OBITUARIES:

William W. Brown

 (LAFAYETTE, Ga.) William W. Brown, 92, of LaFayette, Ga., formerly of
Randolph County, Ala., died Wednesday, March 26, 1997, in LaFayette, Ga.
 Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Friday, March 28, in Liberty East Baptist
Church with the Revs. Dale Parker and David Daniel officiating. Burial was in
the adjoining cemetery.
 Mr. Brown is survived by four sons, J. R. Brown of LaFayette, Ga., Aubrey
Brown of Newnan, Ga., Felton Brown of Ringgold, Ga., and Billy Brown of
Woodland; one sister, Irma Rue White of Rock Mills; nine grandchildren and 
11 great-grandchildren.
 Mr. Brown was born in Randolph County on Nov. 17, 1904, son of R. J. Brown
and Sallie Bowen Brown. He was a retired farmer and was a member of Liberty
East Baptist Church.
 Benefield Funeral Home, Wedowee, was in charge of arrangements.

Charles R. Coleman

 (MONTGOMERY) Charles R. Coleman, 77, of Montgomery, died Friday, March 28,
1997, in a local hospital. Graveside services were Sunday, March 30, at 4:30
p.m. at Big Springs Baptist Church Cemetery near Roanoke, with the Rev. Tommy
Joe Swearinger officiating.
 Survivors include four daughters, Joanna Shum, Rhonda Thomason, Dottie Smith
and Sharon Connell of Montgomery; a brother, Lee Coleman of Lakeland, Fla.; 
15 grandchildren and one great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his wife 
of 53 years, Tommie Moses Coleman.
 Mr. Coleman served in the U. S. Army during world War II and received the
Silver Star, Bronze Star and the Purple Heart, as well as numerous citations 
for gallantry while serving in North Africa and Italy.
 Memorial contributions may be made to Big Springs Baptist Church.
 White Chapel of Montgomery was in charge of arrangements.

Connie Ruth Nichols

 (LAGRANGE, Ga.) Funeral services for Connie Ruth Nichols, 71, of LaGrange, Ga., 
formerly of Roanoke, were Tuesday, April 1, 1997, at 3 p.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral 
Chapel, with the Rev. George Crenshaw officiating. Burial was at Mt. Zion 
Christian Church Cemetery.
 Mrs. Nichols died Sunday, March 30, at West Georgia Medical Center at
LaGrange.
 A Tallassee native, she was born Dec. 7, 1925, daughter of Jesse Lee Nichols
and Della Mae Morton Adcock Nichols. She was retired from Handley Mills with 
42 years of service.
 Survivors include one daughter, Sondra Wilson of Rock Mills; and three
grandchildren, Scotty Jonathan and Connie Wilson, all of Rock Mills.
 Quattlebaum Funeral Home of Roanoke was in charge of arrangements.

Nancy Bradley

 (LAGRANGE, Ga.) Nancy Bradley, 67, of LaGrange died Monday, March 31, 1997,
at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange after a short illness.
 Ms. Bradley was born in Randolph County, Ala., on April 5, 1929, daughter of
Thomas Ellis and Elizabeth Henderson Bradley. She was retired from Parker
Chevrolet Company in Pine Mountain, Ga., and also from The Army Store in
LaGrange. She had lived in LaGrange since 1947 and was a member of Southwest
LaGrange Baptist Church and Troup County Senior Citizens Center.
 Survivors include one sister, Janie Lou Bradley of LaGrange; one brother, 
H. B. Bradley of LaGrange; and several nieces and nephews.
 A graveside service in Shadowlawn Cemetery, LaGrange, will be at 4 p.m.
Wednesday, April 2, with the Rev. Bobby Robinson and the Rev. Max McCord
officiating.

Carolyn Mae Nappier

 (ROANOKE) Funeral services for Carolyn Mae Nappier, 65, of Roanoke were
Sunday, March 30, 1997, at 2 p.m. at White's Chapel Methodist Church, with the
Revs. Don Quick and Stoney Halsey officiating. Burial was in the church
cemetery.
 Mrs. Nappier died Friday, March 28, at Randolph County Hospital.
 A former resident of Atlanta, she was born May 22, 1931, daughter of Willie
B. and Flora Bell Adcock Weathers. She was the former owner of Swirl and Curt
in Roanoke and was a member of White's Chapel Methodist Church.
 Survivors include her husband, Roy W. Nappier of Roanoke; two daughters,
Clarissa White of Roanoke and Sabrina Schroeder of Boise, Idaho; two
grandchildren; one sister, Linda Brown of LaGrange, Ga.; and four brothers,
Oliver Weathers of Mableton, Ga., John D. Weathers of Woodland, J. Reese
Weathers of Forest Park, Ga., and Bonnie Weathers of Ellenwood, Ga.
 Quattlebaum Funeral Home of Roanoke was in charge of arrangements.

