OBITUARIES:

Charles Worth Jordan

 (ROANOKE) Services for Charles Worth Jordan, 91, of Roanoke will be
Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Roanoke, with 
Dr. Bill Dean and Dr. Doug Turner officiating. Burial will follow at 
Randolph Memory Gardens.
 Mr. Jordan will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to services.
 Mr. Jordan died Friday, Jan. 2, at Oconee Regional Medical Center in
Milledgeville, Ga.
 Survivors include his wife, Helene Collins Jordan of Roanoke; a daughter,
Jane Jordan Gammon of Trion, Ga.; two sons, Bill Jordan of Brea, Calif., and
Charles W. Jordan of Concord, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Sara Moore of Orlando,
Fla.; a sister, Avon Williams of LaGrange, Ga.; six grandchildren; two
step-grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two
step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
 Pallbearers will be Hookie Young, James Sheppard, Lavoy Caldwell, Spec
Bonner, Sam Shelnutt and Tommy Yarbrough. Honorary pallbearers will be friends
from the military.
 A lifelong Randolph County resident, Mr. Jordan was born July 26, 1912, son
of Charles Webb and Ida Kennedy Jordan. He was an Army veteran of World War II
and the Korean War and retired from a career in the military. He was also a
retired mail carrier for the Roanoke post office, a member of First Baptist
Church and a Sunday school teacher. He was preceded in death by his first wife,
Inez Florence Jordan.
 Arrangements are by Quattlebaum Funeral Home, Roanoke.

Irene Louise Wright McManus

 (WEDOWEE) Services for Irene Louise Wright McManus, 92, of Wedowee, were
Friday, Jan. 2, 2004, at 11 a.m. at Liberty Grove Congregational Methodist
Church with the Rev. Greg Norred officiating. Burial followed in the adjoining
cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home of Wedowee in charge.
 Mrs. McManus died Tuesday, Dec. 30, at Northeast Alabama Regional Medical
Center in Anniston.
 Survivors include a daughter, Charlotte McManus of Huntsville; five sons,
Sherrell McManus of Roanoke, James. T. "Tommy" McManus of Anniston, Benny Ray
McManus of Spencer, Tenn., Wilson Wright McManus of Huntsville and Phillip
Eugene "Gene" McManus of Kingsport, Tenn.; two sisters, Mrs. Annie McKeen of
LaGrange, Ga., and Mrs. Clara Kerr of Auburn; a sister-in-law, 13 grandchildren
and 12 great-grandchildren.
 Mrs. McManus's grandchildren served as pallbearers.
 Mrs. McManus was a native and lifelong resident of Randolph County, born Nov.
15, 1911, the daughter of James W. and Josie H. Wright, in the Leven's
community. She was baptized in the Little Tallapoosa River and became a member
of Cavers Grove Christian Church and later a member of Leven's Baptist Church. 
In 1935 she moved to the Friendship community, where she resided until her
death. She was preceded in death by her parents; her spouse, Ferris Sherrel
"Fed" McManus; three sisters, Edna Wright, Lula Reaves and Lena W. Rampy; and
three brothers, Jeptha Wright, Sam Wright and John Wright.

Jessie Odell Bolan Stewart

 (LANETT) Mrs. Jessie Stewart died Jan. 1, 2004, at West Georgia Medical
Center in LaGrange following a lengthy illness.
 Mrs. Stewart leaves behind her husband of 74 years, Allen Stewart, who
resides at the Florence Hand Home in LaGrange. Mr. and Mrs. Stewart lived in
Lanett for 49 years after moving from Rock Mills in 1953. She was a member of
the First United Methodist Church of Lanett.
 Mrs. Stewart was a loving mother of six children, Roy Gherson Stewart, Betty
Stewart Morris, Jimmy Jerrell Stewart, Calvin Jackson Stewart and Allen Jerry
Stewart, all of the Lanett-Valley area, and an infant, Ruby, who preceded her in
death. She also leaves behind her brother Nick Bolan of Randolph County.
 She took joy in being a part of the lives of her children and their spouses
whom she loved as her own. She enjoyed her 17 grandchildren, 23
great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. She will be dearly
missed by all of her family and friends who found her home a loving and
comfortable place and visited often.
 Mrs. Stewart was born in Guntersville, Marshall County, Ala., Dec. 22, 1911. 
She was the daughter of Newton Leroy and Fannie Latham Bolan who preceded her in
death. Five brothers and sisters also preceded her in death.
 Funeral services were Saturday, Jan. 3, at 11 a.m. in the Chapel at Johnson
Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley with interment following at Hillcrest
Cemetery in Lanett. The Rev. Donnie-Erwin Brown and the Rev. Bill Williams
officiated. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to First United
Methodist Church of Lanett or Plant City United Methodist Church.

Emma Sue Nolen

 (FIVE POINTS) Emma Sue Nolen, 48, of Five Points died Thursday, Jan. 1, 2004,
at West Georgia Medical Center, LaGrange.
 Services were Friday, Jan. 2, at 2 p.m. at Lanett First Baptist Church with
Dr. Hugh Richardson officiating. Burial was at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery
in the Welch community.
 Born Oct. 12, 1955, in Randolph County, Mrs. Nolen had retired from West
Point Stevens Langdale Mill with 25 years of service with the company. She
loved fishing, the outdoors and reading scriptures. She was devoted to and
constantly encouraged her family. She was a member of Lanett First Baptist
Church.
 She is survived by her husband of 28 years, Ricky Nolen; a sister, Mary Lou
Laws of Rock Mills; her father, J. W. Siggers of Waverly; her mother, Arene Pike
of Rock Mills her grandmother, Suzie Pike of Rock Mills; a sister-in-law and
brother-in-law; one nephew; five nieces; two great-nieces; and one great-nephew. 
She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Albert Pike and Walt Siggers; and
her grandmother, Mary Emma Siggers.
 The family respectfully declines the honor of flowers and asks that memorials
be made to Lanett First Baptist Church or to the Cystic Fibrosis Association in
her memory.
 Arrangements were by Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home, Valley.

Erbis D. Scott

 (LAGRANGE, Ga.) Erbis D. Scott, 78, of LaGrange, Ga., died Sunday, Jan. 4,
2004, at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange.
 Mr. Scott, born March 18, 1925, in Randolph County, Ala., was the son of the
late Hiram and Beulah Brown Scott. He had lived in LaGrange most of his life
and was an Army veteran of World War II. He retired from the Live Oak Plant of
Milliken & Company.
 Survivors include two daughters, Diane Brown of LaGrange and Carol Yohn of
Five Points; three grandchildren; a sister, Erma Lashley of LaGrange; and
several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years,
Dorothy Segrest Scott.
 Funeral services were Tuesday, Jan. 6, at 2 p.m. in the Hunter-Allen-Myhand
Chapel in LaGrange with the Rev. S. T. Janney officiating. Burial was in
Shadowlawn Cemetery.

