OBITUARIES:

Mary L. Sims

   (WADLEY) Mary L. Sims, 87, of Wadley died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, at Randolph 
County Hospital.
   Funeral services were at Jeff Jones Funeral Home, LaFayette, at 1 p.m. on Saturday, 
Jan. 29, with interment in Sims Cemetery.  Elder Albert Wilson and the Rev. Jack 
Womack officiated.
   Miss Sims is survived by nieces and nephews.
   Pallbearers were Mike Sims, James Sims, George Sims, Frank Davis, Ted Tibbett and 
Mark Cotney.  Honorary pallbearers were Joe Rooker Davis, Gary Sims and John D. 
Davis.
   Miss Sims was born in Chambers County on May 31, 1912.  She was retired from 
Avondale Mills in LaFayette and later worked in the cafeteria at Southern Union State 
Junior College in Wadley.  She was a member of Darian Primitive Baptist Church.
   Arrangements were by Jeff Jones Funeral Home, LaFayette.

Arthur Curtis 'Jody' Watts

   Arthur Curtis 'Jody' Watts, 51, of Roanoke died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, at George H. 
Lanier Memorial Hospital, Valley.
   Funeral services will be Wednesday, Feb. 2, at 2 p.m. at Rocky Mount United Methodist 
Church, Roanoke, with the Rev. Hollis Boykins officiating.  Burial will be in the church 
cemetery.
   Survivors include his wife, Emily Ann Watts of Roanoke; two daughters, Alethia Allen 
and Christine Phillips of Roanoke; a son, Curtis Lamont Phillips of Wedowee; 
a stepdaughter, Charlene Wilder of Roanoke; three stepsons, Earnest Atkinson and 
Johnny Atkinson of Roanoke and Eugene Atkinson of Lawson, Okla.; two sisters, Sally 
Emily Watts and Rosie Watts of Roanoke; a stepbrother, William Ware of Roanoke; and 
one grandchild.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Will Watts Jr. and Elma 
Watts, and his stepmother, Mary Emily Watts.
   The body will be placed in the church one hour before services.
   Arrangements are by Clark Memorial Funeral Service, Roanoke.

Josif Milkja

   (FIVE POINTS) Funeral services for Josif Milkja, 75, of Five Points were at 10 a.m. 
Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Thurman Hamlet 
and Barry Cosper officiating.  Burial was at Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery.
   Mr. Milkja died Monday, Jan. 24, at his residence.
   He was born in Yugoslavia on Nov. 2, 1924, son of Phillip and Semenika Milkja.  He 
was a mechanical engineer and a Baptist.
   Survivors include his wife, Ana Pasula Milkja of New York; a daughter, Semenika Luhrs 
of Five Points; a son, Mareno Milkja of New York; a sister, Ana Ducu of Yugoslavia; five 
grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
   Arrangements were by Quattlebaum Funeral Home, Roanoke.

Louise Hurst

   (LAFAYETTE) Louise Hurst, 89, of LaFayette died Friday, Jan. 28, 2000, at Care 
Center of Opelika.
   Funeral services were at Jeff Jones Funeral Home, LaFayette, at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 
30, with interment in Rock Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.
   Mrs. Hurst was born in Chambers County on Nov. 25, 1910.  She was a homemaker 
and a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church of LaFayette.
   Mrs. Hurst is survived by two sons, James Hurst of Opelika and Jack Hurst of Roanoke; 
five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her 
husband, Lon Hurst.
   Arrangements were by Jeff Jones Funeral Home, LaFayette.

Sanford Eugene Hill

   (LANETT) Sanford Eugene Hill, 72, of Lanett died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000, at Sacred 
Heart Medical Center, Eugene, Ore.
   Mr. Hill was a native of Roanoke, born July 21, 1927, son of the late Sarah Lela Gray 
Hill and William Stephen Hill.  He was a veteran of World War II and had worked for 
many years with West Point Pepperell.  Memorial contributions may be made to the 
charity of one's choice.
   Mr. Hill is survived by sons Chuck Hill of Eugene, Ore., Brad Hill of Crossville, Tenn., 
Stanley Hill of Lanett and Mitch Dyes and Thomas Dyes of Beulah; two sisters, Ester 
Orange and Annie Ruth Ray of Valley; a brother, Bud Hill of Valley; and four 
grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Alleen Hill.
   Funeral services were at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley at 
2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 30, with burial in Fairview Cemetery.  The Rev. Milt Willford 
officiated.
   Arrangements were by Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley.