Ellie M. Dodson

 (HEFLIN) Ellie M. Dodson, 84, of 1056 Co. Rd. 233, Heflin, died Tuesday,
April 1, 1997, in Regional Medical Center, Anniston, after an extended illness.
 Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 3, in Morrison's Chapel
United Methodist Church with the Revs. Cloyse Johnson, C. W. Wood and Winnie
Murphree officiating. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery.
 Mrs. Dodson is survived by five daughters, Helen Burgess of Perry, Fla., Lucy
Anderson of Rome, Ga., Robbie Cotton of Oxford, Margie Craft of Birmingham and
Dinah Lee of Heflin; one son, A. C. Dodson of Anniston; two sisters, Mellie
Pitts of Delta and Lellie Bennett of Heflin, one brother, Travis Morrison of
Heflin; 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
 Pallbearers will be grandsons.
 Mrs. Dodson was born on January 9, 1913, daughter of Delmus Morrison and
Arkansas Berryhill Morrison. She was a homemaker and a member of Morrison's
Chapel United Methodist Church.
 Mrs. Dodson will lie in state at Benefield Funeral Home, Wedowee, and the
family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday April 2. She will
lie in state at the church for one hour prior to funeral services.
 The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Morrison's
Chapel United Methodist Church.

Vernon Holloway

 (ATLANTA) Funeral services for Vernon Holloway, 53, of Atlanta, Ga., who died
Saturday, March 29, 1997, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 2, from Union Hill
Baptist Church, Woodland. Burial will be in Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church
Cemetery, the Rev. Hollis Boykin officiating.
 Survivors include five sisters, Sylvia Bell of Bowdon, Ga., Linda Nelms of
Langdale, Beverly Fernandez of Roanoke, Ricey Veil Woodgett of Wedowee and
Jennifer Atkinson of LaGrange, Ga.; six brothers, Joe Lewis Holloway of Wichita,
Kan., Rev. Arthur Floyd Holloway of Birmingham, Wayne Holloway and Mark Holloway
of Woodland, Willie Richard Holloway of Hinesville, Ga., and Gilbert Holloway of
Bowdon; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. One brother, James Allen
Holloway, preceded him in death.
 The funeral home in charge is Silmon Mortuary in Roanoke.

Bunice Ayres Walls

 (NEWELL) Bunice Ayres Walls, 77, of Box 98, County Road 167, Newell, died
Thursday, April 3, 1997, in Union Regional Medical Center, Monroe, N.C.
 Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Monday, April 7, at Cool Springs United
Methodist Church, with the Revs. Cloyse Johnson and Larry Parker officiating. 
Burial was in the adjoining cemetery.
 Mrs. Walls is survived by one son, Harold Walls of Harrisburg, N.C., one
sister, Mrs. Louise Lovvorn of Newell; two grandchildren, Brian Davis Walls and
Amy Beth Walls.
 The family requests that donations be made to Cool Springs United Methodist
Church, in care of Sharon Heard, Old Highway 431, Rt. 1, Newell, AL 36270.

J. Marion Roberts

 (LAGRANGE, Ga.) J. Marion Roberts, 92, died Friday, April 4, 1997, 
at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange.
 Mr. Roberts was a graduate and member of the board of trustees of Mercer
University in Macon. He was a high school teacher until 1936 and retired as an
agent with Equitable Life Insurance Company.
 Mr. Roberts was a member and former active deacon of First Baptist Church of
LaGrange. His numerous civic activities included work with the Boy Scouts of
America, for which he received the Silver Beaver Award. He was a former
president of LaGrange Lions Club and served as Lions district governor. Mr.
Roberts was a former disaster chairman for the Troup County chapter of American
Red Cross.
 Mr. Roberts is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Vann and Jan Hall
Roberts of Dalton, Ga., formerly of Wadley; two granddaughters; one brother,
Charles Roberts of Los Gatos, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews. He was
preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Marion Arnall Roberts, and by a son, Arnall
Roberts.
 Funeral services were Monday, April 2, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of
LaGrange, with the Rev. Richard Shiver, the Rev. Weston Alford and the Rev.
Albert T. Turnell officiating. Burial was in Shadowlawn Cemetery.
 Hunter-Allen-Myhand Funeral Home of LaGrange was in charge of arrangements.

