OBITUARIES:

Annie Cathryn Breed

   (ROANOKE) Services for Annie Cathryn Breed, 80, of Roanoke were Saturday, 
Nov. 2, 2002, at noon at Rock Mills Baptist Church, with the Revs. Frank Sledge and 
Frank Foster officiating.  Burial was at Randolph Memory Gardens.
   Miss Breed died Thursday, Oct. 31, in Huntsville.
   A Randolph County native, Miss Breed was born May 25, 1922, daughter of Richard 
Avery and Willie Lee Cooper Breed.  She was a member of Rock Mills Baptist Church 
and had worked at Wehadkee Yarn Mills.
   Survivors include one sister, Lillie Mae Breed Martin and husband Luther of Phenix 
City; a sister-in-law, Nellie Breed of Rock Mills; one brother, Harold A. "Bill" Breed and 
wife Evelyn of Rock Mills; a brother-in-law, Jim Williams of Huntsville; four nephews, 
one niece and one aunt, Lillie Cooper of Rock Mills.
   Pallbearers were Rick Williams, Tim Williams, Jim Williams, Bill Breed, Luther Martin 
and Scott Gambrell.
   Arrangements were Quattlebaum Funeral Home, Roanoke.

Annie Ruth Foster

   (ROANOKE) Annie Ruth Foster, 64, of Roanoke died Friday, Nov. 1, 2002, at George 
H. Lanier Memorial Hospital, Valley.
   Services were at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 5, at Sweet Home Baptist Church, Five 
Points, with the Rev. Charlie H. Carlisle and Bishop Gregory Foster officiating.  Interment 
was in the church cemetery.
   Survivors include her husband, Eddie B. Foster Jr. of Roanoke; three sons, Bishop 
Gregory Foster of Greensboro, N.C., and Paul Foster and Anthony Foster of Roanoke; 
four daughters, Mrs. Shirley Magby, Ms. Catherine Glenn and Mrs. Rene Goss of 
Roanoke and Mrs. Michelle Hall of Okinowa [sic], Japan; one brother, Cartine Glenn of 
Tucson, Ariz.; one sister, Mrs. Sharon Glenn Wright of Roanoke; and 15 grandchildren.
   Mrs. Foster was born in Roanoke to the late John Wesley and Gladys Boyd Glenn.  She 
was preceded in death by both parents and three of her siblings: John Glenn, Ocie Lee 
Glenn and Arie Pearl Lee.  She grew up in the Stroud community and at an early age 
joined Sweet Home Baptist Church.  Mrs. Foster worked as a textile worker for 
Wehadkee Yarn Mills for 15 years.  Declining health caused her to limit her activities 
and subsequently led to her confinement in the nursing home.
   Arrangements were by Clark Memorial Funeral Service, Roanoke.

Jack T. Miles

   (NEWELL) Services for Jack T. Miles, 93, of Newell were Monday, Nov. 4, 2002, at 
2 p.m. at Cavers Grove Congregational Christian Church, with the Revs. Gordon Taylor, 
Stanley Yarbrough and Phillip Waites officiating.  Burial was in the church cemetery.
   Mr. Miles died Saturday, Nov. 2, at his residence.
   A Randolph County native, Mr. Miles was born Dec. 31, 1908, son of Walt and Ellen 
Hadley Miles.  He was a member of Cavers Grove Congregational Christian Church and 
had served as a deacon for more than 50 years.  He also worked in road maintenance with 
the State of Alabama.
   Mr. Miles was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Katha Miles.
   Survivors include his wife, Clara Norred Miles; four grandchildren; six great- 
grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
   Pallbearers were Jack Mize, Bill Nelson, Junior McCain, Nelson McCain, Tim Smith and 
James Wilder.
   Arrangements were by Benefield Funeral Home, Wedowee.

Geneva Marie Brumbeloe Moore

   (ROANOKE) Services for Geneva Marie Brumbeloe Moore, 84, of Roanoke, were 
Sunday, Nov. 3, 2002, at 2 p.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel, with Bro. Gerald Romine 
officiating.  Burial was at Friendship Christian Church Cemetery.
   Mrs. Moore died Friday, Nov. 1, at Hospice LaGrange.
   A Randolph County native, Mrs. Moore was born June 19, 1918, daughter of Warner E. 
and Portia Kirby Brumbeloe.  She was a member of Roanoke Church of Christ and had 
worked as a seamstress at Palm Beach.
   Mrs. Moore was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Floyd Moore; a daughter, 
Loretta Moore Rollins, and a great-grandson, Hulan Kyle Rollins.
   Survivors include one sister, Myrtie B. Clark of Roanoke; two grandchildren; two 
great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter, and several nieces and nephews.
   Pallbearers were deacons of Roanoke Church of Christ.
   The family requests memorial donations be made to Hospice LaGrange.
   Arrangements were by Quattlebaum Funeral Home, Roanoke.

Hanzel Ray Strain

   (ROANOKE) Services for Hanzel Ray Strain, 69, of Roanoke were Saturday, Nov. 1, 
2002, at 2 p.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with Bro. Edward Herren officiating.  
Burial followed at Liberty Grove Methodist Church Cemetery.
   Mr. Strain died Friday, Nov. 1, at Roanoke Health Care.
   A lifelong Randolph County resident, Mr. Strain was born Jan. 6, 1933, son of Kwan 
and Lois McCarter Strain.  He worked with Handley Mills.
   Survivors include his wife, Abigail Shelnutt Strain of Roanoke; one daughter, Rhonda 
Strain of Roanoke; one son, Marty Strain of Roanoke; two sisters, Sybil Spears of West 
Point, Ga., and Evelyn Harlin of Savannah, Ga.
   Pallbearers were Barrett Shelnutt, Ed Shelnutt, J. R. Johnson, Kevin Johnson, Lendell 
Williamson and Andy Gray.
   Memorials may be floral or donations to Liberty Grove Cemetery Fund.
   Arrangements were by Quattlebaum Funeral Home, Roanoke.

