Head (ROANOKE) Michael Leon Head, 43, and Vickie Freeman Head, 45, of Roanoke, former residents of Coweta County, Ga., died at their home in the Rock Stand community. Joint funeral services for Mr. and Mrs. Head were at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, 2002, in the chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville, Ga. The Rev. David Arrington officiated. Interment was in the Grantville Cemetery. Mr. Head was born Jan. 10, 1959, in Hampton Va. A 1976 graduate of Newnan (Ga.) High School, he was a veteran of service in the U. S. Air Force and was a member of the Baptist faith. He had made his home in Roanoke for the past ten years and was employed as maintenance supervisor for Plantation Patterns in Wadley. Mrs. Head was born Oct. 1, 1956, in Troup County, Ga., daughter of the late John Thomas Freeman and the late Louise Hogan Freeman. A former resident of Grantville, she had lived in Roanoke for the past ten years, was a member of First Baptist Church of Grantville, and was employed by Plantation Patterns. Mr. and Mrs. Head enjoyed raising and caring for horses that they owned. Mr. Head is survived by two daughters, Melissa Dawn McKenzie and Amanda Nicole Stitcher, both of Hogansville; two sons, Michael Travis Head of Roanoke and Randy Wayne Head of Georgetown, S. C.; his mother and stepfather, Christine and George Nichols of Five Points; one brother, Jimmy Head of Newnan; three sisters, Vicki Oliver and Teresa Luckie of Newnan and Tracey Denham of Hogansville; and two grandchildren. His father, Henry Leon Head, and a brother, John David Head, preceded Mr. Head in death. In addition to Mr. Head's children, two brothers, Norman and Mack Freeman of Greenville, and a number of nieces and nephews survive Mrs. Head. Arrangements were by Claude A. Burial was in Cleburne County Memorial Gardens. Mr. Ward Died Tuesday, Aug. 27. 'Nancy' Hubbard (VALLEY) Nannie R. "Nancy" Hubbard, 66, of Valley died Friday, Aug. 30, 2002, at her residence. Born March 24, 1936, in Randolph County, Mrs. Hubbard had worked as a security guard. She had also worked for Russell Mills and Avondale Mill in Alexander City. Jesse Alton Adamson of LaGrange, Ga., died Saturday, Aug. 31, 2002, at U.A.B. Hospital in Birmingham from complications of stomach cancer. Affectionately known as Big Al, "The Great One," or simply as Al, he was born on June 28, 1931, in Heard County, Ga. He grew up and was educated in west Georgia and served with the Security Agency of the U.S. Armed Forces during the Korean War as an intelligence officer. He had a true love for trains and was employed with Atlanta Westpoint Railroad, Georgia Railroad and Western Railroad of Alabama for 16 years. He retired from Georgia Power Company's Industrial Development Department. Since retirement, Al was a visible personality in LaGrange and North Georgia area with various business ventures and real estate developments. Survivors include his wife, Mary Carol Adamson; a daughter, Lyric Brogden of Birmingham; and a son, Kevin Adamson of Atlanta. A memorial service was at 2 p.m. EDT Monday, Sept. 2, at Rock Mills United Methodist Church. Virginia Hood, 75, of LaGrange, died Friday, Aug. 30, 2002, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Atlanta. Mrs. Hood, born Feb. 5, 1927, in Wadley, Ala., was the daughter of Gussie Moore Heflin and the late Stell Heflin. Mrs. Hood graduated from LaGrange High School, Perry Business School and Troup County Manpower Development Center. She retired from Clark Holder Clinic after 30 years of service and was a member of Teaver Road Baptist Church. Survivors include two sons, Ben Hood of the Glenn community and Randy Hood of LaGrange; her mother Gussie M. Heflin of LaGrange; three sisters, Elizabeth Barnes of Diamond Head, Miss., Janice Johnston of LaGrange and Rita Lyons of Snellville; two brothers, Thomas Vanell Heflin and James G. Hospital in Birmingham. Mrs. Turner, born Jan. 2, 1939, in Decatur, Ala., was the daughter of William L. and Lula Mae Evans Gore. Mrs. Turner worked as a food service manager for the Troup County Schools in West Point and Georgia Sheriffs Youth Home Pineland Campus. She was a member of Harrisonville Baptist Church. Mrs. Turner