Age of 82 Years.
Calvin Walter, former county commissioner and long an outstanding citizen of
Blair county, died at his home in Claysburg at 12.45 o'clock yesterday
afternoon after an extended illness.  He suffered a stroke of paralysis
several years and his health was impaired thereafter.
Mr. Walter was born in Greenfield township on July 24, 1854, being one of a
family of five children born to Joseph H. and Susannah (Claar) Walter.  His
father was a soldier in the Civil war, serving in company K, 19th
Pennsylvania cavalry, and he died while in the service at Memphis, Tenn., in
1863.
Mr. Walter was educated in the public schools of Greenfield township and then
learned the cabinet making trade and with it combined undertaking.  He was
thus engaged for a period of twenty-seven years, retiring from business when
he was elected county commissioner.
Long prominent in the public affairs of his home community, in 1908 Mr.
Martin was nominated for the office of county commissioner on the Democratic
ticket.  He was twice reelected and his service extended over a period of
twelve years, until 1920.
He made an excellent county commissioner.  A man of good judgment, wise in
counsel, Mr. Walter rendered valuable service to the people in the way of
conserving the county's finances and in building good roads and bridges.  His
twelve years in office were marked by the greatest progress in htese
directions in the county's history.  He held various positions in the local
government of his home town and township.
Mr. Walter was married first to Elizabeth Walter, of the same family name,
but no relation.  Later he was married to Miss Sarah Black, a daughter of
Michael Black.  She also preceded him in death.
Surviving are three children: Kirk Walter of Claysburg, John H. of
Hollidaysburg, R. D., and Mary at home.  Other sudvivors include a brother,
Frank of Williamsburg, a half-brother, Justice of the Peace H. G. King of
Hollidaysburg, fourteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was a member of the Church of the Brethren.  The funeral services will be
held on Sunday afternoon at 2.30 o'clock at the home, with Rev. C. I. Cox
officiating.  Interment will be made in the Lutheran ccemtery at Claysburg.

BROTHER OF ALTOONA MAN DIES IN PANAMA

Henry A. Wertz of 401 Coleridge avenue, Llyswen, this morning received a wire
from a sister in California notifying him of the death of a brother, Frank
Mauk Wertz, native and former resident of this city, who died yesterday
afternoon from pneumonia in Panama.
The message came from Mrs. Harriet F. Allen of Los Angeles, Calif., sister of
the Altoona man.  The deceased was a chief machinist mate in the United States
navy and had been an expert on diesel engines.  Prior to entering the navy
years ago he had been employed as a Pennsy fireman on the Middle division.
Mr. Wertz was born in this city April 1, 1893, a son of Samuel A. and Martha
(Mauk) Wertz, both deceased.  He spent his early days here and also for a
time resided in Claysburg.  He was in the navy many years and soon would have
been eligible for retirement.
The deceased's home was in San Diego, Calif., and surviving are his wife,
Mrs. Meta (Schatzer) Wertz, the sister in Los Angeles, the brother in this
city and another sister, Mrs. John L. Carn of Claysburg, together with three
children, Eleanor, John and Frank, all of Juniata.
Lately Mr. Wertz had been aboard the U. S. S. Dolphin, submarine vessel, a
type of ship on which the former Altoonan served in recent years.  He had
also been located for a time at New London, Conn., at the submarine base
there.
The Altoona brother was informed that the funeral likely would be held at the
Arlington national cemetery.