Tommy Brewer

   (ROANOKE) Services for Tommy Brewer, 75, of Roanoke were Saturday, Nov. 2, 
2002, at 2 p.m. at Center Chapel Baptist Church with the Revs. Jody Overton and Randy 
Dunlap officiating.  Burial followed at Randolph Memory Gardens.
   Mr. Brewer died Thursday, Oct. 31, at West Georgia Medical Center.
   A Randolph County native, Mr. Brewer was born Jan. 8, 1927, son of Robert Winston 
and Vena Letisha Blackwelder Brewer.  Mr. Brewer was a member of Center Chapel 
Baptist Church, a World War II Army veteran and had worked in the twister room with 
Handley Mills and Candlewick.
   Mr. Brewer was preceded in death by his parents, Robert "Went" and Vena Brewer, a 
daughter, Mary Alice Brewer, and a grandson, Chad Pike.
   Survivors include his wife, Alice Mae Lashley Brewer of Roanoke; two daughters, 
Janice Cox of Roanoke and Linda Frosolono of Newnan, Ga.; two sons, Freddy Wayne 
Brewer of Wadley and Mike Brewer of Roanoke; one sister, Barnell Smith of Fort 
Lauderdale, Fla.; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
   Pallbearers were Kenneth Brewer, Keith Brewer, Chris Cox, Steven Sledge, Cory 
Brewer, Alan Williams, Chuck Smith and Chris Webb.
   Arrangements were by Quattlebaum Funeral Home, Roanoke.

Ethel Mae Maddox

   (LAGRANGE, Ga.) Ethel Mae Maddox, 94, of LaGrange, Ga., died Monday, Oct. 28, 
2002, at Florence Hand Home.
   Mrs. Maddox, born May 19, 1908, in Sewell, Ala., was the daughter of the late Henry 
and Laura Calhoun.  She was a devoted Christian, loving mother, wife and grandmother.  
Mrs. Maddox's life was a testimony and inspiration to all, and she was a very active 
member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church most of her adult life.
   Survivors include three daughters, Linda Brown of LaGrange, Dot Conner Kirst of 
Lodi, Calif. and Ruth Burris of Columbia, Ill.; a son, Jimmy Maddox of LaGrange; seven 
grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. 
Nellie Sikes of Wedowee; a brother, Crawford Calhoun of Woodland; three sons-in-law 
and a daughter-in-law.
   Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church with 
the Rev. Olin White officiating.  Burial was in Shadowlawn Cemetery.
   Arrangements were by Hunter-Allen-Myhand Funeral Home, LaGrange.

Seth Lee Miller

   (TALLADEGA) Services for Seth Lee Miller, 18, of Talladega will be at 2 p.m. 
Monday, Nov. 4, 2002, at First Baptist Church with Dr. Rob Paul and the Rev. Jeff 
Rutledge officiating.  Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery.
   Mr. Miller died Friday, Nov. 1, in Chambers County in an automobile accident.
   Survivors include his mother, Susan Mock of Talladega; father, Allen Miller of 
Talladega; a sister, Meredith Smith of Talladega; a nephew; three grandparents, Judy 
Mock, and Ray and Mary Ann Miller, all of Talladega; three great-grandparents, Eloise 
Burgess, Myrtle Mock, and Jewell Miller, all of Talladega.
   Pallbearers were David White, Chad Jones, Shay Jones, Jason Peters, Jarred Hanner, 
Chris Freeman, Brandon Endress and Matthew Carr.
   Honorary pallbearers were the Talladega 2001-2002 football and baseball team and 
coaches and the Southern Union State Junior College baseball team and coaches.
   Mr. Miller was a native and life-long resident of Talladega.  He was a member of First 
Baptist Church and attended Grace Community Church in Stockdale, where he was very 
active in its music program.  Mr. Miller was a 2002 graduate of Talladega High School 
where he lettered in all sports.  He was attending Southern Union State Community 
College in Wadley on a baseball scholarship.  He also was a member of the Fellowship of 
Christian Athletes.

Clara Eva Pettus Birmingham

   (ALEXANDRIA) Services for Clara Eva Pettus Birmingham, 80, of Alexandria were 
Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, at 2 p.m. at Chapel Hill Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. 
Mike Owens and Ronnie Moore officiating.  Burial was in Anniston Memorial Gardens.
   Mrs. Birmingham died Tuesday, Oct. 29, at home.
   Survivors include two daughters, Eva "Jean" Ford Moncus of Cragford and Virginia 
"Jenny" Lambert of Saks; two step-daughters, Louise Birmingham of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., 
and Geraldine Crendall; seven step-sons, Henry Birmingham of Houston, Jerry Pettus of 
Anniston, Kenneth Pettus of Oxford, Blake Pettus of Korea, Scott Pettus of Florida, and 
Bobby Ford and Thomas Ford of Washington; two sisters, Cora Bell Dykes of Huber 
Heights, Ohio, and Evelyn Whatley of Alexandria; four brothers, Bill Turley of Heflin, 
Duke and R. C. Turley of Oxford, and Dave Turley of Blue Mountain; and five 
grandchildren.
   Pallbearers were Colt Turner, Steve Butcher, Brian Duke, Jerry Willet, Carl Burtham, 
Grover Whatley, Joseph Poore and Christopher Poore.
   Mrs. Birmingham was a native of Randolph County and resident of Calhoun County for 
many years.  She was a member of Leatherwood Baptist Church and retired from K-Mart.
   In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Leatherwood Baptist Church.

