JAMES W. FAGAN

A retired railroad employe was found dead in bed at his home, 435 Seventh
avenue at noon yesterday.  He had been in failing health for the past
eighteen months and he evidently had passed away during the late night or
early morning.  When members of his family went to his room at noon they
found his lifeless body.  He was born in Altoona on Oct. 17, 1857 and lived
his entire life in the Eighth ward, he was the oldest son of Lawrence and
Mary (McFadden) Fagan.  He retired twelve years ago from the East Altoona
roundhouse where he had been employed as a machinist.  He was united in
marriage with Mary Fluke of Altoona in the year 1881, the ceremony had been
performed at St. (?) Catholic church. His wife, four sons and two daughters
survive as follows: Lawrence P. Fagan of Lewistown, Charles J. of
Pittsburgh, Robert F. of Altoona.  Roscoe G. at home, Mrs. Ellen Schell of
Altoona and Mrs. Olga M. (?) at home.  Fifteen grandchildren, two great
grandchildren and two brothers also survive his brothers are: Charles and
Harry Fagan, both of Altoona.  He was a member of St. Marks Catholic
church.  The body may be viewed at the home.  Please omit flowers.

WILLIAM B. HEACOX

Of 510 Twentieth street, shipping foreman for the Vance Transfer company at
the A&P warehouse, died at his home at 12.38 yesterday noon of a
complication of diseases after an extended illness his condition having been
serious since Saturday.  He was born in the city on June 8, 1904, a son of
George W. and Letta P. (Bowen) Heacox; and was educated in the local public
schools.  On Oct. 10, 1931, he was united in marriage with Miss Anna
Katherine Shingler at Lewistown at Johnstown.  Surviving are his wife, three
sons, Donald Earl, William B. and George W. Heacox, all at home; two sisters
and three brothers, Mrs. Paul Weyandt of the city, Miss Pearl, at home,
George W., jr. of Charlotte, N. C., Charles F. of the city and Robert B.
Heacox, at home.  Mr. Heacox was a member of the First United Brethren
church, where funeral services will be held at 2.30 oclock Thursday
afternoon with Rev. J. D. Good, D.D., pastor, officiating, assisted by Rev.
Louis H. Glass.  Interment will be made in Rose Hill cemetery.  The body may
be viewed at the home of his parents, 1822 Twelfth avenue.

MAN DROPS DEAD WHILE PLOWING

After spending the morning yesterday in hunting, James B. Hinton of Bedford
street, Hollidaysburg returned to his home and started to plow a small lot
which he plants in vegetables every year.  As he was plowing, he was
suddenly seized with a heart attack and dropped to the ground.  Men who were
working across the street found him to be dead when they reached his side.
A physician who was summoned at once to the scene said that death had been
instantaneous and had resulted from a heart attack.  Mr. Hinton had been
afflicted with a heart condition for some time.
James B. Hinton was a son of Joseph and Barbara Strayer Hinton, and was born
in Woodbury township, Bedford county, on May 19, 1877.  He was married
thirty-nine years ago to Miss Annie McGee of Bedford county.  For a number
of years he was employed at the rolling mills in Duncansville and since 1919
had resided in Hollidaysburg.
He is survived by his wife a daughter, Anna May Hinton, and two brothers,
George and David Hinton of Duncansville.
The body was removed to the funeral home of Cramer and VanAltman.

SHORT ILLNESS FATAL TO GALLITZIN MAN

GALLITZIN, Dec 5. - After an illness of three days, George Lesko, aged 48,
of 825 Wilson street, Gallitzin, well known employe of the Pennsylvania
Railroad company, expired at 4.50 oclock yesterday morning.  The deceased
became ill on Thanksgiving day and over the week-end a decline was noted in
his condition.
Born on Feb. 2, in Austria, the deceased was a son of George Lesko, residing
in the old country, and the late Annie (Rawosky) Lesko.  He has been a
resident of Gallitzin the past twenty-two years, having emigrated to America
in 1911.
In addition to his father, his widow, Mrs. Annie (OPhroskey) Lesko
survives, together with three daughters, Mary, wife of John Prokop, jr., of
Cresson; Julia, wife of Michael Suruzicu of Gallitzin, and Miss Julia Lesko,
at home.  Three grandchildren also survive and one sister, Mary, wife of
Joseph Haluska of Gallitzin.
The deceased held membership in the Jednota society of Gallitzin and the St.
Marys Polish Catholic church, where they funeral services will be conducted
at 9 oclock Thursday morning.  A high mass will be celebrated by the parish
rector, Rev. Father Francis Pilz.  Interment will be made in the church
cemetery at Tunnelhill.

GEORGE D. BOWERS

A message, which somehow was delayed was received on Tuesday by Albert
Bowers of Martinsburg informing him of the death of his brother, George D.
Bowers, who died on Aug. 4, at his home in Washington, Mo., of ailments
incident to advanced age.  He was born Nov. 3, 1850, at Sniveleys mill on
Clover Creek, a son of Henry H. and Sarah (Sniveley) Bowers.  He was married
in Missouri to Miss Mildred Herman, who survives with one daughter, Mrs.
John Calvin of Washington, Mo.  He is also survived by six brothers, Frank
P. of East Freedom, John S. of Altoona, Samuel C. of St. Louis, Mo., Luther
L. of Oklahoma City, Okla., C. J. of Seattle, Wash., and Albert of
Martinsburg, also by one sister, Mrs. Jo. O. Lessel of Falls, Neb.  He was a
member of the Presbyterian church.  Mr. Bowers went west at the age of 21
years.  He was employed by the Missouri Pacific Railroad company where he
served as train conductor and yard master up to the time of his retirement. 
Funeral services were conducted and interment made on Aug. 6 at Washington,
Mo.