Dorothy Mae Cummings Story

 (WEDOWEE) Services for Dorothy Mae Cummings Story, 71, of Wedowee were
Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, at 2 p.m. at Highway First Congregational Methodist
Church with the Revs. Vernon. Willis, Wayne Jeton and Harold Cummings
officiating. Burial followed at Highway Memory Gardens with Benefield Funeral
Home of Wedowee in charge.
 Mrs. Story died Thursday, Jan. 1, at Clay County Hospital in Ashland.
 Survivors include three daughters, Rebecca Ann Smith of Valley, Susan Darlene
Cater of Roanoke and Benita Rollins a Wedowee; a son, Robert Earl Story of
Warner Robins, Ga.; two sisters, Wilma Mickler of Fayetteville, N.C., and Leona
Jenkins of Valley; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
 Pallbearers were Jason Cummings, Bobby Young, Max Cummings, Caren Cummings,
Dion Peoples and Rudd Cummings.
 A Randolph County native, Mrs. Story was born Feb. 16, 1932, daughter of Oye
and Annie Holloway Cummings. She was a homemaker and a member of Highway First
Congregational Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband,
Robert E. Story; two sisters, Juanita Pool and Gladys Young; and two brothers,
Winston and Charlie Will Cummings.

Owen Nathaniel Shelnutt

 (ROANOKE) Services for Owen Nathaniel Shelnutt, 82, of Roanoke were Friday,
Jan. 2, 2004, at 11 a.m. at Antioch Christian Church with the Rev. Wes Kinsey
and the Rev. Ken May officiating. Burial followed in the adjoining cemetery
with Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge.
 Mr. Shelnutt died Wednesday, Dec. 31, at East Alabama Medical Center in
Opelika.
 Survivors include his wife, Nell Landers Shelnutt of Roanoke; two sons, Dr.
Sam Shelnutt of Roanoke and Joe Shelnutt of Mt. Meigs; and four grandchildren.
 Pallbearers were Wade Shelnutt, Chase Shelnutt, David Meddick, Jim Lane,
Jimmy Landers and Dave Landers.
 A lifelong resident of this area, Mr. Shelnutt was born Nov. 22, 1921, son 
of Edgar Lee and Mammie Cook Shelnutt. He was a World War II Navy veteran, a
member of Roanoke Christian Church and had been employed as a veteran service
officer with the state of Alabama for 30 years.

James Roger 'Meatball' Nolan

 (NEW CASTLE, Del.) James Roger "Meatball" Nolan, 51, a resident of New
Castle, Del., formerly of Roanoke, died on Sunday, Dec. 28, 2003, at Millcroft
Nursing Facility in Newark, Del.
 Funeral services for Mr. Nolan were on Saturday, Jan. 3, at 2 p.m. at First
Missionary Baptist Church in Roanoke, with the Revs. Gilbert Staples and
Lathonia Wright officiating. Interment followed in East Roanoke Cemetery. 
Roanoke Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
 Mr. Nolan is survived by his wife, Geri L. Nolan of New Castle; eight
children, James R. Nolan Jr., Patrick Nolan, Shanta Calloway, Rochelle Calloway
and Santwania Thompson of Roanoke, Shandrel Daniels of Fort Dix, N.J., Tanya
Tucker of New Castle and Nathaniel Henry of Atlanta; two sisters, Catherine
White and Dicie Sims of Roanoke; and two brothers, Walter and Angelo Nolan of
Roanoke; and 19 grandchildren.
 Pallbearers were Jefferson Nolan, Dennis White, Randy Nolan, Jimmy Ware,
Walter Henry and Curtis Joiner. Honorary pallbearers were Walter Nolan, Alfred
Hill, Samuel Hopkins, Baine Woods and Jonathan White.

Rudene Bowen

 (VALLEY) Rudene Bowen, 76, of Valley died Thursday, Jan. 1, 2004, at West
Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange.
 Funeral services were Sunday, Jan. 4, at 2 p.m. at Lion of Judah Church in
Huguley with the Revs. Shon Bryan, Milford McClain and David Copeland
officiating. Burial followed in the Potash Cemetery in Randolph County.
 Mrs. Bowen is survived by one son, Kenny Bowen of Lanett; three daughters,
Kathy Killcreas of Bay Minette, Karen Higgins of Athens, Tenn., and Katrina
Crane of Valley; six sisters-in-law; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild;
and a host of nieces and nephews.
 Born April 21, 1927, in Randolph County, Mrs. Bowen loved people, enjoyed
cooking and attending her church, Lion of Judah. She was preceded in death by
her husband, Charlie Durrell Bowen. She was the daughter of the late Matilda
Cantrell Spears and James Monroe Spears.
 Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Lion of Judah Church in
her memory.
 Arrangements were by Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home, Valley.

William 'Bud' Harvel

 (LAGRANGE, Ga.) William "Bud" Harvel, 77, of LaGrange, Ga., died Wednesday,
Dec. 31, 2003, at Twin Fountains Nursing Home.
 Mr. Harvel, born Sept. 16, 1926, in Randolph County, Ala., was the son of Eva
Harvel of LaGrange and the late J.D. Harvel. He had lived in LaGrange most of
his life and was retired from the Kex Plant of Milliken and Company.
 Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his wife of 53 years, Mamie Lee
Harvel; a daughter, Cathy Barnes of LaGrange; a granddaughter; three sisters,
Margie Hayes of Albany, Ga., and Bobbie Dantin and Maude Duhon, both of
Louisiana; and several nieces and nephews.
 Graveside services were 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, in Shadowlawn Cemetery with
the Rev. Leonard Hodge officiating.
 Arrangements were by Hunter-Allen-Myhand Funeral Home, LaGrange.