is survived by her mother, Lula Mae Ruckert of Roanoke; a son, Ronnie Turner of LaGrange; four daughters, Lisa Key, Lou Ann Norris and Deborah Bray, all of LaGrange, and Angie Boyd of Woodstock, Ga.; a brother, Virgil Gore of Roanoke; three sisters, Sue Hudson of Standing Rock, Carlene Kline of Roanoke, Va., and Janette Smith of Five Points; a sister-in-law; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a special extended family; special employee friends; and many loved nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins and friends. Mr. Ramage was born in Chambers County on June 12, 1928. He was retired from Auburn University as assistant superintendent of facilities. Walter Lee Chase, 91, of McDonough, Ga., died Monday, Sept. 9, 2002, at Beverly Care and Rehabilitation in Jonesboro, Ga. Mr. Chase, born June 26, 1911, in Randolph County, Ala., was the son of the late Fletcher G. Chase and Janie Baker Chase. He was manager of various movie theaters and served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He spent most of his life in LaGrange. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Sara Nunn Chase, on Aug 24, 2002. She will be memorialized with him on the day of service. Survivors include a sister, Martha L. Ingram of Chamblee, Ga.; three brothers, Grover P. Chase of Cobb County, Ga., Laverial Chase of McDonough and Fletcher D. Chase of Chamblee; and several nieces and nephews. She was a homemaker, a member of the Randolph County Home Demonstration Club, a member of the First Baptist Church, where she was a nursery worker, and a member of Women's Missionary Union. Tommy Burke officiating. Burial followed at Green's Chapel cemetery. The Rev. Wood died Tuesday, Sept. 10, at East Alabama Medical Center. A Randolph County native, the Rev. Wood was born Sept. 26, 1916, son of John Wesley and Lola Dollar Wood. He was a member of Green's Chapel Church, a World War II Army veteran and a retired U.M.C. preacher, with more than 30 years of serving Randolph, Clay and Talladega county circuits. He was also a member of the Woodman of the World. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mae Parmer Wood. Mrs. Edmondson, born March 25, 1954, in Heard County, Ga., was the daughter of the late B. J. and Betty Zachary Brewer. She had lived in Heard County all her life and was a seamstress. She was an active member of State Line Baptist Church in Glenn, Ga. Newell, 86, of Jackson, formerly of LaGrange, Ga., died Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2002, in Jackson. Mr. Newell, born May 30, 1916, in Randolph County, Ala., was the son of the late James Lanier and Bertie Harmon Newell Hampton. He was an Army veteran of World War II having served as a military police sergeant in England. He retired from Milliken & Company after 40 years of service. Following his retirement, he was employed in the security business. He was a member and former deacon of Southwest LaGrange Baptist Church and a member of Elm City Lodge #544 Free and Accepted Masons. Mrs. Daniel was a lifelong resident of this area, a member of Sardis Baptist Church and was retired from Bremen-Bowdon Investment Co. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Daniel in 1983, a son and daughter-in-law Raymon and Patricia Daniel, a daughter Kathy Lipham and infant daughter Nell. He was a 1949 graduate of Rockford High School and a former business partner of L.M. Askew and Austin Holley of Alexander City. He is [was] a 1969 graduate of Alexander City State Junior College, now Central Alabama Community College, and a 1971 recipient of the bachelor of arts degree from Auburn University and a master of divinity degree from Emory University, Candler School of Theology, in 1975. He was an ordained elder in the North Alabama Conference of the United Methodist Church. During his 27 year career he served the following United Methodist churches: Bradford in Goodwater, Lovejoy in Newnan, Ga., Wadley, Almond and Ebenezer in Wadley, Center Springs and Antioch in Sommerville, First in Moulton, Trinity in Alexander City, Zion and Oakman in Jasper and Long Memorial and Williams Chapel in Cordova. Her served on several district boards and agencies and mentored pastors in the United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Evie Gandy, and one brother, Paul Gandy. