Richard Richie officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery. Mrs. Strickland will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to services. Mrs. Strickland died Sunday, Feb. 1, at Randolph Medical Center. Survivors include one daughter, Gail Heard; a sister, Laura Bell Wright; a grandson; a granddaughter; and three great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Bobby Wright, Matthew Mitchell, David Mitchell, Wayne Edmondson, Gary Wright and Lee Wright. A lifelong Roanoke resident, Mrs. Strickland was born July 31, 1928, daughter of Carl and Alice Aldridge Ussery. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church and had been employed with Roanoke Fashions. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery. Mrs. Adamson will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to services. Mrs. Adamson died Monday, Feb. 2, at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange. Survivors include two sisters, Virginia Velona of Alexandria, La., and Jean Wood of Temple, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Adamson was a former resident of Roanoke and was born July 26, 1916, in Tallapoosa County, daughter of F. Barker and Alice Patterson Saltsman. She was a member of Bethany Lime Christian Church and had been employed as a school teacher for 30 years with LaGrange City Schools. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elbredge G. Adamson. Born Aug. 26, 1925, in Randolph County, Mrs. Aiken was a retired employee of WestPoint Stevens Langdale Mill. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. She was a member of Shawmut United Methodist Church. Mrs. Aiken was the daughter of the late Ethel Virdie Moore McManus and Joseph Edward McManus. Mr. Messer was born in Randolph County July 17, 1947. He was a member of Ava United Methodist Church. He graduated from Auburn University in 1969 and was retired from TVA. He was retired from Randolph County Road Department as a truck driver and was a Baptist by faith. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Jimmie Lue Strain; and two brothers, Chester Hanson and Luther Hanson. __________ Rose Lovett Gunter (BIRMINGHAM) Rose Lovett Gunter, 71, of Birmingham, formerly of Lanett, died Thursday evening, Jan. 1, 2004, at George H. Lanier Memorial Hospital in Valley. Funeral services were Sunday, Jan. 4, at 4 p.m. at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley with Dr. Hugh Richardson officiating. Burial followed in Hillcrest Cemetery in Lanett. Mrs. Gunter is survived by her husband, Keith D. Gunter; one son, Keith Gunter Jr. of Birmingham; and one sister, Betty Lovett Cunningham of Douglasville, Ga., and Standing Rock. Born Feb. 28, 1932, in Early County, Ga., Mrs. Gunter had been a resident of the Birmingham area for the past 47 years. She was an artist, woodcarver and all-around good cook. She was in the second group of nurse's aides to be taught at George H. Lanier Memorial Hospital in the 1950s. Mrs. Gunter was a member of First Baptist Church of Centerpoint. She was the daughter of the late Rosa Lee Hartley Lovett and James Earl Lovett. Pollock Sr. Arrangements were by Resthaven Funeral Home, Lanett. __________ Edmond Lee Huckleberry (LAGRANGE, Ga.) The Rev. Edmond Lee Huckleberry, 72, of LaGrange, Ga., died Thursday, Feb. 5, 2004. He was born on May 10, 1931, in Greenfield, Ind., and was the son of the late Robert and Eva Huckleberry. He graduated from Maxwell High School and joined the U.S. Army in 1951, and served his country from more than a year in Korea. In 1954, he married June Stroud, and they returned to Indiana, where they had five loving children. The Rev. Huckleberry was a retired minister who served churches in Vevey, Ind., Lewisville, Ind., and Straughn, Ind. He served as Sunday school teacher and deacon at Baptist Tabernacle for many years. In addition to his wife, Rev. Huckleberry is survived by five children, Mike Huckleberry, Debra Langford, Kathy Mercer and Robert Huckleberry, all of LaGrange, and Jeannie Edmondson of Roanoke; a special daughter, Sherry Huckleberry of LaGrange; 11 grandchildren and three great- grandchildren. Burial followed in Randolph Memory Gardens. Mrs. Hadaway is survived by one son, Warner A. Rainwater of Fairfax; one daughter, Gwendolyn Pike of Marietta, Ga.; one stepson, Wendell Hadaway of Fairfax; seven grandchildren, 15 great- grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren. Born April 14, 1914, in Colquitt County, Ga., Mrs. Hadaway was an employee of WestPoint Pepperell for more than 10 years. She worked at the Fairfax Mill. She was a member of Hopewell United Methodist Church. Mrs. Hadaway was preceded in death by her husband, Howard L. Hadaway; one stepson, Larry Hadaway; and one brother, G. W. Baggett. She was the daughter of the late George W. and Minnie Gray Baggett. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Hopewell United Methodist Church in her memory. "Captain Jack" Perry, 67, of Valley died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2004, at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika. Funeral services were Sunday, Feb. 22, at 2 p.m. EST at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley with the Rev. Billy Clark officiating. Burial followed in New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Perry is survived by one daughter, Dianna McMahon of Eugene, Ore.; one son, Michael Perry of Morgantown, Pa.; one brother, Walter Perry of Lancaster, Tenn.; two sisters, Gail Blackmon of Fredonia and Janice Abney of Valley; five grandchildren and five nephews. Born May 11, 1936, in Randolph County, Mr. Perry was a retired member of the U.S. Army with 20 years of service. He served in Korea and Vietnam. He was an avid fisherman. He was a good storyteller with a sense of humor. Mr. Perry was a caring man who was respected by all. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to one's favorite charity in his memory. Mr. Bennett is survived by one son, William Michael Bennett; and one niece, Marjorie Burnside of Lanett. Born Dec. 31, 1912, in Randolph County, Mr. Bennett was a retired employee of WestPoint Pepperell's Fairfax Mill, with many years of service with the company. He was a member of Fairview Baptist Church. Mr. Bennett was the son of the late Bertha Mae Chatham Bennett and William Penn Bennett. The family will receive friends at Benefield Funeral Home in Wedowee on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Dr. Lovvorn passed away Monday, Feb. 23, at Bright-Glade Convalescent Home in Memphis. Survivors include a daughter, Linda Neill of Memphis; a son, Travis Lovvorn of Bradenton, Fla.; two sisters, Nellie Greene of Peachtree City, Ga., and Deane Frazier of East Point, Ga.; and two grandchildren. Dr. Lovvorn was a Randolph County native and was a veterinarian for 65 years. He was a graduate of Auburn University School of Veterinary Science. David Pittman Henry, 85, of Bainbridge, Ga., died Monday, Feb. 23, 2004, at Memorial Manor in Bainbridge. Services will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 25, at First Baptist Church in Bainbridge, with burial at Oak City Cemetery. Dr. Leroy C. Spinks will officiate. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. He served 20 years in the U.S. Air Force, from which he retired as master sergeant, and moved to Bainbridge, in 1963. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 10 years before retiring. He was a member of First Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and a member of the Baraca Sunday School class. He was also a member of the Garden Club and removed trees for many families in the Bainbridge area. He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Buckalew Henry, and a grandson, Doug Henry. Survivors include six sons, David Pittman Henry of Birmingham, Roby L. Henry of Dallas, Texas, Sam A. Henry of Glenwood, Ga., Hugh D. Henry of Boardman, Ohio, Jerry T. Henry of Woodstock, Ga., and Frank M. Henry of Gainesville, Ga.; a daughter, Julie H. Crozier of Woodstock, Ga.; a brother, James Henry of Birmingham; two sisters, Sadie Rearden of West Point, Ga., and Marilena Willoughby of Smiths; 18 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.
