He was the grandson of Nell Whaley of Wadley, rather than Neil Whaley. Mary Lillian Briskey Meadows (DAVISTON) Mary Lillian Briskey Meadows, 60, of Daviston died Friday, Oct. 30, 1998, at her home. Funeral services were at Coger Hill C.M.E. Church, Daviston, on Tuesday Nov. 3, at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Luther J. Swint and the Rev. Orlando Sims officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. Surviving are three sons, Roy Lee Jr., of Hayneville, Wilson Lee of Woodland and Claude Lee; five sisters, Edith Buchanan Rowe, Yvonnie O'Neal, Janice Meadows and Irish Thomas of Daviston and Bessie Mae Baggett of Roanoke; one sister, Evarn B. Presley; one brother, Ezekiel Briskey of Daviston; her step-father, George Hardnett of Wadley; 22 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, a host of aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. Wood, 98, of Roanoke will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, 1998, at Randolph Memory Gardens, with the Rev. Hugh Vines officiating. Mr. Wood died Monday, Nov. 2, at Randolph County Hospital after a short illness. A lifelong resident of Randolph County, he was born Feb. 24, 1900, son of Dr. Frank Richard and Lola Pittman Wood. He was a self-employed dairy farmer, a charter member of the Tallapoosa River Electric Authority, a member of Farm Bureau, and a deacon at Lebanon Christian Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nell C. Wood. Survivors include two daughters, Miriam W. Haywood of Jacksonville and Nancy W. Jones of Greenville; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The family will received friends one hour prior to the services, beginning at 10 a.m. Wednesday, at Quattlebaum Funeral Home. Barry Cosper officiating. Tommy Fincher served as pallbearer. Mr. Nolen died Wednesday, Nov. 4, at his residence. A lifelong resident of Randolph County, he was born March 3, 1933, son of John William and Gladys Nolen. He was retired from Daniel Construction, where he was a superintendent. He was active with youth programs in Roanoke and for many years served as commissioner of Roanoke Little League. From 1986 to 1988, Mr. Nolen served on the Roanoke City Council. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Mary John Nolen of Roanoke; one daughter, Angelia Danita Nolen of Greenville, S.C.; two sons, James Gregory Nolen of Greenville, S.C., and Jeffrey Lynn Nolen of Roanoke; three sisters, Virginia Hayes of Woodland, Sara Jones of Wadley and Patricia Hood of Opelika; two brothers, Jerry Nolen of Roanoke and Johnny Nolen of Woodland; and five grandchildren. Mr. Dobson was born in Randolph County on Nov. 6, 1970, son of Clyde Eugene and Margie Dobson of Wadley. Funeral services were at Macedonia Baptist Church in Randolph County on Sunday, Nov. 8, at 2 p.m., with interment in the church cemetery. The Rev. Zenus Windsor and the Rev. Timmy Tippton officiated. Surviving are his wife, Renae Dobson of Wadley; one son, Braden Ridge Dobson of Wadley; his parents; and four sisters, Debbie Fetner of Roanoke, Tina Knight and Patricia Bailey of Wadley and Kelly McCain of Woodland. Mr. Dobson was employed by Mack Welch Logging Company. A memorial fund will be set up at Farmers & Merchants Bank in LaFayette for the family. The Revs. Alton Paris and Tom Moge officiated, with burial in Crestwood Cemetery. Mrs. Martin was the daughter of the late Ed and Lucy Ware of the Green's Chapel community and Wedowee. Mrs. Martin took her nurse's training at Forrest General Hospital, which later became Baptist Memorial Hospital, where she became a registered pediatric nurse. She retired in 1978 with more than 30 years of service. Mrs. Martin was a Gold Star Mother and a member of East Gadsden United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Martin, and a son, Lance Cpl. Charles E. Martin. She is survived by a daughter, Ellen Holcomb; four grandchildren; two great- grandchildren; three brothers, E. L. and O. H. Ware of Florida and George Ware of California; three sisters, Bovene