MRS MARTHA J. HAMMON DIES AT CEDARCREST

MOUNT UNION, Oct. 19. - Mrs. Martha Jane Hammon, wife of R. P. Hammon, died
at her home in Cedarcrest on Wednesday, Oct. 17, at 5.15 p.m., passing a few
hours preceding the anniversary of her birth.  Mrs. Hammon was born in
Henderson township on Oct. 18, 1854.  She had been a resident here for the
past eighteen years, where she was highly respected.
Surviving are the husband and the following children by a former marriage: 
Mrs. Harry Brundle and Matthew W. Everhart, both of E?ken, Mrs. Hannah L.
Morningstar of Hanover and Mrs. John Snyder of Burnham.  These brothers and
sister also survive: Lewis Merritts of Mooresville, Wilson Merrits of
Pittsburgh and Mrs. Anna Stull of Tyrone.  Twenty-two grandchildren,
forty-four great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren also
survive.
The body was at the Dunmire funeral home until 1 oclock this afternoon and
was then taken to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Snyder at Burnham, where
funeral services will be conducted tomorrow at 2 oclock in charge of Rev.
Henry Stambaugh.  Interment will be made in the Lewistown cemetery.

MRS. BERTHA OTTELIE BOLDT

Of 1108 Eighteenth avenue, widow of John Henry Boldt, died at her home at
6.45 oclock last evening of a complication of diseases after a short
illness.  She was born in Kulm, West Prussia, Germany, on Sept. 19, 1862,
and had resided in Altoona for the past forty-seven years, coming to this
country and to Altoona with her husband and three children.  Mr. Boldt died
twenty-one years ago.  Surviving are eleven sons and daughters, August,
Henry, Fred, Mrs. Earl Taylor, Charles, Mrs. Ralph Kepple and Robert Boldt,
all of the city, Herman of Canton, O., Mrs. Clyde Banks of Latrobe, Paul of
Blairsville, Mrs. Ed Hauser of Washington, D. C. and Albert Boldt of
Reading.  Fifteen grandchildren and one sister in Germany, also survive. 
Mrs. Boldt was a member of St. James Lutheran church where funeral services
will be held at 2.30 oclock Sunday afternoon.  Interment will be made in
Rose Hill cemetery.  The body may be viewed at the home.

RETIRED SHOPMAN EXPIRES SUDDENLY

Suffering a sudden heart attack while sitting on the back porch of his home
about 6.40 oclock this morning, Charles Heinzman, aged 71, of 422 Walton
avenue, a well known retired employe of the Juniata shops, died within a few
minutes.
Mr. Heinzman had suffered from a heart condition for the past several years
but his condition had not been of a serious nature.  He made no complaint of
being ill prior to his death this morning, getting up at the usual hour and
spending a short time in his yard before sitting down in a chair on the
porch.
Mrs. Heinzman was eating breakfast in the kitchen, just off the porch, and
talking with her husband from time to time.  Hearing what sounded like a
snore from him she went to his side and found him in a stupor, from which he
did not recover.  He died in her arms before a physician could be called.
Mr. Heinzman was born in Baden, Germany, on Feb. 12, 1863, and came to this
country as a youth, having lived in Altoona for the past fifty-four years. 
He retired four years ago from the Juniata blacksmith shop where he had been
employed for many years.
He and Mrs. Heinzman celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on May 13,
of this year.  Surviving are only his wife, Mrs. Catherine (Everhardt)
Heinzman one sister, Mrs. L. R. Mathieu of the city, and one brother and one
sister in Germany.  Mr. Heinzman was a member of the P. R. R. veterans
association.
The body may be viewed at the home where funeral services will be held at
2.30 Wednesday afternoon.  Interment will be made.

DAVID SANDUSKY

A resident of Pittsburgh and having relatives and friends in Altoona, died
in Pittsburgh at 5.30 oclock this evening.  He was aged 63 years.  He is
survived by his widow, Mrs. Ethel Sandusky, and four sisters, Mrs. Betty
Simon, Mrs. Samuel J. Schugar, Mrs. Louis Gordon, jr., and Mrs. Simon
Zeldman, all of Pittsburgh.  The funeral will take place from the home of
Mrs. Simon, 1800 Locust street, at 2 oclock Friday afternoon.  Interment
will be made at Pittsburgh.

MRS. GRACE ELENORA MYERS STIFFLER

Wife of M. H. Stiffler of 611 Fourth avenue, Lakemont, died at 3.30 oclock
this morning at the family home.  She had been ill for some time suffering
from a complication of diseases.  She was born on Jan 29, 1906, at Windber,
a daughter of Clarence and Minnie (Kelley) Myers.  Surviving are the
parents, the husband and three children, Edward, Charles and Mae Louise, all
at home, and two brothers, Charles and George Myers both of Altoona.  She
was a member of the Lakemont Bible mission.  The remains will be taken to
the home of her parents at 601 Fourth avenue, Lakemont, and they may be
viewed after 6 oclock tonight.  The funeral cortege will leave the home at
1.30 oclock Sunday afternoon with services at 2.30 oclock at the King
church, Bedford county, in charge of Brother Ralph Jones, assisted by Rev.
L. H. Glass.  Interment will be made at the King cemetery.  Friends and
relatives are asked to please omit flowers.

JAMES P. SARVIS

Of 1326 Fifth avenue, a retired employe of the Pennsylvania Railroad
company, died at the Altoona hospital at 12.10 oclock this morning of a
complication of diseases after having been a patient at the hospital for the
past month.  He was born in East Waterford, Juniata county on Nov. 9, 1868 a
son of Columbus C. and Mary W. Sarvis.  He had located in Altoona as a young
man and retired from the railroad company service last November as a gang
leader.  Surviving are his wife, one brother and one sister, John B. Sarvis
and Mrs. C. F. Kohl, all of the city.  The body may be viewed after 6
oclock this evening at the Gilden funeral home where funeral services will
be held at 2.30 oclock Friday afternoon.  Interment will be made in
Fairview cemetery, Martinsburg.  Friends are requested to omit flowers.