Wanda Gentry Bevilacquer

 (FREDERICKSBURG, Va.) Memorial services for Wanda Gentry Bevilacquer, 62, of
Fredericksburg, Va., were Sunday, Jan. 4, 2003, at 11 a.m. at Liberty Baptist
Church in Ashland with the Rev. Ben Rosser officiating and Clay County Funeral
Home in charge. Full military services were Nov. 16 in Quantico, Va. Burial
was in the National Cemetery in Virginia.
 Mrs. Bevilacquer, died Nov. 12 at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg.
 Survivors include her husband, retired Marine Gen. Allen Bevilacquer; two
daughters, April Downs of Fredericksburg and Danielle Allen of Cory, N.C.; her
mother, Sue Pearson of Ashland; a brother, Larry Weems of Wadley; and three
grandchildren.
 Mrs. Bevilacquer, a Calhoun County native, was a member of the Presbyterian
Church. She served as a Marine for two years and a marine wife for 32 years. 
She had been employed by Russell Manufacturing Company of Alexander City. She
was preceded in death by her father, James Roy Gentry; two sisters, Jimmy Sue
Gentry and Sonja Gentry; and her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Hawthorne.
 Contributions may be made to Liberty Baptist Church or a favorite charity.

Lucy Nell Bartlett Keeble 

 (LAGRANGE, Ga.) Lucy Nell Bartlett Keeble, 85, of LaGrange, Ga., died Sunday,
Dec. 28, 2003, at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange.
 Mrs. Keeble, born April 26, 1918, in Randolph County, Ala., was the daughter
of the late James Hester and Carrie Belle Pittman Bartlett. She had lived in
LaGrange since 1939, was a homemaker and a member of First Presbyterian Church.
 Survivors include her husband of 69 years, Earl Keeble of LaGrange; a
daughter, Virginia Bittinger of Fayetteville, Ga.; three sons, Gary Earl Keeble
of Dalton, Ga., J. Wallace Keeble of Columbus, Ga., and Dennis M. Keeble of
LaGrange; nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, one
great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
 Graveside services were Tuesday, Dec. 30, at 11 a.m. in Shadowlawn Cemetery
with Drs. William Conine and Douglas DeCelle officiating.
 Those desiring may contribute to a favorite organization in memory of Mrs.
Keeble.

Frankie Turner Sims

 (LAGRANGE, Ga.) Mrs. Frankie Sims, 85, of LaGrange, Ga., died Saturday, 
Dec. 27, 2003, at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange.
 Mrs. Sims, born Nov. 28, 1918, in Rock Mills, was the daughter of the late
Frank Brantley and Bessie Mae Cooper Turner. She had lived in LaGrange since
1935, retired from the Dunson Division of West Point Pepperell and was a member
of Dunson Baptist Church.
 Survivors include two daughters, Sheron Stanfield of LaGrange and Shelia
Bates of Hogansville, Ga.; a son, Jeffery Sims of LaGrange; two sisters, Stella
Brown of LaGrange and Mary May of Opelika; a brother, Herman Turner of LaGrange;
eight grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She
was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie Sims; a granddaughter, Amanda
Sims; and two sisters, Julia Holliday and Loyette Lewis.
 Funeral services were Tuesday, Dec. 30, at 2 p.m. in the Hunter-Allen-Myhand
Chapel with the Rev. William T. Bates officiating. Burial was in Shadowlawn
Cemetery.

Willie Lee Houston

 (NEWARK, N.J.) Willie Lee Houston Jr., 66, of Newark, N.J., died Friday, 
Jan. 2, 2004, at East Orange General Hospital, East Orange, N.J.
 Services will be Sunday, Jan. 11, at 1 p.m. at Mount Olive United Methodist
Church, Wadley, with the Rev. Hollis Boykin and the Rev. Jeffery Watson
officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
 Survivors include his mother, Willie Mae Houston of Wadley; his wife, Francis
Houston of Newark; a daughter, Twanda Jenkins of Atlantic City, N.J.; two
brothers, Melvin Houston of Chicago, Ill., and Charlie Houston of Wadley; and
two sisters, Barbara Wright of LaFayette and Beatrice Watson of Montgomery. 
He was preceded in death by his father, Willie Lee Houston Sr.
 Public viewing will be at Clark Memorial Funeral Service, Roanoke, from 
10 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 10. The body will be placed in the 
church one hour before the services.

Carlos Estuardo Perez

 (WEDOWEE) Services for Carlos Estuardo Perez, 14, of Wedowee, formerly of
Oklahoma, were at 2 p.m. EST on Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2004, at Oak Grove Baptist
Church at Pine Mountain, Ga., with the Rev. George Crenshaw officiating. Burial
was at Meadoway Gardens in LaGrange, Ga.
 Carlos died Saturday, Jan. 3, at his home.
 Survivors include his parents, Luis Felipe and Tina Joyce Long Perez; two
brothers, Luis Alberto Perez of Wedowee and Byron Emanueale Perez of Bethany,
Okla.; his grandparents, Jerry and Carol Brown of Wedowee; an aunt and uncle and
numerous cousins and friends.
 Pallbearers were Jeff Clay, Jerry Brown, Luis Perez, Luis Alberto Perez,
Wayne Harris and Ricky Daniel.
 A resident of Oklahoma until recently, he was a native of Oklahoma City, 
born Jan. 5, 1989.
 Arrangements were by Quattlebaum Funeral Home, Roanoke.

Mary Jo Shelnutt Brocker

 (MONCURE, N.C.) Mary Jo Shelnutt Brocker, 71, of Moncure, N.C., died Friday,
Jan. 2, 2004, at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford, N.C.
 Services were Monday, Jan. 5, at 11 a.m. at Loflin Funeral Home Chapel with
the Rev. Tim Strider officiating.
 Mrs. Brocker was a native of Wedowee and a homemaker.
 She is survived by her husband, William A. "Bill" Brocker of Moncure; two
sons, William A. Brocker Jr. and Walter L. Brocker of Moncure; seven brothers,
Doyle Shelnutt of Roanoke, Sammy Shelnutt and James Shelnutt of Sylacauga,
Calvin Shelnutt of Birmingham, Grady Shelnutt of Wedowee and George Shelnutt of
St. Charles, Mo.; two sisters, Irma Boyd of Wedowee and Ada Hallman of
Sylacauga; and two grandchildren.
 Arrangements were by Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, N.C.

Lotis Banks Baron

 (ROANOKE) Graveside services for Mrs. Lotis Banks Baron, 90, of Roanoke were
held Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, at 3 p.m. at Randolph Memory Gardens, with John
Sudduth delivering the eulogy.
 Mrs. Baron died Friday, Jan. 2, at Roanoke Healthcare Center.
 Survivors include one sister, Nola Bartlett of Roanoke; and several nieces
and nephews.
 A Randolph County native, Mrs. Baron was born Dec. 14, 1913, daughter of
William Brantley and Amanda Serena Johnston Banks. She was a member of Rock
Mills Baptist Church.
 Arrangements were by Quattlebaum Funeral. Home, Roanoke.