Joseph F. 'Joe' McManus

 (FAIRBURN, Ga.) Joseph F. "Joe" McManus, 79, of Fairburn, Ga., died 
March 24, 1997.
 Born in Wedowee, Ala., Mr. McManus was a member of Fairburn UnitedMethodist
Church for 50 years, where he taught in Sunday school for 15 years, served as a
lay delegate for 20 years and also served on the administrative board and on
church committees.
 A teacher at Campbell High School in Fairburn for 40 years, he was honored by
his students with two dedications of the school annual in his honor. He served
in the European Theater of World War II with the Big Red One Division for 2-1/2
years and retired from the U.S. Army Reserve in 1978 as a lieutenant colonel with
27 years of active and reserve duty. He was awarded a bronze and silver star.
 Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Mrs. Martha French McManus; a son,
Allan McManus of Fairburn; three sisters, Mrs. Mildred Traylor and Mrs. Sarah
McConnell of LaGrange, Ga., and Mrs. Tressie Carroll of Fayetteville, Ga.; a
brother, Garey McManus of Douglasville, Ga.; and nieces and nephews.
 Funeral services were Wednesday, March 26, at 11:30 a.m. at the chapel of
Parrott Funeral Home, Dr. Judson Hodges Jr. and the Rev. Bob Gillespie
officiating. Interment was at Holly Hill.
 In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make donations to Fairburn United
Methodist Church, Washington Street, Fairburn, GA 30213. Parrott Funeral Home,
Fairburn, was in charge of arrangements.

James Milford Hodges

 (GARDENDALE) Funeral services for James Milford Hodges, 73, of Gardendale
were Monday, April 7, 1997, at 1 p.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel in Roanoke,
with the Rev. Tex Ergle officiating. Burial was in Randolph Memory Gardens.
 Mr. Hodges died Friday, April 4, at Baptist Medical Center Montclair in
Birmingham.
 A Randolph County native, he was born Nov. 2, 1923, son of Minus Thadeaus and
Rena S. Spruell Hodges. He was retired from Rust Engineering.
 Survivors include his wife, Ruth Whaley Hodges of Gardendale; one son, James
Allen Hodges of Palm Harbor, Fla.; two step-daughters, Mary Ellen Butler of
Hazel Green and Lamanda Clark of Arab; his step-mother, Julia Storey of Roanoke;
two brothers, John Ray Hodges of Roanoke and Steven Thadeaus Hodges of Leeds;
ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Ethel Earlene Young

 (ROANOKE) Funeral services for Ethel Earlene Young, 68, of Roanoke were
Sunday, April 6, 1997, at 2 p.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel, with the Rev.
S. T. Janney officiating. Burial was at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery,
Wedowee.
 Mrs. Young died Thursday, April 3, at her home.
 A Randolph County native, she was born Dec. 14, 1928, daughter of George T.
and Ethel Mae Hall Johnson. She had retired from Handley Mills.
 Survivors include one son, Steve Young of Opelika, and one brother, Vennon
Johnson of Wedowee.

Edwin O. Carr

 (WOODLAND) Edwin 0. Carr, 53, of 1305 Co. Rd. 180, Woodland, died Saturday,
April 5, 1997.
 Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 12, 1997, in Benefield
Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Stanley Baker officiating. Burial was in Flat
Rock Cemetery.
 Mr. Carr is survived by his mother, Susie B. "Clem" Carr of Woodland; one
son, Edwin Carr of California; six sisters, Ellawees Roper and Dicie Mae Gosdin
of Woodland, Dothela Dutton of Jasper, Doris Andrews of Roanoke, Darlene
Templeton of Niceville, Fla., and Sarah Baker of Verona, Miss.; and one brother,
Russell Carr of Woodland.
 Pallbearers were Tony Richardson, Ray Nations, Keith Langley, Kenneth
Langley, Edward Mitchum, Keenan Moon, Stanley Dean, Jason Templeton, Brandon
Langley and Justin Benefield.
 Mr. Carr was born in Randolph County on Feb. 23, 1944, son of William 0.
Carr and Sisie Bowen Carr. He was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict and was a
member of the VFW, American Legion and the Church of God. Mr. Carr was a medical
assistant. His father, W.O. Carr, preceded him in death.