Wesley Ramsey

   (PELL CITY) Services for Wesley Ramsey, 18, of Pell City were Monday, Nov. 4, 
2002, at 2 p.m. at Eden New Hope Baptist Church, with the Rev. Mike Ramsey and the 
Rev. Paul Brasher officiating.  Burial was in Eden New Hope Cemetery.
   Mr. Ramsey died Friday, Nov. 1.  A lifelong resident of Pell City and 2002 graduate of 
Pell City High School, he was very active in Pell City youth baseball programs growing 
up.  He was on the 1992 Pell City team that won the state championship, and played all 
four years at Pell City High School, where he was awarded a Most Valuable Player Award 
and pitched two no-hitters.  Following graduation, he won a baseball scholarship to 
Southern Union State Community College.  He attended Eden New Hope Baptist Church.
   He is survived by his parents, Steve and Cathy Ramsey of Pell City; his brother, Cory 
Ramsey of Pell City; his grandparents, Hansel and Sybil Ramsey, Bill and Stella Barker, 
and Faye and Hobart Colley, all of Pell City; his great-grandmother, Audrey Wright of Pell 
City; a niece and several aunts and uncles.
   Arrangements were by Kilgroe Funeral Home, Pell City.

Bertha Mae Holloway

   (LINEVILLE) Services for Bertha Mae Holloway, 85, of Lineville, formerly of 
Wedowee, will be Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2002, at 2 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, 
with the Revs. Dorsey White, Phillip Johnson, Tommy Burke and Scott Blake officiating.  
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
   Mrs. Holloway died Monday, Nov. 4, at Clay County Hospital.
   A Chambers County native, Mrs. Holloway was born Feb. 28, 1917, daughter of Bud 
and Fannie Whaley Harmon.  She was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.
   Mrs. Holloway was preceded in death by her husband, Newmon Holloway; two sons, 
Wallace and Jackie Holloway; and a great-grandson, Nickolas Waldrop.
   Survivors include two daughters, Imogene Colwell of Heflin and Jelima Adamson of 
Lineville; four sons, Sanford Holloway, Marion Holloway and Buddy Holloway of 
Woodland and Carey Holloway of Rock Mills; one sister, Fannie Dell Traylor of 
Woodland; two brothers, I. D. Harmon of Woodland and James Harmon of Roanoke; 
12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
   Pallbearers will be Jackie Whaley, Chuck Holloway, Brian Holloway, Kenneth 
Holloway, Jimmy Price and Norman Stewart.  Honorary pallbearers will be Pete Whaley, 
H. S. Whaley and Junior Taylor.

OBITUARIES:

Wilma West Harrod

   (BOWDON, Ga.) Wilma West Harrod, 93, of Bowdon, Ga., died Sunday, Nov. 10, 
2002.
   She was born in Gilmer County, Ga., on July 19, 1909, daughter of the late Jonathan 
and Maggie Pence West.  Mrs. Harrod was the oldest member of Shiloh Baptist Church, 
Graham, and was a retired school teacher from Carroll County Board of Education.
   She was preceded in death by her husband, Olin Harrod, on June 3, 1983, a sister, 
Jewell Mize; brothers Spurgeon West, Royal West and Emmett West; and a great- 
grandchild, Jake Simpson.
   Survivors include sons John Harrod of Bowdon and Emmett Harrod of the Ephesus 
community; daughters Shelby Green and Margaret Abrams of Woodland; 
10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, and a brother, William G. West of 
Corcoran, Calif.
   Services were Tuesday, Nov. 12, at 3 p.m. EST at Shiloh Baptist Church, with the Rev. 
Tony Morris and the Rev. G. W. Burson officiating.  The church choir and Tony and Jane 
Morris furnished the music.  Grandsons served as pallbearers, and grandson-in-law served 
as honorary escort.  Interment was in the church cemetery.
   Arrangements were by Rainwater-West Funeral Home, Bowdon.

Aline Smith

   (LAFAYETTE) Aline Smith, 77, of LaFayette died Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002, at East 
Alabama Medical Center.
   Mrs. Smith was born in Wedowee on Nov. 16, 1924.  She was retired from Dr. Israel's 
office and was a member of Ava Methodist Church.
   Services were at Jeff Jones Funeral Home, LaFayette, at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 
12, with burial in Ava Methodist Church Cemetery, Wedowee.  The Rev. Gary Henderson 
officiated.
   Survivors include her husband, Dewey Smith of LaFayette; three sons, Dewey Lamar 
Smith of Carrollton, Ga., Harry Smith of Germany and Kenneth Edward Smith of 
LaFayette; four brothers, Guy Sikes of Oxford, Coleman Sikes of Auburn, Stanley Sikes 
of Wedowee and Carey Sikes of Anniston; two sisters, Catherine Parkerson and Montana 
Brooks of LaGrange, Ga.; seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
   In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the 
American Heart Association.
   Arrangements were by Jeff Jones Funeral Home, LaFayette.

Willie Sue Williams

   (LANETT) Willie Sue Williams, 65, of Lanett died Friday, Nov. 8, 2002, at her 
residence.
   Mrs. Williams was a native of Randolph County, born Jan. 6, 1937.  She was a former 
employee of West Point Stevens, and she enjoyed singing as a hobby.  She was a member 
of Huguley Baptist Church.
   Mrs. Williams is survived by her husband, Dolphus C. Williams; a son, Kerry Williams of 
Beulah; two sisters, Joyce Gibson of Lanett and Glynis Jackson of Valley; two brothers, 
Melton Alsabrook of Phenix City and Felton Alsabrook of Lanett; her mother, Eva 
Alsabrook of Valley; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.  She was preceded in 
death by her father, William Dawson Alsabrook, and a son, Rodney Williams.
   Services were at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley at 2 p.m. on 
Sunday, Nov. 10, with burial in Resthaven Cemetery.  The Rev. Harold Rollins and the 
Rev. Fitzgerald Brown officiated.
   Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
   Arrangements were by Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home, Valley.