 (NEWELL) Services for Mrs. Eron C. McCain, 82, of Newell will be Wednesday,

adjoining cemetery.
 Mrs. McCain will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to services.
 Mrs. McCain died Monday, Jan. 5, at University Hospital-Birmingham.
 Survivors include her husband, Kermit McCain of Newell; two sons, Edward
McCain and Tony Ray McCain of Newell; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren;
and two brothers, William Clyde Campbell of Columbus, Ga., and Frank Campbell of
Wedowee.
 Pallbearers will be T. W. Wortham, Bill Nelson, David Haynes, Neal McCain,
Rance Meadows and Bobby Bolt. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Adamson,
Anthony Herren and William C. Campbell Jr.
 A Randolph County native, Mrs. McCain was born Oct. 15, 1921, daughter of
Thomas and Cordie Parker Campbell. She was a member of Cavers Grove Christian
Church and had retired from Handley Mills. She was preceded in death by a
grandson, Dan McCain; a brother, Timothy Campbell; and two sisters, Eloise
Wortham and Catherine Suchaskie.
 Arrangements are by Benefield Funeral Home, Wedowee.

James Ussery Cantrell

 (WEDOWEE) Services for James Ussery Cantrell, 50, of Wedowee were Sunday,
Jan. 11, 2004, at 2 p.m. at Highway First Congregational Methodist Church, with
the Rev. Ronnie Perkins and the Rev. Vernon Willis officiating. Burial was at
Highway Memory Gardens.
 Mr. Cantrell died Wednesday, Jan. 7, at Atlanta Medical Center.
 Survivors include two daughters, Stacy Bryant of Ephesus, Ga., and Angela
Carol Williams of Roopville, Ga.; a stepson, Jimmy Greenway of Temple, Ga.; four
sisters, Annette Sinns of Hogansville, Ga., Louree Richardson and Annie Ruth Dye
of Woodland and Carolyn Fields of Roanoke; four brothers, Emory Cantrell and
Viron Cantrell of Woodland, Rance Cantrell of Roopville, Ga., and Earl Cantrell
of Powder Springs, Ga.; and seven grandchildren.
 Pallbearers were Bobby Butler, Kenny Fields, Jeff Cantrell, Steve Cantrell,
Tony Richardson and Chris Dye.
 A Randolph County native, Mr. Cantrell was born Oct. 21, 1953, son of Herman
V. and Katie Belle Scott Cantrell. He had been employed as plant manager with
E&C Chemicals in Carrollton, Ga. Mr. Cantrell was preceded in death by his

her paternal grandmother, Kate Huskey of Suwanee; and several other family

of LaGrange, Ga., and Shanta Carter of Philadelphia; 10 grandchildren and a
special friend, Shirley Reid of Philadelphia.

Ivey Dennis Dean

 (LAGRANGE, Ga.) Ivey Dennis Dean, 63, of LaGrange, Ga., died Saturday, 
Jan. 3, 2004, at Hospice LaGrange.
 Mr. Dean, born Sept. 27, 1940, in Miami, Fla., was the son of the late Miron
Seaber Dean. He had lived in LaGrange since 1943 and was an Air Force and Army
National Guard veteran. He was maintenance manager at LaGrange Travel Center
and was Methodist.
 Survivors include his wife, Glenda Mae Dean of Roanoke; two sons, John Dean
and Robert Dean of LaGrange; two daughters, Ellen Dean and Laura Scott of
LaGrange; a stepson, Robert Scott of Roanoke; a sister, Leona Dean Mulkey of
LaGrange; 15 grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and friends.
 Memorial services were at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6, in the chapel of
Striffler-Hamby Mortuary with the Rev. Olin McClain officiating.

 (WEDOWEE) Services for Billy Jerrel Richardson, 58, of Wedowee were Thursday,

 Mr. Richardson died Tuesday, Jan. 6, at his home.
 Survivors include his wife, Rachel Fields Richardson of Wedowee; two
daughters, Susan Cofield of Roanoke and Carry Richardson of Georgia; three
grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and a brother, Joseph Richardson of
Bowdon, Ga.

Fields and Handel Brady. Carla Boyd and Phil Thompson served as honorary

 A former resident and native of Bowdon, Mr. Richardson was born June 8, 1945,
son of A. G. and Melba Adamson Richardson. He was Baptist by faith and had been
employed with the Wedowee Utilities Board for 16 years.

 Mr. Waldrop died Monday, Jan. 5, at University Hospital in Birmingham.

of Cedartown, Ga., Sherlana Davis of Gadsden and Angie Fowler of Anniston; a
son, Sonny Waldrop of Gadsden; his mother, Maurine Waldrop of Lineville; two
sisters, Betty Braswell of Wedowee, and Barbara Parker of Woodland; a brother,
Bennie Waldrop of Atlanta; and five grandchildren.

 Mr. Waldrop was a Wedowee native, a former resident of Piedmont and lived in
Anniston. He was a member of Dinglers Chapel Congregational Methodist Church,
where he served as a deacon and was a granddaddy to all of the children. He was
preceded in death by his father, Lesslie Waldrop.

 Mr. Kirby died Thursday, Jan. 8, at Bill Nichols Veterans Home in Alexander 
City. 
 Survivors include two sisters, Audrey L. Kirby and Louise K. Cofield, both of
Roanoke; a sister-in-law, Cloie Kirby of Bynum; one nephew; and several cousins.
 A lifelong Roanoke resident, Mr. Kirby was born Feb. 1, 1916, son of Hariam
and Hattie Jane Kirby. He was a farmer and a member of Taylors Crossroads
Church of Christ. Mr. Kirby was a World War II Army veteran who served in the
Pacific theatre from 1941 to 1945.
 Pallbearers were Len Martin, Bobby Kirby, Mike Strain, Ron Tiemersma, Earnie
Falco, Charles Ester and Wylow Marton.

 (VALLEY) Jessie "Mr. Dee" Ramsey, 93, of Valley died Thursday, Jan. 1, 2004,
at Beverly Health Care in Lanett.
 Funeral services were Thursday, Jan. 8, at 2 p.m. EST at Zion Rest Baptist
Church in Valley with the Revs. Charles Jackson, Sam Marshall Jr., Richard Magby
and W. F. Smith officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
 Mr. Ramsey is survived by one daughter, Tina Ramsey Kellum of Atlanta; three
sons, Walter Lee Ramsey of Valley, Willie Jessie Ramsey of Elmira, N.Y., and
Walter B. Ramsey of Tuscaloosa; three nieces and two nephews; 62 grandchildren,
33 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of cousins
and other relatives.
 Born Aug. 12, 1910, in Randolph County, Mr. Ramsey was an exemplary father,
husband and friend. He was employed with WestPoint Stevens as a transportation
supervisor with 38 years of service with the company. Mr. Ramsey was a member
of Zion Rest Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and treasurer. He was a
dedicated and hard-working family man and father. He was a mason builder for
WestPoint Stevens and was honored in 2003. He was preceded in death by his
wife, Mrs. Willie Ree Ramsey.