John Leonard Hardy

   (VALLEY) John Leonard Hardy, 89, of Valley died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000, at Lanier 
Memorial Hospital, Valley.
   Mr. Hardy was born Sept. 22, 1910, in Tallapoosa County, son of John Steven and Ella 
Fair Johnson Hardy.  He worked from an early age in a textile mill and before World War 
II ran the theater in Riverview and married Zula Thomas, to whom he was married until 
her death in 1977.  He also was the only sign painter in the Valley area for many years.  
He served in the Navy during WWII.  He was active in many civic organizations and 
causes over the years and was an active member of his church, Valley First Baptist, for 
nearly 60 years.  After the age of 70, his interest in art, politics and civics coupled with 
his sense of humor, led him to begin creating cartoons for the Valley Times News.  He 
continued to draw his "Hardytoons" until his mid 80s.
   Survivors include his wife, Clarice Hardy of Valley; a daughter, Gloria Tarver of Seven 
Lakes, N.C.; three grandsons and four great-grandchildren.
   Funeral services were at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley at 
2 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 2, with burial in Resthaven Cemetery.  The Rev. Albert Thornton 
officiated.
   Memorial donations may be made to Valley First Baptist Church.
   Arrangements were by Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home, Valley.

Bernice Richardson

   (VALLEY) Bernice Richardson, 86, of Valley died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000, at her 
residence.
   Mrs. Richardson was born in Randolph County on Feb. 9, 1913.  She was a retired 
employee of West Point Pepperell's Lanett Mill and a member of Welcome Home Baptist 
Church.
   Survivors include two daughters, Ilene Stanuch of Sequin, Texas, and Barbara Danford 
of Valley; four sons, Tyre Richardson of Newnan, Ga., Verion Richardson of Valley, 
Bennie Richardson of Buchanan, Ga., and Larry Richardson of Big Springs; 
19 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
   Graveside services were at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 30, at Hillcrest Cemetery.  The 
Rev Ray Hammock officiated.
   Arrangements were by Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home.

Curtis Randall Lynch II

   (GREENVILLE, Ala.) Curtis Randall Lynch II, 39, of Greenville, Ala., died Friday, Jan. 
28, 2000, in Andalusia.
   Graveside services were Monday, Jan. 31, at 2 p.m. at Wadley City Cemetery with the 
Rev. Beeland O. Friday officiating.
   Survivors include his mother, Linda G. Ward of Greenville; a sister, Karen Lynch 
Phillips of Montgomery; and two brothers, Michael J. Lynch of Greensboro, N.C., and 
Robert A. Ward of Greenville.  Mr. Lynch was preceded in death by his father, Curtis 
Randall Lynch.
   The family requests that memorials be sent to Big Oak Ranch, P.O. Box 507, 
Springville, AL 35146.
   Arrangements were by Dunklin-Herndon Funeral Home, Greenville.

Harry S. Lygren

   (ROANOKE) Funeral services for Harry S. Lygren, 89, of Roanoke were at 11 a.m. 
Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Tex Ergle 
officiating.  Burial was in Cedarwood Cemetery.
   Mr. Lygren died Sunday, Jan. 30, at his residence following an extended illness.
   He was born in New York, son of John and Helene Pierson Lygren, on Oct. 14, 1910.  
He was a veteran of World War II and was a captain in the Merchant Marines.  He was of 
the Lutheran faith.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Lucille Lygren.
   Survivors include nieces and nephews.  Pallbearers were his nephews.
   Arrangements were by Quattlebaum Funeral Home, Roanoke.