Vera Ayres Lee

   (ROANOKE) Services for Vera Ayres Lee, 92, of Roanoke were Saturday, Nov. 9, 
2002, at 11 a.m. at Corinth Baptist Church with the Revs. Don Paris, Steve Dempsey and 
Tommy Burke officiating.  Burial followed in the adjoining church cemetery.
   Mrs. Lee Died Thursday, Nov. 7, at Randolph Medical Center.
   A Randolph County native, Mrs. Lee was born Oct. 18, 1910, daughter of Wilson P. 
and Millie White Ayres.  She was a member of Corinth Baptist Church.
   Survivors include one daughter, Millie Beth Studdard of Piedmont; one son, Spence Lee 
of Wedowee; two sisters, Louise Daniel of Newell and Era Greene of Anniston; three 
grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
   Pallbearers were Chad Lee, Steve Cotney, Barry Johnson, Billy P. Ayres, Hughett 
Williams and Jerry Huddleston.
   Memorials may be floral or the family requests donations to Corinth Cemetery Fund.

Annie Laurie Ware McCormick

   (ATLANTA, Ga.) Annie Laurie Ware McCormick, 77, of Atlanta died Saturday, 
Nov. 2, 2002.
   Services were Saturday, Nov. 9, at 1 p.m. at Welcome Friend Baptist Church, Atlanta, 
with Dr. John H. Smith officiating.  Burial was in Kennedy International Memorial 
Garden, Ellenwood, Ga.
   Mrs. McCormick was a native of Roanoke, born April 1, 1925, daughter of the late John 
Wesley and Leman Ware.  She was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church here, later 
joining Welcome Friend Baptist Church in Atlanta where she served as Sunday school 
secretary and worked on the Usher Board, Willing Workers Club, Baptist Training Union, 
Missionary Ministry and the Mothers Board.  She also volunteered at Oakhurst 
Elementary School, where she was a counselor.
   Surviving are a daughter, Gloria Range of Decatur, Ga.; a son, James Wesley 
McCormick of Decatur; two brothers, Grady Ware of Alexander City and Roosevelt Ware 
of Roanoke; one sister, Sally Ruth Slay of LaGrange, Ga.; two grandchildren; four great- 
grandchildren; two adopted grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  
She was preceded in death by her husband, James McCormick.
   Arrangements were by Pollard Funeral Home, Atlanta.

Denver Sherrer

   (ASHLAND) Services for Denver Sherrer, 73, of Ashland were Friday, Nov. 8, 2002, at 
10 a.m. at Clay County Funeral Home with the Revs. Zenus Windsor and Timmy Tipton 
officiating.  Burial was in Clay County Memory Gardens.
   Mr. Sherrer died Wednesday, Nov. 6, at Clay County Hospital.
   Survivors include his wife, Mavis Buchanan Sherrer of Ashland; a daughter, Donna 
Rose Suggs of Ashland; a son, Kim Jason Sherrer of Oxford; a sister, Arizona Prather of 
Alexander City; a brother, Clemon Sherrer of Alexander City; and three grandchildren.
   Pallbearers were Leon Morris, Roy Saxon, Bill Fargason, Paul Harry, Keith Harry and 
David Sherrer.  Honorary pallbearers were members of the board of directors of 
Tallapoosa River Electric Co-op.
   Mr. Sherrer was a native of Randolph County and had lived in Clay County most of his 
life.  He was retired from the grocery business, where he had been a meat cutter.  He 
received his associate degree from Southern Union State Junior College and had been 
director of the Tallapoosa River Electric Co-op for 24 years.  He was a Korean War 
veteran and a Baptist.

Earline Brown

   (HOGANSVILLE, Ga.) Earline B. Brown, 64, of Hogansville, Ga., died Monday, 
Nov. 4, 2002, at her home.
   Born Jan. 11, 1938, in Randolph County, Ala., Mrs. Brown was the daughter of the late 
Florence Bowen and the late Mary Prestridge Bowen Hunter.  She had lived in 
Hogansville for 45 years and was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Hogansville.
   Survivors include a daughter, Susan Brown; three sons, Richard Brown, David Brown 
and Brad Brown, all of Hogansville; a half-brother, Woodrow W. Hunter Jr. of Piedmont, 
S.C.; a step-sister, Patricia Parker of Cathlamet, Wash.; and three grandchildren.
   Funeral services were Wednesday, Nov. 6, at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Claude A. 
McKibben and Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. R. C. Prescott officiating.  Interment 
was in Myrtle Hill Cemetery.

Jeannette Welborn

   (LAGRANGE, Ga.) Jeannette Welborn, 79, of LaGrange, Ga., died Friday, Nov. 8, 
2002, at the Brian Center Nursing Care.
   Mrs. Welborn, born Feb. 15, 1923, in Rock Mills, was the daughter of the late Grady 
and Ethyl Meachum Bailey.  She was a member of Southwest Baptist Church and was 
retired from Milliken and Company.  Her favorite hobbies included baking, sewing, and 
attending to her garden.
   Survivors include a daughter, Judy Welborn; two sons, Jim Welborn and Stan Welborn, 
all of LaGrange; a granddaughter and a great-granddaughter; three sisters, Mrs. Marie 
Bradley and Mrs. Barnelle Nix of Rock Mills and Patricia Willowby of Acworth, Ga.; four 
brothers, Durward Bailey, Quinton Bailey, Junior Bailey and Douglas Bailey, all of Rock

Funeral Home with the Revs. Wayne Hester and Fred Buchanan officiating.  Burial was in 
Restlawn Memory Gardens.

of Mrs. Welborn.