 Mr. Garner died Thursday, Jan. 8, from injuries sustained in an automobile
accident near Roanoke.

Woodland; his fiancee, Tabethia Hyatt of Woodland; two half-sisters, Stacy
Bryant of Franklin, Ga., and Angela Carol Williams of Roopville, Ga.; two
half-brothers, Jeremy Garner of Alexandria and John Garner of Salem, Ore.; two
step-sisters, Kelly Gunstanson and Randi Pike of Woodland; and a step-brother,
Kyle Gibson of Woodland.
 A Baldwin County native, Mr. Garner was born Aug. 4, 1982. He was a member
of Providence Baptist Church and had been employed as a shipping clerk with
Wal-Mart. He was preceded in death by his mother, June Marie Daniel Garner.

Lanett; her grandmother, Sadie M. Burton of LaFayette; three aunts and seven

 Koshia was born in Randolph County Nov. 11, 1991. She was a member of the
youth choir and praise team at Greater Pine Hill Baptist Church, a lead singer
of The Spiritual Voices gospel singers, a honor roll student at J.P. Powell
Middle School, member of the Just Organization and Student Government
Association, trainer for the junior high girls basketball team, a member of the
4-H Club, played basketball in the E.C.E.Z. league for three years, a pee-wee
cheerleader and a band student in the LaFayette High Marching Band.

Lineville, but she returned to Lakeland in 1966. She was a retired accounts
receivable manager with Watkins Motor Lines and a lifelong member of

 (ROANOKE) Services for Osbon Milford Wright, 77, of Roanoke will be

 Mr. Wright died Sunday, Jan. 18, at Randolph Medical Center, Roanoke.

a member of Bear Creek United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by
her husband, Joseph Lewis McManus; a daughter, Beatrice Gross; two sisters, Cora
Daniel and Burmice Stewart; and three brothers, Joe French, Jimmy French and
Larkin French.

Leon A. Shelnutt

 (ARLINGTON, Va.) Memorial services for Leon A. Shelnutt, 92, of Arlington,
Va., were Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004, at 10:30 a.m. EST at Arlington Funeral Horne
in Arlington, Va. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery.
 Mr. Shelnutt died Wednesday, Jan. 7.
 Survivors include his wife, Emily Shelnutt; two children, Steven Shelnutt of
Arlington and Suzanne Shelnutt Matonek of Montclair, Va.; and two grandchildren.
 Mr. Shelnutt, a Wedowee native, was a World War Il Navy veteran and served as
a lieutenant commander and retired as a senior foreign service officer with
assignments in Germany, Hungary and Sri Lanka. After retirement, he worked as
an educator for the Arlington County School System until May 2003. He graduated
from the current Jacksonville State University.

Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
 Mrs. Alsabrook died Friday, Jan. 16, at her home.
 A native of Randolph County, she was born to the late Martha Frances Woodfin
Rollins and William Lawson Rollins on May 17, 1918. Mrs. Alsabrook was a
retired employee of West Point Stevens Fairfax Mill and a member of Huguley
Baptist Church.
 Survivors include four children, Joyce Gibson, Glynnis Jackson, Melton
Alsabrook and Felton Alsabrook; a brother, Harvey Rollins; a son-in-law; nine
grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was
preceded in death by her husband, W. D. Alsabrook; her daughter, Sue Williams;
her grandson, Rodney Williams; and her granddaughter, Kira Alsabrook.

having taught in Clayton and Henry counties in Georgia and later at New Hope
Christian School in Wedowee. She was a member of the Shrinettes of South Fulton
County, Ga.

Charles Clark and Jimmy Clark.
 A Randolph County native, Mrs. Clark was born Nov. 15, 1918, daughter of
Henry and Callie White. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and
had been employed with Clegg Manufacturing in Wadley. She was preceded in death
by her parents and her husband, Rev. C.H. Clark.

Lola Siggers Cook

 (WEST POINT, Ga.) Lola Siggers Cook, 95, of West Point, Ga., died Thursday,
Jan. 15, 2004, at Hospice LaGrange in LaGrange, Ga.
 Funeral services were Monday, Jan. 19, at 2 p.m. at McCarthy Funeral Home
Chapel in West Point with Dr. Jerome King and the Rev. Frank Sledge officiating. 
Burial followed in Oakwood Cemetery in Lanett.
 Mrs. Cook is survived by two sons, retired Col. Herman Cook of Lake Harding
and William Hugh Cook of Scottsboro; one daughter-in-law; two sisters, Lillie
Merritt and Sara Jenkins, both of Lanett; eight grandchildren, nine
great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
 Born July 25, 1908, in Randolph County, Mrs. Cook was a member of the Joy
Sunday School Class and an active member of the local AARP. She was presented a
30-year Faithful and Willing Leadership Award in 1974 by the Alabama Baptist
Association for service as a Sunday school teacher and nursery worker. Mrs. Cook
continued her commitment to her church as long as she was physically able, 
including singing in the choir andother activities. She recently received a 
50-year membership pin from the Woodmen of the World Lodge. Mrs. Cook was very 
active in First Baptist Church of Shawmut. She lived all of her active life in 
Chambers County, where she worked at the WestPoint Manufacturing Company in Shawmut 
and several florists. Mrs. Cook was preceded in death by her husband, James W. 
Cook, and her son, Jessie M. Cook. She was the daughter of the late Nora Nix 
Siggers and Jessie James Siggers.
 In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of
Shawmut.

 (OHATCHEE) Services for Mary F. Boyd, 95, of Ohatchee were Thursday, Jan. 15,
2004, at 11 a.m. at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Anniston with the Revs. Boyd
Blair and John Clark officiating. Burial was in Caver's Grove Cemetery in
Randolph County. Mrs. Boyd died Monday, Jan. 12, at Regional Medical Center in
Anniston.
 Survivors include a daughter, Marvis Blair Tatum and her husband, Horace, of
Ohatchee; eight grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, two great-great-
grandchildren, and a great-great-great-grandchild.
 Pallbearers were grandsons.
 Mrs. Boyd, a Newell native, had lived in Ohatchee 35 years. She was a member
of Caver's Grove Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband,
Robert Boyd; and a daughter, Mavis Fowler.

