OBITUARIES:

Annie Mae Wellborn

 (PEACHTREE CITY, Ga.) Services for Annie Mae Wellborn, 86, of Peachtree City,
Ga., were Thursday, May 29, 2003, at 11 a.m. at Tyrone Baptist Church with the
Rev. Farren Roper officiating. Burial was at Westminister Memorial Gardens in
Peachtree City.
 Mrs. Wellborn died Monday, May 26.
 A Roanoke native, Mrs. Wellborn was born July 13, 1916, to Mr. and Mrs. E. W.
Knight. She was a former employee of Palm Beach in Roanoke and a homemaker. 
Mrs. Wellborn was a member of Tyrone Baptist Church.
 She is survived by her children LeRoy and Louise Storey and Walter and
Harriett Wellborn of Loganville, Ga., Mary and Robert McLeod of Jonesboro, Ga.
and Melinda and Dennis Berkelbaugh of Peachtree City; eight grandchildren and
five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Ruth Laxson of Atlanta, Frances K.
Smith of Roanoke and Linda Mayberry of Ashland; and nieces and nephews. Mrs.
Wellborn was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur S. Wellborn; a daughter,
Sarah Hughes; and a grandson, Kimball Hughes.
 Arrangements were by Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Peachtree City.

William Sanford Ussery

 (ROANOKE) Services for William Sanford Ussery, 61, of Roanoke were Monday,
June 2, 2003, at 11 a.m. at Paran Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jerome Teal and
the Rev. Jamie Taylor officiating. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery.
 Mr. Ussery died Saturday, May 31, at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika.
 A lifelong resident of this area, Mr. Ussery was born March 16, 1942, in
Chambers County, son of Trent and Ethel Mae Hale Ussery. He was a member of
Paran Baptist Church and had been employed with Wehadkee Yarn Mills.
 Family members include his wife, Joan Huey Ussery of Roanoke; two daughters,
Joanie Purdy of Roanoke and Sheena Ussery (deceased); one son, Robbie Ussery of
Roanoke; three grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Ussery and Nancy Whaley of
Roanoke; and two brothers, Leon Ussery of Roanoke and Robert Dennis Ussery
(deceased).
 Pallbearers were Jason Ussery, Jamie Ussery, Lincoln Whaley, Leland Whaley,
Chucky Norred and Robert Sims.
 Arrangements were by Quattlebaum Funeral Home, Roanoke.

Ethel Montana Brooks

 (LANETT) Ethel Montana Brooks, 90, of Lanett died Friday, May 30, 2003, at
the Brian Center Nursing Home in LaGrange, Ga.
 Funeral services were Monday, June 2, at 2 p.m. EDT at Johnson Brown-Service
Funeral Home Chapel in Valley with the Rev. Floyd Aikens officiating. Burial
followed in Resthaven Cemetery.
 Mrs. Brooks is survived by her daughter, Syble Kittrell of Valley; three
grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; her sister, Katherine Parkerson of
LaGrange; four brothers, Coleman Sikes of Auburn, Stanley Sikes of Wedowee,
Carey Sikes of Anniston and Guy Sikes of Oxford; two sisters-in-law, including
Nell Sikes of Wedowee; and a brother-in-law.
 Born Sept. 4, 1912, in Randolph County, Mrs. Brooks was a homemaker. She was
well known for her quilts, and also baby-sat for children in the family. Mrs.
Brooks was a member of Happy Valley Baptist Church. She was the daughter of the
late Henry Edgar Sikes and Myrtle Bolt Sikes.
 Arrangements were by Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home, Valley.

Wilson 'Slim' Butler

 (LAGRANGE, Ga.) Wilson "Slim" Butler, 84, of LaGrange, Ga., died Friday, May
30, 2003, at Hospice LaGrange.
 Born Feb. 6, 1919, in Randolph County, Ala., Mr. Butler was the son of the
late Tom and Emily Williams Butler. He was an Army veteran of World War II, had
lived in LaGrange for 50 years and retired as a mechanic from Hart and Burgess
Company. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.
 Survivors include his wife, Pauline Butler of LaGrange; a daughter, Myra
Hutter of Charleston, S.C.; five sons, Lawrence Butler of Las Vegas, Nev.,
Richard Butler of Savannah, Ga., Spencer Butler, Lowell Butler and Jimmy Butler,
all of LaGrange; a stepson, Vestal Thomas of LaGrange; a sister, Oren Wysner of
Bowdon, Ga.; a brother, Doford Butler of Ashland; 22 grandchildren, 28
great-grandchildren and a step-granddaughter.
 Funeral cervices [services] were at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 1, at Friendship
Baptist Church in LaGrange with the Revs. James Moon and Jody Mitchell
officiating. Burial was in Restlawn Memory Gardens.
 Arrangements were by Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home, Hogansville,
Ga.

Gary Pete White Jr.

 (ALEXANDRIA) Services for Gary Pete White Jr., 30, of Alexandria, formerly of
Wedowee, were Monday, June 2, 2003, at 11 a.m. at Chapel Hill Funeral Home
Chapel with Dr. Mike Holcomb officiating. Burial was at 1:30 p.m. at Mt.
Pleasant Baptist Cemetery in Wedowee.
 Mr. White died Friday, May 30, at Regional Medical Center.
 Survivors include his wife, Tracee White of Alexandria; a daughter, Alayna
Michelle White of Alexandria; his father, Gary Pete White Sr. of Wedowee, his
mother, Janice Cummings of Candia, N.H.; six sisters, Tiersa Pico of Gardendale,
Jennifer Slaton of Jacksonville, Ginger Bitzer of Weaver, Camilla White of
Wedowee, Carisa Meadows of Woodland and Cara White of Jacksonville; and five
brothers, Jon White, James White, Jason White and Scott White, all of Wedowee,
and Brendon Cummings of Candia, N.H.
 Pallbearers were Dennis Holcomb, Brian Rosenbalm, Chad Curry, Danny Woods,
Greg Willingham, Dee Loucks, Jerry Angel and Lamont Davis.
 Mr. White was a Wedowee native and had lived in Calhoun County two years. He
was employed by Super Valu. He was a 1990 graduate of Trinity Christian Academy
and was a member of Westwood Baptist Church.
 In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to Westwood
Baptist Church.