MAN FATALLY HURT IN MISHAP ON HIGHWAY

CARROLLTOWN, May 5.-Fatally injured when he was hit by an automobile operated
by Mrs. George Wildeman, wife of the cashier of the Barnesboro First National
bank, Joseph Roman, aged 56, resident of West Branch, between Barnesboro and
Spangler, was pronounced dead when he was admitted to Miners' hospital,
Spangler, Saturday evening.  The victim suffered a crushed right chest, a
fracture of the right clavicle, face lacerations and probable internal
injuries.  Roman was walking on the highway in North Spangler when he was
hurt.  It is believed he was blinded by lights from a car moving in an
opposite direction.  Mrs. Wilderman was accompanied by Miss Pearl Lantzy of
Spangler at the time of the accident.
Joseph Roman was born in Poland, but lived at West Branch for the past
thirty-five years.  His wife died about ten years ago.  Surviving are eight
children:  Mrs. Joseph Horia, John and Andrew Roman, of New York city, Misses
Mary and Agnes Roman and Stephen, Joseph and Michael Roman, all at home.  He
also leaves three grandchildren.
Funeral rites will be held at St. John's Slovak Catholic church, Barnesboro
at 9 o'clock Wednesday morning.  Rev. Father Frankovsky, pastor, to
officiate.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.
An inquest will be held at 7 o'clock Wednesday evening in the Spangler
Municipal building, with Coroner Cyrus W. Davis of Conemaugh in charge.

SALEM J. WOLF

BUSINESS VETERAN EXPIRES AT HOME

Salem J. Wolf, aged 81, Hardware Merchant for Sixty-five Years, Succumbs
After Brief Illness.
Salem J. Wolf, Aged 81, of 2430 Broad avenue, one of the pioneer hardware
merchants of Hollidaysburg and Altoona, having spent sixty-five years in the
business, died at his home at 2.10 o'clock yesterday afternoon after a short
illness.
Mr. Wolf was born in Hollidaysburg on June 17, 1854, a son of Adam J. and
Elizabeth Wolf, and in 1870 began his career in the hardware business by
entering the E. E. Locke, jr. hardware store in Hollidaysburg.  Six years
later he succeeded Mr. Locke and the firm name was changed to A. J. Wolf &
Son.
After five years, the young Mr. Wolf purchased his father's interest in the
business and continued the establishment until 1892, when he came to Altoona
and formed a partnership with a brother, Henry A. Wolf, the company being
known as the Altoona Hardware Supply company, the store being located at 1318
Eleventh avenue.
When the partnership with his brother was dissolved Mr. Wolf engaged in
business for himself in a store located at 1414 Eleventh avenue and in 1913
purchased the building at 1712-14 Eleventh avenue,  where his son, Salem J.
Wolf, jr. has been active manager for some time.
On Jan. 25, 1877, Mr. Wolf was united in marriage with Miss Julia Ann
McCormick of East Freedom and the couple celebrated their golden wedding
anniversary in 1927.  Mrs. Wolf died on Sept. 3, 1933.
Surviving Mr. Wolf are four daughters and one son, Mrs. L. R. Curry of the
city, Mrs. Grace W. Morrow, Misses Elizabeth J. and Charlotta T. Wolf, all at
home, and Salem J. Wolf, jr., also of the city.  Three grandchildren, E.
Louise Curry, David Curry, jr., and Mary Catherine Curry, also survive.  Mr.
Wolf was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Mr. Wolf was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic church where the
funeral will be held Saturday morning with requiem mass at 9 o'clock. 
Interment will be made in Calvary cemetery.  The body may be viewed at the
home after 4 o'clock this afternoon.

CHARLES PATRICK WOODS

Aged 74, a lifelong resident of Hollidaysburg, died suddenly yesterday
afternoon at his home, 914 Montgomery street, having been stricken while on
his way to work at the McLanahan-Stone company plant.  He was born in
Hollidaysburg on Aug 24, 1861, a son of Patrick and Alice Woods, and had been
employed by the McLanahan-Stone company since 1881.  His wife died in 1922. 
Surviving are two sons and two daughters, Thomas and Raymond Woods of
Hollidaysburg, Marie of Homestead and Mrs. Frank McGowan of Irwin, and one
brother, Thomas Woods of Millmont park.  Twelve grandchildren and one
great-grandchild also survive.  Mr. Woods was a member of St. Mary's Catholic
church of Hollidaysburg and of the Artisans.
The funeral of Charles Patrick Woods of 914 Montgomery street, Hollidaysburg,
will be held tomorrow morning with requiem mass at 9 o'clock in St. Mary's
church, interment will be made in St. Mary's cemetery, Hollidaysburg.