JoAnn Gipson Clark

   (FIVE POINTS) Funeral services for JoAnn Gipson Clark, 59, of Five Points were 
Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, at 2 p.m. at Pine Grove United Methodist Church in the White 
Plains community near LaFayette with the Rev. Cecelia Broome, pastor, officiating.  
Burial followed at the church cemetery.
   Mrs. Clark died Thursday, Jan. 27.
   She was born in Chambers County on March 3, 1940, daughter of Dennis and Minnie 
Lee Gipson.  She was employed in Roanoke for more than 20 years.  Mrs. Clark was a 
member of St. Paul United Methodist Church.  She was preceded in death by her husband 
of 37 years, William Henry "Pete" Clark.
   Surviving are ten children, Barbara Alford, Kerry Clark and Brenda Clark of Roanoke, 
Dorothy McGuire, Tommy Clark and Phenetia Wallace of LaFayette, Joyce Turner, 
Danny Clark and Dewayne Clark of Five Points and Annette Mackey of Lanett; two 
brothers, Dennis Gipson of San Antonio, Texas, and Henry Gipson of Columbus, Ohio; 
four sisters, Ella Mae Walton of LaGrange, Ga., Annie Lois Carter, Catherine Gaither and 
Sarah Casher of Columbus, Ohio; four sons-in law, two daughters-in-law, 
15 grandchildren, two special aunts, one special nephew, seven brothers-in-law, 
five sisters-in-law and a loving host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
   Pallbearers were nephews and friends.

Matilda Smith Harvel

   (ROANOKE) Funeral services for Matilda Smith Harvel, 92, of Roanoke were at 2 p.m. 
Thursday, Feb 3, 2000 at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. S. T. Janney 
officiating.  Burial was at Randolph Memory Gardens.
   Mrs. Harvel died Tuesday, Feb. 1, at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika.
   She was born in Newell on Dec. 9, 1907, daughter of Joe S. Smith and Sarah D. Butler 
Smith.  She was a homemaker and a member of Bethel Baptist Church.  She was preceded 
in death by her husband, Sam E. Harvel.
   Survivors include two daughters, Effie H. Williams of LaFayette and Rudean H. Tyson 
of Roanoke; a son, Ellis Harvel of Roanoke; two sisters, Ted Burke of Roanoke and 
Rachel Sherrell of Marbury; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
   Pallbearers were Mack Rollins, Bobby Longshore, Churck Battit, Bobby Nolen, Ronnie 
Nolen and Elmer Fincher.

Cloyce M. Harrison

   (DOTHAN) Cloyce M. Harrison, 83, of Dothan, formerly of Wedowee, died 
Wednesday morning, Feb. 2, 2000, in Dothan hospital after an extended illness.
   Funeral services were Friday Feb. 4, at Beulah Baptist Church, with burial in the 
church cemetery.  Dr. Austin Phillips and the Rev. Otis Derrah officiated.
   Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Kermit W. Harrison of Dothan; two 
daughters, Sheila Kidd of Hueytown and Neena Winn of Leawood, Kansas; two sons, 
Mack C. Harrison of Opelika and Joe Friley Harrison of Mobile; a sister, Faye M. Griffin 
of Enterprise; ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
   Serving as pallbearers were grandsons Joey Kidd, Eric Kidd, Brian Kidd, Kevin 
Harrison, Byron Prather, Tyler Winn and Alex Rivera.

Awbrey Clemon Craven

   (WADLEY) Funeral services for Awbrey Clemon Craven, 81, of Wadley, were at 3 p.m. 
Sunday, Feb. 6, 2000, at Midway Methodist Church, with the Rev. Earl Rollins and the 
Rev. Ed Grooms officiating.  Burial was in the adjoining cemetery.
   Mr. Craven died Friday, Feb. 4, at LaGrange Hospice in LaGrange, Ga.
   He was born in Clay County on Aug. 21, 1918, son of Taylor Craven and Betty Sellers 
Craven.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Christine Mitchell Craven, and was a 
member of Midway United Methodist Church.
   Survivors include three daughters, Floris Carr and Frances Pate of Woodland and Peggy 
Richardson of Roanoke; a son, Jerry Craven of Wadley; 14 grandchildren; 25 great- 
grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a sister, Mae Harmon of Lineville.
   Pallbearers were Scott Craven, Keith Langley, Tony Calhoun, Robert Garrett, Tim 
Cook, Rocky Cook, Jonathan Henderson and Chucky Potts.