Lindal Boyd Loften

 (WEDOWEE) Services for Lindal Boyd Loften, 67, of Wedowee were Monday, June
2, 2003, at 11 a.m. at Rainwater Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Greg Morris
and Clayton Mixon and Michael Lawhorne and Shawn Craig officiating. Burial was
at 2 p.m. in Forest Lawn Cemetery in College Park, Ga.
 Mr. Loften died Friday, May 30.
 Survivors include his wife, Martha Crumley Loften of Wedowee; three sons,
Michael Lawhorne and Stanley Loftin of Douglasville, Ga., and David Loftin of
Smyrna, Tenn.; four daughters, Lynn Avalos of Hiram, Ga., Melanie Craig and
Teresa Jones of Douglasville and Michelle Stone of Acworth, Ga.; four brothers,
C. J. Loftin of Carrollton, Ga., Millard Loftin and Willard Loftin of Bowdon,
Ga., and Terry Loftin of Newnan, Ga.; two sisters, Rachel Miller of Roopville,
Ga., and Hildred Nixon of Bowdon; 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
 Pallbearers were Billy Stone, Shawn Craig, Michael Lawhorne, Terry Loftin,
Willard Loftin and Millard Loftin.
 Mr. Loften, a native of Carroll County, Ga., was a retired merchant and Army
veteran. He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Arnold and Lessie Boyd
Loftin.

Wayne G. Watson

 (ANNISTON) Services for Wayne G. Watson, 59, of Anniston were Monday, June 2,
2003, at 2 p.m. at Rock Springs Cemetery in Roanoke with the Rev. Richard
Baldwin officiating. Mr. Watson died Thursday, May 29, at his home.
 Survivors include his wife, Mary Frances Watson of Oxford; two daughters,
Kimberly Tresscott and Kelly Watson of Michigan; two step-daughters, Debra
Burkett and Chyrl Ledbetter of Oxford; two sons, Douglas Watson and Troy Watson
of Michigan; three stepsons, Charles Jackson and Steven Jackson of Oxford and
Michael Jackson of Jacksonville; a sister, Delores Diamond of Michigan; a
brother, Max Watson of Michigan; and 12 grandchildren.
 Pallbearers were family friends.
 Mr. Watson was a native of Flint, Mich., but had lived in Anniston 22 years. 
He was preceded in death by his father, Max Watson; his mother, Ruth Watson
Freestone; his stepfather, John Freestone; a son, Wayne Watson Jr.; and two
brothers, William Watson and Steve Watson.
 Arrangements were by Miller Funeral Home, Oxford.

Juanita Newsome Davis

 (TALLADEGA) Services for Juanita Newsome Davis, 77, were Sunday, June 1,
2003, at 2 p.m. at Usrey Funeral Home, Talladega, with the Rev. Rob Paul and the
Rev. Ralph Jernigan officiating. Burial was in Pine Hill Cemetery.
 Mrs. Davis died Thursday, May 29, at BMC Montclair in Birmingham.
 She was born Aug. 17, 1925, in Talladega. She was preceded in death by her
parents, Robert Lee Newsome and Annie Theresa Brown Newsome.
 She is survived by her husband of 59 years, William Gordon Davis; two
daughters, Sheryl Ann Advis Denkler of Anchorage, Alaska, and Rebecca Jo Davis
Martin of Wadley; one son, William Gordon Davis Jr. of Birmingham; and four
grandchildren.
 Mrs. Davis was a life-long resident of Talladega, graduating from Talladega
High School in 1944. After serving the Talladega City School system as a
substitute teacher, she was the bookkeeper for the city school lunchroom for 17
years. She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Talladega. She
was a former member of the Holly Garden Club, an active member of the Andrew
Jackson Chapter of D.A.R. and a member of Quis Qui Social Sorority.
 Active pallbearers were members of Mr. Davis's Sunday school class and Jack
Garrett. Honorary pallbearers were the Adult III Sunday school department of
First Baptist Church.
 Memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Talladega.

Velma Inez Ayers

 (CARROLLTON, Ga.) Services for Velma Inez Ayers, 86, of Carrollton, Ga., were
Saturday, May 31, 2003, at 3 p.m. EDT at Ephesus Church of Christ with Otis
Bowen Jr. and Harry Cobb officiating. Burial was in [East] Napoleon Cemetery in
Napoleon with Martin & Hightower Funeral Home of Carrollton in charge.
 Mrs. Ayers died Wednesday, May 28, at her home.
 Survivors include a sister, Louis Brand of Carrollton; and a host of nieces
and nephews.
 Pallbearers were Mark Causey, Johnny Lynn, James Hester, John Lynn Jr., Roger
Lynn and Blaine Pickelsimer.
 Mrs. Ayers, a Randolph County native, was a member of Ephesus Church of
Christ. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Quinton
Ayers; her parents, James Herman Nichols and Minnie Lou Kimbrell Nichols; a
brother, Elton Nichols; and a sister, Era Lynn.

James R. 'Duck' Smallwood

 (LANETT) James R. "Duck" Smallwood, 82, of Lanett died Wednesday morning, May
28, 2003, at Hospice LaGrange in LaGrange, Ga.
 Graveside services were Friday, May 30, at 11 a.m. at Hillcrest Cemetery in
Lanett with the Rev. Ben Hewitt officiating.
 Mr. Smallwood is survived by his wife, Dorothy Morris Smallwood; his
daughter, Kay Calhoun of Marietta, Ga.; his son, Tim Smallwood of Valley; five
grandchildren; a step-grandson; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Nettie
Pearl Gray of Picayune, Miss.; one brother, Bennie Ray Smallwood of Lanett; and
many nieces and nephews.
 Born March 21, 1921, in Randolph County, Mr. Smallwood was a life-long
resident of the Valley area. He was a veteran of World War II, where he served
in the 685th Ordnance Ammunition Company. He was employed with Homebuilders
until he started Smallwood Plumbing Co., where he worked until his retirement. 
Mr. Smallwood was a member of Plant City Baptist Church. He was a kind and
loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and was well known
and loved by many. Mr. Smallwood was preceded in death by his sisters, Lurlene
Gray, Mary Joe Allen and Betty Ann Clark; and his brother, Buck Smallwood. He
was the son of the late Lucy B. and Joseph Smallwood.
 Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to LaGrange Hospice or to
Plant City Baptist Church in his memory.
 Arrangements were by Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home, Valley.

Homer Coy Jacks

 (TALLADEGA) Graveside services for Homer Coy Jacks, 82, of Talladega were
Thursday, May 29, 2003, at 2 p.m. at Pine Hill Memorial Park Cemetery with the
Rev. Bob Blackwell officiating and Usrey Funeral Home in charge.
 Mr. Jacks died Wednesday, May 28, at Citizens Baptist Medical Center in
Talladega.
 Survivors include a son, Danny Jacks of Talladega; two daughters, Linda Ponds
of Oxford and Nancy Gunter of Gaston; seven grandchildren and four
great-grandchildren.
 Mr. Jacks, a Rock Mills native, had lived in Talladega since 1959. He was
Baptist. He retired as a millwright from Crown Textile. He was preceded in
death by his wife, Winnie Jacks.