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Irene Tate Gandy; five children, Bill Gandy of Talladega, Austin Gandy of Alexander City, Judy Glass of Hueytown, Jimmy Gandy of Roswell, Ga., and Joan White of Jasper; 11 grandchildren; one brother, Frank Gandy of Vidor, Texas; two sisters, Janie Ann Carder of Loganville, Ga., and Shelvie Jean Beaton of Hoover and a host of nieces and nephews. Born May 29, 1946, in Asheville, N.C., Dr. Wilson received his bachelor's degree from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., and served for six-and one-half years as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy as an airplane pilot. Dr. Wilson returned to college and received his master's degree at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Forth Worth, Texas, and his doctor of ministry at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky. He attended Handley High, Gulfport Military Academy in Gulfport, Miss., and Georgia Military in College Park, Ga. He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the U.S. Army and receiving a commendation medal for meritorious achievement. Mr. Baskin was employed for 32 years with the Vendo Company of Fresno, Calif., retiring as district regional manager of the Southwest Division. He was a member of Broadmoor Baptist Church. Roger Hammett officiating. Mr. Holloway died Friday, Sept. 20, at his residence. Mr. Holloway was born June 20, 1975, in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., son of Elvin Terry and Shirley Nelson Holloway. He had been a cook at Logan's Roadhouse in Oxford and was an avid golfer. Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Shirley and Johnny Payne of Wedowee; father and stepmother, Elvin Terry and Linda Holloway of Turnerville, Ga.; his maternal grandmother, LaMerle Ayres of Wedowee; his paternal grandmother, Marcelle Holloway of LaGrange; one sister, Beverly Thorne of Hilton Head, S.C.; one stepbrother, Jonathan Craig Payne of Anniston; two nieces, three aunts and one uncle. Pallbearers will be Jerome Holloway, D. J. Knight, Tim Milam, Ricky Daniel, Lamar Payne, Danny Bailey and Freddy Payne. Arrangements are by Benefield Funeral Home, Wedowee. __________ Martha Robertson Howse (ROANOKE) Services for Martha Robertson Howse, 91, of Roanoke will be Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002, at 2 p.m. at Mt. Zion Christian Church, with the Rev. Kenneth Johnson and the Rev. Harold Bonner officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Howse died Monday, Sept. 23, at Traylor Nursing Home. A Cleburne County native, Mrs. Howse was born Jan. 26, 1911, daughter of George Washington and Ida Tululu Agnes Peek Robertson. She had been a Randolph County resident for the past 60 years. She was a member of Mt. Zion Christian Church and had worked as a seamstress with Palm Beach Manufacturing. Mrs. Howse was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Bankston Howse. Survivors include two daughters, Jane Holloway and Betty Treadwell of Roanoke; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Howse will lie in state for one hour prior to services. Pallbearers will be Chuck Holloway, Bobby Treadwell, Brad Treadwell, Blake Treadwell, Ben Treadwell, Denny Treadwell and Chad Treadwell. Arrangements are by Quattlebaum Funeral Home, Roanoke. __________ Robert Elijah Chastain (PIEDMONT) Graveside services for Robert Elijah Chastain, 84, of Piedmont, formerly of Anniston, were Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2002, at 11 a.m. at Four Mile Methodist Cemetery with Rev. Tommy Ledbetter officiating. Mr. Chastain died Sunday at Regional Medical Center. Survivors include his wife, Mary Chastain of Piedmont; two stepdaughters, Brenda Christian and Kathy Word of Piedmont; a stepson, Jim Adderhold of Wedowee; his caregivers, Glenda Moody and Betty England; and several grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Mr. Chastain was a native and lifelong resident of Calhoun County. He was retired from Anniston Army Depot and was a member of the Jacksonville Church of Christ.