Steve Carden

   (ROANOKE) Graveside funeral services for Steve Carden, 56, of Roanoke will be at 
2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2000, at Cedarwood Cemetery, with the Rev. Pete Raser 
officiating.
   Mr. Carson died Sunday, Feb. 6, at Biloxi Regional Medical Center in Biloxi, Miss.
   A lifelong resident of Randolph County, he was born Oct. 13, 1943, son of Larkin 
Carden and Barbara Cole Carden.  He was self-employed in the construction industry.
   Survivors include two daughters, Georgia White and Brandy Sanders; two sons, Mark 
Carden and Paul Carden, all of Roanoke; and seven grandchildren.
   Pallbearers will be Pete Holloway, Phillip Reaves, Gerald Knight, Jerry Waldrep, Ricky 
Cofield and Jimmy Carden.

   (WOODLAND) Funeral services for Edwin G. Bailey, 58, of Woodland were at 2 p.m. 
Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000, at Providence Baptist Church, with the Rev. David Daniel and 
Glen Ward officiating.  Burial was in the adjoining cemetery.
   Mr. Bailey died Thursday, Feb. 3, at Wedowee Hospital.
   He was born in Randolph County on July 24, 1941, son of Hoyt G. Bailey and Vaudie 
Brown Bailey.  He was self-employed as a carpenter and was a member of Mt. Carmel 
Church of Christ.
   Survivors include his wife, Edwina Fincher Bailey of Woodland; two daughters, Deanna 
Foldenauer of Douglasville, Ga., and Dehabra Abernathy of Bremen, Ga.; a son, Duane 
Bailey of Woodland; his mother, Vaudie Bailey of Woodland; three sisters, Alva Jean 
Spradlin of Lineville, Katrenia Arrington of Woodland and Brenda Hodge of Crossville, 
Tenn.; and seven grandchildren.

Robert Vinson Taylor

   (WADLEY) Funeral services for Robert Vinson Taylor, 78, of Wadley were at 2:30 
p.m. Sunday, Feb. 13, 2000, at Hope Memorial Christian Church, with the Rev. Gordon 
Taylor officiating.  Burial was at Forrester's Chapel Church Cemetery.
   Mr. Taylor died Friday, Feb. 11, at Randolph County Hospital following a short illness.
   He was born in Clay County on Aug. 6, 1921, son of the Rev. John Taylor and Mae 
Belle Barfield Taylor.  He was employed at West Point Manufacturing and was 
self-employed in the timber industry.  He was a World War II veteran and a member of 
Hope Memorial Christian Church.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Maude W. 
Taylor, his father, and brothers Grant Taylor, Bonner Taylor, Calvin Taylor and Vester 
Taylor.
   Survivors include three daughters, Betty T. Lacy of Lanett, Ginger T. Rountree of 
Macon, Ga., and Glenda Shaw of LaFayette; four sons, Robert T. Taylor and W. Terry 
Taylor of Wadley, Timothy Y. Taylor of Kings Mountain, N.C. and Danny Smith of 
Valley; his mother, Mae Belle Taylor of Wadley; a sister, Joyce T. Lacy of Wadley; 
a brother, John D. Taylor of Fairfax; 22 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.

Teddy Burke

   (ROANOKE)  Funeral services for Mrs. Teddy Burke, 94, of Roanoke will be at 2 p.m. 
Thursday, Feb. 17, 2000, at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Stanley Daniel 
and the Rev. Wally Rezendes officiating.  Burial will follow at Randolph Memory 
Gardens.
   Mrs. Burke died Monday, Feb. 14, at Traylor Nursing Home in Roanoke.
   She was born in Randolph County on Nov. 29, 1905, daughter of Joseph Smith and 
Sara Butler Smith.  She had been employed in the textile industry and was a member of 
Roanoke Church of the Nazarene.
   Survivors include two daughters, Runette Hodges of Columbus, Ga., and Betty Haynes 
of College Park, Ga; a sister Rachel Sherrell of Marbury; 11 grandchildren, 22 great- 
grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
   The family will receive friends at Quattlebaum Funeral Home on Wednesday, Feb. 16, 
from 8 a.m. until 9 p.m.
   Pallbearers will be Mike Hodges, Wendell Haynes, Shane Haynes, Larry Whaley, Mark 
Hodges and Gerry Burke.