Mallory of Prattville, Edyth Hardman of Wedowee and Reba Chesser of Gadsden; a daughter-in-law, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, grandchildren-in-law, and a host of nieces and nephews. Burial will follow in Lineville City Cemetery. Mr. Rice died Monday, Nov. 9, 1998, at Florence Hand Home in LaGrange, Ga., after an extended illness. A native and lifelong resident of Randolph County, Mr. Rice was born March 14, 1912, son of John L. and Willie Arrington Rice. He was owner and operator of Ted's Service Station in Wedowee for many years. Mr. Rice was an army veteran of World War II and a member of First Baptist Church in Wedowee. Survivors include one son, David Rice of Valley; one step-son, Tommy Bell of Jackson, Ga.; one sister, Nannie Butler of Roanoke; and three grandchildren. A lifelong resident of Randolph County, he was born March 17, 1921, son of Bob and Bertie Kirby. He was employed in the textile industry, was a World War II veteran, and was a Methodist. He was preceded in death by his wife, Willie Sue Kirby. Memorial services were held for Arthur M. Rodvold on Saturday, Nov. 14, 1998. He died Nov. 3 in Cupertino, Calif. Pastor David Rommereim and Pastor Tim Huff officiated. Lima Family Mortuary handled the arrangements. Mr. Rodvold was born July 25, 1916, in Osakis, Minn., son of Magnus and Sarah Rodvold. He was raised on a farm in Divide County, N.D., and received his education there. He served in the military during World War II from 1942 to 1945. He was in partnership in a dry cleaning plant in Crosby, N.D., and moved to Cavalier, N.D., in 1954, where he owned a dry cleaning plant. He moved to California in 1966 and managed a cleaning plant in Mountain View, Calif., until his retirement in 1981. He was a member of Christ the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and the American Legion in San Jose, Calif. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, and son, Douglas, of San Jose; two daughters, Janine Knudsen of Wedowee and Doreen Wight of San Jose; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Selmer Rodvold of Columbia Heights, Minn., and Melvin Rodvold of Crosby, N.D. Burial will follow in Valley Grove Primitive Baptist Cemetery. Mr. Putman died Tuesday, Nov. 17, at his residence following an extended illness. He was born Jan. 29, 1934, in Calhoun County, son of Lewis Willard and Lillie Mae Putman. He had been employed with General Motors and was of the Holiness faith. Survivors include his wife, Minnie Lee Cobb Putman of Wedowee; two daughters, Lisa Lamb of Wedowee and Sondra Dove of Bridgeview, Ill., one son, Mitchell Hill of Polk City, Fla.; two sisters, Imogene Sheppard of Wedowee and Hilda Hunt of Hampton, Ga.; four brothers, Charles Putman of Fyffe, Robert Putman of Carrollton, Ga., and Johnny Wayne Putman of Valparaiso, Ind., and Ricky Putman of Alabama; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Cosper died Monday, Nov. 16, at Clay County Hospital in Ashland. He was born June 22, 1913, in Randolph County, son of Grover Cleveland and Lola V. Cosper. He had been self-employed as a carpenter and was a deacon of Union Baptist Church and a member of Masonic Lodge Sawyer 96 at Graham. Survivors include his wife, Elsie Cosper of Lineville; two sons, Benny Cosper and Larry Cosper of Wedowee; one brother, Davis Cosper of Wedowee; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Mr. Cosper will lie in state at the church beginning at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Charlie Calvin Walker, 69, of Franklin, Ga., died Sunday, Nov. 15, 1998, at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange after several months of declining health. Mr. Walker was born Oct. 8, 1929, in Troup County, Ga., son of the late Jesse Walker and Maggie Ruth White Walker. He was a 30-year employee of Franklin Aluminum Company, where he served as the packing room supervisor. He was a member of Callaway Baptist Church in LaGrange and a member of the LaGrange Masonic Lodge. Funeral services will be