OBITUARIES:

Michael J. Clark

     (ROANOKE) Funeral services for Michael J. Clark, 75, of Roanoke were Saturday, 
Oct. 28, 1995, at Taylor's Crossroads Church of Christ, with Mr. William Anthony 
Gunsallus and the Rev. Church Garner officiating. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery.
     Mr. Clark died Thursday, Oct. 26, at Randolph County Hospital after an extended 
illness.
     A former resident of Cedartown, Ga., Mr. Clark was born Dec. 11, 1919, in Roanoke, 
son of John D. and Effie Irene Broacn Clark. He was a World War II navy veteran, a 
member of Pine Bower Baptist Church in Cedartown, and had worked as a self-employed 
home builder.
     Survivors include a sister, Tessie Yaken of Flint, Mich., and several nieces and 
nephews.

Annie Sutton Wright

     (LAFAYETTE) Annie Sutton Wright, 99, of LaFayette died Sunday, Oct. 22, 1995, 
at George H. Lanier Memorial Hospital, Valley.
     Mrs. Wright is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Thelma A. Silmon of LaFayette; a son, 
Wilson Adamson of Birmingham; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; 14 great- 
great-grandchildren; three great-great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
     Services for Mrs. Wright were Saturday, Oct. 28, at 1 p.m. at Friendship Baptist 
Church #2, with the Rev. George L. Silmon officiating. Interment was in the church 
cemetery.
     Arrangements were by Silmon Mortuary of Roanoke.

Sarah Luker Prescott

     (ROANOKE) Sarah Luker Prescott, 90, of Roanoke died Monday, Oct. 30, 1995, 
in Traylor Nursing Home, Roanoke.
     Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31, in Quattlebaum Funeral Home 
Chapel with Dr. Doug Turner officiating. Burial was in Randolph Memory Gardens, 
Roanoke.
     Mrs. Prescott is survived by several nieces and nephews.
     She was a retired salesperson from McGilvray's and was a member of the First Baptist 
Church of Roanoke.
     Quattlebaum Funeral Home, Roanoke, was in charge of arrangements.
     The family requests that there be no flowers but that memorial donations be made to 
the First Baptist Church.

Curtis Rudolph Traylor

     (WOODLAND) Curtis Rudolph Traylor, 75, of Woodland died Sunday, Oct. 29, 
1995, at his residence after an extended illness.
     Funeral services were at 2 p.m., Monday, Oct. 30, at Zion Baptist Church, with the 
Rev. Max New officiating. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery.
     Mr. Traylor is survived by his wife, Mrs. Fannie Dell Traylor of Woodland; two 
daughters, Shirlene Stewart and Nancy Fordham, both of Woodland; two sons, Junior R. 
Traylor and Jimmy Lee Traylor of Woodland; seven grandchildren; two great- 
grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Clayton of Douglasville, Ga., and Retha Harmon of 
Wedowee; and two brothers, Evan Traylor of Douglasville and Brady Traylor of 
Woodland.
     Pallbearers were grandsons and nephews.
     Mr. Traylor was a native and lifelong resident of Randolph County. He was born on 
March 6, 1920, the son of Washie and Beulah Henderson Traylor. He was a member of 
Zion Baptist Church and retired from the wood processing industry.
     Benefield Funeral Home of Wedowee was in charge of arrangements.

Loretta Sorenson Smith

     (JACKSON, Miss.) Loretta Sorenson Smith, 75, of Jackson, Miss., formerly of 
Roanoke, Ala., died Saturday, Oct. 28, 1995, in Whispering Pines Hospice.
     Memorial services were [sic - will be] at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, in Roanoke [sic - 
Randolph] Memory Gardens.
     Mrs. Smith is survived by one daughter, Eugenia Evans of Charleston, S.C.; one son, 
Joseph Smith or [sic] Orleans, France; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
     Mrs. Smith had lived in Jackson for the past 25 years. She was retired as executive 
secretary with Mississippi Office Supply Company and M.P.I. While in Roanoke she was 
executive secretary of the Roanoke Chamber of Commerce and was actively involved as a 
Girl Scout leader and homemaker. She was graduated from M and S Business College in 
Brownsville, Tex., and was a member of the class of 1937 at Lyford High School, Lyford, 
Tex. She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph and daughter Margaret Smith 
Goodwin.
     Quattlebaum Funeral Home, Roanoke, was [sic - is] in charge of local arrangements.

