Julian Murphy officiating. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery. Mr. Rice died Tuesday, Feb. 24, at his home. Survivors include two daughters, Pamela Sheats and Kim Rice, both of Newell; two grandchildren; two sisters, Joyce Cushing and Nora Ragsdale of Newell; two brothers, Quinton Rice of LaGrange, Ga., and Paul Rice of Newell; and his stepmother, Claudia Rice of Pine Hill. Pallbearers were Winford "Wimp" Pollard, Brandon Cushing, Willie Rice, Mike Rice, Danny Nolen and Michael Kimbrell. A Randolph County native, Mr. Rice was born Aug. 17, 1937, son of Charlie and Carrie Gosdin Rice. He was a member of Pinetucky Baptist Church and worked as a carpenter. He was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Shelley Fred and Curtis Rice. "Sam" died Saturday, Feb. 28, at Bethany House in Auburn after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born Feb. 13, 1956, in Jacksonville, Fla., but had been a resident of Roanoke for the past 20 years. Worth, Texas, and Jo Ann Hamlin, Billie Frye and Patricia Harvel of Roanoke; seven nieces and nephews and one greatniece. Camp, 82, of LaGrange, Ga., died Sunday, Feb. 22, 2004, at West Georgia Medical Center, LaGrange. Mrs. Camp, born Sept. 11, 1921, in Wadley, was the daughter of the late Freeman and Vera Carlton Elliott. She had lived in LaGrange most of her life, had worked in textiles and was a homemaker. She was a member of Southwest LaGrange Baptist Church, where she was in the Adult III Charity Class and was secretary, group leader for Circle III and outreach leader. Survivors include two daughters, Allene Reeves of Americus, Ga., and Marcia Johnson of Kennesaw, Ga.; four grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; two sons-in-law; six sisters-in-law; a brother-in-law; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen Camp. McKay Jr., 76, of Hampton, Va., formerly of West Point, Ga., died Saturday, Feb. 28, 2004, at V.A. Hospital in Hampton. Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, March 3, at 2 p.m. at McCarthy Funeral Home Chapel in West Point with Dr. David Hendrix officiating. Burial will follow in Marseilles Cemetery in West Point. Mr. McKay is survived by his wife, Ruth Truitt McKay of Hampton; one daughter, Donna Green of Hayes, Va.; one son, Lane McKay of Yorktown, Va.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Clarice Caldwell of Hope Hull. Born Feb. 26, 1928, in Roanoke, Mr. McKay worked as a sales agent for Gulf Life Insurance Co. for several years. After retirement from his insurance job because of ill health, he worked as a handyman. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force after World War II. He loved his family and enjoyed traveling. Mr. McKay was of the Baptist faith. He was the son of the late Geneva Godbee McKay and Luther E. Funeral services were Tuesday, March 9, at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Riley Street, Roanoke, with interment in Rock Mills Baptist Church Cemetery. Officiating were the Rev. Gilbert Staples, pastor, and Rev. Willie T. Edmondson, eulogist. She is survived by three sons, Roy Terry and Rev. William Terry of Roanoke and Rudolph Terry of Atlanta; two adopted daughters, Gloria Jean Jordan Sadler of Conyers, Ga., and Charis "Pat" Jordan of Youngstown, Ohio; a brother, Lee Andrew Wilson of Baltimore, Md.; three daughters-in-law; a son-in- law; seven step-children; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather, Reece Wilson; brothers, Joseph Heard Jr., Oscar Lee Heard and Brady Wilson; husband, Jesse A. Terry; son, Jesse A. Terry Jr.; adopted daughter, Addie Jordan; and two grandchildren. Mrs. Williams was born in Cragford to Joseph Heard Sr. and Lula Trammell Heard on Dec. 20, 1919. She attended elementary and high school at Randolph County Training School in Roanoke, where she graduated with the highest honor in the class. She confessed her faith in God at First Baptist Church, Roanoke, in 1932. She married Jesse A. Terry on Dec. 20, 1939. She was co-founder and designer/ seamstress for Terry Upholstery and co-founder and first production manager of Terry Manufacturing Company Inc. Mrs. Terry joined, Rock Mills Baptist Church in 1952 to bring her family all together in one church home. After 31 fruitful years at Rock Mills in the Southwestern Union District, she returned to serve at First Baptist. After the passing of Mr. Terry in 1988, she married deacon Billy Ed Williams on March 24, 1990. Mrs. Terry-Williams was then associated with Canaan Baptist Church for several years before returning to her first church home, where she served until her death. Mrs. Gross died Friday, March 5, at NHC Healthcare at Golden Springs in Anniston. Survivors include two daughters, Janie Traylor of Woodland and Wilma Kelley of Bartlett, Tenn.; a son, Jimmie F. Gross of Savannah, Ga.; two grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren; four sisters, Josie Teal and Clois Lashley of Woodland and Effie Walls and Winnie Baker of LaGrange, Ga.; a sister-in-law; two sons-in-law; and 30 nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were men of Rocky Branch Baptist Church. Mrs. Gross was a native and lifelong resident of Randolph County, born June 24, 1909, the daughter of Joseph and Viola Wilson Parker. She was a graduate of Randolph County High School, a homemaker and member of Rocky Branch Baptist Church, where she was the senior ladies' Sunday school teacher and was honored on her 90th birthday with "Minnie Lee Gross Day." She was a charter member of Hobson Homemakers Club and an officer of the Randolph County Council of Extension Service. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Carey Arlin Gross; two sisters, Iva Dewberry and Tessie Ware; and five brothers, Loyd, Willie, Vernon, Brewell and Garvis Parker. He was born Aug. 30, 1948, in Hogansville, Ga., the son of Herschel A. and Idella Gaddy Gibson. He worked as a mechanic at Fryers Tire Center for many years. Memorial donations may be made to First United Methodist Church. Mrs. Gladney was born on May 20, 1916. She was retired from Watson's Nursery, where she worked as a landscaper and floral designer. Mrs. Cullars, a native of Old Spring Hill in Marengo County, was born in Linden, Ala., in 1908. She was the daughter of Maggie Will Wooddy Torbert of Oakbowery (Chambers County) and Alexander Torbert of Linden. Her mother died in 1909 at an early age, and her father gave her into the foster care of her aunt and uncle, Eva Hunt Wooddy and Louise Massey Wooddy of Gold Hill, who raised her as their child. Mrs. Cullars graduated in home economics from Alabama College for Women in Montevallo and began teaching at Abbeville. She married Walter Cullars Jr. of Opelika, and they lived in Roanoke and West Point, Ga., before moving to LaGrange in 1945. She taught home economics in Randolph County and later taught biology at Troup County High School. She was a member of First Baptist Church of LaGrange for over 59 years and was active as Circle Leader for the Baptist Missionary Society. Mrs. Barker was preceded in death by her husband, Asa Paskell Barker; two brothers, James Tipton and William Tipton; a son, David Jeffrey Barker; and a grandson, Joshua Allan Krieger.