Alberta B. Taylor

   (WEST POINT, Ga.) Alberta B. Taylor, 88, of West Point, Ga., died Saturday, Feb. 5, 
2000, at George H. Lanier Memorial Hospital, Valley.
   Funeral services were at New Hope Baptist Church, Fredonia, on Thursday, Feb. 10, at 
2:30 p.m. EST, with the Rev. Michael Armstead officiating.  Interment was in the church 
cemetery.
   Surviving are four daughters, Mary Ann Glaze of West Point, Victoria Brown and 
Florence Fearon of Milwaukee, Wis., and Dennie Mae Mackey of Five Points; two 
step-sons, General Taylor of Vernon Hill, Va., and Homer D. Taylor of Milwaukee; 
14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and 18 nephews and nieces.
   Mrs. Taylor was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.

Mary Alice Reaves

   (SYLACAUGA) Funeral services for Mary Alice Reaves, 71, of Sylacauga, formerly of 
Wedowee, were at 3:30 Sunday, Feb. 13, 2000, at Union Baptist Church with the Revs. 
Ray Runyan and Roy Wysner officiating.  Burial was at Union Baptist Church Cemetery.
   Mrs. Reaves died Friday, Feb. 11, at University of Alabama Hospital in Birmingham.
   She was born in Cleburne County on May 5, 1928, daughter of Clelon Wheeler and Lola 
Brown Wheeler.  She was a homemaker and a member of Union Baptist Church.
   Survivors include a daughter, Karen Miley of Sycamore; a son, Johnny Pentecost of 
Troup County, Ga.; three brothers, Charles Wheeler and Ralph Wheeler of Florida, and 
Eugene Wheeler of Heflin; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
   Pallbearers were Brandon Roberts, Larry Roberts, Gary Roberts, Wayne Wortham, 
Thurman Whitmore, John Roberts and Wayne Johnson.

Danny Anthony Webb

   (MONTGOMERY) Funeral services for Danny Anthony Webb, 59, of Montgomery 
were Friday, Feb. 4, 2000, at noon at Dalraida United Methodist Church, with the Rev. 
Fred Fuller officiating.  Burial was at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church cemetery, Mt. Olive, 
Chambers County, with graveside services beginning at 3:30 p.m.
   Mr. Webb died suddenly on Tuesday, Feb. 1, at Baptist Medical Center East, 
Montgomery.
   A Randolph County native, Mr. Webb was born Jan. 27, 1941, son of Milton Elon and 
Margaret Lee Spivey Webb.  He was a Vietnam veteran who retired after 24 years service 
with the Air Force.  He exemplified the true meaning of an officer and a gentleman.  Mr. 
Webb worked as a property manager with the State of Alabama Department of 
Corrections.  He was a member of Dalraida United Methodist Church and the 
Montgomery Antique Car Club.  He was a dedicated husband and father.
   Survivors include his wife, Melberlene Burdett Webb; three daughters, Terri Webb of 
San Antonio, Texas, and Pamela Webb and Michelle Walworth of Montgomery; and one 
sister Phyllis Williams of Birmingham.
   Pallbearers were Lewis Ward, Jack Shamburger, Perry Lewis, George Meriwether, 
Dave Bollie, Al Grove, Randall Harmon and Jeremy Harmon.  Honorary pallbearers were 
Steve Touchstone, Charles Persons, Bill Weldon, Mike Smith and Crafton Draper.

Inez Burdette Jones

   (PRATTVILLE) Inez Burdette Jones of Prattville died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2000.
   Funeral services were Wednesday, Jan. 26, at 11 a.m. at Prattville Memorial Chapel, 
with Dr. Travis Coleman officiating.  Burial was at Prattville Memory Gardens.
   Mrs. Jones was a house mother at the Methodist Children's Home in Selma for many 
years and later retired as house director at the University of Montevallo.  She was 
preceded in death by her husband, O U. Jones; one son, Joey Jones; and granddaughter, 
Katrina Wade Bush.
   She is survived by two daughters, Dorothy Brewer of Starkville, Miss., and Nancy 
Wade of Prattville.  She was the sister of John Frank Burdette of Roanoke.