MRS. SARAH CHRISTINE POET

Aged 87, widow of Thomas W. Poet, died at the home of a niece, Mrs. John G.
Brenner, 2528 Maple avenue, at 11.20 oclock Saturday night.  She was born
on June 11, 1847, at Lebanon, a daughter of John and Magdeline (Williams)
Hawk.  Her husband died in 1919.  Surviving are one son, Alex Marshall of
Aliquippa, and one step-daughter, Mrs. Francis Prosser of the city.  Mrs.
Poet was a member of the First Church of God.  Funeral services will be held
at the Brenner home on Tuesday afternoon at 2.30 oclock.  Interment will
follow in Oak Ridge cemetery.

S. R. VANDEVANDER

Who resided in Bellwood for many years, died suddenly yesterday afternoon at
5 oclock at Punxsutawney, where he went only recently.  He was employed by
the Pennsylvania Railroad company as a conductor on the Cresson branch.  Mr.
Vandevander was born in Altoona sixty-four years ago, a son of Robert and
Jane Bartlebaugh Vandevander.  His wife, Katherine died on Nov. 9, 1928. 
Surviving are one son, Walter of Altoona, one daughter, Mrs. Annie Johnson
of Tyrone; one brother, Horace of Bellwood and four sisters, Mrs. W. O.
Stewart and Mrs. G. C. Moffitt of Altoona, Mrs. Harry Haight of Philadelphia
and Miss Laura Vandevander of Harrisburg.  The deceased was a member of the
Bellwood Methodist church and the B. of R. T. in this city.  He was a well
respected and highly esteemed resident of Bellwood for many years.  Funeral
services will be conducted in the Fuoss & Glass Funeral church in Bellwood
on Friday afternoon at 2 oclock in charge of Rev. J. F. Anderson of
Bellwood.  Interment will be made in Logan Valley cemetery.

DEATH OF A CHILD

Gilbert D. Campbell, son of Gilbert and Martha (Sager) Campbell died
suddenly Saturday morning at the parental home on North Tuckahoe street,
Bellwood.  He was born on May 21 this year.  Surviving are the parents and
three brothers, Samuel, Eugene and Roy at home.  Funeral services were
conducted Sunday afternoon at 2.30 oclock in charge of Rev. H. Paul Cox,
pastor of the Church of the Brethren.  Interment was made in the Logan
Valley cemetery.

SUPERINTENDENTS WIFE KILLED IN AUTO MISHAP

CHARLEROI, Pa.,  Jan. 2 - Mrs. James Killiun, aged 45, wife of the
superintendent of Johnstown schools, died in the Charlerol-Monessen hospital
here last night from injuries suffered in an automobile accident.

Mrs. Myrtle B. Heiner, Mrs. Killiuns mother also was injured, but was
reported resting fairly comfortable in the hospital today.
Mrs. Killun was motoring with her husband to C(?), Pa., Mrs. Heiners home,
where Superintendent Killiun had been scheduled to speak, when the
automobile struck a soft shoulder and plunged off the highway yesterday. 
Killiun, two of his children, James D. and Ruth Eleanor, and Mrs. Killiuns
niece, Clarice Heiner, aged 16, were not hurt.

FATAL DRINKING SPREE

PITTSBURGH, Jan 2 - A New Years drinking spree today had caused one death
and landed one man in a hospital and another in jail.  Peter Mullen, aged 2?,
was held under observation in St. Francis hospital.  His companion, James
Meenan, aged 32, died of acute gastro enteritis, the coroner reported.

RESTAURATEUR IS CALLED BY DEATH

Adam Henry Kyle, aged 61, of 517 Willow avenue, well known former
restaurateur of the city, was found dead in bed at his home at 6 oclock
this morning by his wife.
Mr. Kyle had been in ill health for several years, suffering from a heart
condition.  For the past several weeks his condition had been regarded as
serious, but not immediately critical.  Death apparently occurred several
hours before Mrs. Kyle visited the room.
Born in Germany on Jan. 24, 1873, Mr. Kyle came to Altoona with his parents,
George and Margaret Kyle, as a boy, growing up in the city and residing here
ever since.
He first entered the restaurant business when but 16 years old and continued
for a number of years, retiring some twenty years ago.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Ida (Bennett) Kyle, at the home and one
brother, William Kyle of Lakemont.
Mrs. Kyle was a member of the First Lutheran church of the city.  The body
may be viewed at the Lafferty funeral home.  Friends are requested to omit
flowers.

BERNARD LLOYD

Well known resident of Hastings, Cambria county, and affiliated with the
Chestnut Ridge Coal company, died at his home there Saturday evening at 5
oclock following an illness of one year.  Surviving are his wife Mrs.
Catherine McNelis Lloyd and two daughters, Mary and Elizabeth, and one
brother and two sisters, James and Mary Lloyd of Gallitzin and Mrs. Margaret
Lyon of Pittsburgh.  He was a member of St. Bernards Catholic church and
the Knights of Columbus.  Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 9
oclock in St. Bernards church and interment will be made in the church
cemetery.

MRS. ALLIE REIGHARD

Widow of S. S. Reighard, died at her home, 2317 Broad avenue, at 2.48
oclock this morning of a complication of diseases after having been ill for
the past three weeks.  She was born at Whitesville, Jefferson county, on
Feb. 1, 1859, a daughter of Dr. John H. and Susan Jane Weaver, and came to
Altoona with her parents as a young woman, her father practicing his
profession in the city for some years.  On March 7, 1877, she was united in
marriage with Samuel S. Reighard at Claysburg, where they resided for a year
and then located in Altoona.  Mr. Reighard died on Feb. 17, 1933, and a son
George D. Reighard, died on June 20 of this year.  Surviving are three sons
and three daughters, J Clyde Reighard of Mo(?), (?), Mrs. Paul Weidley of
Baltimore, Md., Mrs. R. P. Miller, David L. and Howard Reighard and Mrs.
Charles Rice, all of the city.  One sister, Mrs. May Shaw, in the home, nine
grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survive.  Mrs. Reighard was one
of the oldest members of the First Lutheran church of the city, having held
membership there for the past sixty-five years.  She was also a member of
the Womens Missionary society of the church.  The body may be viewed at the
Lafferty funeral home where funeral services will be held at 2.30 oclock
Monday afternoon with Rev. Luke H. Rhoads, acting pastor of the First
Lutheran church, officiating.  Interment will be made in Fairview cemetery.

