OBITUARIES:

Erma Wright Waldrep

   (WEDOWEE) Funeral services for Erma Wright Waldrep, 94, of Wedowee were at 3 
p.m. Saturday, Oct. 2, 1999, at Benefield Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Roger Florence 
officiating.  Burial followed at Pleasant Grove Baptist Cemetery.
   Mrs. Waldrep died Wednesday, Sept. 29, at her residence following an extended illness.
   She was born in Randolph County on Dec. 28, 1904, daughter of Harper and Alice 
Waldrep Tarver.  She was a homemaker, a member of Wedowee Homemakers Club and a 
member of the Congregational Christian Church at Rock Springs.  She was preceded in 
death by her husband, Luther Waldrep, a son Manley Waldrep, a daughter Etta Mae 
Waldrep, eight brothers and sisters and a granddaughter.
   Survivors include three daughters, Erma Irene Pierce of Montgomery, Eudine Fowler of 
Roanoke and Alice Duke of Newell; one sister, Annie Maude Jackson of Roanoke; six 
grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces 
and nephews.
   Pallbearers were Roger Brown, James Tarver, Gregory Dendinger, J. R. Jernigan, 
Ronnie Shumaker, Jason Shumaker, Jimmy Kenny and Ervin Dendinger.
   Benefield Funeral Home of Wedowee was in charge of arrangements.

Bernice H. Lake

   (ROANOKE) Funeral services for Bernice H. Lake, 80, of Roanoke will be Wednesday, 
Oct 6, 1999, at 11 a.m. at Benefield Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Louie Olds 
officiating.  Burial will follow at Liberty Grove Congregational Methodist Church 
cemetery.
   Mrs. Lake died Monday, Oct. 4, at Randolph County Hospital after an extended illness.
   A Randolph County native, Mrs. Lake was born Jan. 31, 1919, daughter of John Robert 
and Maudie Emma Clark Henderson.  She was a homemaker and a member at House of 
Prayer Church of God.
   Survivors include one son, Billy Joe Lake of Roanoke; two sisters, Hattie Noles of 
Roanoke and Letha Sellers of West Point, Ga.; and two grandchildren.
   Arrangements are by Benefield Funeral Home, Wedowee.

OBITUARIES:

B. J. Heard

   (ROANOKE) B. J. Heard, 66, of Roanoke died Thursday, Oct. 7, 1999, at Veterans 
Administration Medical Center, Montgomery.  Funeral services were Tuesday, Oct. 12, at 
2 p.m. at Saint Paul Missionary Baptist Church, Roanoke, with the Rev. William Phillips 
and the Rev. R. L. Heflin officiating.  Burial was in the church cemetery.
   Survivors include four sisters, Annie Heard and Mable Holley of Roanoke, Mae L. Gay 
of Decatur, Ga., and Sara Clark of Stamford, Conn., and nieces and nephews.  He was 
preceded in death by his parents, J. B. and Viola Heard and five brothers, David, Will, 
Paul, Adams and Richard Heard.
   A native of Roanoke, Mr. Heard was a career serviceman, having received an honorable 
discharge from the U.S. Air Force.  He was a lifelong member of Saint Paul Baptist 
Church.
   Arrangements were by Clark Memorial Funeral Service, Roanoke.

Paschal Cortez Brown

   (FIVE POINTS) Funeral services for Paschal Cortez Brown, 87, of Five Points were 
Monday, Oct. 11, 1999, at 2 p.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel, with the Revs. Gerry 
Gilmer and Kenneth Johnson officiating.  Burial was at Randolph Memory Gardens.
   Mr. Brown died Saturday, Oct. 9, at Traylor Nursing Home in Roanoke.
   A Randolph County native, Mr. Brown was born May 2, 1912, son of Jim and Ila Cottle 
Brown.  He was a member of Five Points Methodist Church and was retired from Handley 
Mills in Roanoke.
   Survivors include his wife, Bernice Pollard Brown; one daughter, Freddie Hayes of 
LaGrange, Ga.; one son Donald Brown of Five Points; five grandchildren and nine 
great-grandchildren.
   Pallbearers were Charles Eichelberger, Leonard Brown, Don Brown, Donnie Hayes, 
David Hayes and Todd Vinson.
   Arrangements were by Quattlebaum Funeral Home, Roanoke.