William A. 'Bill' Cantrell

 (GRANTVILLE, Ga.) William A. "Bill" Cantrell, 66, of Grantville, Ga., died
Tuesday, May 27, 2003, at Newnan Hospital East.
 Mr. Cantrell, born Aug. 20, 1936, in Troup County, Ga., was the son of the
late Sam and Mary Stone Cantrell. He was an Army paratrooper veteran and had
lived in Grantville for 40 years. He was the founder and former owner of Mr.
C's Mini Mart in Grantville and was serving as a member of the Grantville City
Council at the time of his death. He was a member of St. George Catholic Church
in Newnan, Ga., and was a 32nd degree Mason, a member of Union Lodge #28, Free
and Accepted Masons, and the LaGrange Shrine Club.
 Survivors include his wife, JoAnne Cantrell of Grantville; two daughters,
Nawana Winkles of Wedowee and Felicia Doler of Grantville; two sons, William
David Cantrell of Whittier, Calif., and Newman Randall Cantrell of Franklin,
Ga.; a sister, Mary Edith Watkins of Newnan; two brothers, N. L. Cantrell of
Beaufort, N.C. and James O. Cantrell of Savannah, Tenn.; 18 grandchildren and 11
great-grandchildren.
 Funeral services were at 3 p.m. Thursday, May 29, at St. George Catholic
Church in Newnan with Father Austin Fogarty officiating. Burial was in the
Grantville Cemetery.
 Arrangements were by Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home, Hogansville,
Ga.

Bobby Oneal Laney

 (WOODLAND) Services for Bobby Oneal Laney, 67, of Woodland were Friday, May
30, 2003, at 1 p.m. at Providence Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ridley Parmer
officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
 Mr. Laney died Tuesday, May 27, at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange.
 A native of Chattanooga, Tenn., Mr. Laney was born Dec. 2, 1935, son of Earl
and Florence Crenshaw Laney. He was a member of Providence Baptist Church and
had been employed with Ray Linn Construction.
 Survivors include two daughters, Gale Jones of Fairburn, Ga., and Susan
Garver of Austell, Ga.; four sons, Buddy Laney and Steve Laney of Powder
Springs, Ga., David Laney of Bishop, Ga., and Chris Laney of Austell; one sister
Earlene Lozano of Fayetteville, Ga.; two brothers, Cecil Laney of Jonesboro,
Ga., and Kara Laney of Forsyth, Ga.; 12 grandchildren and several nieces and
nephews.
 Arrangements were by Benefield Funeral Home, Wedowee.

Susie Mae Goode

 (ROANOKE) Susie Mae Goode, 66, of Roanoke died Tuesday, May 27, 2003, at
Randolph Medical Center.
 Services were Saturday, May 31, at 2 p.m. at Wehadkee Missionary Baptist
Church, Roanoke, with the Rev. Elijah Jackson Jr. officiating. Burial was in
the church cemetery.
 Survivors include her husband, Joe Lewis Goode of Roanoke; two daughters,
Erma Ruth Hill and Barbara Sue Goode of Roanoke; two sons, Michael Lewis Goode
and Bobby Joe Goode of Atlanta; two sisters, Mary Francis Bell Whatley of
Atlanta and Ruth Jean Bell Owensby of Dayton, Ohio; eight grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 13 sisters and brothers.
 Arrangements were by Clark Memorial Funeral Service, Roanoke.

Bernice C. Cummings

 (LAGRANGE, Ga.) Bernice C. Cummings, 90, of LaGrange, Ga., died Tuesday, May
27, 2003, at West Georgia Medical Center, LaGrange.
 Mrs. Cummings, born May 10, 1913, in Heard County, Ga., was the daughter of
the late Robert Elton and Rossie Tillman Bennett Cook. She had lived in
LaGrange most of her life and was employed at the Calumet Plant of Callaway
Mills Company.
 Survivors include a son, Sonny Cummings of LaGrange; a son-in-law, W. T.
Lewis of Woodland; four grandchildren, including Tommy Lewis of Woodland and
Keith Lewis of Graham; 10 great-grandchildren; a niece and a nephew. She was
preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd H. Cummings Sr., and a daughter, Robbie
J. Cummings Lewis.
 Funeral services were Friday, May 30, at 1 p.m. in the Hunter-Allen-Myhand
chapel with the Rev. Floyd Tenney officiating. Burial was in Shadowlawn
Cemetery.

Winnie Wood Traylor

 (WOODLAND) Services for Winnie Wood Traylor, 88, of Woodland were Friday, May
30, 2003, at noon at Benefield Funeral Chapel, Wedowee, with the Rev. Bobby
Burroughs officiating. Burial was at Ava United Methodist Church Cemetery.
 Mrs. Traylor died Tuesday, May 27, at Traylor Nursing Home in Roanoke.
 A Randolph County native, Mrs. Traylor was born Feb. 27, 1915, daughter of
James Robert and Perlonia Bolt McCain. She was a member of Ava United Methodist
Church and had been employed with Wedowee Hospital. She was preceded in death
by her husband, Willis Awbrey Traylor.
 Survivors include one daughter, Judy Holloway of Roanoke; two sons, Harvey
Traylor of Athens and Joe Bob Traylor of Woodland; two sisters, Betty Nelson of
Roanoke and Lera Post of Wedowee; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
 Pallbearers were Marty Williams, Jay Phillips, John Hall, Tommy Nelson, Tim
Harper and David Harper.
 Arrangements were by Benefield Funeral Home, Wedowee.

Verna Fincher Veal

 (ROANOKE) Services for Verna Fincher Veal, 80, of Roanoke were Thursday, May
29, 2003, at 2 p.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Billy Ray, the
Rev. Gary Baugh and the Rev. Ken Brooks officiating. Burial was at Potash
Cemetery.
 Mrs. Veal died Tuesday, May 27, at her home.
 A lifelong Randolph County resident, Mrs. Veal was born April 20, 1923,
daughter of Bert L. and Leola Skipper Fincher. She was a member of Potash
Church of God and had been employed with Handley Mills.
 Survivors include two daughters, Mary Jewell Smith and Elsie Wilson, both of
Roanoke; one son, Gerald Veal of LaGrange, Ga.; ten grandchildren and 15
great-grandchildren.
 Arrangements were by Quattlebaum Funeral Home, Roanoke.