PAUL R. IRWIN

Aged 33, of 652 Walden avenue, Buffalo, N. Y., died at the home of his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. William F. Irwin, 616 Eighth avenue, Juniata, at 9.25
oclock last night.  He was born on Sept. 6, 1901, in the city,  a son of
William F. and Cora M. (Talhelm) Irwin, and had been employed as a brakeman
on the New York Central railroad at Buffalo, N. Y., since Sept. 8, 1920.  He
was vice president of the Brotherhood of Railroad firemen, East Buffalo
lodge, No. 21.   Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Margaret (Bolton) Irwin, and
three brothers, Edgar C. Irwin of McDonald, O., Ira R. and James R. Irwin,
at home.  Funeral services will be held at the parents home at 2.30 oclock
Wednesday afternoon.  Interment will be made in Alto-Reste cemetery.

FRANK HENRY IRVINE

Well known resident of Duncansville, died yesterday afternoon at 2.45
oclock at his home, 911 Second avenue, that place, his death being
attributed to anemia.  He had been ill for the past two months and bedfast
for two weeks.  He was born at Newry, Pa., on Sept. 11, 1871, and was a son
of James and Elizabeth (Shaw) Irvine.  He became a resident of Duncansville
at the age of 7 years and resided there ever since.  On July 26,  1893 , at
Altoona, he was united in marriage with Miss Clyde Buchanan, who survives
together with seven children.  Mrs. Grace Douglas and Mrs.  Jane Barnes of
Hollidaysburg and Mrs. Mary Haselbarth, Ruth, Alice, Frank, jr., and George,
all at home.  He is also survived by two brothers and a sister, William of
Hollidaysburg, Ray of Philadelphia and Miss Annie Irvine of Duncansville,
and by eight grand children.  He was employed as a car builder helper at the
westbound repair track of the Middle division at Altoona.  About twenty-five
years ago he met with a serious accident while at his work and was a
hospital patient for twenty-two weeks.  He never was in normal health since
that time, although he was able to follow light duties.  He was affiliated
with the P. R. R. relief and the Duncansville camp of the Modern Woodmen of
America.  He was a Presbyterian by faith.  The funeral will be held on
Thursday afternoon at 2.30 oclock at the home, with Rev. Julian Park,
pastor of the Duncansville Presbyterian church officiating.  Interment will
follow in the Carson valley cemetery.

FRANK C. LOWER

For many years a resident of Altoona and an employe of the test department
of the Pennsylvania Railroad company, died in Willow Grove, near
Philadelphia, at 10.40 oclock last night.  He was born in Philadelphia on
June 20, 1855, a son of Samuel and Mary A. (VanHorn) Lower, and came to
Altoona with his parents more than fifty years ago.  After being employed in
the local test department for many years, he was transferred more than
twelve years ago to Philadelphia as an inspector, retiring from the railroad
company service eight years ago.  Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mildred
(Swigart) Lower, and one sister, Mrs. George Steward of the city.  During
his residence in Altoona, Mr. Lower was a member of the First Methodist
church.  The body will arrive in Altoona this afternoon and may be viewed
after 7 oclock this evening at the Stevens mortuary where funeral services
will be held at 3 oclock tomorrow afternoon.  Interment will be made in Oak
Ridge cemetery.

JOHN COOPER ESHELMAN

Resident of Roaring Spring, died last night at 9 oclock at the Nason
hospital at Roaring Spring of cancer after a long illness.  He was born on
Dec. 20, 1868, in Piney Creek, a son of William and Elizabeth Barr
Eshelman.  He was the last member of his family, being survived only by a
number of nieces and nephews.  He was a life-long resident of the cove,
living mostly in Roaring Spring and working on the farms in the cove
district.  He was a member of the Methodist church at Roaring Spring. 
Funeral services will be conducted on Friday morning at 10 oclock at the
Rearick & Miller funeral parlors at Martinsburg in charge of Rev. Benjamin
F. Shue, pastor of the Methodist church at Martinsburg.  Interment will
follow in the Spring Hope cemetery.

EDWARD L. WEIL

Of Philadelphia, a former resident of Altoona, died suddenly at 7.30 oclock
last evening in a St. Petersburg, Fla. hospital, to which he was removed a
few hours earlier when he suffered a heart attack while in the city on
business.  Mr. Weil was born in Hollidaysburg, a son of Julius and Lena
Weil, and became a resident of Altoona as a young man.  For about thirty
years he was engaged in the wholesale cigar business in the city, moving to
Philadelphia some years ago and continuing his cigar business there until
about five years ago, when he retired.  Surviving are two sisters and one
brother, Miss Bertha, Miss Caroline and William Weil, all of the city.

MRS. CARRIE EMMA WILSON

Widow of W. A. Wilson, died at 1.50 oclock this morning at the home of her
son, H. C. Wilson, 100 Seventh avenue, Juniata.  Death resulted from
complications.  Deceased was born at Port Royal, Pa., on May 17, 1864, a
daughter of Hugh and Jane McMeen, both deceased.  She had resided in Juniata
for many years but following her husbands retirement from the Pennsylvania
railroad the couple took up their residence in Mifflintown.  She was
visiting at her sons home in Juniata when fatally stricken.  her husband
died on Dec. 13, 1925 in Mifflintown.  Surviving are one daughter and three
sons as follows:  Mrs. Mahlin C. Gliss  of Mifflintown, H. C. Wilson, Ralph
Wilson and Laird Wilson, all of Juniata.  She also leaves eight
grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Martha Ritzman and Mrs. Anna Guss of
North Dakota and Mrs. Margretta Stimmel of Port Royal, Pa.; one half-sister,
Mrs. Rose Jackson, and a half-brother, Harry McMeen, both of Akron, O. 
Deceased was a member of the Mifflintown Lutheran  church, Mrs. Ketters
Bible class and the Mifflintown Eastern Star.  Brief funeral services will
be conducted by the sons home, 100 Seventh avenue, Juniata, at 8 oclock
Saturday evening, in charge of Rev. Paul. L. Foulk.  The body will conveyed
to the daughters home in Mifflintown Sunday morning.  Further services will
be conducted at 2.30 Monday afternoon at the daughters home.  Interment
will be made in Church Hill cemetery, Port Royal.  The body may be viewed
today and tomorrow at the sons home in Juniata.