Marshall Calhoun

   (WEDOWEE) Funeral services for Marshall Calhoun, 65, of Wedowee were Tuesday, 
Oct. 12, 1999, at 2 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, with the Revs. Chris Mitchell and 
Gold Cofield officiating.  Burial was in the church cemetery.
   Mr. Calhoun died Saturday, Oct. 9, at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange.
   A lifelong Randolph County resident, Mr. Calhoun was born April 10, 1934, son of 
Lonnie M. and Haughty Woodard Calhoun.  He was retired from military service and was 
a member of Calvary Baptist Church and the Randolph Square Dancing Club.
   Survivors include his wife, Jean Calhoun; two daughters, Belinda Christopher of Florida 
and Joann Calhoun of LaGrange; two sons, George Calhoun of Warner Robins, Ga., and 
Brent Calhoun of Woodland; two sisters, Novis Vowell of Florida and Mary Rowe of 
Lanett; one brother, Mack Calhoun of Lanett; and eight grandchildren.
   Pallbearers were Eddie Calhoun, Joey Calhoun, Gene Calhoun, Jeff Vowell, Terry Gay 
and Keith Rollins.
   Arrangements were by Benefield Funeral Home, Wedowee.

Landon Bruce Melson (infant)

   (NEWELL) Funeral services for Landon Bruce Melson, infant son of Landon Clyde and 
Michelle Lynn Grippin Melson of Newell, were Tuesday, Oct. 12, 1999, at 2 p.m. at 
Smyrna Baptist Church, with the Rev. Joel McLeroy officiating.  Burial was in the church 
cemetery.
   The baby was born Feb. 23 at University Hospital, Birmingham, and died Sunday, Oct. 
10, at his home following an extended illness.
   Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Landon C. Melson; grandparents, Mr. and 
Mrs. Ray Melson of LaGrange, Ga., and Mr. and Mrs. Byron Simpkins of Heflin; and one 
brother, Landon Ray Melson of Newell.

Thelma Gay White

   (WEDOWEE) Funeral services for Thelma Gay White, 82, of Wedowee, were at 2 p.m. 
Sunday, Oct. 10, 1999, at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ricky Emery 
officiating.  Burial was in the adjoining cemetery.
   Mrs. White died Friday, Oct. 8, at her son's residence in Roanoke following an extended 
illness.
   Mrs. White was a native of Randolph County, born Feb. 15, 1917, daughter of Henry 
Milford Bradley and Charlotte Kitchens Bradley.  She had retired from the textile industry 
and was a member of First Baptist Church of Wedowee.  She was preceded in death by a 
son, Albert Braska White Jr. and her husband, Albert Braska White Sr.
   Mrs. White is survived by two sons, Pete White of Wedowee and Bill White of 
Roanoke; five sisters, Hilda Giddens, Myrtis Hanson, Maurice Mitchell and Lessie 
Mitchell of Wedowee and Mary Nears of Texas; one brother, Thomas Bradley of Valley; 
14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
   Pallbearers were grandsons-in-law.
   Arrangements were by Benefield Funeral Home, Wedowee.

Billie Clyde Vinson

   (ROANOKE) Funeral services for Mrs. Billie Clyde Vinson, 75, of Roanoke were 
Tuesday, Oct. 12, 1999, at 4 p.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel, with Dr. Douglas 
Turner and the Rev. Tex Ergle officiating.  Burial was in Cedarwood Cemetery in 
Roanoke.
   Mrs. Vinson died Monday, Oct. 11, at her home following an extended illness.
   A lifelong Randolph County resident, Mrs. Vinson was born March 27, 1924, daughter 
of William W. and Minnie Clyde Alexander Dobson.  She was a homemaker and a member 
of First Baptist Church, Roanoke.  Mrs. Vinson was preceded in death by a son, Charles 
Dobson Vinson.
   Survivors include her husband, Charles Vinson of Roanoke; three daughters, Patricia 
Robinson and Linda Adamson of Roanoke and Carla Langley of LaFayette; two sons, 
Bill Vinson of Roanoke and Don Vinson of Alexander City; 10 grandchildren; 10 great- 
grandchildren; and a step-brother, Willie Pounds of LaGrange, Ga.
   Pallbearers were Jim Bo Robinson, George Robinson, Chris Langley, Todd Vinson, 
Thomas McMurray and Cam Warren.
   In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to First Baptist Church (827 Main 
Street, Roanoke, AL 36274); American Cancer Society (1599 Clifton Road NE, Atlanta, 
GA 30329); or Chattahoochee Hospice (4441 U.S. Hwy. 431, Suite A1 Roanoke, AL 
36274).
   Arrangements were by Quattlebaum Funeral Home, Roanoke.