   (WEDOWEE) Funeral services for Susie Pearl Parker, 92, of Wedowee, were at 2 p.m. 
Sunday, Feb. 13, 2000, at Benefield Funeral Chapel in Wedowee, with the Rev. Earl 
Gordon, Bro. Gerald Romine and Bro. Sam Carpenter officiating.  Burial was at Ava 
United Methodist Church Cemetery.
   Miss Parker died Friday, Feb. 11, at Wedowee Hospital following an extended illness.
   She was born in Justin, Texas, on June 21, 1907, daughter of George Washington 
Parker and Lou Ellen Bolt Parker.  She was a school teacher and in the restaurant 
business.  She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Wedowee.
   Survivors include two nieces, Lou Ellen Butler of Wedowee and Imogene White of 
Gadsden; and a host of great nieces and nephews.
   Pallbearers were Richard Butler, Donnie Butler, Brian Butler, David Chadwick, 
Jonathan Chadwick, Nathan Chadwick, Johnny White and Randal Rollins.

OBITUARIES:

Alberta S. Tillis

   (WADLEY) Funeral services for Alberta S. Tillis, 74, of Wadley were at 1 p.m. 
Thursday, Feb. 17, 2000, at Forrester's Chapel Methodist Church, with the Rev. Gordon 
Taylor, the Rev. Tim Whaley and Hospice Chaplain Lanita Cotney officiating.  Burial was 
in the adjoining cemetery.
   Mrs. Tillis died Tuesday, Feb. 15, at her residence.
   A lifelong resident of Randolph County, she was born Feb. 22, 1925, daughter of Robert 
L. Stewart and Odessa Watkins Stewart.  She was employed as a seamstress and was a 
member of Midway Full Gospel Church.  She was preceded in death by her husband, 
Earnest Tillis, and a grandson, Eddie Norris.
   Survivors include two daughters, Patricia Cummings and Kathy Hunt of Wadley; a 
sister, Pearl Sims of Roanoke; three brothers, Herbert Stewart of Hobokan, Ga., William 
Smith of Eastman, Ga., and Robert Smith of Atlanta; two grandchildren and four great- 
grandchildren.
   Pallbearers were nephews.

Georgia Mae McFarlin

   (COLLEGE PARK, Ga.) Funeral services for Georgia Mae McFarlin, 86, of College 
Park, Ga., formerly of Roanoke, were Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist 
Church, Riley Street, Roanoke, with the Revs. L. J. Wright and R. L. Heflin officiating.  
Burial was at Canaan Baptist Church Cemetery in Welch.
   Mrs. McFarlin died Monday, Feb. 21, at College Park Health Care Center in College 
Park.
   Mrs. McFarlin was an outstanding member of First Baptist Church, Riley Street, 
Roanoke, where she faithfully served in many capacities on the local, district and state 
level.  She was president emeritus of East Alabama Union District Association, Women's 
Convention Auxiliary, during which time she organized the Nurses' Guild.  She was a 
diligent worker with the Sunday School Department.  Mrs. McFarlin was also a member 
of the church choir for a number of years until declining health limited her activities. 
She was the widow of Charlie McFarlin.
   She is survived by a cousin, Roy Thompson of College Park.
   Arrangements were by Clark Memorial Funeral Service, Roanoke.

Frank Junior Owens

   (ROANOKE) Funeral services for Frank Junior Owens, 69, of Roanoke were Friday, 
Feb. 18, 2000, at 2 p.m. at Fellowship Baptist Church with the Revs. Shannon Mapp, 
Louie Olds and Cecil Halsey officiating.  Burial followed at the adjoining cemetery.
   Mr. Owens died Wednesday, Feb. 16, at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange.
   A Cleburne County native, Mr. Owens was born March 22, 1930, son of Robert and 
Willie Ann Watkins Owens.  He had been employed with Harlin Trucking.
   Survivors include his wife, Hazel Mapp Owens of Roanoke; four daughters, Kathy 
Owens, Janice May and Sherry Henry of Roanoke and Martha Puckett of Franklin, Ga.; 
two sons, Frankie Owens and Michael Owens, also of Roanoke; three sisters, Lillie Mae 
Echols of Heflin, Louise Morris of Bowdon, Ga., and Geneva Morgan of Anniston; one 
brother, Bill Odell Owens of Rome, Ga.; ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
   Pallbearers were Johnathan Mapp, Benjie Mapp, Bill Owens, Randy Edwards, Sammy 
Edwards and Glenn Echols.