Otis Mitchell

     (WEDOWEE) Otis Mitchell, 77, of Wedowee died Tuesday, Oct. 24, 1995, in Traylor 
Nursing Home, Roanoke, after an extended illness.
     Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 26, in Benefield Funeral Home Chapel, 
with the Revs. Donald Spradlin and J. C. Holloway officiating. Burial was in Wedowee 
City Cemetery.
     Mr. Mitchell is survived by his wife, Mrs. Vera Mitchell of Wedowee; two sisters, Ms. 
Lamerle M. Ayres and Mrs. Sarah Adamson of Wedowee; two brothers, Toll Mitchell of 
West Point, Ga., and Roy Mitchell of Wedowee.
     Pallbearers were Kenneth Spradlin, Basil Mitchell, Rayford Edmondson, George 
Waldrop, Eddie Lindley and Ben Milam.
     Mr. Mitchell was a native and lifelong resident of Randolph County. He was born 
Oct. 14, 1918, son of Fred Thomas and Lela Arizonia Waldrop Mitchell. He was a retired 
farmer and a member and deacon of Mt. Grove Baptist Church.
     Benefield Funeral Home of Wedowee was in charge of arrangements.

Marian Pilcher Hooton

     (LINEVILLE) Funeral services for Marian Pilcher Hooton of Lineville were at 2 p.m. 
Friday, Oct. 27, 1995, at First United Methodist Church of Lineville, with the Rev. John 
Gates officiating. Burial was in Ashland City Cemetery.
     Mrs. Hooton died Wednesday, Oct. 25, at Baptist Medical Center Montclair in 
Birmingham. She was a native of Dothan and lived most of her life in Clay County. She 
was the wife of the late Madison Hilton Hooton and daughter of Clay and Ora Box 
Pilcher. She was a graduate of the University of Montevallo with a major in sociology and 
social work.
     Mrs. Hooton was a member of the executive board of Cheaha Mental Health from its 
inception. She was active in the Alabama Federation of Clubs and instrumental in 
organizing the Progressive Study Club of Lineville, in which she served as president for a 
number of terms. She was a partner in Hooton Lumber Company for many years and was 
a member of First United Methodist Church in Lineville.
     Mrs. Hooton is survived by one son, Matt Hooton, Jr. and one daughter, Marian Ellen 
Hooton, both of Lineville.
     Pallbearers were Walter Farr, Jr., Jack Zorn, Perry Young, Earnest A. Ingram, Ronnie 
Sudduth, Roy Hayes, Tommy Hudson and James Reeves.
     Honorary pallbearers were Progressive Study Club members, Bridge Club members, 
Richard Sudduth, Loyd Sparks, Ernest Wilkinson, Charles William Carpenter, Simon 
Lipham, Manard Amason, Dr. George Smith, Sr., Mark Bowen, Wayne Terry and Dr. 
Larry D. Morris.
     Benefield Funeral Home of Ashland was in charge of arrangements.

Glenda Mae Sikes

     (TULSA, Okla.) Glenda Mae Sikes, 51, of Tulsa died Thursday, Oct. 12, 1995, in an 
automobile accident in Hugoton, Kansas. She was a native of Siloam Springs, Ark.
     Funeral services for Mrs. Sikes were at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, at Moore's 
Eastlawn Funeral Home in Tulsa.
     Survivors include her husband, James E. Sikes of Tulsa, formerly of Wedowee, Ala.; 
three daughters, Cammy L. Cary of Norman, Okla., Kelly D. Sturges of Edmond, Okla., 
and Kimberly M. Winn of Catoosa, Okla.; and three grandchildren.

Mary Sue Adamson

     (ROANOKE) Funeral services for Mary Sue Adamson, 68, of Roanoke were Friday, 
Nov. 3, 1995, at 3 p.m. from Roanoke First United Methodist Church with the Rev. 
Milton Booth officiating. Burial will follow [sic- followed] at Randolph Memory Gardens.
     Mrs. Adamson died Wednesday, Nov. 1, at her home after an extended illness.
     A Randolph County native and lifelong resident of Roanoke, she was born Feb. 13, 
1927, daughter of Eddie Hamilton and Laura Lulla Lurlene Waldrep Cottle. She was a 
member of Roanoke First United Methodist Church and the Wesleyan Service Guild of the 
United Methodist Women. She had worked with Hall's Propane Gas Company.
     Survivors include her husband, Quillian Adamson of Roanoke; one daughter, Anya 
Jackson of Roanoke; one son, Randy Adamson of Roanoke; three sisters, Elizabeth Chase 
and Lonita Hallman of Roanoke and Faye Towler of Rock Mills; one brother, Ford Cottle 
of Anniston; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
     Pallbearers were Chris Towler, Kenny Beverly, Hallman Bradshaw, Jon Chase, Neil 
Chase, Kenny Chase, Russell Massa and Tim Massa.
     In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the church or to 
Chattahoochee Hospice (106 Stewart Street, Roanoke 36274).