 (CARROLLTON, Ga.) James Wender Simpson, 71, of Carrollton, Ga., died Tuesday,
Jan. 13, 2004.
 Mr. Simpson was born in Cleburne County, Ala., on Dec. 17, 1932, the son of
the late Robert Davis "R.D." Simpson and Mamie Jewell Buchanan Simpson. He was
retired director of transportation for the Carroll County School System and a
member of Pine Hill Church of Christ in Newell.
 Survivors include his wife, Glenda R. Simpson of Carrollton; a daughter,
Carol Shaw of Carrollton; a son, Paul Simpson of Carrollton; three
grandchildren; and a brother, Hal Simpson of Carrollton.
 Services were Thursday, Jan. 15, at 11 a.m. at the chapel of Almon Funeral
Home with minister J. L. Sparks officiating. Music was provided by Brooke Bass,
Lane Dixon and Theresa Stapler. Burial was in Pine Hill Church of Christ
Cemetery, Newell.
 Pallbearers were Tim Cole, Terry Cole, Craig Simpson, Kirby Laye, Mike
Stedham and David Runyan.

 (LANETT) Services for Christine Earl, 78, of Lanett were Friday, Jan. 16,
2004, at 2 p.m. EST at Shawmut Church of the Nazarene with the Revs. John
Shipman and Floyd Aiken officiating. Burial was at Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
 Mrs. Earl died Wednesday, Jan. 14, at East Alabama Medical Center, Opelika.
 A native of Randolph County, Mrs. Earl was born April, 13, 1925, to the late
Richard Baldwin and Bessie Rollins Baldwin. She was an avid gardener, who loved
to spend time with her grandchildren. Mrs. Earl was a lifetime member of the
City of Valley Ceramic Club and a member of Huguley Church of the Nazarene.
 She is survived by her husband, Bill Earl of Lanett; a daughter, Jennifer
Monroe of Valley; four sons, Benny Earl of Douglasville, Ga., Maxie Earl of Pine
Mountain, Ga., Damen Earl of Roanoke and David Earl of Lanett; two sisters,
Leona Smith of Roanoke and Eunice Aikens of LaFayette; nine grandchildren and
seven great-grandchildren.

Cora Sue Hines Paige

 (ATLANTA) Funeral services for Cora Sue Hines Paige, 66, of Atlanta were
Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004, at 10:30 a.m. at Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist
Church in Atlanta with the Rev. Elliot Williams, pastor, officiating. Burial
was in Lincoln Cemetery, Atlanta.
 Ms. Paige died Saturday, Jan. 10.
 The daughter of the late Andrew Jefferson Hines and Clara Lee Mitchell Hines,
she was born March 7, 1937, in northern Chambers County. Ms. Paige was the 1955
salutatorian of Five Points High School and attended Canaan Baptist Church in
the Welch community. She and her former husband, Lester Paige, moved to Atlanta
in 1962, where she was a homemaker by day and worked nights at St. Joseph
Hospital. Ms. Paige later enrolled at Atlanta Area Technical School to study
social work and was later employed by Fulton County. She worked at South
Central Mental Health for more than 25 years as a mental health specialist,
retiring in 1999. Ms. Paige was a member of Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist
Church, where she sang in the choir and worked on the Usher Board. She was
president of the Neighborhood Society in the Carver Hills community.
 She is survived by four children, Ronald Paige of Jonesboro, Ga., Sandra
Paige Wall of Decatur, Ga., Opal Miller of Riverdale, Ga., and Evelyn "MeMe"
Paige of Atlanta; two brothers, Charlie Hines of Long Beach, Calif., and Ozell
Hines of Abilene, Texas; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and a host
of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and special friends. Ms. Paige was
preceded in death by two sisters, Catherine Cofield and Thelma McGuire[.]
 Pallbearers were members of the Atlanta Fire Department, and flower ladies
were from the Usher Board No. 2 of Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church.

James Askew

 (GRAHAM) James Askew, 80, of Roanoke Healthcare Center, formerly of Graham,
died Thursday, Jan. 22, 2004, at Randolph Medical Center.
 Services were Monday, Jan. 25, at 2 p.m. at Bethena United Methodist Church,
Graham, with the Rev. William Crawford officiating. Interment was in the
adjoining cemetery.
 Mr. Askew is survived by a sister, Alberta Prothro of Graham; a special
niece, Mary Alice Houston of Graham; a devoted great-niece, Kim Phillips of
Graham; and a special great-nephew, Ben Phillips of Graham.
 Pallbearers were Ben Phillips, Howard McKay, William Askew, Harris Stephens,
Johnny Boyd and Calvin Ellis.

at her home.

Ga., and Nicholas Henderson of Roanoke; a brother, Euless B. Henderson Sr. of

Richard C. Wadsworth

 (AUGUSTA, Ga.) Richard C. Wadsworth, 57, of Augusta , Ga., died Saturday,
Jan. 24, 2004, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Augusta.
 Mr. Wadsworth was born on Aug. 21, 1946, in Anniston to the late Jack W.
Wadsworth and the late Hazel Brown Wadsworth and grew up in Roanoke. Mr.
Wadsworth was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Vietnam War.
 Survivors include his brother, Jack Wadsworth; aunts and uncles, Geneva
Bartlett and Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Coggins; three nieces and nephews and a cousin.
 Memorial services for Mr. Wadsworth will be Wednesday, Jan. 28, at 2 p.m. in
the Chapel of Conner-Westbury Funeral Home, Griffin, Ga. Friends may visit the
family following the service.

 (LAGRANGE, Ga.) Curtis Allen, 69, of LaGrange, Ga., died Saturday, Jan. 24,
2004, at West Georgia Medical Center, LaGrange.
 Mr. Allen, born May 20, 1934, in LaGrange, was the son of the late Willie T.
and Pearl Pilgrim Allen. He retired as a maintenance technician for the city of
LaGrange and was a member of Baptist Tabernacle.
 Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Karen Allen of LaGrange; three
daughters, Tanya Mallory, Angela Wrinn and Lisa Folds, all of LaGrange; a son,
Curtis Ray Allen of Florence, S.C.; stepchildren, Sue Slaughter, Sharon Wright
and Terry Folds, all of LaGrange; one brother, Dolphus Allen of Randolph County;
two sisters, Willie Arndt of LaGrange and Betty Jean Lollar of Valley; nine
grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. He was
preceded in death by a son, Keith Pike.
 Funeral services were Monday, Jan. 26, at 4 p.m. at Eastside Community Church
with the Rev. Jimmy Little officiating. Burial was in Shadowlawn Cemetery.