Georgia Catherine Looser Sims

   (WADLEY) Graveside services for Georgia Catherine Looser Sims, 81, of Wadley were 
Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, at 11 a.m. at Sims Family Cemetery, with Elder Albert Wilson 
officiating.
   Mrs. Sims died Sunday, Feb. 20, at Clay County Nursing Home after an extended 
illness.
   A former resident of Brighton, Mrs. Sims was born Oct. 24, 1918, in Chambers County, 
daughter of John H. and Bertha Jarrell Looser.  She was a member of Darien Primitive 
Baptist Church and had retired from Livingston Nursing Home in Bessemer, where she 
worked as an L.P.N.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul B. Sims.
   Survivors include two sons, James Wood Sims of Wadley and George Benjamin Sims of 
Hueytown; one sister, Lemerle Parks of Talladega; five grandchildren; and several nieces 
and nephews.
   Pallbearers were James W. Sims Jr., Paul N. Sims, Thomas Nall, Kenneth Isbell, Frank 
Davis Sr. and Frank Davis Jr.  Honorary pallbearers were Jimmy Looser and Andrew O. 
Redmon.

Verna Turner

   (ROANOKE) Funeral services for Verna Turner, 50, of Roanoke were at 11 a.m. 
Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000, at First Baptist Church of Roanoke with the Revs. Johnny 
Bishop, Brenda Bussey and Jimmy Moses officiating.  Graveside services and burial were 
at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 20, at Spring Bank Cemetery in Millry.
   Mrs. Turner died Thursday, Feb. 17, at Brookwood Medical Center in Birmingham.
   She was born in Millry in Washington County, on March 11, 1949, daughter of Frank 
and Ossie Phillips Taylor.  She was a homemaker, the minister of youth at First Baptist 
Church of Roanoke for nine years and a member of First Baptist Church of Roanoke.
   Survivors include her husband, Dr. Douglas Turner of Roanoke; a son, Brandon Turner 
of Roanoke; her mother, Ossie Taylor of Millry; three brothers, Wayne Taylor of Millry, 
Teddy Taylor of Bay Minette and James Vernon Taylor of Dalton, Ga.

Hoyt Rufus Sears

   (POWDER SPRINGS, Ga.) Graveside services for Hoyt Rufus Sears, 63, of Powder 
Springs, Ga., were Monday, Feb. 21, 2000, at 1 p.m. at Providence Cemetery, Randolph 
County, with the Rev. Ridley Parmer officiating.
   Mr. Sears died Saturday, Feb. 19, at his home.
   A Randolph County native, Mr. Sears was born July 3, 1936, son of Willie Edward and 
Cony Jones Parmer Sears.  He was a member of Providence Baptist Church and was 
self-employed.
   Survivors include one sister, Peggy Carpenter of Elba; two brothers, Floyd Sears of 
Vernon, Fla., and Billy Sears of Temple, Ga.; and a host of nieces.

Horace G. Clack

   (COLUMBUS, Ga.) Horace G. Clack, 82, of Columbus, Ga., died Saturday, Feb. 19, 
2000, at St. Francis Hospital, Columbus.
   Mr. Clack was born in Roanoke on March 26, 1917, son of the late Ola Lee Bowman 
Clack and George Clack.  He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served for 21 years.  He 
was formerly employed by the City of Columbus as a filter plant operator.  He was a 
Baptist.
   Mr. Clack is survived by his wife, Antonie Clack of Columbus; three sons, Horace W. 
Clack of Mesa, Ariz., Thomas M. Clack of Dadeville and Gary D. Clack of Talbotton, 
Ga.; three daughters, Peggy J. Smith of Dadeville, Patricia O. Allen of Talbotton and 
Brenda L. Hobbs of Phenix City; 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
   Funeral services will be at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley at 
2 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 23, with burial in Fairfax Cemetery.  The Rev. Scott Brenton 
will officiate.