Mary Johnson Bonner

     (ROANOKE) Funeral services for Mary Johnson Bonner, 69, of Roanoke were 
Thursday, Nov. 2, 1995, at 2 p.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with the Revs. Frank 
Foster and Harold Bonner officiating. Burial was at Randolph Memory Gardens.
     Mrs. Bonner died suddenly Tuesday, Oct. 31, at her home.
     A longtime resident of Roanoke, Mrs. Bonner was a Chambers County native, born 
May 28, 1926, daughter of Jackson and Edna Mae Smith Johnson. She was a homemaker.
     Survivors include a daughter, Dorothy Ann May of Roanoke; a son, Lamar Bonner of 
Roanoke; one sister, Lamerle Wilson of Opelika; two brothers, Curtis Johnson and Charlie 
Johnson of Roanoke; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
     Pallbearers were Sam Brown, Tommy Yarbrough, Mike May, Larry Wilson, Whit 
Bonner and Tim Ussery.

Charlie Clinton Powell

     (WADLEY) Funeral services for Charlie Clinton Powell, 71, of Wadley were Sunday, 
Nov. 5, 1995, at 2 p.m. from Wadley First United Methodist Church with the Rev. David 
Jones officiating. Burial was at Wadley Cemetery.
     Mr. Powell died Thursday, Nov. 2, at his home.
     A resident of Wadley for the past 23 years, he was a native of Andalusia, born April 6, 
1924, son of Grady and Lela Johns Powell. He was an army veteran of World War II and 
a former resident of Niagara Falls, N.Y. He was a member of Wadley First United 
Methodist Church and had been employed by Ace Hardware.
     Survivors include his wife, Geraldine Phillips Powell of Wadley; three sons, Scott 
Powell of Wadley, Charles Grady Powell of West Point, N.Y., and Lance B. Pierce of 
Brunswick, Ga.; two sisters, Jamus Pullano of Richmond, Va., and Maxine P. Jackson of 
Wadley; one brother, Winston L. Powell of Niagara Falls; six grandchildren and one great- 
grandchild.
     Pallbearers were J. T. Edge, Elliott Gay, John Gay, Pierce Stewart, Charles McKay, 
Bob Blackwell, Hugh Radney and James Rollins.

Jeanetta Barsh

     (WEDOWEE) Jeanetta Barsh, 44, of Wedowee died Nov. 3, 1995, at her home.
     Mrs. Barsh was a member of Stephen Mission United Methodist Church, Wedowee.
     Survivors include her husband, Kenneth Barsh of Wedowee; two sons, Clarence 
Johnson Jr. of Alpine and Wayne Barsh of Wedowee; one daughter, Belinda Woodgett of 
Wedowee; her father, John Knight of Wedowee; two sisters, Annie Mae Woodgett of 
Wedowee and Cora Scott of California; two brothers, John W. Knight and Troy Knight of 
Wedowee; and four grandchildren, two aunts, three uncles and a host of other relatives 
and friends.
     Services for Mrs. Barsh were Tuesday, Nov. 7, at 1 p.m. from Pine Flat Primitive 
Baptist Church with Elder Thomas Knight officiating. Interment was in the cemetery at 
Stephen Mission United Methodist Church.
     Arrangements were by Silmon Mortuary, Roanoke.

Margie Pollard Richardson

     (LANETT) Margie Pollard Richardson, 96, of Lanett died Thursday, Nov. 2, 1995, 
at Lee Manor Health Care Center, Opelika.
     A native of Randolph County, Mrs. Richardson was a homemaker and resident of 
Lanett since 1948. She was the widow of the late W. C. Boss Richardson and had 
resided at Lee Manor since 1987. She was a member of West Side Baptist Church of 
Lanett.
     Mrs. Richardson is survived by four daughters, Nan Hall of Thomaston, Ga., Myrtle 
Sides of Auburn, and Evelyn Cobb and Judy Smith of West Point, Ga.; two sons, Griggs 
Richardson of Lanett and Hershel Richardson of the Little Texas community, Macon 
County, Ala.; two brothers, C. B. Pollard of Lanett and Fred Pollard of Wedowee; 
15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
     Funeral services were at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Chapel in Valley at 11 a.m. 
on Saturday, Nov. 4, with burial in Resthaven Cemetery in Lanett, the Rev. Floyd Aikens 
and the Rev. Gerald Sykes officiating.
     Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home of Valley was in charge of arrangements.

Osval Curtis Hoss' Hand

     (ROANOKE) Funeral services for Osval Curtis Hoss Hand, 63, of Roanoke were 
Friday, Nov. 3, 1995, at 2 p.m. from Southside Baptist Church with the Revs. Tommy 
Smith and David Kelley officiating. Burial was at Randolph Memory Gardens.
     Mr. Hand died Wednesday, Nov. 1, at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange.
     A former resident of Fort Pierce, Fla., and a Randolph County native, he was born 
June 24, 1932, son of Robert Ervin and Leava Boyd Hand. He was a member of Southside 
Baptist Church and had been employed by Southeastern Printing.
     Survivors include his wife, Faye Kelley Hand of Roanoke; one daughter, Alecia 
Stewart of Roanoke; two sons, Rodney Osval Hand of Pompano Beach, Fla., and Kevin 
Curtis Hand of Honolulu; one sister, Edith Edmondson of Roanoke; one brother, Robert 
Hand, also of Roanoke and four grandchildren.
     Pallbearers were Steve Hand, Tim Edmondson, Eric Kelley, Donnie Kelley, Jamie 
Kelley, Lynn Burk, Stacy Mitchell and Anthony Gosdin.