Leonard Collier

   (GULF BREEZE, Fla.) Leonard Collier, 98, of Gulf Breeze, Fla., formerly of Lanett, 
died Saturday, Oct. 9, 1999.
   Graveside services were at 3 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 11, at Resthaven Cemetery, Lanett.  
The Rev. Jack Noble officiated.
   Mr. Collier was a native of Stroud, born Dec. 17, 1900.  He was an employee of West 
Point Pepperell for more than 40 years, where he had worked in the Lanett Bleachery & 
Dye Works as a supervisor.  He was a lifelong member of Lanett Congregational Christian 
Church.  Memorial donations may be made to his church.
   Survivors include his wife, Corrine Collier; a son, George Collier Jr. of Pace, Fla.; a 
daughter, June Collier Daniel of Pensacola, Fla.; six sisters, Ruth Bradley, Lucille 
Hoffman, Mary Will Finney, Sarah Harris and Virginia Hammontree of Roanoke and 
Beulah Mae Pearson of Sarasota, Fla.; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
   Arrangements were by Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home, Valley.

Alice Wenck

   (WADLEY) Alice Wenck, 63, of Wadley died Saturday, Oct. 9, 1999, at her residence.
   Mrs. Wenck was a Maryland native, born July 1, 1936.  She was retired textile 
employee.
   Funeral services were at Jackson Memorial Baptist Church, LaFayette, on Tuesday, Oct. 
12, at 11 a.m. with interment in LaFayette City Cemetery.  The Rev. Marc MacIntire 
officiated.
   Surviving are her husband, William Wenck of Wadley; a daughter, Linda K. Waldrop of 
Huguley; a son, Michael L. Wenck of Huguley; two brothers, Paul Redden and Ralph 
Redden of Maryland, and one sister, Cathy Sellers of LaFayette.
   Arrangements were by Jeff Jones Funeral Home, LaFayette.

Hiram Duke

   (AUGUSTA, Ga.) Hiram Duke, 68, of Augusta, Ga., died Thursday, Oct. 7, 1999, at 
University Hospital.
   The funeral was at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, at Poteet Funeral Home, Augusta, with the 
Rev. Harry L. Sims officiating.  Burial was in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
   Mr. Duke, a native of Roanoke, had retired from E.I. DuPont.  He was a member of 
Crestview Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and a clerk.
   Survivors include his wife, Pat Duke; a daughter, Teresa Duke Lanier of Augusta; two 
sisters Annie Fetner of Roanoke and Juanita Ward of LaGrange, Ga.; and a grandchild.
   Pallbearers were Charles Brown, Rocky Lovett, Danny Bain, T. W. Street, Jerry Carter 
and Dan Sumner.
   Honorary pallbearers were members of the Benefield Sunday School Class and deacons 
of Crestview Baptist Church.

William Harold Crook

   (GRAHAM) William Harold Crook Sr., 80, of Graham died Sunday Oct. 10, 1999, at 
the Department of Veterans Affairs Hospital.
   Funeral services will be 2 p.m. EDT on Wednesday, Oct. 13, at Bethlehem Campground 
Methodist Church, with the Rev. Kit Carson officiating.  Burial with full military honors 
will be in the church cemetery.
   Major Crook was born Aug. 13, 1919, in Randolph County, son of the late Emory and 
Jimmie Johnson Crook.  He was a retired major in the U.S. Army and served in the 82nd 
Airborne Division.  He was a veteran of World War II and Korea and was a member of 
Bethlehem Campground Methodist Church.
   Survivors include his wife, Margaret Crook of Graham; two sons, Edward J. Crook and 
William H. Crook Jr. of Phoenix, Ariz.; a daughter, Margarett Ingersoll of Victorville, 
Calif.; three stepdaughters, Linda Padolsky of Roswell, Ga., Kathie Weathers of Powder 
Springs, Ga., and Audrey Leppert of LaGrange, Ga.; a brother, Jack Crook of Savannah, 
Ga.; two sisters, Winnie Ramsey of Smiths and Mildred Sosebee of Atlanta; and 11 
grandchildren.