Earl Prescott

   (HOGANSVILLE, Ga.) Earl Prescott, 93, of Hogansville, Ga., died Sunday, Nov. 10, 
2002, at Franklin Healthcare Center.
   Mr. Prescott, born June 16, 1909, in Randolph County, Ala., was the son of the late 
Robert Alvin Prescott and the late Mary Rice Prescott.  He had lived in Hogansville since 
1959, was a member of the Baptist faith and was retired from the Dunson Division of 
West Point Pepperell Manufacturing Company.
   Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Bessie Holloway Prescott; a son, William Prescott of 
Hogansville; a daughter, Faye Prescott of Fernandina Beach, Fla.; a grandson; and several 
nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by a daughter, Elizabeth Prescott.
   Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, at the graveside in Hillview East 
Cemetery with the Rev. Jesse Sims officiating.
   Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Hogansville Senior Center in 
memory of Mr. Prescott.

Garry Wayne Foster

   (WEDOWEE) Services for Garry Wayne foster, 51, of Wedowee were Saturday, 
Nov. 9, 2002, at 2 p.m. at Benefield Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Carlos Lamar Gentry 
officiating.  Burial followed at Valley Grove Cemetery.
   Mr. Foster died Friday, Nov. 8, at Wedowee Hospital.
   A native of Clay County, Mr. Foster was born March 11, 1951, son of Ezra Gay and 
Ivey Yarbrough Foster.  He was a school bus driver for more than 20 years for the 
Randolph County School System.
   Mr. Foster is survived by his wife, Janice Eden Foster; his children, Buddy Tolbert of 
Lineville, Stephanie Goodman of Heflin and Tammy Strain, Thad Foster and Kimberly 
Foster of Wedowee; three brothers, Owell Foster of Bowdon, Ga., Joel Foster of 
Wedowee, and Doyle Foster of Anniston and five grandchildren.
   Pallbearers were Robbie Taylor, Brian Foster, Wayne Strain, Jr. Strain, Terry Eden and 
Terry Sheppard.

   (WOODLAND) Graveside services for Lucette Bodart Wells, 76, of Woodland,

   Mrs. Wells died Thursday, Nov. 7, at Wedowee Hospital.
   A native of Morialme, Belgium, Mrs. Wells was born Nov. 18, 1925, daughter of Henry 
and Denise Bodart.
   Survivors include three daughters, Constance Shafer of Newell, Vickie Moore of Elberta 
and Marian Grizzard of Ranburne; two sisters of Belgium; four grandchildren and one 
great-grandchild.
   Pallbearers were family.

   (ALEXANDER CITY) Funeral services for Russell Pike, 72, of Alexander City were at 
2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2002, at Radney Funeral Home Chapel.  Mr. Don McClellan, 
Dr. Kenneth Bullard and the Rev. Emerson Ware officiated.  Burial was at Hillview 
Memorial Park.
   Mr. Pike died Sunday, Nov. 10, at Russell Medical Center.  He was born Oct. 14, 1930, 
in Chambers County to Russell Pike Sr. and Mary Fannie Cosley Pike.  He worked as a 
supervisor for Russell Corp. for 22 years and was a veteran, having served in the Korean 
Conflict.  He was a member of Sixth Street Baptist Church.
   He is survived by his wife, Jane McClellan Pike of Alexander City; two daughters, Patsy 
Pike Flourney of Pell City and Pamela Pike of Alexander City; one son, Jason Pike of 
Alexander City, four grandchildren; two sisters, Jeanette Watwood of Tallassee and 
Lemerle Sims of Roanoke; one brother-in-law and one sister-in-law.

Bobby Musick

   (CAMP HILL) Services for Bobby Musick, 64, of Camp Hill were at 11 a.m. Tuesday, 
Nov. 12, 2002, at Pentecost United Methodist Church.  The Revs. Wallace Mann and 
Steve Moore officiated.  Burial was in the church cemetery.
   Mr. Musick died Saturday, Nov. 9.  He was born Jan. 22, 1938.  He served two years in 
the Korean Conflict and four years in the U.S. Navy.  He was a carpenter for 30 years.
   He is survived by his wife, Annie Musick of Camp Hill; two sons, Randy Musick of 
Camp Hill and Bobby Dean Musick of Wadley; one brother, Donald Musick of Lanett; 
two sisters, Stella Faye Bassett and Dolly Johns, both of Mobile; and five grandchildren.  
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Laura Musick, and two brothers, 
Jimmy and Elmer Musick.

Mary Jim Bonner

   (ROCK MILLS) Services for Mary Jim Bonner, 77, of Rock Mills were Friday, 
Nov. 15, 2002, at 11 a.m. at Rock Mills United Methodist Church with the Rev. James 
Harper officiating.  Burial followed at Randolph Memory Gardens.
   Mrs. Bonner died Wednesday, Nov. 13, at Hospice LaGrange following an extended 
illness.
   A lifelong Randolph County resident, Mrs. Bonner was born Aug. 31, 1925, daughter of 
James R. and Merla Ray Lane.  She was a member of Rock Mills United Methodist 
Church and had been employed with Palm Beach Company.
   Survivors include her husband, Gaines Laurice Bonner of Rock Mills; a son, Ronnie 
Bonner of LaFayette; three grandchildren; and a great-grandson; and a sister, Dorothy 
Linville of Denver, Colo.
   Memorials may be floral or the family suggests contributions to Hospice LaGrange, 
1510 Vernon Rd., LaGrange, GA 30240.