Mattie LaMerle Mann

 (LAGRANGE, Ga.) Mattie LaMerle Mann, 84, of LaGrange, Ga., died Friday, 
Jan. 23, 2004, at Brian Center Nursing Home.
 Mrs. Mann was born Feb. 16, 1919, in Randolph County, Ala., daughter of the
late John and Bessie Lee Landers. She had lived in LaGrange most of her life
and was retired from Callaway Mills.
 Survivors include her sister, Glenys Mann of LaGrange; and several nieces and
nephews; great-nieces and a great-nephew, Justice Bice, who provided care for
Mrs. Mann.
 Funeral services were Saturday, Jan. 24, at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary's
LaGrange Chapel with the Rev. ST. Janney officiating. A private entombment
followed in Restlawn Memory Gardens.

 (WOODLAND) Services for Willis Brown "Uncle Sap" Herren, 91, of Woodland were

Ralph Posey, the Rev. Ridley Parmer and the Rev. Paul Widener officiating.

 Mr. Herren died at his residence on Friday, Jan. 23.
 Survivors include a sister and brother-in-law, Jewell and Leon Mote of
Woodland; a sister-in-law, Ione Herren of Woodland; a special caretaker, Jackie
Madden of Woodland, and several nieces and nephews.
 Pallbearers were Matt Herren, Jackie Herren, Ben Johnson, Cory Johnson, Heath
Mitchell, Jason Merrill, Keith Watkins and Eric Lovvorn.
 A Randolph County native, Mr. Herren was born Dec. 11, 1912, son of Steven W.
Herren and Nancy M. Traylor Herren. He had been employed at Herrens Sawmill and
was a cattle farmer. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the 17th
Airborne Division where he fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member
of Herrens Grove Baptist Church.
 He was preceded in death by his wife, Lonie Lanier Herren; two brothers,
Horace Herren and S. T. "Bud" Herren; and five sisters, Ilene Lovvorn, Janie
Hinton, Nancy Williams, Curtis Johnson and Myrtice Green.

 Mrs. Fomby died Wednesday, Jan. 21, at Dr. C. P. Horn Clay County Nursing

of Alexander City; a son, Preston Lamar Fomby; two brothers, Thomas Waller and
Lovell Waller of Birmingham; a sister, Shirley Coker of Alexander City; six

 Mrs. Fomby, a Wadley native, was a member of Hackneyville Baptist Church. 
She worked as a seamstress for Embassy Mobile Homes. She was preceded in death
by her husband, George Preston Fomby; a son, Olin Fomby; a brother, Wilford
Waller; three sisters, Ruby Collins, Pauline Guise and Nellie Gipson; and a
granddaughter, Robin Denney.

 (ROANOKE) Carrie Lee Winston, 91, of Roanoke died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2004,

Roanoke, with the Rev. Tommie L. Finley officiating. Burial was in Skyview

 Survivors include nieces Candice Gresham and Judith Carole Gresham of
Atlanta; nephews Stephen McCarthy of Atlanta and Ryan Warfield, Craig Warfield,
Derrick Warfield and Keith Warfield of Lorraine, Ohio; caregivers Frances Drake
of Welch and Rosie Rowland of Roanoke; and three cousins. She was preceded in
death by her parents, Fred Gresham Sr. and Beulah Gresham; a sister, Josephine
Black; two brothers, Fred Gresham Jr. and Julius Gresham; and her husband, Harry
Winston.

 Mr. Burke died Thursday, Jan. 22, at West Georgia Medical Center, LaGrange.
 Survivors include his wife, Ismur Burke of Rock Mills; two daughters, Tammy
Whaley of Rock Mills and Vickie Guizar of Roanoke; one son, Nick Burke of Rock
Mills; a stepdaughter, Sandy Brooks of Roanoke; three sisters, Margaret Burke,
Ruth Rushing and Lois Wilson, all of Woodland; one brother, Wallace Burke of
Roanoke; 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
 Pallbearers were Gene Laws, Edward Barrett, Irvin Barrett, Larry Wilson, Mike
Rushing, Tim Rushing and Joe Bob Gilham.
 A lifelong Randolph County resident, Mr. Burke was born May 31, 1947, son of
Jay Hugh and Talitha Lipp Burke. He was a member of Rock Mills Church of the
Nazarene and had been employed with Wal-Mart Distribution Center in LaGrange. 
He was preceded in death by two stepchildren, Wayne Johnson and Patricia
Jenkins.

 Mrs. Garey died suddenly on Thursday, Jan. 22, at Randolph Medical Center.

Louis Garey Jr. of Roanoke; two grandchildren; her parents, Bobby and Betty
Laster of Five Points; her grandmother, Lillie Benefield of Franklin, Ga.; two
sisters, Barbara Ann Laster of Roanoke and Brenda Sue Hammock of Standing Rock;
two brothers, Terry Lee Laster of Roanoke and Robert Gene Laster of Franklin,
Ga.; and several nieces and nephews.
 A former resident of Plant City, Fla., Mrs. Garey was born April 17, 1963,
daughter of Bobby Gene and Betty Ann Benefield Laster. She had been employed as
a security guard with Southern Union State Community College.

 Mrs. Knight died Wednesday, Jan. 21, at East Alabama Medical Center, Opelika.

Duquene of Seattle, Wash., and Nelda Hand of Opelika; a sister, Ellen Joiner of
Alexander City; two brothers, Lee Neely of North Carolina and Charles Neely of
Roswell, N.M.; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

 A native of Troup County, Ga., Mrs. Knight was born July 1, 1914, daughter of
Emmett Madison and Edna Iola Martin Neely. She was a member of Midway Full
Gospel Church and had worked as a nursing assistant with Randolph County
Hospital. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, E. W. Knight
Jr.; a sister, Bettie Brown; and two brothers, Austin and Burton Neely.