Nora B. Wright

   (ROANOKE) Nora B. Wright, 65, of Roanoke died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 1999.
   Funeral services were Saturday, Oct. 16, at 2 p.m. at East Roanoke Church of God, 
with Bishop Stephen Ackey officiating.  Burial was at Skyview Memorial Gardens.
   Mrs. Wright served faithfully as the first lady of East Roanoke Church of God for many 
years.  She was an active missionary in Alabama, Georgia and Florida.
   Survivors include her husband, Bishop Wade Wright of Roanoke; two daughters, 
Kathryn Wright Hines of Valdosta, Ga., and Barbara Jean Wright of LaGrange, Ga.; three 
sons, Elisha Wade Wright Jr. of Atlanta, Ga., Timothy Wright of Valdosta and Rodney 
Louis Wright of Roanoke; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
   Silmon Mortuary of Roanoke was in charge of arrangements.

Martha Lee Pool

   (ROANOKE) Funeral services for Martha Lee Pool, 82, of Roanoke will be at First 
Baptist Church of Roanoke at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20, 1999, with Dr. Douglas Turner 
and the Rev. Larry Armstrong officiating.  Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery.
   Mrs. Pool died Monday, Oct. 18, 1999, at Randolph County Hospital.
   A lifelong resident of Randolph County, she was born Feb. 17, 1917, daughter of 
Winston and Margaret Pitman Henry.  She had been employed in food service, was a 
nursery worker at First Baptist Church for 30 years and a member of First Baptist Church.  
She was preceded in death by her husband John Pool and a daughter, Elma Jean Hall.
   Survivors include four daughters, Frances Vaught of Forest Park, Ga., John Ellen Nix of 
Thorsby, Penny L. Pool of Selma and Ginger Dennis of Opelika; three sons, Tommy Pool 
of Americus, Ga., Billy Pool of Fairburn, Ga., and Randy Pool of Roanoke; two sisters, 
Marilena Willoughby of Smiths and Saddie Rearden of West Point, Ga.; two brothers, 
Pitman Henry of Bainbridge, Ga., and James Henry of Hayden; 19 grandchildren, 
21 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
   Mrs. Pool will lie in state at the church for one hour beginning at 1 p.m. on Wednesday.
   Quattlebaum Funeral Home of Roanoke is in charge of arrangements.

Pierce Waldrep

   (WEDOWEE) Funeral services for Pierce Waldrep, 67, of Wedowee, were at 2 p.m. 
Friday, Oct. 15, 1999, at Benefield Funeral Chapel in Wedowee with the Rev. Stanley 
Daniel and E. G. Clark officiating.  Burial followed at Lanett City Cemetery.
   Mr. Waldrep died Tuesday Oct. 12, at his residence following an extended illness.
   He was born in Randolph County on Jan. 10, 1932, son of Ronnie Nichols Waldrep and 
Ruby Coleman Waldrep.  He was a self-employed poultry farmer, was employed at Family 
Finance for 20 years, an Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict and was a member of El 
Bethel Baptist Church.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ed 
Waldrep.
   Survivors include his wife, Sue M. Waldrep of Wedowee; a son, Franklin Pierce 
Waldrep of Angleton, Texas; one sister Ruby Eddy of Riverdale, Ga.; three brothers, 
Earl Waldrep of Sarasota, Fla., Paul Waldrep of Wedowee and Coleman Waldrep of 
Carrollton, Ga.; and two grandchildren.
   Pallbearers were Mike Waldrep, Perry Waldrep, Joey Mauborgne, Jeffry Mauborgne, 
Donald Coleman and Arthur Coldwell.
   Benefield Funeral Home of Wedowee was in charge of arrangements.

