Mr. Meacham died Feb. 19. __________ Lura Henry Hudson (LAFAYETTE) Funeral services for Lura Henry Hudson, 78, of LaFayette, formerly of Five Points, were at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 25, 1999, at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Yancey Sanders and the Rev. Vernon Brown officiating. Burial was at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Hudson died Monday, Feb. 22, at LaFayette Nursing Home. She was born in Heard County, Ga., on Sept. 2, 1920, daughter of the Rev. William H. and Susie Jane Henry. She was a homemaker and a member of Bethel Baptist Church. Lester and Emily Lea Rice Lester. Mrs. Newell was a homemaker and a member of Abilene Baptist Church. She also was preceded in death by her husband Johnny Harold Newell Sr. She is survived by a son, Johnny Newell of Carrollton; two daughters, Debra Phillips of Reading, Pa., and Janie Newell of Opelika; two sisters, Lorene Harper of Jacksonville and Faye Hall of Newnan, Ga.; and two brothers, James Lester of Carrollton and J. Etchison, 70, of Valley died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 1999, at Lanier Memorial Hospital, Valley. Mr. Etchison was born in Randolph County on Sept. 16, 1928, son of the late Sally Causey Etchison and James Allen Etchison. He was a 20-year veteran of the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War and Vietnam. He had been a resident of the Valley area for the past 26 years and was a member of Happy Valley Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Latha Pinkard Etchison; two daughters, Kathy Marie Etchison of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Kimberly Walker of Lanett; two sons, Dexter Wayne Etchison of Ft. Richardson, Alaska, and Dennis Ray Pilgrim of Lanett; three brothers, Joe Cecil Etchison of Randolph County, William H. Mr. Browning was a native of Randolph County, born March 3, 1918. He was a retired employee of West Point Stevens Fairfax Mill. He was of the Nazarene faith. Survivors include a son, R. J. Browning of Valley; two sisters, Eula Maudie Browning and Norene B. Cannon of Valley; a brother, Charlie Browning of Valley; three grandchildren; and 12 nieces and nephews. Mr. Browning was the son of the late Itela Cavela Adamson Browning and Thomas N. Browning. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force, was a veteran of the Vietnam War, and was a member of DAV Chapter 56, the Air Force Sergeants Association, and the Retired Enlisted Association. He was a Nazarene by faith. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, John W. "Willie" Moon. Mrs. Houston was a homemaker and an active member of Friendship Baptist Church, where she served many years as secretary of the Missionary Society. She enjoyed note singings, often traveling to various churches to take part. Survivors include her husband, John Wesley Houston of Wedowee; four sons, John W. Warren Wilder officiating. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery. Mr. Lipham died Saturday, March 6, at his residence following an extended illness. Mr. Lipham was a native of Randolph County, born March 23, 1924, son of Ezra and Sletie Carter Lipham. He was retired from Greyhound Bus Lines after 34 years of service. He was an army veteran of World War II and a member of Bear Creek United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the DAV and recipient of the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Molly Jane Bass Lipham; a daughter, Martha Jane Schlicker of Sharpsburg, Ga.; one son, Jimmy Lipham of Lakeland, Fla.; two brothers, Lavelle Lipham of Ashland and Jack Lipham of LaGrange, Ga.; and four grandchildren. Arrangements were by Benefield Funeral Home, Wedowee. __________ Ambrous Mac Dodgen Jr. (STANDING ROCK) Ambrous Mac Dodgen Jr., 81, of 3155 County Rd. 278, Five Points, died Saturday, March 6, 1999, at St. Francis Hospital in Columbus, Ga. Mr. Dodgen was born Sept. 4, 1917, in Chambers County, son of the late Ambrous Mac Sr. and Kate Towles Dodgen. He was a lifelong member and music director of Standing Rock United Methodist Church. Mr. Dodgen was an army Air Corps veteran of World War II and retired after 42 years of service with Newman Construction Company. He was the current president of the Standing Rock Community Club. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Martha Dodgen of Standing Rock; a daughter, Mrs. Sharon Dodgen McLaughlin of LaGrange, Ga.; a son, Johnny Mac Dodgen of Standing Rock; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Carson was born in Randolph County June 22, 1921. She was a long-time resident of Fairfax and was very active in Fairfax United Methodist Church and Order of the Eastern Star, Langdale chapter, where she was a past Worthy Matron. She was a homemaker and a former employee of West Point Pepperell's Fairfax Mill. She was known for her local charity work. Survivors include a daughter, Sheila Carson of Atlanta; a son, Brad Carson of Opelika; and a sister, Lera Townley of Roanoke. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Annette Knight, and a son, Earnest Wayne Knight. His funeral was Friday, March 26, at noon at Echols Mortuary in Atlanta. Mr. Johnson was born Sept. 21, 1930, in Randolph County to the late Olin and Mattie Pearl Johnson. He was a member of Sweet Home Baptist Church. After graduating from Five Points High School, he later enlisted in the military. In 1964, he married Zeola Copeland. After the death of his mother in 1991, Mr. Johnson moved to Atlanta and was employed with DeKalb College. He retired in 1997. Mr. Johnson is survived by two daughters, Linda Johnson and Terry Lynn Tribble; six grandchildren; and a host of family and friends. He served on Randolph County Board of Education for 18 years and as chairman for a number of years. Mr. Prince had served as a trustee for Woodland High School, and was an active member of the Woodland Quarterback Club and the Cattlemen's Association. He was an army veteran of World War II. Mr. Prince was a member of Napoleon Church of Christ, where he anchored the church leadership.