Roberta Whitaker

 (LAGRANGE, Ga.) Roberta Whitaker of LaGrange, Ga., died Monday, May 26, 2003,
at A. G. Rhodes Convalescent Center in Marietta, Ga.
 Mrs. Whitaker, a native of Wadley, Ala., was the daughter of the late Jimmy
and Mary Elizabeth Hodnett. She was a homemaker and a member of the Golden Age
Club, the Troup County Senior Citizen's Center and Leete Hill United Methodist
Church, where she served on the stewardess board.
 Survivors include a daughter, Juanita Ferrell of Kansas City, Mo.; four
granddaughters and eight great-grandchildren; and other family members. She was
preceded in death by her husband, Wallace Whitaker, two daughters, Racine Brewer
and Virginia Allen; and two granddaughters, Carol and Phyllis.
 Funeral Services were Friday, May 30, at 3 p.m. at Leete Hill United
Methodist Church with the Rev. John Tompkins officiating. Burial was in the
Southview Cemetery.
 Arrangements were by Lakes-Dunson-Robertson Funeral Home.

 (CARROLLTON, Ga.) Services for Rose Francis Rodgers Smith, 75, of Carrollton,
Ga., were Wednesday, May 28, 2003, at 2 p.m. at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home Chapel
in Villa Rica, Ga., with the Rev. Steve Swafford officiating. Burial was in
Center Point Cemetery with Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in charge.
 Mrs. Smith died Monday, May 26, at her home.
 Survivors include four daughters, Diane Emory of Carrollton, Linda Shipman of
Forest Park, Ga., Paula Hathaway of Newnan, Ga., and Thedia Daniels of
Whitesburg, Ga.; three sons, Steve Smith of Carrollton, Douglas Smith of
Woodstock, Ga., and Phillip Smith of Wedowee; three sisters, Mary Sue Worthy of
Birmingham, Barbara Ann Silvey of Austell, Ga., and Lettie Hutcheson of
Anniston; 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and
nephews.
 Mrs. Smith, a Gadsden native, was Baptist. She was a homemaker. She was
preceded in death by her husband, John Harvey Smith; a son, Johnny Smith; and
her parents, Jesse B. and Maggie Williamson Rodgers.

 (LANETT) Frances Stroud Rutland, 76, of Lanett died Monday, May 26, 2003, at
the Brian Center in LaGrange, Ga.
 Funeral [services] were Wednesday, May 28, at 2 p.m. at McCarthy Funeral Home
Chapel in West Point, Ga., with Dr. Jerome King and the Rev. Ronnie Puckett
officiating. Burial followed in Marseilles Cemetery in West Point.
 Mrs. Rutland is survived by her husband, George Rutland of Lanett; four
daughters, Carol Bennett of Raleigh, N.C., Arlene Weathers and Joan Worthy, both
of Lanett, and Jane Rodriguez of Corpus Christi, Texas; three grandchildren;
three sisters, Merrell Farmer and June Huckleberry, both of LaGrange, and Clara
Gay of Roanoke; and her brother, James B. Stroud of Dadeville.
 Born Nov. 30, 1926, in Coosa County, Mrs. Rutland was a homemaker and active
in Shawmut First Baptist Church of Valley. She had worked as a volunteer at
Lanett Geriatric Center and for the American Red Cross. Mrs. Rutland was the

S. A. Manley

 (ROANOKE) Services for S. A. Manley, 77, of Roanoke were Thursday, June 5,
2003, at 11 a.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel, with Bro. Gerald Romine and the
Rev. Barry Harlin officiating. Burial was at Randolph Memory Gardens.
 Mr. Manley died Tuesday, June 3, at Traylor Nursing Home.
 A Randolph County native, Mr. Manley was born March 11, 1926, son of Sam A.
and Mittie Mae Veal Manley. He was a World War II, Korean and Vietnam Air Force
veteran, a Randolph County sheriff, and was a member of Roanoke Church of
Christ. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nettie Lucille Allen Manley, and
his parents.
 Survivors include two sons, Steven A. Manley of Roanoke and Michael L. Manley
of Wedowee; four grandchildren; one sister, Sarah Lashley of Roanoke; one
brother, Radney Manley of Riverdale; and one aunt.
 Local law enforcement officers served as pallbearers and as honorary
pallbearers.

 Mr. Clegg died Saturday, June 7, at Bill Nichols Home in Alexander City.
 A Randolph County native, Mr. Clegg was born June 27, 1923, son of Marvin and
Betty Thompson Clegg. He was a World War II veteran of the Marine Corp, a
member of Calvary Baptist Church, and had been employed with Handley Mills. He
was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Thelma A. Clegg.
 Survivors include two daughters, Judith Elaine Bonner of Roanoke and Mary
Ruth Railey of LaGrange; one sister, Nora Hart of Dublin, Texas; one brother,
Thomas F. Clegg of Wicomico Church, Va.; four grandchildren and five
great-grandchildren.

 (WACO, Ga.) Services for Franklin Black Parrish, 50, of Waco, Ga., were
Sunday, June 8, 2003, at 2 p.m. CDT at Oak Grove Baptist Church with the Revs.
Chester Pesnell and Gary Stewart officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery
with Rainwater & West Funeral Home, Inc. of Bowdon, Ga., in charge.
 Mr. Parrish died Friday, June 6, at his home.
 Survivors include two daughters, Sydney Parrish of Blue Mountain and Amanda
Wyatt of Bowdon; two brothers, Gilford Parrish of Woodland and Junior Parrish of
Wedowee; five sisters, Barbara Daniel of Bowdon, Juanita Gay of Waco, Gail
Goodwin of Muscadine, Jean Loveless of Breman, Ga., and Margaret Parmer of
Woodland; and three grandchildren.
 Pallbearers were nephews.
 Mr. Parrish, a Cleburne County native, was a member of Old Hopewell Baptist
Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow Marion and Betha
Lipham Parrish.