Roscoe Sears

   (WOODLAND) Funeral services for Roscoe Sears, 71, of Woodland were at 2 p.m., 
Saturday, Oct. 16, 1999, at Bear Creek United Methodist Church with the Rev. Warren 
Wilder and Joey Gay officiating.  Burial followed in the adjoining church cemetery.
   Mr. Sears died Friday, October 15, at Wedowee Hospital following an extended illness.
   A lifelong resident of Randolph County, he was born April 15, 1928, son of John Albert 
and Marvin Bass Sears.  He had been employed at Lockheed Martin, was a former 
Woodland Town Councilman, and a member of Bear Creek United Methodist Church.  He 
was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Guy, Virgil, Hollis and O. D. 
Sears.
   Survivors include his wife, Janett Parker Sears of Woodland; two daughters, Margie 
Murphy of Newell and Carol Gay of Woodland; two son, Eddie Sears of Woodland and 
James Sears of Roanoke; one sister, Lurlene Gordon of Marietta, Ga.; one brother, Arnold 
Sears of Woodland; six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
   Pallbearers were O. D. Sears Jr., Steve Sears, Ronnie Sears, Jack Sears, Larry Strain, 
Dave Strain, Shane Strain, Scott Dukus and Jamie Dukus.
   Honorary pallbearers were David Sears, Matt Murphy, Mitch Murphy, Wesley Gay, 
Kody Gay and Jacob Sears.
   Benefield Funeral Home of Wedowee was in charge of arrangements.

Alice Knight Neal

   (ATLANTA, Ga.) Funeral services for Alice Knight Neal of Atlanta will be Saturday, 
Oct. 23, 1999, at 11 a.m. at Dixie Hill Baptist Church, Atlanta.
   Mrs. Neal died Friday, Oct. 15, at Piedmont Hospital after a short illness.
   She is a native of Roanoke, Ala.; daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Green Knight.
   She is survived by three daughters, Linda, Juanita and Valarie of Atlanta; two sons, 
Charles Ware of Texas and Johnny Neal of Atlanta; two sisters, Annise Nunn of Atlanta 
and Lavern Rowe of Roanoke; four brothers, Lewis, Willie, Manuel and Dallas Knight; 
three aunts; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandson.
   Arrangements are by Golsby Mortuary, Atlanta.

Hollis Zachery

   (WADLEY) Funeral services for Hollis Zachery, 77, of Wadley will be at 1 p.m. 
Thursday, Oct. 21, 1999, at Leander Baptist Church, Daviston, with the Revs. Myron 
Buchanan and Sanford Johnson officiating.  Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery.
   Mr. Zachery died Sunday, Oct. 17, at Randolph County Hospital, Roanoke.
   He is survived by his wife, Annie Mae Weaver of Wadley; six sons, Benny Perry of 
Newsite, Ronald Yates, Robert Weaver and Randy Weaver of Wadley, Patrick Weaver of 
Fort Benning, Ga., and Ray Morris; one daughter, Teresa Tucker of Wadley; three 
brothers, Larry Zachery of Sylacauga and Robert and Randy Zachery of Alexander City; 
four sisters, Gussie Bussey of Columbia, Tenn., Emma Carney of Goldenbrook, Ill., 
Geradine Moon of Sylacauga and Christine Gray of Alexander City; 11 grandchildren and 
five great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Roland and Fannie 
Zachery; his first wife, Abby Lou Zachery; and a son, Jimmy Zachery.
   Visitation will be at Clark Memorial Funeral Service, Roanoke, Wednesday, Oct. 20, 
after 10 a.m.  The body will be placed in the church one hour before the funeral service.
   Arrangements are by Clark Memorial Funeral Service, Roanoke.