Widow of Henry I. Oswalt and a former resident of Altoona, died suddenly at
the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. O. Molloy of Strafford, at 9 oclock
yesterday morning.  She was 74 years old.  Surviving are two sons and one
daughter, Henry Oswalt of Louisiana, Walter L. Oswalt of the city and Mrs.
Molloy of Strafford.  The body will arrive in Altoona at 2.45 oclock
tomorrow afternoon and may be viewed at the Stevens mortuary where funeral
services will be held in the memorial chapel at 2 oclock Monday afternoon.

FREDERICK J. SCHRADER

Of 1807 Fifth street, died at the Altoona hospital at 12.30 oclock noon
yesterday of a complication of diseases after an extended illness.  He was
born at Hollidaysburg on Jan 5, 1877, a son of Frederick J. and Mary
Schrader, and was employed in the Fourth Street shops of the Altoona works. 
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Helen (Socie) Schrader, three sons and one
daughter, Frank H. Schrader of Hollidaysburg, Joseph G. and Mrs. Anna
Houseman of the city, and Frederick R. at home; five grandchildren, three
brothers and two sisters, Charles Schrader of Hollidaysburg, Mrs. Thrace
Kunkle of Philipsburg, Mrs. Barbara Hartman, Frank J. and John J. Schrader
of the city.  Mr.  Schrader was a member of St. Theresa Catholic church
where funeral services will be held Thursday morning with requiem mass at 9
oclock.  Interment will be made in Calvary cemetery.

Melvin Ray Keith, son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Keith, died at the parental home

the parents and these brothers and sisters: June, Marjorie, Laverne, Boyd,
Jack and Robert, all at home.  Funeral services will be conducted in the

MRS. REBECCA (ALLEN) BLACK

Widow of John H. Black and a lifelong resident of Pleasantville and
Schellsburg, Bedford county, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. H. C.
Mowry, at New Buena Vista on Saturday morning at 4 oclock, death following
a brief illness attributed to pneumonia.  She was born in West St. Clair
township on Feb. 24, 1815, a daughter of Elial and Barbara (Walker) Allen,
and was united in marriage with Mr. Black on February, 1878.  He died some
years ago.  Surviving are these children: Adam Black of Chicago, Mrs. Mowry,
at whose home she died, and Mrs. Arthur Colvin of Schellsburg, four
grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, and one sister Mrs. (?) Cox of
Johnstown.  She was a member of the Lutheran church at Schellsburg and was
devoted to the church and her home and in recent years had read the New
Testament through the eighth time.  Funeral services were conducted this
afternoon at 2.30 oclock and interment was made in the Schellsburg
cemetery.

MRS. MYRTLE ELSIE EVANS

Wife of Postmaster Benjamin F. Evans of Hopewell, Bedford county, died at
her home there last night at 11.30 oclock, death being attributed to a
complication of ailments.  She was born in Providence township, Bedford
county on Dec. 22, 1875, a daughter of Daniel and Elizabeth Ritchey
Manspeaker, both now deceased, and was united in marriage with Mr. Evans on
March 25, 1901, who survives, with the following children:  Bruce Evans of
Everett, Grace and Margaret Evans, and Walter Evans, at home.  These sisters
and brother survive:  Mrs. Martha Lister and Mrs. Catherine Salkeld of
Altoona, Mrs. Mary Kauffman of Whittaker, Pa., and Charles Manspeaker of
Goldsboro, Md., and two grandchildren.  She was a member of the Lutheran
church.  Funeral services will be conducted in the Methodist church in
Hopewell Monday afternoon at 3 oclock and interment will be made in the
Hopewell cemetery.

CARROLLTOWN,  Feb. 9 - Sister M. Philomena, order of St. Benedict, died at
Pittsburgh and her funeral was conducted from her convent chapel on Thursday
morning, with interment in the sisters burial plot, Pittsburgh.  The
deceased was the daughter of the late Jacob and Helena Yahner of near St.
Lawrence.  Sister Philomenas name in the world was Miss Anna Yahner.  She
spent a number of years as a religious.  Many relatives survive in north
Cambria county.

JOHN STEWART HYLE

Brother of D. S. Hyle of Williamsburg, R. D. No. 1, died suddenly at his
home in Mars, Pa., Saturday evening, Aug. 18, death being attributed to a
heart attack.  He was born at the Hyle farm in Canoe valley on Sept. 13,
1845.  Mr. Hyle was a son of George and Emma Stewart Hyle, both deceased. 
He was twice married, his first wife being Mrs. Mary Brown of Stately, Pa.,
who preceded him to the grave twenty years ago.  He then married Mrs. Minnie
Nichols of Mars, who survives, with his brother, D. S. Hyle, and two nephews
and one niece, A. F. Hyle and Mrs. W. M. Royer of Hollidaysburg, R. D. No.
2, and Fluke Slagle of Rochester, PA. He was a member of the Presbyterian
church at Mars.  Private funeral services were held at the home on Tuesday
afternoon, Aug. 21 at 2.30 oclock.  Interment was made in the cemetery at
Mars.  Local relatives attended the services as also did Samuel Hyle of
Duncansville.

Wife of George C. Wolf of 512 Harrison avenue, died at her home at 8.30

George C., jr., and Lenora Gertrude, both at home: six sisters and two

of the city, Mrs. Richard Wallace of Pittsburgh, Mrs. Della Woodring of New
Jersey, Mrs. Jewell Eisenbrand of Philadelphia, George and Charles Hawn,
both of the city.  Mrs. Wolf was a member of the Grace United Brethren
Sunday school.  Funeral services will be held at 2.30 oclock Friday
afternoon at the home.  Interment will be made in Rose Hill cemetery.