Raymond Monroe Whatley

     (ROANOKE) Funeral services for Raymond Monroe Whatley, 53, of Roanoke were 
Friday, Nov. 10, 1995, at 3 p.m. at Highway Congregational Methodist Church, with the 
Revs. Wayne Jetton and Vernon Willis officiating. Burial ws in the adjoining cemetery.
     Mr. Whatley died Tuesday, Nov. 7, at his home.
     A Randolph County native, he was born Feb. 20, 1942, son of Rufus Monroe and 
Annie Lorene Spears Whatley. He was a member of Highway Congregational Methodist 
Church.
     Survivors include three daughters, Beth Ann Watts of Washington (state) and Cathy 
Lynn Mitchell and Carol Lea Mitchell of Roanoke; two grandchildren, Christopher Watts 
and Stephanie Watts of Washington; his mother, Lorene Roberts of Roanoke; three 
sisters, Sandra Farr and Susan Cofield of Roanoke and Jane Garner of Pine Mountain, 
Ga.; and several nieces and nephews.

Jimmy Paul Henry

     (BOWDON, Ga.) Funeral services for Jimmy Paul Henry, 42, of Bowdon, Ga., were 
Saturday, Nov. 11, 1995, at 11 a.m. at Benefield Funeral Home Chapel in Lineville with 
the Rev. Glenn Cooper officiating. Burial was in Clay County Memory Gardens.
     Mr. Henry died at his residence Wednesday, Nov. 8. He was a native of Randolph 
County but had lived in Bowdon for the last 13 years. He was a member of Center Chapel 
Baptist Church in Roanoke.
     Survivors include his wife, Donna Henry; son, Joel Aaron Henry; two daughters, April 
Michelle Peterson of Inman, S.C., and Paula Jean Stamm of Bowdon, Ga.; his mother, 
Barnelle Nix of Roanoke; three sisters, Jenny Rlea and Jane Henry of Fairfax and Joan 
Taylor of Lanett; three brothers, Richard Earl Nix of Montgomery, Jamie Henry of 
Langdale and Braxton Russell Nix of Rock Mills; and five grandsons.
     Pallbearers were Russell Rusty Nix, Ricky Nix, Alvin George, Jamie Taylor, Donald 
Daniel and Charles Chapman.
     Benefield Funeral Home of Lineville was in charge of arrangements.

Carolyn June Hester

     (HOGANSVILLE, Ga.) Carolyn June Hester, 40, of 475 Bailey Road in Hogansville, 
Ga., formerly of Roanoke, died Monday, Nov. 6, 1995, from injuries she received in an 
automobile accident on highway 27 south of Franklin, Ga., while on her way home from 
work.
     Ms. Hester, an employee of the Kex Plant of Milliken and Co., was born in Tallassee, 
Ala., and had lived in Hogansville for about two months. She was a Baptist. Her father, 
James Randel Haggard, preceded her in death.
     Survivors include her mother, Mrs. Carolyn Jeanette Baldwin of Montgomery; three 
sons, Lamar Scott of Woodland and Shane Scott and James Ellis of Hogansville; two 
brothers, James R. Haggard and Norman F. Haggard of Tallassee; two sisters, Mrs. Quita 
Ruff of Montgomery and Mrs. Barbara Robertson of Centre; one grandchild, Allen 
Michael Dudley; and several nieces and nephews.
     Funeral services were Thursday, Nov. 9, at Stribling-Lucas Funeral Home Chapel in 
LaGrange, Ga., with the Rev. Daryl Marbut officiating. Burial was in Shadowlawn 
Cemetery, LaGrange.