Louis Roy Edwards

   (HOGANSVILLE, Ga.) Louis Roy Edwards, 51, of Hogansville, Ga., formerly of 
Franklin, Ga., died Saturday, Oct. 9, 1999, at Hospice LaGrange after several months of 
declining health.
   Mr. Edwards was born Oct. 29, 1947, in Heard County, Ga., the son of the late Rufus 
Woodrow Edwards and Mattie Lou Martin Edwards.  He was a much-loved employee of 
Franklin Aluminum Company and was a Baptist by faith.
   Funeral services were Tuesday, Oct. 12, at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Tom Stutts and 
Son Funeral Home with the Rev. Talmadge Chandler and Terry Harper officiating.  Vocal 
music selections were by Mrs. Leesa Stutts Cothran.  Pallbearers were Danny Chatman, 
Lee Edwards, Kenny Stephens, Vince Edwards, Milton Edwards and Clay Edwards.  
Honorary pallbearers were L. L. Rogers and Jimmy Pollard.
   Interment was in the Franklin City Cemetery.
   Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Patricia Irene Whaley Edwards of Hogansville; 
10 children, Tammy Huell, Heather Carson, Jennifer Carson, Tracy Cronick, Lathan 
Carson and Adam Carson, all of Corinth, Ga., Cristy O'Neal and Pattie Pilgram of 
LaGrange, Ga., Bryan Carson of Roanoke, Ala., and Michelle Tillman of Newnan Ga.; 
seven grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Fay Bowen of Franklin and two brothers, Ray 
Edwards of Franklin and C. W. White of Hopewell, Ala.

Mrs. Cary Smith

   (ALABASTER) Funeral services for Mrs. Cary Smith, 86, of Alabaster, formerly of 
Five Points, were at 11 a.m. Monday Oct. 18, 1999, at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel, with 
Elder Ben Keeble and Brother Michael Bozeman officiating.  Burial was at Mt. Pisgah 
Baptist Church cemetery.
   Mrs. Smith died Saturday, Oct. 16, at Briarcliff Nursing Home in Alabaster.
   A Chambers County native, Mrs. Smith was born Feb. 17, 1913, daughter of John 
William and Bettie Mae Lee Howell.  She was a member of Indian Springs Ward, Church 
of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  She was a former member of the Chambers County 
Homemakers Club and had been a piano instructor.  Mrs. Smith composed the words and 
music to the Five Points High School alma mata [sic - mater].  She was preceded in death 
by a brother, William Lee Howell Sr.
   Survivors include one daughter, Carolyn Berry of Alabaster; one granddaughter; six

OBITUARIES:

Thelma Waid Prince

   (ROANOKE) Funeral services for Thelma Waid Prince, 96, of Roanoke were Sunday, 
Oct. 24, 1999, at 2 p.m. at Taylor's Crossroads Church of Christ, with Bro. W. C. Cofield 
and Bro. Otis Bowen Jr. officiating.  Burial was in the church cemetery.
   Mrs. Prince died Friday, Oct. 22, at her home.
   A Cherokee County native, Mrs. Prince was born March 26, 1903, daughter of James 
W. and Mary Elizabeth Howell Waid.  She had taught in Randolph County schools for 37 
years and was a member at Taylor's Crossroads Church of Christ.  She was preceded in 
death by her husband, A. R. Prince.
   Survivors include two sons, William E. "Bill" Prince of Roanoke and James R. Prince of 
Oneonta; five grandchildren; one sister, Margaret Renoll of Auburn; one brother, Howard 
Waid of Springville; six great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
   In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to Taylor's Crossroads 
Church of Christ, 2884 County Road 79, Roanoke, AL 36274, or to Chattahoochee 
Hospice, 4441 U.S. Hwy. 431, Suite A-1, Roanoke, AL 36274.

Bonnie L. Bailey

   (MELBOURNE, Fla.) Funeral services for Bonnie L. Bailey, 94, of Melbourne, Fla., 
formerly of Randolph County, were at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 24, 1999, at Quattlebaum 
Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Barry Cosper officiating.  Burial was at Flat Rock 
Methodist Cemetery.
   Mrs. Bailey died Tuesday, Oct. 19, at Mariner Health Care in Melbourne.
   Mrs. Bailey was born Nov. 27, 1904, in Waresville, Ga., daughter of Edward and Emma 
Rice Lewis.  She was a homemaker and a Methodist.
   Survivors include a daughter, Jerelene Shimel of Melbourne; a son, James E. Bailey of 
Roanoke; a sister, Mary Meadows of LaGrange, Ga.; four brothers, Delma Lewis and 
Luther Lewis of Woodland, Quillian Lewis of Columbus, Ga., and George Lewis of 
Smiths; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
   Arrangements were by Quattlebaum Funeral Home, Roanoke.