Rufus B. Yates

   (AUBURN) Services for Rufus B. Yates, 78, of Auburn were Monday, Nov. 18, 2002, 
at 10 a.m. at Jeffcoat-Trant Chapel, Opelika, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery, 
Montgomery.  The Revs. John Dale Rector and Larry Armstrong officiated.
   Mr. Yates died Saturday, Nov. 16, in Auburn.
   Mr. Yates was born on Oct. 2, 1924, in Wedowee.  He was a member and Sunday 
school teacher at Lake View Baptist Church, Auburn, and also served as an active deacon 
and Sunday school teacher for many years at Eastern Hills Baptist Church of 
Montgomery.  He was a World War II veteran who served in the U.S. Navy.
   Mr. Yates is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Clara Yates of Auburn; one 
daughter, Janet Wilson of Auburn; one brother, Robert C. Yates of Wedowee; and 
two granddaughters.
   The family suggests that memorial donations may be directed to Bethany House of East 
Alabama Medical Center, 1171 Gatewood Drive, Auburn, AL 36830 or the American 
Cancer Society.

   (MONTGOMERY) Services for Margaret Wahneta McCollough, 79, of Montgomery,

Church of Christ with Bro. Gerald Romine officiating.  Burial followed in the adjoining 
cemetery.
   Miss McCollough died Thursday, Nov. 14, at Baptist Medical Center East in 
Montgomery.
   Miss McCollough was a Randolph County native, born April 6, 1923, daughter of Jody 
Wilburn and Lois McManus McCollough.  She was a member of Pine Hill Church of 
Christ.  Miss McCollough was preceded in death by two sisters, Jane Cosper and Dorothy 
Smith, and two brothers, Arnold and Jimmy McCollough.
   Survivors include two sisters, Julia McCollough and Dean Jordan of Montgomery; and 
two brothers, Lance McCollough of Newell and Joe McCollough of Montgomery.
   Pallbearers were Michael Jordan, Timothy McCollough, Nelson McCollough, Wilburn 
McCollough, Mark McCollough and Jeffery McCollough.

Bernard Johnson

   (DECATUR, Ga.) Services for Bernard Johnson, 38, of Decatur, Ga., were Sunday, 
Nov. 17, 2002, at 2 p.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church in Roanoke with the Rev. Myris 
Bell, pastor, officiating.  Burial was in the adjoining cemetery.
   Mr. Johnson died Thursday, Nov. 14, at Emory University Hospital in Decatur.
   Mr. Johnson was born March 4, 1964 to the late James Aaron Johnson and Lorenia Bell 
Johnson.  He grew up in the Atlanta area, where he graduated high school and attended 
college.  During his youth, Mr. Johnson took pride in being a member of the ROTC at 
Hope High School.  After college, he remained in the Atlanta area, where he was a 
dedicated employee of Pinkerton-Burns Security until his passing.  Mr. Johnson was a 
member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church and the Fraternal Order of Police, Atlanta.
   Survivors include two brothers, Larry James Johnson of Atlanta and Ronald Aaron 
Johnson of Fairburn, Ga.; one sister, Evelyn Johnson Rollie of Palmetto, Ga.; four uncles, 
including John C. Bell and Leroy Bell of Roanoke; three aunts, two nephews and two 
nieces.

   (ROANOKE) Services for Vera Laverne Daniel, 45, of Roanoke, formerly of LaGrange,

   Ms. Daniel died Friday, Nov. 15, at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange.
   Ms. Daniel was a native of Troup County, Ga., born July 6, 1957, daughter of Thomas 
F. Barrett and Betty Lee Presley Barrett.  She was preceded in death by her father.
   Ms. Daniel is survived by her mother and stepfather, Betty Barrett Ferrell and Jasper

   The baby died Wednesday, Nov. 13, at Randolph Medical Center.

   He is survived by his mother, Trevious Foster of Roanoke; his father, Undrell Burkes of 
Roanoke; two sisters, Naomi Burkes and Monique Harris of Roanoke; a brother, Maquan 
Burkes of Roanoke; two grandmothers, Betty Jean Dozier and Barbara Johnson of

   Mrs. Sutton died Thursday, Nov. 14, at Cleburne County Nursing Home.
   Mrs. Sutton was a homemaker.
   Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Margie and Therman Whitmore of 
Oxford and Mary Sue Hoy of Denton, Texas; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren 
and a great-great-grandchild.

Jim Clay Fincher

   (FORT MORGAN) Jim Clay Fincher, 59, of Ft. Morgan, died at his home on Sunday, 
Nov. 10, 2002, after a brief illness.
   A native of Bessemer, Mr. Fincher was a long-time resident of Roanoke prior to moving 
to Ft. Morgan.  Earning a B.A. and J.D. degrees from the University of Alabama, Mr. 
Fincher was a practicing lawyer at the time of his death.
   Survivors include a son, Allen Clay Fincher, and two grandchildren of Henderson, Nev.
   Pine Rest Funeral Home in Foley was in charge of cremation arrangements.  Mr. Fincher 
will be memorialized at his home in a private service on Friday, Nov. 22.

Paul Beebe Ward

   (BRANDON, Fla.) Services for Paul Beebe Ward, 90, of Brandon, Fla., formerly of 
Roanoke, were Saturday, Nov. 23, 2002, at 1 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 
Roanoke, with the Rev. Tex Ergle and Dr. Bill Phares officiating.  Burial was in 
Cedarwood Cemetery.
   Mr. Ward died Wednesday, Nov. 20, at Brandon Regional Hospital in Brandon.
   A native of Oakland, Calif., Mr. Ward was born March 3, 1912, son of Lawrence [and] 
Nellie Beebe Ward.  He was an electrical engineer with Alabama Company and a World 
War II Army veteran.  He was a member of Roanoke First United Methodist Church.
   Mr. Ward was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Dorothy Mae Ward, and a brother, 
Franklin Ward.
   Survivors include one son, Al Ward of Valrico, Fla.; one granddaughter; one sister, 
Grace Anderson of Davidson, N.C.; and a sister-in-law, Martha Ward of Davis, Calif.