Wednesday, Nov. 18, at 4 p.m. at Franklin First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Talmadge Chandler and the Rev. Max McCord officiating. Interment will follow in Randolph Memory Garden, Rock Mills. Mr. Walker is survived by his wife, Mrs. Betty Owens Walker of Franklin; one daughter, Ginger Cornelius of Carrollton, Ga.; three sons, Rick Walker of Rome, Ga., Billy Walker of LaGrange and Danny Walker of Woodland, Ga.; one brother, Billy Walker of Pine Bluff, Ark.; and six grandchildren. Don Quick officiating. Burial was at White's Chapel cemetery. Mr. Harrell died suddenly at Randolph County Hospital in Roanoke on Saturday, Nov. 14. A former resident of Guntersville, Mr. Harrell was a Buchanan, Ga., native, born April 8, 1913, son of James R. and Ella Jones Harrell. He was a self-employed farmer. E. Dennis Edwards officiating. Interment was at Spring Grove Cemetery. Ms. Davis died Saturday, Oct. 31. She was born Oct. 27, 1947, daughter of the late John and Pauline Davis. She was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church in Roanoke and later Southern Baptist Church in Cincinnati. She is survived by two daughters, Tonya Horn of Belleville, Ill., and Ebony Horn of Birmingham; her fiance, Louis Frechette of Cincinnati; four sisters, Louise Green and Wynola Mozee of Cincinnati, Ola Grace Robinson of Atlanta, Ga., and Johnnie Ruth Thornton of Anderson, Ala.; two brothers, Neola Davis of Roanoke and Willie Lee Davis of Phoenix, Ariz.; one granddaughter; and a host of other relatives and friends. Burial was in Highland Cemetery in Anniston. Mrs. Lovvorn died Friday, Nov 20, at Chapman Nursing Home in Alexander City. A native of Randolph County, she was born March 3, 1914, to Willie Joe and Ola Samantha Camp. Mrs. Lovvorn was a teacher and a member of Parker Memorial Baptist Church. She is survived by two daughters, Robbie L. Granger of Alexander City and JoAnn L. Rutherford of Montgomery; two brothers, Ralph Camp of Montgomery and Blake Camp of Bowdon, Ga.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Survivors include her husband, Major Cantrell of Woodland; a daughter, Wendy Richardson of Woodland; a son, Joshua Richardson of Woodland; her parents, Gervis and Mary Noles of Woodland; and three brothers, Danny Noles and Chad Noles of Lanett and Justin Noles of Woodland. Mr. Ferrell died Sunday, Nov. 22, at Hospice of LaGrange following an extended illness. A lifelong resident of Randolph County, he was born June 6, 1930, son of Grady and Bonnie Ferrell. He was a mechanic with Palm Beach Company, a Korean War veteran and a member of Roanoke Christian Church. Survivors include his wife, Myrtice Broach Ferrell of Roanoke; one son, Eddie Ferrell of Opelika; his mother, Bonnie Ferrell of Wadley; and two sisters, Betty Hodges and Annie Noles, both of Wadley. He was preceded in death by his father, Grady Ferrell, and a brother, William Junior Ferrell. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24, at Benefield Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Randy Smith, Cloyse Johnson and Harris Hand officiating. Burial will follow at Ava United Methodist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Kerr was a native of Cullman County born May 18, 1925, the daughter of Jasper N. Stevens and Willie W. Bolt Stevens. She was raised and lived in Randolph County most of her life. She had been employed with Wedowee Motor Company as secretary and parts department manager for 20 years. Mrs. Kerr worked for Benefield Funeral Home of Wedowee as secretary and bookkeeper for 15 years. She also was a seamstress for many years and a good mother and friend. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert M. Kerr Sr., and a daughter, Wilma Katherine Kerr. Survivors include a daughter, Alyce Benefield of Wedowee; two sons, Robert M. Kerr Jr. of Wedowee and Alan Kerr of Obertshausen, Germany; two granddaughters; and three sisters, Betty Jo Strickland of Lakeland, Fla., Annie Lois Price of Raleigh, N.C., and Nora Ellen Stewart of Orlando, Fla.