Widow of S. David White, died this morning at 9.30 oclock at her home at
507 1/2 Mulberry street, Hollidaysburg, death following an illness of
several weeks.  She was born at Beaver Dams, Blair county, on Jan. 28, 1869,
the daughter of Daniel and Ellen (Taylor) Noel, and was united in marriage
with Mr. White on March 23, 1898, who died on Nov. 3, 1917.  She was a
member of the First Baptist H. Nelson Bible class and the Rebekahs lodge in
Hollidaysburg.  Surviving are two sons, Warren L. White of Philadelphia, and
Howard C. White at home.  Two sisters and two brothers also survive,  Mrs.
Henry Maddock and Mrs. Ella Blackstone, both of Altoona, John Noel of Tyrone
and David Noel of Gallitzin.  Funeral services will be conducted at the home
Friday afternoon at 2.30 oclock in charge of the pastor Rev. J. S. Bromer,
D. D.  Interment will be made in the Presbyterian cemetery in Hollidaysburg.

MRS. CLARISSA REESE DIES

BELLEFONTE, Dec. 6 - Mrs. Clarissa Reese, widow of A. W. Reese, died at her
home in Port Matilda Tuesday morning at 8.15 oclock of infirmities incident
to advanced age.  She was a daughter of George and Hester Hoover and was
born in Union township, Centre county, eighty-two years ago.  Her husband
preceded her to the grave several years ago.  Surviving are the following
children:  Mrs. John McNamara of Philadelphia, Mrs. Grace R. Williams, Mrs.
W. W. Shultz and C. H. Reese of Port Matilda, Mrs. George C. Woodring and
Paul Reese of Tyrone and fifteen grandchildren and four
great-grandchildren.  Mrs. Reese received her early education at Mrs.
Cleavers academy at Unionville and was a member of the Presbyterian church
at Port Matilda for sixty years.  Funeral services will be conducted at her
home Thursday afternoon at 3 oclock in charge of the Rev. H. E. Oakwood of
Milesburg.  Interment will be made in the Presbyterian cemetery at Port
Matilda.

Died at her home, 406 Twenty-first avenue, at 3 oclock this morning after
one years illness of complications.  Deceased was a daughter of Henry and
Anna Plummer and was born on Feb. 29, 1864, at Tyrone Forge.  Her husband,
M. L. Smith, died on April 29, 1929.  Surviving are the following children: 
Elmer G, Martin R., Benjamin S., Lee P., and Edgar K. Smith, all of
Altoona.  She also leaves eight grandchildren, three sisters, Mrs. Jennie
Brookhauser of Boston, Pa., Mrs. Daisy Rayman of McKeesport and Mrs. Emma
Strong of Coulter, Pa., and one brother, Mortimer Plummer of McKeesport. 
She was a member of the Fairview Methodist church, the P. O. of A. lodge,
No. 5, and the Rebekahs.  Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday
afternoon at 2.30 oclock at the Fairview Methodist church.  In charge of
Rev. J. F. Stamm.  Interment will be made in Rose Hill cemetery.

three daughters, Frances, a student at Juniata college, and Lucille and
Rebecca Jan, at home.  The body was taken to his former home at York where
funeral services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon.  Interment will be
made at York.

STANTON E. BAREFOOT

A farmer residing one-half mile north of New Paris, Bedford county, died on
Saturday morning, at 2.30 oclock.  He had been in failing health for
several years and a stroke of paralysis was the immediate cause of his
death.  He was a son of William and Jenny Barclay Barefoot, who was born on
Sept. 23, 1888, in Johnstown.  His parents preceded him in death.  He was
married to Miss Rhoda Manges, who survives him, together with these
children:  Robert, Max, Jay and Ray Barefoot at home, and by two brothers,
Barclay and Russell Barefoot, both of Windber.  He was a member of the
Independent Order of Odd Fellows.  The funeral was held Monday afternoon at
2 oclock with Revs. A. F. Richards and M. L. Kauffman officiating. 
Interment followed in the cemetery at Alum Bank.

JOHN E. BRUMBAUGH

A resident of Woodbury township, died Sunday morning at 7 oclock following
an illness of two weeks attributed to a complication of ailments.  He was
born at Clappertown on March 25, 1870, a son of Henry and Lydia Brumbaugh
and was united in marriage on Feb. 16, 1918, with Clara Burket, at
Hollidaysburg, the ceremony being performed by Rev. C. S. Nonemaker. 
Surviving are the widow, one brother and two sisters, Jacob Brumbaugh of
Brooklyn, N. Y., Mrs. Hatie Anderson, residing in Virginia, and Mrs. Mamie
Replogle of Martinsburg.  He was a member of the Church of the Brethren in
Williamsburg.  The body was taken to the Homer Bechtel funeral home in
Williamsburg where it may be viewed until the time of the funeral, which
will be conducted there Tuesday afternoon at 2 oclock in charge of his
pastor, Rev. F. J. Beyer.  Interment will be made in the Beavertown
cemetery.

daughters and three sons as follows:  Mrs. Clarence Ritche of Juniata, Mrs.
Ben Hall of Yellow Creek, Chalmer and Clyde of New Enterprise, Mrs. Edgar
Heeter of Hollidaysburg, Blair Clapper of Yellow Creek, Mrs. Charles Fetters
of Riddlesburg and Miss Harriet Clapper of Altoona.  He also leaves one
brother and a sister, Thomas Clapper and Mrs. Harrison Zimmerman of Yellow
Creek.  Twenty-four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also
survive.  He was a member of the Church of the Brethren.  Funeral services
will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2.30 oclock, in the Yellow Creek
Church of the Brethren.  Interment will be made in the Steele cemetery