   Elder Estes died Wednesday, Nov. 20, at Brookwood Hospital in Birmingham.
   A Chambers County native, Elder Estes was born Aug. 25, 1934, son of John Thomas 
and Naomi Carter Estes.  He was a member of Rocky Mountain Primitive Baptist Church 
and had worked as a safety engineer with USF & G Company.
   Survivors include his wife, Nellie Wayne Avery Estes; two sons, Charles B. Estes of 
Lafayette, Ga., and Cary Estes of Birmingham; one sister, Mary Frances Estes of Center; 
three brothers, John Thomas Estes of Tequesta, Fla., Raymond Lee Estes of Ocala, Fla., 
and William Malvin Estes of Birmingham; and two grandchildren.

Franklin D. Daniel

   (WEDOWEE) Franklin D. Daniel, 69, of Wedowee died Sunday, Nov. 17, 2002, at 
Shelby Baptist Medical Center, Alabaster.
   Services were at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Wedowee, on Saturday, Nov. 23, at 
noon, with the Rev. Henry Sterling officiating.  Interment was in the church cemetery.
   Born Sept. 13, 1913, Mr. Daniel was a native of Randolph County.  He was employed 
at Wade Sand and Gravel in Jemison.  He was preceded in death by two sons, Michael and 
James Alfred Daniel.
   He is survived by his wife, Nellie Ruth Daniel of Wedowee; one son, Johnny Ray Daniel 
of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two daughters, Patsy Choppala of Temple, Ga., and Mary 
Williams of Portland, Ore.; three brothers, Thomas Daniel of Lansing, Mich., John Daniel 
of Wedowee and James Daniel of Wadley; three sisters, Sophia McMiller and Rachel 
Province of New Orleans, La., and Lillie Mae Harris of Cincinnati, Ohio; 
14 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, 
cousins and other relatives and friends.

   A native of Dekalb County, Ga., Mr. Dobson was born Dec. 13, 1938, son of Faustine 
C. and Willie Brand Dobson.  He was a heavy equipment operator and a veteran of the 
U.S. Army.
   Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Willie B. Waldrop and Paul Waldrop of 
Wedowee; a daughter, Paula Dobson of Jackson, Ga.; five sons, David Dobson of 
Murphreesboro [Murfreesboro], Tenn., Brad Dobson and Tony Dobson of Hartwell, Ga., 
and Kenny Dobson and Christopher Dobson of Griffin, Ga.; two sisters, Carolyn Clampitt 
of Eaton, Ga. and Patricia Mooney of Stockbridge, Ga.; one brother, Robert Dobson of 
Woodland; and six grandchildren.

Arthur Breedlove

   (VALLEY) Arthur Breedlove, 83, of Valley died Thursday, Nov. 21, 2002, at his 
residence.
   Funeral services were Sunday, Nov. 24, at 3 p.m. EST at Johnson Brown-Service 
Funeral Home Chapel in Valley with Dr. Jerome King and the Rev. Jeff Edwards 
officiating.  Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery.
   Mr. Breedlove is survived by his wife, Mrs. Sallie I. Breedlove; his daughter, Reba Jane 
Melton of Indianapolis, Ind.; two sons, David Arthur Breedlove of Valley and Kenneth 
Mark Breedlove of Wedowee; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and several 
nieces and nephews.
   Born May 21, 1919, in Harris County, Ga., Mr. Breedlove was a veteran of World War 
II where he served with the U.S. Army Infantry.  He had retired from West Point 
Pepperell's Shawmut Mill after 43 years of service.  Mr. Breedlove was a member of 
Shawmut First Baptist Church, the American Lion Post No. 67, and the Chattahoochee 
Valley Historical Society.
   Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Shawmut First Baptist 
Building Fund or to Chattahoochee Hospice in his memory.

Brooksie Albright Pike

   (LAGRANGE, Ga.) Brooksie A. Pike, 83, died Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2002, at West 
Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange.
   Mrs. Pike was born May 23, 1919, in Newell, Ala., the daughter of the late John 
LaFayette and Nancy Butler Albright.  She was a beautician with "Hollywood Beauty 
Shop" for 41 years before her retirement and was a member of The First Baptist Church 
On the Square.
   Survivors include two sons, John P. Pike of Waycross, Ga., and David B. Pike of Stone 
Mountain, Ga.; four grandchildren and a great-grandson; and a brother, George Albright 
of Cumming, Ga.  She was preceded in death by her husband, John Barnard Pike.
   Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, in the chapel of The First Baptist 
Church On the Square with the Rev. Paul Blair officiating.  Burial was in the Shadowlawn 
Cemetery.