 (CARRIKKTIBM Ga.) Syble Marie Mashburn Lawson, 65, of Carrollton, Ga., died
Tuesday, June 3, 2003, at her home.
 Mrs. Lawson was born in Coweta County, Ga., Feb. 2, 1938, daughter of the
late Arthur M. and Ella Gray Mashburn.
 Surviving are her husband, Vernon Eugene Lawson of Carrollton; two sons,
Michael Eugene Lawson and Marty Glenn Upchurch of Carrollton; a daughter, Linda
Darlene Upchurch Luke of Carrollton; eight grandchildren; five
great-grandchildren; two brothers, Eugene Mashburn of Wedowee and James Elvis
Mashburn of Villa Rica, Ga.; and two sisters, Pearl Brooks and Lucy Musick of
Carrollton.
 Preceding Mrs. Lawson in death were a daughter, Terri Joe Lawson; brothers
Gertis Mashburn, Willard Mashburn, Ralph Whittington, Junior Mashburn and
Winston Mashburn; and sisters Lela Maude Mashburn, Hazel Martin and Verna
Huckeba.
 Services were at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, Carrollton, (Clem community) at
2 p.m. Thursday, June 5, with the Rev. Dr. Doug New and the Rev. Shane Roberson
officiating. Pallbearers were nephews Danny Mashburn, Joe Mashburn, Glenn
Upchurch, Brian Hill and John Glass, and family friends Cliff Eldred, Dan
Barclay and Carl Scarborough. Interment was in Carroll Memory Gardens in
Carrollton.

 Mrs. Spivey died Friday, June 6, at Randolph Medical Center.
 A Randolph County native, Mrs. Spivey was born March 5, 1929, daughter of
John T. and Bell Smith Pullen. She was a member of High Pine Baptist Church and
had been employed with Handley Mills. She was preceded in death by her parents.
 Survivors include her husband, Forrest "Junior" Spivey of Roanoke; a
daughter, Cindy Harper of Roanoke; two sons, Jimmy Spivey and Tim May of
Roanoke; three sisters, Maxine Vineyard of Newnan, Ga., and Corine Hester and
Lurline Young of Roanoke; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
 Pallbearers were Jarrett Spivey, Chris Brown, Sam Brown, Alex Brown, Daniel
Brown and Cody Butler. Honorary pallbearer was Russ Harper.

 Mr. Ayers died Wednesday, June 4, at his residence.
 A Randolph County native, Mr. Ayers was born Nov. 3, 1958, son of Duell and
Irene Wheeler Ayres. He was a member of Auburn Church of Christ. He was
preceded in death by his father.
 Survivors include his wife, Shan Smith Ayres of Roanoke; his mother, Irene
Ayres of Montgomery; a sister, Judy Gay of Tallassee; a brother, Alan Ayres of
New Orleans, La.; and several nieces and nephews.
 The family asks that any memorial donations be made to East Alabama Hospice.

Maynard McGinty

 (LANETT) The Rev. L. Maynard McGinty, 73, of Lanett died Tuesday, June 3,
2003, at George H. Lanier Memorial Hospital in Valley.
 Funeral services were Thursday, June 5, at 11 a.m. at Lanett Congregational
Christian Church with the Revs. William Priester, Charles Whitson and Roy Bain
officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery.
 The Rev. McGinty is survived by his wife, Gloria L. McGinty; his son, Cecil
McGinty of Camp Hill; his daughter, Norma Ainsworth of Valley; two
granddaughters and four great-grandchildren; and his brother, Doug McGinty of
Valley.
 Born April 10, 1930, in River View, the Rev. McGinty was a graduate of
Samford University and attended New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He
worked for the Valley Times-News in advertising and was a truck driver for Floyd
& Beasley trucking line. He recently retired from Pleasant Hill Baptist Church
after 23 years as pastor, and also was the pastor at Abanda Baptist Church for
10 years. He was a member of Lanett Congregational Christian Church and the
Lanett Masonic Lodge.

 (VALLEY) Mary B. Watson, 85, of Valley died Wednesday, June 4, 2003, at her
residence.
 Funeral services were Friday, June 6, at 2 p.m. at Johnson Brown-Service
Funeral Home Chapel in Valley with the Rev. Don Sailor officiating. Burial
followed in Resthaven Cemetery.
 Mrs. Watson is survived by her daughter, Janice Owens of Lanett; her
granddaughter; two sisters, Judy Wilson of LaGrange, Ga., and Audra Wood of
Houston, Texas; and two brothers, Arnold Bailey of Woodland and J. F. Bailey of
Valdosta, Ga.
 Born Dec. 21, 1917, in Randolph County, Ala., Mrs. Watson was a retired
employee of West Point Pepperell's Langdale Mill. She was a devoted volunteer
at George H. Lanier Memorial Hospital, having worked with the Al-Ga Hospital
Auxiliary for 13 years. At a recent luncheon at the Riverside Country Club,
Mrs. Watson was awarded the 3,000-hour bar for her service to the community. 
Best of all, she loved her family and friends, and she let them know by a
cheerful attitude and willingness to help in any situation. Mrs. Watson was a
member of Langdale Congregational Christian Church. She was preceded in death
by her husband, Raymond Watson, three sisters and two brothers. She was the
daughter of the late Ruby South Bailey and T. J. Bailey.
 Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Al-Ga Hospital
Auxiliary in her memory.

Harvey Chris Fuller

 (FRANKLIN, Ga.) Services for Harvey Chris Fuller, 68, of Franklin, Ga., will
be Wednesday, June 18, 2003, at 2 p.m. Central Time at Quattlebaum Funeral
Chapel Roanoke, with the Rev. Gerald Sheppard officiating. Burial will be at
Randolph Memory Gardens.
 Mr. Fuller died Sunday, June 15, at his residence in Franklin.
 A lifelong resident of Heard County, Mr. Fuller was born Oct. 24, 1934, son
of Horace Clark and Jimmie Cook Fuller. He was preceded in death by his wife,
Lottie Louise Fuller, and a son, Creston Gene Fuller. He was self employed at
Fuller Package Store.
 Family members include one daughter, Sherry Fuller of Washington state; one
son, Timothy Fuller of Washington state; one brother, William Fuller of
LaGrange, Ga.; three nieces; one nephew; three grandchildren; and special

 (FRANKLIN, Ga.) Elma Louneal Gregg, 79, of Franklin, Ga., died Sunday, June
15, 2003, at Hospice LaGrange.
 Mrs. Gregg, born Aug. 2, 1923, in Wadley, was the daughter of the late Lewis
and Alma Rice. She was a homemaker and had lived in the area since 1967. She
was a member of Dunson Baptist Church.
 Survivors include her husband of 61 years, the Rev. C. W. Gregg of Franklin;
two sons, DeVaughn Gregg and Billy Gregg of LaGrange; two daughters, Vera Sue
Mulkey of LaGrange and Ruth Gregg of Franklin; four grandsons; three brothers,
L. V. Rice of Wadley, Cordell Rice of Valley and Warren Rice of Opelika; two
sisters, Carolyn Moody of Alexander City and Kay Rudd of Opelika; and a number
of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers and a
sister.
 Funeral services were Tuesday, June 22, at 2 p.m. in the Hunter-Allen-Myhand
Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Sid Shelnutt, Frank Sledge, Bill Bryant and
Carlton Rivers officiating. Burial was in Restlawn Memory Gardens.