MRS. MARY METCALF

An aged resident of Fishertown, Bedford county, died Thursday morning at 3
oclock at the home of her nephew, Roy Griffith at Petersburg.  Mrs. Metcalf
had spent the past several months at the Griffith home.  Mrs. Metcalf was
born on Jan. 10, 1842, a daughter of John and Anna Otto Griffith, and was
united in marriage with Thomas Metcalf, who died in 1886.  Surviving are two
sisters and one brother, Amanda of Gronsville, O., Mrs. Sarah Keagy of
Woodbury and David Griffith of Wolfsburg.  One brother and one sister are
deceased.  She was a member of the Reformed church at Fishertown since
1858.  Mrs. Metcalf had resided at Fishertown and vicinity most of her life
and had gone to the home of her nephew at Oserburg to spend the winter. 
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday afternoon, the funeral cortege
leaving the Griffith home at 2 oclock and going to the Reformed church at
Fishertown where services will be conducted by Rev. Earl Dobbs.  Interment
will be made in the church cemetery.

MRS. ELIZABETH FOUST JOHNSTON

Widow of A. P. W. Johnston, died at 2.25 oclock yesterday afternoon at the
Altoona hospital of a complication of diseases.  Mrs. Johnston was born in
Hollidaysburg and was the daughter of Ross and Jane Foust.  She was a
graduate of the Shippensburg State Teachers college after which she spent
two years at the University of Pennsylvania.  Before her marriage she taught
in the Altoona High school.  She was a member of the First Baptist church. 
She is survived by two brothers and two sisters:  James Foust of Altoona,
John Foust of Huntingdon, Mrs. Lillian Plummer of St. Petersburg, Fla., and
Miss Alice Foust of Harrisburg.  Both funeral services and interment will be
strictly private.  Friends are requested to omit flowers.

MRS. JESSAMINE FRANTS EVANS

Wife of Dr. Frank B. Evans, died at her home, 3000 Second avenue, at 4.30
oclock yesterday afternoon.  Mrs. Evans was born at Lemon Place, Lancaster
county, a daughter of Ezra W. and Clara (Smith) Frants.  Her early life was
spent in Harrisburg and Philadelphia and she was married to Dr. Frank Bruce
Evans on June 12, 1901, at Harrisburg.  She had been a resident of Altoona
since 1906.  She is survived by her husband and one daughter, Mrs. Helen G.
Roth, wife of Dr. Walter G. Roth of Altoona; one granddaughter, Barbara June
Roth; two sisters, Mrs. Mame Cooley of Pasadena, Calif., and Mrs. Owen E.
Burt of Hemet, Calif., and one brother, Joseph H. Frants of Harrisburg. 
Mrs. Evans was a member of the Broad Avenue Presbyterian church.  Funeral
services will be conducted at the home Monday afternoon at 2.30 oclock with
the Rev. A. F. Heltman in charge.  Burial will follow at the Alto-Reste. 
The body may be viewed at the home after 6 oclock this evening.

JAMES JOSEPH PEEL

Of 4005 Fifth avenue, South Altoona, died at his home at 7.30 oclock last
evening of a heart condition with which he had been suffering for some
time.  He was born at Medina, N. Y., on July 7, 1875.  Surviving are his
wife, Mrs. Lulu Peel, one daughter and one son, Miss Ida and James Peel, at
home, and four sisters, Mrs. Charles Tiffany of Seneca Falls, N. Y., Mrs.
Daniel Lahey of Hellersville, N. Y., Mrs. John McClellan of Medina, N. Y.,
and Mrs. Joseph Bucrest of Vancouver, B. C.  The funeral will be held
Thursday morning with requiem mass at 10 oclock in St. Rose of Lima
Catholic church.  Interment will be made in Calvary cemetery.  Friends are
requested to omit flowers.

RETIRED FARMER DIES

HUNTINGDON, Jan. 12. - Thomas Homer Crownover, aged 79, died at his home on
Standing Stone avenue Wednesday after a lingering illness from a
complication of diseases due to advanced age.  He was a farmer by occupation
until 1923 when he retired and moved to Huntingdon.  He was a member of the
Methodist church.  Besides his wife he is survived by two daughters, Miss
Eloise Crownover, at home, and Mrs. James Bigelow of Lewistown.  He was the
last member of his family.  Funeral services will be conducted from Brown
funeral home tomorrow afternoon at 2.30 oclock by Rev. E. R. Davidson of
the First Methodist church.  Burial will be made in the Riverview cemetery.

MRS. MARY ANN (DICK) GRAY

Died at her home in West Carroll township, Cambria county, at 5.30 oclock
Monday evening following a long illness of complications.  She was 85 years
of age and is survived by the following:  Ambrose Gary, her husband;  Mrs.
William Reed and Mrs. Silas Myers of Spangler, Mrs. Phil Seymore of
Carrolltown, Mrs. Walter Weakland and Mrs. James Swope of Bakerton, Miss
Mary Gray, at home, daughters,  and Walter and Russell Gray, sons, at home. 
Mr. and Mrs. Ambrose Gray were married at St. Benedicts Catholic church,
Carrolltown, fifty-one years ago.  Funeral services will be conducted from
St. Benedicts Catholic church at 9 oclock Friday morning with a requiem
high mass before interment in the church cemetery.  Members of the Rosary
society, of which the deceased was a member, will attend the obsequies.

DEATH OF CHILDREN

Ralph Dale Apple, infant son of Joseph and Lenora (Spacht) Apple of 622
Tenth avenue, Juniata, died at the parental home at 7 oclock yesterday
morning.  The child was born on Aug. 12, 1934.  Surviving are the parents,
one brother and one sister, Eugene Floyd and Donna.  He was a member of the
Juniata United Brethren church cradle roll.  Funeral services will be held
at the home at 10.30 oclock tomorrow morning.  Interment will be made in
Grandview cemetery.