Forrest Ray Caldwell

     (CRAGFORD) Services for Forrest Ray Caldwell, 68, of Cragford were Monday, 
Nov. 6 at 2 p.m. at Corinth Baptist Church with Revs. Randy Anderson and Zenus 
Windsor officiating. Masonic graveside services were in the church cemetery with Clay 
County Funeral Home in charge.
     Mr. Caldwell died Saturday at University Hospitals in Birmingham.
     Survivors include his wife, Ayler Caldwell of Cragford; his mother, Erin Caldwell of 
Ashland; a daughter, Renee Brewer of Birmingham; two sons, Stan Caldwell of Lineville 
and Lavoy Caldwell of Roanoke; two step-sons, Jeffrey Austin of Bear Creek, N.C., and 
Marvin Austin of Shelby, N.C.; four sisters, Mary Alice Fargason of Cragford, Faye 
Caldwell of Ashland, Winnifred Burger of Portland, Ore., and Pauline Flippin of Los 
Angeles; [and] seven grandchildren.
     Pallbearers were deacons of Corinth Baptist Church. Honorary pallbearers were 
members of Masonic Lodge 216 in Lineville.
     A lifelong Clay County native, Mr. Caldwell was a retired sales manager for Wellborn 
Cabinet.
     He was a member of Masonic Lodge 216 in Lineville and a deacon of Corinth Baptist 
Church.

Daniel Pimelton Craft

     (LANETT) Daniel Pimelton (D. P.) Craft, 83, of Lanett died Monday, Nov. 13, 1995, 
at Lanier Memorial Hospital.
     A native of Randolph County, Mr. Craft had been a resident of Lanett for the past 37 
years and was a retired employee of West Point Pepperell's Lanett Mill. He was a member 
of Caver's Grove Congregational Christian Church of Randolph County.
     Survivors include his wife, Mattie Nobley Craft of Lanett; three daughter, Marie 
Meadows of Newell and Lorene Craft and Shirley Welch of Lanett; a sister, Mavis 
Parkerson of LaGrange, Ga.; a brother, the Rev. Chester Craft of Molena, Ga.; nine 
grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
     Funeral services will be at Levens Chapel Baptist Church in Randolph County at 1 p.m. 
on Wednesday, Nov. 15, with burial in the adjoining cemetery. The Rev. Chester Craft and 
the Rev. Ward Doss will officiate.
     Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to one's favorite 
charity in Mr. Craft's memory.
     Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home of Lanett was in charge of arrangements.

Mattie Ruth Cofield

     (COLLEGE PARK, Ga.) Mattie Ruth Cofield, 72, of College Park, Ga., died Monday, 
Nov. 6, 1995, at South Fulton Medical Center, East Point, Ga. Mrs. Cofield was a native 
of Chambers County, Ala.
     Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Evelyn J. Sewell, Ms. Annie J. Cofield and Mrs. 
Mary V. Willis of Atlanta, Ga., and Ms. Brenda Cofield of College Park; three sons, Joe 
Cofield and A. C. Cofield Jr. of Roanoke, Ala., and Major Cofield of College Park; one 
sister, Mrs. Minnie L. Hutchinson of College Park; 11 grandchildren and 12 great- 
grandchildren.
     Services for Mrs. Cofield were Friday, Nov. 10, at 2 p.m. from Canaan Baptist Church, 
Roanoke (Welch) with the Rev. Rodney K. Turner officiating. Interment was in the 
Canaan Baptist Church cemetery.
     Arrangements were by Silmon Mortuary of Roanoke.

Jesse Kline Hicks

     (ROCK MILLS) Funeral services for Jesse Kline Hicks, 66, of Rock Mills were 
Tuesday, Nov. 21, 1995, at 2:30 p.m. from Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with the Revs. 
Louis Olds and O. J. Hodnett officiating. Burial was at Randolph Memory Gardens.
     Mr. Hicks died suddenly on Sunday, Nov. 19, at Randolph County Hospital.
     A native and longtime resident of Randolph County, he was born Dec. 14, 1928, son of 
Glover and Annie Rae Keeble Hicks. A navy veteran of the Korean War and a member of 
Center Chapel Baptist Church, he had been a self-employed builder.
     Survivors include his wife, Nancy Foster Hicks of Rock Mills; two daughters, Dianna 
Morrison of Roanoke and Elaine Anthony of Rock Mills; two sons, Ken Hicks and Robbie

     (WINCHESTER, Tenn.) Esker Willis Yates, 81, of Winchester, Tenn., formerly of 
Rt. 1, Woodland, died Friday, Nov. 17, 1995, in Southern Tennessee Medical Center, 
Winchester, after an extended illness.
     Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 19, at Providence Baptist Church, 
Woodland, with the Rev. Jack Rice, Bro. Joe Rutherford and Rev. Tony Morris 
officiating. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery.
     Mr. Yates is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Ann Yates of Winchester; two daughters, 
Judy Yates of Indian Rock Beach, Fla., and Jane Brown of Carrollton, Tex.; two sisters, 
Bernice McManus of Woodland and Lucille Brady of Anniston; one brother, Roy Yates of 
Woodland; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
     Pallbearers were Michael Rampy, Stephen Rampy, Mark Brown, Tim Keipling, Arnold 
Garner and Bruce Garner.
     Mr. Yates was a native of Randolph County, born on Nov. 23, 1913, son of Lester W. 
Yates and Edna Gertrude Daniel Yates. He moved to Winchester in 1990, having lived 
until then in Randolph County, Ala. He married Mary Ann Garner on Aug. 11, 1935, was 
a veteran of World War II and a deacon of Providence Baptist Church since 1925, and 
was retired from Bremen-Bowdon Investment Co. of Bowdon, Ga.