Conflict. He was preceded in death by his wife, Glenda Martin; his parents,
James and Vista Martin; and two brothers, Dale Martin and Jim Martin.

 Mr. Williams died Thursday, June 12, at his home.
 A Randolph County native, Mr. Williams was born June 12, 1908, son of Robert
and Celia Breed Williams. He was a member of Golden Springs Baptist Church. He
had worked as a farmer, an insurance agent and a bus driver with the Randolph
County school system. He had also taught singing schools for many years. He
was preceded in death by his wife, Winnie Williams.
 Survivors include one daughter, Sarah Willis of Anniston; one son, James
Velford Williams of Cohutta, Ga.; one sister, Frances Haynes of Wedowee; six
grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Clayton Wesley Sims

 (WADLEY) Clayton Wesley Sims, 82, of Wadley died Friday, June 13, 2003, at
George H. Lanier Memorial Hospital in Valley.
 Funeral services were held Monday, June 16, at 11 a.m. at Shiloh Baptist
Church with Mr. Jack Hill officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
 Mr. Sims is survived by his devoted companion of 29 years, Edna Jackson; his
children, Billy, Peggy and Jimmy; his brother, B. L. Sims of Decatur, Ala.; two
sisters, Cathryn Hadaway of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Virginia Cottrell of
Trussville; two sisters-in-law; and several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces
and -nephews.
 Born Aug. 18, 1920, in Chambers County, Mr. Sims owned and operated Sims
Radiator & Welding Shop in LaFayette for many years. He was an Air Force
veteran of World War II. Mr. Sims was preceded in death by his brothers, Hiram
Martin Sims, James Sims and Frank Sims. He was the son of the late Warner
Martin Sims and Ida Wesley Sims.
 Memorials may be made to the Shiloh Cemetery Fund in his memory.

 Mrs. Jackson died Tuesday, June 10, at Dekalb Medical Center in Decatur, Ga.
 Survivors include her husband, Boss Jackson of Anniston; a son, Johnny W.
Jackson of Lithonia; four daughters, Rosalyn J. Stansberry, Marilyn J. Carroll,
Bernice J. Carroll and Vickie J. Skelton, all of Lithonia; and a number of
grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
 Mrs. Jackson, a Roanoke native, was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. 
She had been employed at the Heart of Anniston. She was preceded in death by a
son, Dennis Jackson.

Dryden Funeral Home of Heflin in charge.
 Mr. Truett died Thursday, June 12, at Cleburne County Nursing Home.
 Survivors include his wife, Mary Lena Crook Truett; a daughter, Jimmie Ruth
Truett of Birmingham; a son Hoyt Ashley Truett of Heflin; three grandchildren
and five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
 Pallbearers were Mark Truett, Bob Poling, Scott Butler, Tommy Morgan, Terry
Butler and Mike Martin.
 Mr. Truett, a Randolph County native, lived most of his life in Cleburne
County. He was a member of Wise Chapel United Methodist Church. He was a
cattleman and a farmer and retired from Sewell Manufacturing Company. He was a
longtime member of the Alabama Farmers Federation and the Cleburne County
Cattleman's Association.

OBITUARIES:

James Griffin

 (WADLEY) James Griffin, 74, of Wadley died Saturday, June 21, 2003, at his
residence.
 Mr. Griffin was born in Lanett on Sept. 8, 1928. He was an Air Force veteran
of the Korean War and operated the Valley Freeze Plant from 1968 until 1981. He
later retired from the West Point Pepperell Service Center.
 Graveside services were at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 23, at Shiloh Baptist
Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Floyd Aikens officiating.
 Surviving are three children, Jimmy Griffin of Eclectic and Elaine Stone and
Barbara Elliott of Wadley; one brother, Bill Griffin of Wetumpka; one sister,
Marion Moore of Opelika; and five grandchildren.

Virginia Brown Lovvorn

 (RALEIGH, N.C.) Virginia Brown Lovvorn, 92, of Raleigh, N. C. died June 5,
2003.
 Services were held on June 7, 2003, with burial following at Montlawn
Memorial Park.
 Mrs. Lovvorn was a native of Richmond, Mo., and graduated with honors from
Drury College, Springfield, Mo. She was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority
while at Drury. She taught English in the Richmond, Mo., high school before her
marriage in 1936.
 Shortly after her marriage to Dr. Roy L. Lovvorn, a native of Woodland, they
moved to Raleigh, N.C., where except for brief residences elsewhere, she has
lived. In addition to her duties as wife and mother of three sons, she was
active in Pullen Memorial Baptist Church, where she served as superintendent of
the junior high Sunday school department for many years. Other activities
included the P.E.O. Sisterhood, the Cynthia Bookclub and the North Carolina
State University Women's Club, having served as president of all three

Randy Lee Higgins

 (LINEVILLE) Services for Randy Lee Higgins, 52, of Lineville were Tuesday,
June 24, 2003, at 2 p.m. at Christianna Baptist Church in Randolph County, with
Rev. Steve White, Rev. Bob Bain and Rev. Ronnie Key officiating. Burial was in
the church cemetery with Benefield Funeral of Lineville in charge.
 Mr. Higgins died Saturday, June 21, in Randolph County.
 Survivors include his fiance, JoAnn Smith of Delta; a daughter, Miranda
Jordan of Delta; two sons, Joey Higgins of Delta and Christian Higgins of
Lineville; his mother, Mary Glen Higgins of Lineville; three sisters, Patricia
Johnson and Patsy Phillips, both of Lineville, and Rita Adams of Delta; two
brothers, Jimmy Higgins and Kenneth Higgins, both of Lineville; and seven
grandchildren.
 Pallbearers were Rusty Taylor, Jerry Smith, J. J. Jordan, Gerald Higgins,
Herbert Higgins, Gary Higgins, Tim Sprayberry and Larry Erwin.
 Mr. Higgins was a native and lifelong resident of Clay County. He was
formerly employed with Hoover Haynes Rubber Co. in Tallapoosa, Ga. He was a
member, deacon, Sunday school teacher and assistant song leader at Christianna
Baptist Church in Randolph County.