Willa Ruth Longshore Jordan

   (AUGUSTA, Ga.) Funeral services for Willa Ruth "Honey" Longshore Jordan, 62, of 
Augusta, Ga., were Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000, at 11 a.m. at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist 
Church, Augusta, with the Revs. Thomas Walker and J. C. Phinizy officiating.  Burial was 
at Mt. Olive Memorial Garden.
   Mrs. Jordan died Monday, Feb. 14.
   She was born June 15, 1937, to Mrs. Esther "Lean" Longshore and the late Deacon 
George "Richard" Longshore in Roanoke.  At an early age, she joined St. Paul Baptist 
Church in Roanoke.  After moving to Augusta, she united with Greater Young Zion 
Baptist Church.  Later she decided to unite with other family members at Mt. Zion Baptist 
Church.  She is a graduate of Lucy C. Laney High School and University Hospital School 
of Practical Nursing.  She retired from Beverly Manor Health Care as a 3-11 charge nurse 
(LPN).  She was married to Charles Jordan, who preceded her in death.
   She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Esther Longshore; three uncles; three aunts; two 
nieces; two goddaughters; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, cousins and a host of other 
relatives and friends.
   Pallbearers were Carl Colleens, James Burton, Bernard Dickerson, Jarrold Wright, 
Cedric Sturgis and Tyrone Butler.  Honorary pallbearers were associates of Beverly 
Manor Health Care.

Eula Baker

   (WOODLAND) Eula Baker, 78, of Woodland died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000, at 
Randolph County Hospital.
   Mrs. Baker was a member of Union Hill Baptist Church of Woodland.
   Survivors include four daughters, Josephine Chappell of Atlanta, Ga., Jewell Williams 
and Robin Bryant of Carrollton, Ga. and Sue Nell Boykin of Woodland; two brothers, 
Jesse W. Grier of Atlanta and Rufus Grier of Woodland; 12 grandchildren; 11 great- 
grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
   Services for Mrs. Baker were Tuesday, Feb. 22, at 1 p.m. at Union Hill Baptist Church 
with the Rev. Burnett Jackson officiating.  Interment was in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, 
Woodland.
   Arrangements were by Silmon Mortuary, Roanoke.

Beulah Sutton Reaves

   (WADLEY) Funeral services for Beulah Sutton Reaves, 87, of Wadley will be at 2 p.m. 
Wednesday, Feb. 23, at Pinetucky Baptist Church, with the Rev. Tommie Reaves 
officiating.  Burial will follow in the adjoining church cemetery.
   Mrs. Reaves died Monday, Feb. 21, 2000, at Clay County Hospital in Ashland.
   She was born in Cleburne County on Aug. 15, 1912, daughter of Lonnie Sutton and Bell 
Allen Sutton.  She was a homemaker and a member of Pinetucky Church.  She was 
preceded in death by her husband, Wilson P. Reaves.
   Survivors include a daughter, Brenda Fetner of Wadley; three sons, Junior W. Reaves of 
Lineville, Carl R. Reaves of Talladega and Payne Reaves of LaGrange; four sisters, Lottie 
Sutton Gaston and Mae Sutton Lipham of Lanett, Mildred Sutton Triplett of Wedowee 
and Joyce Sutton White of Valley; a brother, Edward Sutton of Wedowee; 
11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
   Mrs. Reaves will lie in state at the church for one hour beginning at 1 p.m. on 
Wednesday.
   Pallbearers will be Bobby Reaves, Dale Reaves, Ken Reaves, Mike Riley, Patrick Tate, 
Bryan Fetner and Daniel Fetner.

   (BURNSVILLE, W. Va.) Gerald R. "Jerry" Timberman, 59, of Burnsville, West 
Virginia, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000.  Memorial services for the immediate family will be 
held in Burnsville.

   Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Timberman of Woodland; and three brothers, Richard