   (WOODLAND) Services for John Wesley Roan Jr., 81, of Woodland were Monday,

   Mr. Roan died Thursday, Nov. 21, at Bethany House Hospice in Auburn.
   Mr. Roan was a native of Tulsa, Okla., and was born Jan. 6, 1921, son of John W. Roan 
Sr. and Gladys Hatfield Roan.  He was a World War II Navy veteran, a member of Rocky 
Branch Baptist Church and a member of Wedowee Kiwanis Club.
   Mr. Roan was preceded in death by his wife, Miriam Juanita Roan, and a brother, 
William "Dub" Roan.
   Survivors include four daughters, Emily Burney of Carter, Mt., Kathy Ryan of Des 
Plaines, Ill., Pat Swenson of Stevensville, Mt., and Bonnie Hawes of Wedowee; one son, 
John Roan III of Woodland; two sisters, Jean Parris of Columbia, S.C. and Beulah

   (CARROLLTON, Ga.) Willie Jean Moore, 69, of Carrollton, Ga., died Saturday, 
Nov. 23, 2002, at her residence.
   Mrs. Moore, was born Nov. 12, 1933, in Cleburne County, daughter of the late Oliver 
and Lucy Watson Nolen.  She was retired as a seamstress with LaMar Manufacturing Co. 
and a member of Salem Baptist Church.
   Survivors include her husband, John Ray Moore of Carrollton; two brothers, Harold 
Nolen and Leroy Nolen of Heflin; two sisters, Mary Lambert of Piedmont and Adell Nolen 
of Heflin; and a number of nieces [nieces] and nephews.  She was preceded in death by 
two sisters, Pauline Nolen and Eva Ruth Spurlin; and a brother, Everett Nolen.
   Services were at 2 p.m. EST on Monday, Nov. 25, at Salem Baptist Church, with the

Hannie Kirby Williamson

   (WEDOWEE) Services for Hannie Kirby Williamson, 87, of Wedowee were Monday, 
Nov. 25, 2002, at 1 p.m. at Iduma Congregational Methodist Church, with the Rev. Billy 
East officiating.  Burial was in Valley Grove Cemetery.
   Mrs. Williamson died Sunday, Nov. 24, at Wedowee Hospital.
   Mrs. Williams[on] was a native of Randolph County, born June 10, 1915, daughter of 
Awbrey R. Kirby and Hattie Willingham Kirby.  She was a retired lunchroom worker and 
had worked at the Lineville Nursing Facility for a number of years.  She was a member of 
Iduma Congregational Methodist Church, where she had served as the church pianist.  She 
was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Williamson.
   Mrs. Williamson is survived by two daughters, Modene French of Roanoke and 
Ellowayne Prather of Dadeville; a sister Nell Reagin of Lyons, Ga.; five grandchildren and 
five great-grandchildren.
   Pallbearers were Adam Mathis, Travis Nelson Jr., Bill Thrasher, Stanley French, Steve 
Stewart and Bud Boggs.
   Arrangements were by Benefield Funeral Home, Wedowee.

Queenie Wright

   (OXFORD) Services for Queenie Wright, 82, of Oxford, formerly of Randolph County, 
were Sunday, Nov. 24, 2002, at 2 p.m. at Pine Ridge C.M.E. Church with the Rev. 
Samuel T. Garrett officiating.  Burial was in Pine Ridge Cemetery.
   Mrs. Wright died Wednesday, Nov. 20, at her home.
   Survivors include three sons, Fred Douglas Wright of Gadsden, John E. Wright of 
Oxford and Lorenzo Wright of Anniston; a sister, Gladys Akles of Graham; and 13 
grandchildren.
   Mrs. Wright was a native of Randolph County and had lived in Talladega County most 
of her life.  She was a member of Pine Ridge C.M.E. Church.  She was preceded in death 
by her husband, Rev. Jessie Wright.
   Arrangements were by Anniston Funeral Service.

Mary Evelyn Sheppard

   (LAGRANGE, Ga.) Mary Evelyn Sheppard, 78, of LaGrange, Ga., died Saturday, 
Nov. 23, 2002, at Forence [Florence] Hand Home in LaGrange.
   Funeral services were Monday, Nov. 25, at 2 p.m. at Hunter-Allen-Myhand Chapel in 
LaGrange with the Revs. Kevin Buttrum and Chris Yarbrough officiating.  Burial follows 
[followed] in Restlawn Memory Gardens.
   Mrs. Sheppard is survived by her husband, Albert H. Sheppard of LaGrange; two 
daughters, Iris Adams of LaFayette and Norma Williams of Buchanan, Ga.; two sons, 
Ronald Yarbrough of LaGrange and Donald Yarbrough of Lanett; 10 grandchildren and 
12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Vivian Johnson of Lanett and Edna Bledsoe of 
LaFayette; and several nieces and nephews.
   Born Aug. 5, 1924, in Randolph County, Mrs. Sheppard had lived in LaGrange most of 
her life.  She was a retired LPN from Dr. Kenneth Grace's office.  Mrs. Sheppard was a 
graduate of West Georgia Tech.  She was a Navy veteran of World War II and a member 
of East LaGrange Baptist Church.  Mrs. Sheppard was the daughter of the late Amos and 
Prudence Thompson Griffin.
   Arrangements were by Hunter-Allen-Myhand Funeral Home, LaGrange.

Sara Ann Hendon Bankhead

   (VALLEY MILLS, Texas) Memorial services for Sara Bankhead, 68, of Valley Mills, 
Texas, were held at First Baptist Church of Valley Mills on Saturday, Nov. 23, 2002.
   Mrs. Bankhead was the daughter of the late James Whitt and Annie East Hendon of 
Ofelia and Roanoke and the sister of the late Patty Hendon Gunn of Roanoke.  She was a 
member of the Lineville High School Class of 1952.
   Sara Bankhead was the first director of the first Crisis Pregnancy Center in the nation.  
It was established at Edgewood Baptist Church in Columbus, Ga., reached more clients 
than any other center, and was used as a model to establish a national network of 
hundreds of centers.
   Surviving Mrs. Bankhead are her husband, William Arthur Bankhead Sr. of Valley Mills; 
three children, William Bankhead Jr. of Boise, Idaho, Rev. Jeffery Bankhead of Mesquite, 
Texas, and Mrs. William (Kimberly) Mensching of Cordele, Ga.; six grandchildren; a 
sister; three brothers; and several nephews and nieces, including Deborah Revis and 
Cecelia Tinney of Roanoke.  She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Haley Ann 
Mensching.