Willie J. McNeil

 (ROANOKE) Willie J. McNeil, 86, of Roanoke died Monday, June 16, 2003, at
East Alabama Medical Center, Opelika.
 Services were Saturday, June 21, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Riley
St., Roanoke, with the Rev. Gilbert Staples and the Rev. Jeffery D. Rosser
officiating. Burial was in East Roanoke Cemetery.
 Survivors include three daughters, Gloria Wofford, Dianne Daniel and Georgia
Hendricks of Roanoke; a sister, Lizzie Peterson of Pensacola, Fla.; a special
friend, Mary T. Bell of Roanoke; an aunt; seven grandchildren and 17
great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Hattie McNeil.

W. H. Hester

 (LAGRANGE, Ga.) W. H. Hester, 85, of LaGrange, Ga., died Saturday at West
Georgia Medical Center, LaGrange.
 Mr. Hester was born July 24, 1917, in Randolph County, Ala., the son of the
late William Vernon and Dink Annie Scott Hester. He was a retired master
machinist for Lockheed of Marietta and DeZurik of LaGrange, a member of Elm City
Lodge No. 544 Free and Accepted Masons and a member of Springhill Baptist
Church, where he was a deacon.
 Survivors include three daughters, Betty Jean Hester, Irene Langley and
Glenda Dudley, all of LaGrange; four grandchildren; one sister, Lorell Hester of
LaGrange; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter and several
nieces and nephews.
 Funeral services were at 4 p.m. Monday, June 16, at Hunter-Allen-Myhand
Chapel, with the Rev. Milton Whitlock officiating. Burial was in Restlawn
Memory Gardens.

Thomas B. Bradley

 (BEULAH) Thomas B. Bradley, 84, of Beulah died Thursday, June 19, 2003.
 Mr. Bradley was born in Randolph County on Jan. 19, 1919, son of the late
Charlotte Kitchens Bradley and Henry Milford Bradley. He was a veteran of World
War II, having served in the U. S. Army in Battery D, 101st Anti-aircraft
Artillery. He was retired from West Point Pepperell's Fairfax Mill with more
than 35 years of service. He was a member of Beulah Baptist Church and Beulah
Senior Center.
 Surviving are two daughters, Kim B. Nuncio of Beulah and Tommie Nell Bradley
of Tuskegee; five sisters, Lessie Mitchell, Myrtis Hanson, Hilda Gittings and
Maurice Lee of Wedowee, and Mary Nears of Texas; and two grandchildren. He was
preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Edmondson Bradley; his sons, Harry Michael
Bradley and Barry Wade Bradley; and a granddaughter, Lindsey Nicole Nuncio.
 Services were at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley at 2
p.m. on Monday, June 23, with the Rev. Jim Dykes officiating. Burial was in
Resthaven Cemetery.
 Memorial donations may be made to Bethany House in Auburn or to Beulah
Baptist Church.

Milford C. Nichols

 (SMYRNA, Ga.) Milford Clayton "Nick" Nichols, 70, of Smyrna, Ga., died
Sunday, June 15, 2003.
 Services were at 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 19, 2003, at Georgia Memorial Park
Funeral Home-Winkenhofer Chapel in Marietta, Ga., with the Revs. Terry Marbut,
Ken Hennessey and Sanford Phillips officiating.
 A native of Randolph County and a graduate of Woodland High School, Mr.
Nichols served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He retired from Lockheed
Martin Aeronautics Company in 1999 after 38 years as an electrical engineer. He
was employed by Wade Ford Inc. in Smyrna as a part-time driver. He was a member
of American Legion Post 160 in Smyrna and Liberty East Baptist Church in
Randolph County.
 Survivors include his wife, Bobbie Alley Nichols of Douglasville, Ga.; one
son, Major Christopher Nichols of Cartersville, Ga.; one daughter, Jennifer
Bramlett of Smyrna; one brother, Larry Wayne Nichols of Powder Springs, Ga.; one
sister, Jeanette Haggard of Covington, Ga.; two stepsons, Tim and Robert Alley,
both of Douglasville; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
 He was preceded in death by his parents, Pauline Yarbrough Nichols and Glover
Nichols; and his wife, Runell Langley Nichols.

Charles Gayron Calhoun

 (WOODLAND) Services for Charles Gayron Calhoun, 62, of Woodland were Sunday,
June 22, 2003, at 2 p.m. at Providence Baptist Church, with the Rev. David
Daniel officiating. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery.
 Mr. Calhoun died Friday, June 20, at his home.
 A Randolph County native, Mr. Calhoun was born March 2, 1941, son of Jasper
G. and Jewell Emma Lou Daniel Calhoun. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam
War, a member of Zion Baptist Church and had been employed with Trintex. He was
preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Dianne Sinnock; and two brothers,
Travis Calhoun and Glenn Calhoun.
 Survivors include one daughter, Amy Calhoun of Woodland; one son, Ryan
Calhoun of Woodland; two sisters, Delores Langley of Mableton, Ga. and Judy
McCreless of Covington, Ga.; and one brother, H. W. "Dub" Calhoun of Woodland.
 Pallbearers were Ken Arrington, Keith Arrington, Sam Arrington, Terry Butler,
Waymon Smith, Duane Bailey, Ted Strain and Jamie Strain.

James Hogan Jr.

 (FIVE POINTS) Services for James Hogan Jr., 67, of Five Points were Friday,
June 20, 2003, at 2 p.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Richard
Baldwin, the Rev. Clifford Delee and the Rev. Benny Phillips officiating. 
Burial was in the Community Baptist Church Cemetery in Chambers County.
 Mr. Hogan died Wednesday, June 18, at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika.
 Mr. Hogan was a native of Randolph County, born Feb. 10, 1936, son of James
Hogan Sr. and Mae Pike. He was a carpenter and member of Rock Mills Church of
God.
 Mr. Hogan is survived by his wife, Betty Smith Hogan in Five Points; five
daughters, Kathy Morgan of Alexander City, Sylvia Watts of Marion, S.C., Anita
Hogan of Alexander City, Shelia Henry of LaGrange, Ga., and Toni Maddux of
Valley; four sons, David Hogan of Daviston, Ronald Hogan of Five Points, Gerald
Hogan of Alexander City and Darrell Hogan of Five Points; stepchildren Lamar
Weaver of Roanoke, Tonya Cook of Heflin, Dwayne Weaver of Roanoke and Jimmy
Weaver of Roanoke; two sisters, Clara Royster of Roanoke and Mammie Waldrep of
Wadley; two brothers, Willie Pike of Valley and Lewis Pike of Five Points; 20
grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one step-grandchild. He was preceded
in death by his mother, a brother, Richard Hogan, and two great-grandchildren.