Velma J. Evans

 (ROANOKE) Funeral services for Velma J. Evans, 81, of Roanoke were Tuesday,
April 15, 1997, at noon at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel, with the Revs. Horace
Harper and Jack Maxwell officiating. Burial was at Randolph Memory Gardens.
 Mrs. Evans died Saturday, April 12, at West Georgia Medical Center in
LaGrange after an extended illness.
 A lifelong resident of Randolph County, she was a Heard County, Ga., native,
born May 31, 1915, daughter of Frank and Laura Johns Jacks. She was a homemaker
and a member of Community Holiness Church at Rock Mills.
 Survivors include her husband, Thomas Evans Sr. of Roanoke; two daughters,
Claudette Walters and Laura Wilson, both of Goose Creek, S.C.; three sons, Alan
Evans of Cross, S.C., Thomas Evans Jr. of Roanoke and James Evans of Moncks
Corner, S.C.; and 10 grandchildren.
 The family suggests any memorial contributions be made to Community Holiness
Church of Rock Mills building fund.
 Quattlebaum Funeral Home of Roanoke was in charge of arrangements.

Charles Carson Mooney

 (NEWELL) Charles Carson Mooney, 80, of Newell died Friday, April 11, 1997, 
in East Alabama Medical Center, Opelika.
 Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 13, in Benefield Funeral Home
Chapel, with the Rev. Tom Lighthall officiating. Burial was in the Smyrna
Baptist Church Cemetery.		
 Mr. Mooney is survived by his wife, Ethel Mooney of Newell, and three
sisters, Maggie Lee Smith, Ruby Walls and Audrey Alexander, all of Birmingham.
 Pallbearers were Larry Hart, Daniel Haynes, Barry Daniel, Rudolph Bates, John
Ragsdale and James Wells.
 Mr. Mooney was born in Etowah County on January 21, 1917, the son of Charles
P. and Lula C. McClesky. He was a veteran of World War II, He [sic] receiving
the Purple Heart, EMAE Campaign Medal, Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal and the
Combat Infantry Badge. He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventists, American
Legion, and a lifetime member of DAV. He was preceded in death by his parents
and brothers Samford and Eugene Mooney and sister Nannie Ragsdale.
 Benefield Funeral Home of Wedowee was in charge of arrangements.

Annie M. Waldrop

 (ROANOKE) Annie M. Waldrop, 88, of Roanoke, formerly of Camp Hill, died
Thursday, April 10, 1997, in Lanett.
 Funeral services were Saturday, April 12, at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Alabama
Funeral Homes in Dadeville, with the Rev. Ollie Wade officiating. Burial was in
the Tallapoosa County Memory Gardens.
 Survivors include one sister, Mrs. Lola Baldwin of Lanett and numerous nieces
and nephews, including Mrs. Grace Young of Roanoke.
 Pallbearers were Rick Young, Mickey Young, Jeff Young, Charles Mickle, Larry
Waldrop and Joey Lewis.
 Alabama Funeral Homes of Dadeville was in charge of arrangements.

Lois Lillian Brown

 (VALLEY) Funeral services for Lois Lillian Brown, 89, of Valley, formerly of
Roanoke, will be Wednesday, April 16, 1997, at 3 p.m. at Welcome Home Baptist
Church, with the Revs. Maynard McGinty and Jimmy Brown officiating. Burial will
follow at the church cemetery.
 Mrs. Brown died Monday, April 14, at Lanier Memorial Nursing Home in Valley.
 A Randolph County native, she was born October 8, 1907, daughter of Will and
Josie Richardson Bailey. She was a member of Welcome Home Baptist Church and
the Eastern Star and had retired from Lanett Mills.
 Survivors include two daughters, Ann Carson of Wadley and Vivian Nixon of
LaFayette; four sons, James E. Brown and Casper M. Brown both of Valley, and
William A. Brown and Charlie F. Brown, both of Lanett; 16 grandchildren; 
22 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
 Mrs. Brown will lie in state at the church for one hour beginning at 2 p.m.
on Wednesday.
 Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Ira Trent Moon, 103