Henry Marshall Gosdin

     (DOUGLASVILLE, Ga.) Henry Marshall Gosdin, 94, of Douglasville, Ga., died 
Saturday, Nov. 18, 1995, following a lengthy illness.
     He was born in Randolph County, Ala., Jan. 18, 1901, son of the late Henry and 
Martha Hester Gosdin. Mr. Gosdin was a member of Sardis Baptist Church and was a 
retired farmer.
     He was preceded in death by his wife, Idell Mitchell, son Alews Gosdin, and two 
daughters, Betty Yates and Faye Lounette Gosdin.
     Survivors include three daughters, Glema Cavender and Shirley Shartzer of Bowdon, 
Ga., and Christine Stuman of Douglasville; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 
three great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Blake Gosdin of Roanoke.
     Funeral services were Monday, Nov. 20, at 3 p.m. at Sardis Baptist Church, with the 
Rev. W. M. Wiggins officiating. Music was by the church choir and David Parmer. 
Pallbearers were Steve Caldwell, Larry Traylor, Donnie Gosdin, David Carter, Lee 
McKenzie and Chris Lovvorn. Interment was in the church cemetery.

     (ROANOKE) Funeral services for Elsie Jane Harlan, 73, of Roanoke were Monday, 
Nov. 20, 1995, at 2 p.m. from Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Tim Teague 
officiating. Burial was at Randolph Memory Gardens.
     Mrs. Harlan died Saturday, Nov. 18, at Randolph County Hospital in Roanoke.
     A Cleburne County native, she was born Sept. 5, 1922, daughter of Allen and Leslie 
Adamson Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice J. Harlan.
     Survivors include two sisters, Aley Cosper and Faye Waldrep of Roanoke, and a 
brother, Ray Smith of Roanoke.

Catherine Crowder

     (LANETT) Catherine Crowder, 69, of Lanett died Tuesday, Nov. 14, 1995, at Lanier 
Memorial Hospital in Valley.
     Mrs. Crowder was born in Chambers County, Ala., on Feb. 25, 1926. She was a retired 
employee of Dixie Mills in LaGrange and was a Baptist.
     Survivors include three sons, Robert Lee Crowder Jr. of Columbus, Ga., John David 
Crowder of Lanett and Charles E. Crowder of LaGrange, Ga.; one brother, Olin Dutton 
of Roanoke; 11 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
     The funeral was at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley at 2 p.m. 
Thursday, Nov. 16. Burial was at Oakwood Cemetery in Lanett, the Rev. Eugene Striblin 
officiating.
     Arrangements were by Johnson Brown-Service in Valley.

at his residence after an extended illness.

Methodist Church with the Revs. John Reese, David Daniel and Roy Connell officiating.

     Mr. Herren is survived by his wife, Mrs. Elsie Herren of Newell; one daughter, Mrs. 
Jo Anne Blanks of Woodland; two sons, Paul Herren and Billy Herren of Newell; one sister, 
Mrs. Ellen Gross of Woodland; one brother, Robert L. Herren of Woodland; 
10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

Terry Dukes, Sonny Manner and Dale Rush. Honorary pallbearers were C. B. Butler,

     Mr. Herren, a native and lifelong resident of Randolph County, was born on March 6, 
1910, son of Daniel A. Herren and Ada Lovvorn Herren. He was a deacon of Harmony 
Congregational Methodist Church and was a retired farmer.

Rosalyn Handley Lane McMurray

     (ROANOKE) Funeral services for Rosalyn Handley Lane McMurray, 71, of Roanoke 
were Monday, Nov. 27, 1995, at 3:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church, with Dr. Douglas 
Turner and the Rev. Milton Booth officiating. Burial was at Cedarwood Cemetery.
     Mrs. McMurray died Sunday, Nov. 26, at her home.
     A lifelong resident of Randolph County, she was born Sept. 30, 1924, daughter of Paul 
Faulkner and Margaret Evelyn Handley Lane. She was a graduate of Wesleyan College and had 
retired after having taught English at Handley High School for 20 years. She was an active 
member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Literary Club, Silhouette Club and D.A.R., and for a time was 
society editor for The Roanoke Leader.
     Survivors include one daughter, Lane McMurray Saunders of Alex City; three sons, 
James Leonard McMurray Jr., Dr. Paul Augustus McMurray and Thomas Anglin McMurray II, 
all of Roanoke; one sister, Margaret Lane Shaffer of Alex City[;] and ten grandchildren.