 Mr. Marshall died Tuesday, June 17, at Huntsville Hospital.
 He is survived by his wife, Linda Marshall of Madison; a son, Tyler Marshall

Jordan, Robert Jordan of Murphy, N.C.; and two brothers, Bobby Marshall of
Brewton and Charles R. Jordan of Roanoke.

Nena Myrtice Farlow Potter

 (POWDER SPRINGS, Ga.) Services for Nena Myrtice Farlow Potter, 83, of Powder
Springs, Ga., were Tuesday, June 24, 2003, at 2 p.m. CDT at Macedonia Baptist
Church, with the Rev. Marc Merritt and the Rev. G. K. Abner officiating. Burial
was in the church cemetery.
 Mrs. Potter died Sunday, June 22, at Brian Center, Powder Springs.
 A former resident of Ranburne, Ft. Wayne, Ind., and Lakeland, Fla., Mrs.
Potter was a Cleburne County native, born July 19, 1919, daughter of Tom F. and
Evie Richardson Farlow. She lived most of her adult life in Indiana and had
retired from General Electric Company. She was a member of Macedonia Baptist
Church until she joined the Methodist church in 1955. She had been a member of
Crystal Lake Methodist Church in Lakeland for the past 17 years. She was
preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wayne Potter; a sister, Essie
Cole; a brother, Earl Farlow; and an infant son, Tommy.
 Survivors include five sisters, Eva Cole of Carrollton, Ga., a twin sister,
Myrtle Bradbary of Ranburne; Geraldine Graham of Marietta, Ga., and Betty
Phillips and Virginia Mayfield of Dallas, Ga.
 Nephews served as pallbearers.
 Arrangements were by Quattlebaum Funeral Home, Roanoke.

Dessie Parmer Anderson

 (CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.) Dessie Parmer Anderson, 92, of Chattanooga, Tenn.,
formerly of LaGrange, Ga., died Monday, June 16, 2003.
 Mrs. Anderson, born March 3, 1911, in Wedowee, was the daughter of the late
James Simon and Donia Overton Parmer. She retired from the Dunson Division of
West Point Pepperell after 29 years of service. She was a Methodist.
 Survivors include a twin sister, Bessie Darden of LaGrange; a stepson and his
wife, Truman and Janet Anderson of Hixson, Tenn.; three grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren.
 Graveside services were Wednesday, June 18, at 2 p.m. in Hillview East
Cemetery with the Rev. Hansel Parmer officiating.
 Arrangements were by Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, LaGrange.

 (HEFLIN) Services for Dorothy Smith, 63, of Heflin were Saturday, June 21,
2003, at 3 p.m. at Beason Grove Baptist Church with David Reaves, John D.
Collins and James Cavender officiating. Burial was in Beason Grove Cemetery
with Dryden Funeral Home of Heflin in charge.
 Mrs. Smith died Wednesday, June 18, at Cleburne County Nursing Home in
Heflin.
 Survivors include three daughters, Robbie S. Vaughn of Heflin, Brenda Garner
of Woodland and Pamela Kimbrell of Newell; three sons, Tommy Smith of Ellijay,
Ga., Ronald R. Smith of Lecta and Billy R. Smith of Heflin; a sister, Betty
Robinson of Bowdon, Ga.; two brothers, Welton Joe Henry of Heflin and James
O'Dell Henry of Morrison Crossroads; 18 grandchildren and three
great-grandchildren.
 Pallbearers were family and friends. Honorary pallbearers were be (sic)
grandsons.
 Mrs. Smith, a Cleburne County native, lived in Heflin most of her life. She
retired as a seamstress from Bremen Bowdon Investment Co. in Bowdon, Ga. She
was a member of Beason Grove Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her
husband, John M. Smith; and a grandson, Todd Bass.

Leila Will Crimm

 (FORT WORTH, Texas) Leila Will Clemm, 92, of Fort Worth, formerly of Fairfax,
died Tuesday, June 17, 2003, at Renaissance Park Care Center.
 Funeral services were Friday, June 20, at 11 a.m. at Johnson Brown-Service
Funeral Home Chapel in Valley with Mr. Bill Caldwell officiating. Burial
followed in Fairfax Cemetery.
 Mrs. Clemm is survived by her daughter, Dianne Caldwell of Forth Worth; two
grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
 Born Aug. 29, 1910, in Randolph County, Ala., Mrs. Clemm was a former
employee of West Point Steven Fairfax Mill. She was also a former member of the
Fairfax Hobby Club. Mrs. Clemm was a former member of Fairfax First Baptist
Church.
 The family respectfully declines the gift of flowers and asks that donations
be made to the Senior Citizens Fund at Fairfax First Baptist Church.

 Mr. Williams died Saturday, June 21, at University Hospitals in Birmingham.

and two nieces.
 Mr. Williams, an army veteran, had lived in Calhoun and Randolph counties the
past 25 years. He was employed as a compliance officer at the Anniston Army
Depot.

 (WEDOWEE) Memorial services for Susan Kay Williams, 51, of Wedowee were

 Ms. Williams died Saturday, June 21, in Hollis Crossroads.

counties for the past 25 years. She was employed as an office manager at the

Amanda Lynn Rollins

 (JAMESTOWN, S.C.) Services for U.S. Coast Guard Quartermaster 2nd Class
Amanda Lynn Rollins, 25, of Jamestown, S.C., formerly of Clay County, were
Friday, June 20, 2003, at 2 p.m. at Mt. Carmel Christian Church with the Revs.
Noel Vickers and J. C. Holloway officiating. Burial was in Mt. Carmel Cemetery
with Benefield Funeral Home of Lineville in charge.
 Ms. Rollins died Tuesday, June 17.
 Survivors include her parents, Priscilla and Tony Rollins of Meadow Valley; a
brother, Matt Rollins of Mellow Valley; her grandmothers, Callie Maddox of
Mellow Valley and Elsie Rollins of Woodland; an uncle, and her fiance, Charlie
Hinds of Jamestown.
 Ms. Rollins, A Clay County native, was a member of Mt. Carmel Christian
Church. She served four years in the Coast Guard and a year as active
reservist. She was a first crewman aboard the USCGC WLM 556 Joshua Appleby. 
She was stationed in Charleston, S.C., was attending College Charleston and
worked at Bilo's Grocery.