 (ROANOKE) Funeral services for Ira Trent Moon, 103, of Roanoke were Saturday,
April 12, 1997, at 2 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church, with the Rev. Yancey Sanders
officiating. Burial was at the church cemetery.
 Mr. Moon died Thursday, April 10, at Randolph County Hospital.
 A Chambers County native, he was born December 1, 1893, son of Andrew
Franklin and Melissa Stocker Moon. He was a self-employed farmer and a member
of Bethel Baptist Church at Welch.
 Survivors include one daughter, Betty Ruth Brand of Huguley; one son, Paul G.
Moon of Roanoke; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
 Pallbearers were Steve Brand, Randy Moon, Scott Brasseal, David Falk, Brian
Brasseal and Wesley Brasseal.
 Quattlebaum Funeral Home of Roanoke was in charge of arrangements.

Sam Phillips

 Funeral services for Sam Phillips, 74, of 5136 County Road 26 Wadley, will be
at 2 p.m. Friday, April 18, 1997, at Mount Olive United Methodist Church,
Wadley, with the Rev. Hollis Boykin officiating. Burial will be in the church
cemetery.
 Mr. Phillips died Sunday, April 13, at Randolph County Hospital in Roanoke. 
He was preceded in death by his father, Alford Phillips, and his mother, Ella
Phillips.
 Survivors include his wife, Addie Phillips of Wadley; his brother, Leroy
Phillips of Roanoke; his step-daughter, Faye Poole of Wadley; his uncle, Frank
Slaughter; and three grandchildren.
 Visitation hours will be observed at Clark Memorial Funeral Service, Roanoke,
Thursday, April 17, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The body will be placed in the
church one hour before the funeral services.

Bobby Gay Bradley

 (ROANOKE) Funeral services for Bobby Gay Bradley, 47, of Roanoke were
Saturday, April 12, 1997, at 2 p.m. from Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel, with the
Revs. S. T. Janney and Bill Gallahar officiating. Burial was at Valley Grove
Church Cemetery.
 Mr. Bradley died Wednesday, April 9, from injuries sustained in an accident
in Cullman.
 A former resident of Valley Head, West Virginia, he was a Randolph County,
Alabama, native, born March 31, 1950, son of Ross Griffin and Flora White
Bradley. He was a diesel mechanic and truck driver employed with Harlin
Trucking Company in Roanoke, and was a veteran of the Vietnam 'War.
 Survivors include his wife, Beverly Marshall Bradley of Roanoke; two
daughters, Lisa Bradley Kaylor and Pamela Mitchell of Roanoke; one son, David
Bradley of Roanoke; three sisters, Clyde Brown of Roanoke and Polly Martin and
Dolly Brown, both of Lanett; six brothers, Sanford Bradley of Hogansville, Ovid
"Preach" Bradley and Billy Ray Bradley of Roanoke, John "Plug" Bradley of
LaGrange, Ga., and Horace Bradley and Mac Bradley of Lanett; five grandchildren
and numerous nieces and nephews.
 Mr. Bradley was preceded in death by his parents, Ross and Flora Bradley, 
a sister, Louise Bradley, and a brother, Elbert "Bud" Bradley.
 Quattlebaum Funeral Home, Roanoke, was in charge of' arrangements.

 The Leader has been informed of two errors in last week's obituary of Mr.
Bobby Gay Bradley. He was not employed by Harlin Trucking, reported, and he was
preceded in death by two sisters instead of one. The sister not named was Doris
Duberty.

William K. 'Red' Moore

 (LANETT) William K. "Red" Moore, 86, of Lanett died Wednesday, April 9, 1997,
at his residence.
 Mr. Moore was born in Randolph County on Jul 21, 1910.
 He was a retired employee of West Point Pepperell's Lanett Mill and had also
worked at the former Johnson-Blakely Funeral Home in Lanett. He was a member of
Friendship Congregational Christian Church, Roanoke.
 Survivors include two daughters, Barbara M. Blackstock of West Point, Ga.,
and Sondra Briggs of Cincinnati, Ohio; a son, James D. Moore of Lanett; four
sisters, Vollie Johnson and Florence Taylor of Roanoke and Chloe Wilson and
Eucal Haynes of Woodland; four brothers, Rudolph Haynes of Lanett, J. W. Haynes
of LaGrange, Ga., and Aaron Haynes and Howard Haynes of Valley; and three
grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
 Graveside services for Mr. Moore were at 2 p.m. Friday April 11, at Resthaven
Cemetery, the Rev. Gerald Sykes officiating.
 Memorials may be made to one's favorite charity, in his memory.
 Directing was Johnson Brown-Service/Valley.