Misty Dawn McCullough

     (DALLAS, Ga.) Funeral services for Misty Dawn McCollough, 25, of Dallas, Ga., 
formerly of Rock Mills, were Wednesday, Nov. 22, 1995, at 3 p.m. from Faith Baptist 
Church in Roanoke with the Rev. S. T. Janney officiating. Burial was at Randolph 
Memory Gardens.
     Miss McCullough died Monday, Nov. 20, from injuries sustained in an automobile 
accident in Lithia Springs, Ga.
     A Troup County native, she was born April 11, 1970, and lived in LaGrange until 
age 16. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church.
     Survivors include her mother and step-father, Tommie and Edward Sanders of 
Roanoke; father and step-mother, Danny and Lorene McCullough of Douglasville, Ga.; 
her grandmother, Dorothy May of Roanoke; two sister, Jenny Sanders and Jessica 
Sanders, both of Roanoke; and a brother, Eddie Sanders of Rock Mills.

     (GRAHAM) Flora Johnson, 93, of Rt. 1, Graham, died Monday, Nov. 20, 1995, 
at Heritage Home, Roanoke, after a short illness.

Runyan, Monroe Wiggins and Thurman Henderson officiating. Burial was in the adjoining

     Mrs. Johnson is survived by one brother-in-law, Bob Johnson of Woodland, and a host

     Mrs. Johnson, a native and lifelong resident of Randolph County, was preceded in 
death by her husband, Archie Johnson. She was retired as a supervisor at Sewell Mfg. Co. 
and was a homemaker. She was the oldest member of Shiloh Baptist Church.

the Rev. Charles Williams officiating. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery.
     Mrs. Wortham is survived by her husband, Thomas Willie Wortham of Wedowee; one 
sister-in-law, Lerlene McCarley of Huntsville; [and] a host of nieces and nephews.
     Pallbearers will be John Landers, Bill Landers, Roy Doug Benefield, Wortham Bailey, 
Jerry Wortham, Terry Sheppard, Winston Benefield, and Ronald Wortham.
     Mrs. Wortham will lie in state at Benefield Funeral Home, Wedowee[,] and the family 
will receive friends after 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28, until time for services.
     Mrs. Wortham was a native and lifelong resident of Randolph County. She was born 
on April 9, 1913, daughter of John Lamar McCarley and Donna Yarbrough McCarley. 
She was retired from Palm Beach Company and was a member of the O.E.S. Roanoke 
chapter and a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

     (NORTH BROOKFIELD, Mass.) Andrew J. Camp, 69, of North Brookfield, Mass., 
died Thursday, Nov. 23, 1995, in Mary Lane Hospital, Ware, Mass. Mr. Camp was 
formerly from Randolph County.
     Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 26, in Benefield Funeral Home Chapel, 
Wedowee. Burial was in Pine Grove Cemetery, Malone.
     Mr. Camp is survived by his wife, Joanne G. Camp of North Brookfield; his mother, 
Mrs. Bertha C. Wilkinson Camp of Douglasville, Ga.; three brothers, Bud H. Camp of 
Ellenwood, Ga., Bob Camp of Douglasville, and Bill Camp of Lithia Springs, Ga.; two 
grandchildren; one stepson, Mark L. Johns of Manassas, Va.; one step-daughter, Raeann 
M. Caron of North Brookfield; and a host of nieces and nephews.
     Pallbearers were Tom Wilkinson, Terry Wilkinson, David Camp, Scott Camp, Eddy 
Shaw and Devan Seabough.
     Mr. Camp was born in Malone, the son of Stonewall J. Camp and Bertha C. Wilkinson 
Camp. He worked for the board of education of Prince George's County, Maryland, as a 
bus driver for many years. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force with 21 years of service 
and was a charter member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars of 
Clinton, Md. He was married to Betty Jo Wall for many years until her death in 1988. 
He is a graduate of Prince George's Community College.

Mitchell of Anniston, and by six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Hammett and Franklin Murphy.
     Mrs. Morrison was a native of Cleburne County, born on July 4, 1905, daughter of 
Billy Echols and Laura West Echols. She was a homemaker and a member of Jordan's 
Chapel Congregational Methodist Church.
     Mrs. Morrison will lie in state at Benefield Funeral Home, Wedowee, and will lie in 
state at the church for one hour beginning at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 29.

Wedowee; three grandchildren; one step-daughter, Kimberly Sledge of LaGrange, Ga.; 
one step-grandson; two sisters, Nancy Cummings of Bowdon, Ga., and Sally Sikes of 
Oxford; four brothers, Blake Gross of Wedowee, Bob Gross of Lanett, Jack Gross of 
LaGrange, Ga., and Sam Gross of Bowdon, Ga.; five nieces and five nephews.
     Pallbearers were Shane Strain, Dave Strain, Larry Brown, Ronald Holloway, Robert

     Born Nov. 14, 1929, the son of Ellison Gross and Essie Lee Kirby Gross, Mr. Gross 
was a native and lifelong resident of Randolph County. He was a veteran of the Korean 
Conflict and was retired from the Alabama Highway Department. He was a member of 
Wedowee Masonic Lodge, F&AM 93.