Donald Eugene Mock, son of John R. and Elsie (Beach) Mock of Curryville,
died at the parental home at 10 oclock Saturday morning of a complication
of ailments.  he was born on Feb. 9, 1928, and attended the Woodbury
Consolidated school and the Curryville Church of the Brethren Sunday
school.  Surviving are the parents, five sisters and two brothers, Helen, a
teacher of music in the Antis schools; Mary, Gladys, John Elwood, Richard,
Marjorie and Peggy Ann.  Funeral services were held in the Curryville United
Brethren church this afternoon.  Interment was made in Fairview cemetery,
Martinsburg.

CLARK W. ACKERMAN

Brother of A. C. (Bert) and P. W. Ackerman of the city, died early Saturday
morning at Tuckertown, N. J., as the result of an automobile accident Friday
evening.  He conducted
a gasoline station between Tuckertown and New Gretna, N. J.  Details of the
accident have not been received by the local brothers.  Mr. Ackerman was
born in Westmoreland county.  Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Hannah Ackerman,
four brothers and three sisters, George M. Ackerman of Los Angeles, Calif.,
John L. Ackerman, burgess of Latrobe, Howard Ackerman of Greensburg, P. W.
and A. C. Ackerman of the city, Mrs. Ida Huber of Pittsburgh, Mrs. Nora
Snyder of Wilkinsburg and Mrs. Omar Wellshons of Latrobe.  Funeral services
will be held at Tuckertown at 2 oclock tomorrow afternoon, the local
brothers leaving Altoona this afternoon for Tuckertown.  Interment will be
made in Tuckertown.

J. J. KELLY

Aged 68, of 1300 Seventh avenue, died at his home at 10.45 oclock yesterday
morning as the result of a stroke suffered last Thursday morning.  He was
born on Oct. 1, 1866, at Bellefonte, a son of James and Bridget (Bailey)
Kelly and was united in marriage with Miss Ella Quinlan, residing in Altoona
for a number of years.  Surviving are one daughter, Miss Adelaid, at home,
three sisters and one brother, Mrs. Sally McCoy of Bellefonte, Mrs. Ruth
Strawmyer, Mrs. Margaret Sprankle and Michael Kelly of the city.  Mr. Kelly
was employed as a machinist helper in the Altoona works.  The body may be
viewed at the Hickey funeral home.  The funeral will be held in Mt. Carmel
Catholic church with requiem mass at 9 oclock Wednesday morning.  Interment
will be made in Calvary cemetery.

Howard Eugene McCaulley, infant son of B. F. and Margaret (Markel) McCaulley
of Bellwood, died at the parental home at 6.30 oclock  Thursday evening. 
The child was but 1 day old.  Surviving are the parents and the following
brothers and sisters:  Paul of Altoona, Mrs. Catherine Wilt of Greenwood,
Cecil of Honolulu, Fred, Edwin, Vincent, Robert, Helen, Betty, Evelyn and
Irene, all at home.  The funeral was held yesterday afternoon. Interment was
made in Logan Valley cemetery.

MRS. CATHERINE BUOYMASTER

Wife of G. T. Buoymaster, died at her home, 3301 Broad avenue, at 12.30
oclock yesterday noon.  Death was due to an attack of pneumonia with which
she was stricken three days ago.  She was born in Frankstown, the daughter
of John and Ellen McNamara, and was 46 years old on July 5, last.  The
husband, mother and two brothers and two sisters survive as follows:  John
A. and Thomas McNamara, Mrs. Joseph a Kohler and Mrs. David Rabold, all of
this city.  She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes church.

KILLED FOR INSURANCE

CHICAGO, Dec. 26. - Police announced today that George Ericksen, restaurant
operator, was killed in ambush for his $2,500 life insurance.  They claimed
to have a confession from James Senese, aged 19, who is alleged to have
killed Ericksen Saturday.  Ericksen, police said, named a third person as
instigator.

JERSEY SHORE, Dec. 26. - Mrs. W. J. Sheedle, aged 64, Jersey Shore, was
crushed to death when the automobile driven by her husband went over an
embankment near here.

CRESSON MANS FATHER DIES IN NATIVE LAND

CRESSON, Jan 19. - Word was received in Cresson yesterday by Guiseppi
Vassalotti of  509 Second street, well known local cobbler, of the sudden
death of his father, Luigi Vassalotti, aged 73, which occurred in Ricca,
Italy, on Jan. 11.  Bronchitis was given as the cause of the death.
In addition to his son at this place, other survivors are Patsy Vassalotti,
formerly associated with his brother in the shoemaking business at Cresson,
now located in Akron, O., and Carlo Vassalotti of Ricca, Italy and one
brother, Antonio Vassalotti of the old country, and eleven grandchildren.
He was born in Ricca, Italy on Dec. 3, 1861, a son of Donato and Lucia
(Kreboni) Vassalotti and pursued farming his entire life.  His wife preceded
him to the grave several years ago.  The obsequies were conducted in Ricca
last Tuesday.

MRS. ALICE DURBAN

One of the oldest residents of Cambria county, died at her home in
Clearfield township on Friday.  She was 90 years of age.  The deceased was
born in Chest Springs.  Surviving are these children;  Medar of St.
Augustine, Philip of Colorado, Louis of Passaic, N. J., Matthew of West
Virginia, Mrs. Joseph Long of Chest township, Mrs. Rachel Mannion of Patton,
Mrs. Sarah Davis and Mrs. Martin Storm of Clearfield township.  Other
survivors are thirty-six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.  The
funeral was held at 9 oclock Monday morning at St. Augustine Catholic
church, St. Augustine, with interment in the adjoining burial ground.

Robert of Indiana, Pa., Mrs. G. L. Ballentine of Charleston, W. Va., Mrs. C.
F. Overcash of Dormont, Pa., and Lawrence of Cleveland, O.  Two sisters and
a brother also survive, Mrs. R. L. Farnesworth of Detroit, Miss Sarah E.
Patrick of Portland, Ore., and Andrew R. Patrick of Altoona.  The funeral
will be held in the Presbyterian church in Glen Campbell Wednesday afternoon
at 2 oclock followed by interment in Burnside cemetery.