 (LAGRANGE, Ga.) Mr. Holly Parmer, 92, of LaGrange, Ga., died Monday, 
Jan. 19, 2004, at Hospice LaGrange.
 Mr. Parmer, born Dec. 27, 1911, in Randolph County, Ala., was the son of the
late James W. and Josephine Gosdin Parmer. He was a retired truck farmer and
had lived in LaGrange most of his life.
 Survivors include his children, John D. Parmer of Lineville, Billy Joe Parmer
of Lincolnton, N.C., J. Gerald Parmer of Wrightsville, Ga., William Earl "Bill"
Parmer of Joshua, Texas, Judy Nixon, Reuben Parmer and Jane Spivey of LaGrange,
Nadine Moore of Jeffersonville, Ga., Mary Lou Parsons of Cochran, Ga., Margie
Noles and Susan Ross of West Point, Ga., and Hollis Parmer of Pine Mountain,
Ga.; 41 grandchildren; 73 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-great-grandchildren; 
a sister, Jewel Hill of Houston, Texas; two brothers, Rudy Parmer of LaGrange and 
William "Pinky" Parmer of West Point; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was 
preceded in death by two sons, Bobby Gene Parmer and Charlie Lee Parmer.

chapel with the Revs. Eugene Boyette, Roland Cross and G. Randall Parmer

Eugene G. Hawes Sr.

 (WEDOWEE) Memorial services for Eugene G. Hawes Sr., 82, of Wedowee will be
held at a later date.
 Mr. Hawes died Thursday, Jan. 22, at Lineville Nursing Facility.
 Mr. Hawes is survived by his wife, Mrs. Loleta Hawes of Wedowee; two sons,
Gene Hawes of Wedowee and Karl W. Hawes of Butte, Mont.; two sisters, Shirley
Campbell of Sharpsburg, Md., and Delores Kawiecki of Pasadena, Md.; a brother,
Charles Hawes of Esteron, Fla.; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
 Mr. Hawes was a native of Brunswick, Md., born April 2, 1921, son of Charles
G. Hawes and Fannie Irene Dinterman Hawes. He was retired from Westinghouse
Electric as an expeditor. He was a staff sergeant in World War II, having
served in the Army Air Corps.

Stewart of Gainesville, Fla., and John Stewart of Orlando, Fla.; a sister, Linda
Baldwin of Roanoke; and two brothers, Victor Baldwin and Mac Baldwin, both of
Roanoke.
 A former resident of central Florida, Mrs. Stewart was a Randolph County
native, born Dec. 18, 1928, daughter of Dewey and Mattie Sue Robinson Baldwin. 
She was a member of Roanoke First United Methodist Church and had been employed
with Terry Manufacturing Company.
 Arrangements were by Quattlebaum Funeral Home, Roanoke.

Bobby Jack Chaffin

 (BIRMINGHAM) Services for Bobby Jack Chaffin, 73, of Birmingham were Tuesday,
Jan. 27, 2004, at 10 a.m. at Jefferson Memorial Chapel with Dr. Mike D. McLemore
officiating. Burial was at Jefferson Memorial Gardens East.
 Mr. Chaffin died Saturday, Jan. 24.
 Survivors include his wife, Martha Minton Chaffin; two sons, R. Jack Chaffin
of Atlanta and Mark Minton Chaffin of Birmingham; a sister, Betty Katherine
Turner of Anniston; four grandchildren; and four aunts.
 Mr. Chaffin was retired as regional sales manager for Gerber Products
Company. He attended Lakeside Baptist Church and was a Mason and a Shriner. He
was a sergeant in the Army during the Korean War. He graduated from Randolph
County High School.
 In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Lung Cancer Society
or the American Diabetes Foundation.

Manley S. Parmer

 (LANETT) Manley S. Parmer, 67, of Lanett died Thursday, Jan. 22, 2004, at his
residence.
 Funeral services were Sunday, Jan. 25, at 2 p.m. EST at Johnson Brown-Service
Funeral Home Chapel in Valley with the Rev. Milford McClain officiating. Burial
followed in the Bethel [East] Baptist Church Cemetery at Woodland at 3:30 p.m.
EST.
 Mr. Parmer is survived by three daughters, Lydia Stringfellow and Carol
Holly, both of Opelika, and Lynn Parmer of Florida; four sons, Steven Parmer of
Augusta, Ga., Manley S. Parmer Jr. of Opelika, and Jimmy Parmer and Jerry
Parmer, both of Valley; 18 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
 Born April 1, 1936, in Woodland, Mr. Parmer loved music. He was very
talented and could play many musical instruments. He loved his family and his
friends. He was a member of Three Pines Baptist Church in Huguley and the
Disabled Veterans Association. Mr. Parmer was preceded in death by his wife,
Sally Parmer; and his son, Dewey Phillips. He was the son of the late Ivy
Gosdin Parmer and Virgil Parmer.
 The family will receive friends Saturday, Jan. 24, from 6 until 8 p.m. at
Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley.

Mildred Catherine Terry

 (BRANCHVILLE) Services for Mildred Catherine Terry, 73, of Branchville were
Friday, Jan. 23, 2004, at 2 p.m. at Usrey Funeral Home in Pell City with the
Rev. Robert Dunn officiating. Burial was in St. Clair Memorial Gardens.
 Mrs. Terry died Wednesday, Jan. 21, in Birmingham.
 Survivors include her husband, Oscar C. Terry; four daughters, Ginger Murphy
of Randolph County, Toni Mattox of Pinson, JoAnna Burgess of Springville and
Tammy Jo Tieree of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; two sons, Wayne Robertson of
Branchville and Tommy Robertson of Covington, Ga.; a sister, Jo Dunn of Allgood;
a brother, Bud Curvin of Pinson; 14 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 
a host of nieces and nephews.

Earl K. Knudsen

 (ROANOKE) Earl K. Knudsen, 81, of Roanoke died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2004.
 Graveside services were Monday, Jan. 26, at 11 a.m. at Forest Hill Cemetery,
Birmingham, with Bro. DeFoor officiating.
 Mr. Knudsen was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
 He is survived by his wife of more than 60 years, Mary Knudsen; a son,
William R. Knudsen; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother,
John Knudsen; and a sister, Mary Frank.
 Arrangements were by Ridouts Roebuck Chapel, Birmingham.

Jettie Mae Vowell Mathews

 (BULLHEAD CITY, Ariz.) Jettie Mae Vowell Mathews, 85, formerly of LaGrange,
Ga., died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2004, in Las Vegas, Nev., after a short illness.
 Mrs. Mathews, born in Randolph County, Ala., spent most of her life in
Fairfax, S.D., where she was cafeteria supervisor at Fairfax Consolidated
School. After the death of her husband, Roy, she returned to LaGrange, where
she was an active member of Southwest Baptist Church and West Georgia Medical
Center Auxiliary. She has resided in Bullhead City, Ariz., for the last few
years.	
 Survivors include a son and his wife, Bill and Nan Mathews of Bullhead City;
two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, and 12 nieces and nephews.
 Burial will be at a later date in Fairfax, S.D.
 In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Southwest
Baptist Church, Washington Street, LaGrange.