     Mr. Estes died Wednesday, Nov. 22, at the V. A. Nursing Home in Decatur, Ga. He 
was a native and lifelong resident of Randolph County, a retired farmer, a veteran of 
World War II, and a member of Malone Baptist Church.
     He is survived by one daughter, Lorene Wright of Marietta; two sons, Kenneth Estes 
of Jonesboro, Ga., and Larry Estes of Wadley; four grandchildren and three great-

     Mrs. Olinger died Thursday, Nov. 23, at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika after

     A Randolph County native and lifelong resident of Roanoke, she was born Feb. 7, 
1921, daughter of Charles Homer and Mary Lou Smith Bennett. She was a member of 
Bethany Lime Christian Church and had been employed by Roanoke Fashions.
     Survivors include her husband, Robert L. Bob Olinger of Roanoke; four sisters, 
Odelle Bennett, Rosebud Stanford and Minnie Lou Modjeski, all of Roanoke, and Marie 
Dudley of Albuquerque, N.M.; two brothers, Charles Cary Bennett of Roanoke and 
Walter Burton Bennett of Valley; and several nieces and nephews.

Church with the Rev. David Jones officiating. Burial was in the New Hope West Baptist

     Mr. Lashley is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ann A. Lashley of Wadley; one son, Vernon 
Lashley of Wadley; one daughter-in-law, Vicky Lashley of Wadley; two grandchildren, 
Matthew and William Lashley of Wadley; one sister, Ruby Pugh of Tuscaloosa; and a host 
of nieces and nephews.

     Mr. Lashley was a native and lifelong resident of Randolph County. He was born on

Murla Johnson

     (LAGRANGE, Ga.) Murla Johnson, 81, of LaGrange, Ga., died Sunday, Nov. 26, 
1995, at the LaGrange home of her granddaughter, Charlotte Pierce, after several weeks 
of illness.
     A native of Lee County, Ala., she was the daughter of the late Gordon and Daisy Davis 
Sheppard. She retired from Hillside Plant of Callaway Mills Company, LaGrange, and had 
lived most of her life in LaGrange. She was a member of East LaGrange Baptist Church.
     Funeral services were at Hunter-Allen-Myhand Chapel, LaGrange, on Tuesday, Nov. 
28, with the Rev. Jesse Lee Gordy and the Rev. Heflin Daniel officiating. Burial was in 
Restlawn Memory Gardens, LaGrange.
     Surviving are one daughter-in-law, Bonnell Knight of Ringgold, Ga.; three 
granddaughters; two grandsons; 10 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; 
two brothers, Albert Sheppard of LaGrange and Ralph Sheppard of Roopville, Ga.; and 
several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her husband, Amos 
Johnson.

     Mr. Norred was born in Randolph County[,] Ala., June 21, 1924. He was of the 
Baptist faith.
     Surviving are his wife, Julia Henry Norred; a daughter, Gloria Norred Blair of 
Conyers; two sons, Steven Larry Norred of Newnan, Ga., and William Keith Norred of 
Jacksonville, Fla.; a brother, the Rev. Truman Norred of Jacksonville, Fla.; six sisters, 
Nettie Harris of Talladega, Margie Bishop, Jo Richardson and Willie Pearl Cagle of 
Roanoke, Billy Fay Gay of Wadley, and Patricia Stringfellow of Florida; three 
grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

     (PROSPERITY, S.C.) Thomas F. Rick Shreve, Jr., 38, of 219 J. L. Koon Road, 
Prosperity, died Friday, Nov. 24, 1995, in Richland Memorial Hospital.
     Mr. Shreve was born in LaGrange, Ga., son of Thomas F. Tom and Janell Stewart 
Shreve. He was a 1979 graduate of Clemson University and became a certified public 
accountant in 1981. He was a former controller [sic - comptroller?] for Newberry College, 
Newberry, S.C., was an accountant for the University of South Carolina, and was a 
member of Central Baptist Church in Newnan, Ga.
     Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas F. Shreve, Sr., of Wadley, Ala.; 
two sisters, Sharon S. Hite of Mebane, N.C., and Kathryn S. Wood of Aiken, S.C.; and 
his grandmother, Lily Mae Stewart of Newnan, Ga., formerly of Wadley.
     Visitation will be at the home of his parents in Wadley from 6 to 9 p.m. CST 
Wednesday, Nov. 29. Memorial services for Mr. Shreve will be at 2 p.m. CST Thursday, 
Nov. 30, at Almond United Methodist Church, Wadley.