Juanita R. Blanks

 (LANETT) Juanita R. Blanks of Lanett, 76, who was born in Randolph County on
January 30, 1921, died Tuesday, April 8, 1997, at East Alabama Medical Center in
Opelika.
 Mrs. Blanks was a retired employee of West Point Pepperell's Lanett Mill and
a member of Lanett First Baptist Church.

James Thomas Key

 (WADLEY) Funeral services for James Thomas "Jim" Key, 55, of Wadley were
Thursday, April 17, 1997, at 2 p.m. at Malone Baptist Church, with the Rev.
Zenus Windsor officiating. Burial was at Knight Cemetery.
 Mr. Key died suddenly Tuesday, April 15, at Randolph County Hospital.
 A Randolph County native and lifelong Wadley resident, he was born Oct 10,
1941, a son of George Thomas and Annie Ruth Sadler Key. He was a member of
Abanda Methodist Church and was a former sewing machine mechanic with Penrose
Manufacturing in Wadley.
 Survivors include his wife, Jane Smith Key of Wadley; one daughter, Rhonda
Slay of LaFayette; two grandchildren; his father, George Key of Wadley; one
sister, Brenda Key House of LaFayette; and two brothers, Phillip Key of
Hopkinsville, KY, and Bill Key of Wedowee.

 (Roanoke) The Rev. Curtis Puckett, 78, of Roanoke died Wednesday, April 16,
1997, at his residence after an extended illness.
 Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Friday, April 18, at Mt. Grove Baptist Church
with the Revs. Donald Spradlin and J. C. Holloway officiating. Burial was in
the adjoining cemetery.
 Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Dessie Mae Puckett of Roanoke, four
daughters, Dorothy Abbott of Camden, Tenn., Betty Cotton of Anniston, Jeanette
Jenkins of Atlanta and Barbara Sue Mitchell of Lanett; four sons, Leon Puckett
of Hilliard, Fla., Charles Puckett of Lemorre, Calif., Billy R. Puckett of
Roanoke and Jerry W. Puckett of Montgomery; 18 grandchildren and 16 great-
grandchildren; one brother, Eurtis Puckett of Roanoke; four sisters, Marie
Mitchell, Velma Milam and Mary Pate, all of Wedowee, and Pearline Ogles of
Micaville.
 Pallbearers were nephews.
 The Rev. Mr. Puckett was born in Randolph County on March 30, 1919, son of
Cicero and Reva Holloway Puckett. He was self-employed as a painter and was a
member of Mt. Grove Baptist Church.

Gaynell G. Wingo

 (VALLEY) Gaynell G. Wingo, 84, of Valley died Thursday, April 17, 1997, 
at Lanier Nursing Home in Valley.
 Mrs. Wingo was born in Randolph County on Oct. 25, 1912, daughter of James
David and Dora Crouch Wingo. She was a retired employee of West Point
Pepperell's Shawmut Mill with more than 47 years of service and was a member of
First Baptist Church in Hogansville, Ga., and the Hobby Club in Lanett.
 Survivors include three daughters, Neifa Wingo Patterson of Lanett, Barbara
Wingo Terry of Valley and Shirley Wingo Plemons of Columbus, Ga.; ten
grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
 Graveside services were at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 19, at Shawmut Cemetery,
the Rev. Kenneth Overby officiating.
 Arrangements were by Johnson Brown-Service of Valley.

 (ROANOKE) Funeral services for Obera Causey Drummond, 85, of Roanoke were
Saturday, April 19, 1997, at 4 p.m. from Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel, with Dr.
Doug Turner officiating. Burial was at Randolph Memory Gardens. 
 Mrs. Drummond died Friday, April 18, 1997, at Wedowee Hospital. A Randolph
County native, she was born Sept. 17, 1911. She was a member of First Baptist
Church, Roanoke, and a former employee of Handley Mills.
 Survivors include two sons, Ed Drummond of Roanoke and Dr. Ferrell Drummond
of Stone Mountain, Ga.; one sister[,] Octava Alsabrook of Roanoke; one brother,
Austin Causey of Warner Robins, Ga.; three grandchildren; and one great-
grandchild.

 (JASPER) Thomas Kem "T.K." Selman, 83, of Jasper died Monday, April 21, 1997,
at Druid City Hospital.
 Survivors include his wife, Rubye Selman of Jasper; two sons, Jerry K. Selman
of Jasper and Larkin L. Selman of Hickory, N.C.; a brother, J. W. Selman of
Jacksonville; and three grandchildren.
 Funeral services will be at First Christian Church of Jasper on Thursday,
April 24, at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Jack Baldwin officiating. A graveside
service will be at 4 p.m. at Lebanon Christian Church Cemetery near Roanoke. 	
 Mr. Selman was born July 17, 1913, on Sand Mountain. He was a veteran and an
attorney.

 (STANDING ROCK) Funeral services for Lorene Foster, 67, of Standing Rock were
Saturday, April 19, 1997, at 2 p.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel, with the

Rock Methodist Church Cemetery.
 Mrs. Foster died Friday, April 18, at West Georgia Medical Center in
LaGrange.
 A former LaGrange resident, she was a DeKalb County, Ala., native, born
February 22, 1930, daughter of William Lewis and Lula Mae Evans Gore. She was a
member of Rock Mills Church of the Nazarene, a homemaker and a member of the
Laureate Pi of Beta Sigma Pi.
 Survivors include two daughters, Sherry Daniel of Rock Mills and Joyce Akins
of Standing Rock; one son, Mickey Foster of Newnan, Ga.; her mother, Lula Mae
Ruckert of Roanoke; four sisters, Sue Hudson and Jeanetta Smith of Standing
Rock, Carlene Kline of Roanoke, Va., and Lois Turner of LaGrange, Ga.; one
brother, Virgil Gore of Roanoke; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

 (LANETT) Peggy Brown, 82, of Lanett died Saturday, April 19, 1997, at her
residence.
 Mrs. Brown was born July 20, 1914, in Lineville. She was a member of Calvary
Baptist Church.

Brown of Kennesaw, Ga.; and two sisters, Mae Gilliland of Roanoke and Mrs.
Douglas Brooks of Arab.

 Mr. Pike died suddenly Saturday, April 19, at Traylor Nursing Home in
Roanoke.
 A Randolph County resident most of his life, he was a Cleburne County native,
born March 13, 1904, son of Thomas and Fannie Hyatt Pike. He was a member of
Handley Avenue Church of God and a former employee of Randolph County
Commission. He was preceded in death by his wife, Vester Hammond Pike.
 Survivors include three daughters, Erma Jean Stitt of Roanoke, Louise Knight
of Dalton, Ga. and Jacqueline Howard of Rock Mills; two sons, Dorsey Pike of
Marietta, Ga. and J. R. Pike of Kennesaw, Ga.; one sister, Willie Lee Ducote of
Wichita, Ks.; one brother, Noah Pike of Roanoke; 18 grandchildren; 34 great-
grandchildren; and five great- great-grandchildren.

 Mrs. Wright died Sunday, April 20, at her home.
 A Randolph County native, she was born March 1, 1923, daughter of Carl and
Alice Mae Audrige Ussery. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by
her husband, Robert Lee Wright, and a son, Lewis Wright.
 Survivors include six daughters, Thelma W. Hodges, Mary Nell Stone and Helen
Jones of Roanoke, Mary Alice Hoke of Wedowee, Loretta Ogletree of Pine Mountain,
Ga. and Ruth Shuniak of Anniston; three sons, Robert Lee Wright Jr., Rufus Bobby
Wright and Elbert Wright, all of Standing Rock; one step-daughter, Judy Wright
of Fitzgerald, Ga.; two sisters, Addie Strickland and Laura Bell Wright of

 (ROANOKE) Funeral services for Henry Glen Boyd, Sr., 68, of Roanoke will be

Cedarwood Cemetery.
 Mr. Boyd died Sunday, April 20, at UAB Hospital in Birmingham after a short
illness.
 A former Atlanta resident, he was a Clay County native, born May 4, 1928, son
of William Wallace and Ethel Lee Phillips Boyd. He was a veteran of the Korean
War, serving in the Army Medical Corps. He was a member of First Baptist Church
in Roanoke and had been employed with Sherwin Williams Company in Lanett.
 Survivors include his wife, Rachel Rebecca Grubbs Boyd of Roanoke; three
daughters, Dr. Rebecca Madden of Rome, Ga., and Linda Bottcher and Ginger
Shelnutt of Auburn; one son, Henry Glen Boyd, Jr. of Roanoke; one sister, Millie
McNutt of Auburn; one brother, W.D. "Buddy" Boyd of Birmingham; one aunt, 
Helen Boyd of Thomaston, Ga.; and six grandchildren.
 Mr. Boyd will lie in state at the church for one hour beginning at 2 p.m. on
Wednesday.

 WOODLAND) Esther Parmer Patterson, 81, of 22458 County Road 82, Woodland,
died Sunday, April 27, 1997 at her residence after a short illness.
 Funeral services were at Bethel East Baptist Church at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April
29, with the Revs. Tony Morris, Terry Eason and Styles Akins officiating. 
Burial was in the adjoining cemetery.
 Mrs. Patterson is survived by her husband, Earnest Patterson of Woodland; two
sons, Kermit Patterson and Max Patterson of Ranburne; two grandchildren, Angie
McDaniel and Josh Patterson; one sister, Mrs. Lula Mae McCullough of Roanoke;
and one brother, Bruce Parmer of Roanoke.

 (OPELIKA) The funeral for Edgar Lee Norred, 59, of Opelika was Saturday,
April 19, 1997, at 2 p.m. at Central Baptist Church. Burial was in Garden Hills
Cemetery. The Rev. Buford Senn officiated.
 Mr. Norred, who died Thursday, April 19, at East Alabama Medical Center in
Opelika, was born Jan. 16, 1938, in Randolph County.
 He had lived most of his life in Opelika, was meat manager for A&P for 
34 years, owned Ed's Trading Post and was a member and chairman of deacons 
at Central Baptist Church in Opelika.
 Active and honorary pallbearers were the Central Baptist Church deacons.
 Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Angie McCollough Norred of Opelika; one
daughter, Tammy Collins of Heflin; two sons, Rick Edward Norred and Randy Norred
of Opelika; one sister, Roseanne Fuller of Conley, Ga.; two brothers, Gerald
Norred of Opelika and Ambers Norred of Phenix City; and four grandchildren.

Phillip Malone Maddox

 (WOODLAND) Phillip Malone Maddox, 38, of 41489 County Road 87, Woodland, died
Monday, April 28, 1997, at his residence.
 Mr. Maddox was born in Heard County, Ga., March 9, 1959, son of Garner R.
Maddox and the late Gwendolyn Traylor Maddox. He was a lifelong resident of
this area, a member of Bethel East Baptist Church and a mechanic at LaMar
Manufacturing Co.
 Survivors include his wife, Karen Hyatt Maddox of Woodland; three daughters,
Jessica Maddox, Nikki Muse and Brandy Jacobs, all of Woodland; father, Garner
Maddox of Woodland; brother, Roger Maddox of Woodland; step-brother, Tommy Brown
of Tallapoosa, Ga.; step-sister, Angela Gore of Tallapoosa.
 Funeral services for Mr. Maddox will be Wednesday, April 30, at 3 p.m. EDT,
with the Rev. Ridley Parmer and the Rev. Ridley Herren officiating. Pallbearers
will be Dannie Smith, David Baughn, Eddie Wessinger, Phil Parmer, Rex Gosdin and
Jimmy Lowery. Basil Snyder will be an honorary pallbearer. Interment will be

 (LAFAYETTE Mary Lou Edge, 85, of LaFayette died Saturday, April 26, 1997, 
at Randolph County Hospital, Roanoke.
 A Clay County native, Mrs. Edge was born November 26, 1911. She was retired
from Avondale Mills after 35 years and was a member of LaFayette Heights Baptist
Church.
 Funeral services were at LaFayette Heights Baptist Church on Monday, April
28, at 2 p.m., with interment in LaFayette Cemetery. The Rev. Paul Howard and
the Rev. John Gaines officiated.
 Survivors include two daughters, Becky Brown and Genny Lamb of LaFayette; two
sons, Tommy Edge of Birmingham and Bob White of Valley; one brother, Jack Liles
of LaFayette; 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
