OBITUARIES:

Correction to Moore obituary:
   In the obituary for Christopher Moore in last week's Leader, the name of one of his 
grandparents was incorrect.  He was the grandson of Nell Whaley of Wadley, rather than 
Neil Whaley.

Mary Lillian Briskey Meadows

   (DAVISTON) Mary Lillian Briskey Meadows, 60, of Daviston died Friday, Oct. 30, 
1998, at her home.
   Funeral services were at Coger Hill C.M.E. Church, Daviston, on Tuesday Nov. 3, at 
1 p.m., with the Rev. Luther J. Swint and the Rev. Orlando Sims officiating.  Interment 
was in the church cemetery.
   Surviving are three sons, Roy Lee Jr., of Hayneville, Wilson Lee of Woodland and 
Claude Lee; five sisters, Edith Buchanan Rowe, Yvonnie O'Neal, Janice Meadows and 
Irish Thomas of Daviston and Bessie Mae Baggett of Roanoke; one sister, Evarn B. 
Presley; one brother, Ezekiel Briskey of Daviston; her step-father, George Hardnett of 
Wadley; 22 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, a host of aunts, uncles, nephews, 
nieces, relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by a son, Joe Lewis.
   Vines Funeral Home, LaFayette, was in charge of arrangements.

Will M. Wood

   (ROANOKE) Graveside funeral services for Will M. Wood, 98, of Roanoke will be at 
11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, 1998, at Randolph Memory Gardens, with the Rev. Hugh 
Vines officiating.
   Mr. Wood died Monday, Nov. 2, at Randolph County Hospital after a short illness.
   A lifelong resident of Randolph County, he was born Feb. 24, 1900, son of Dr. Frank 
Richard and Lola Pittman Wood.  He was a self-employed dairy farmer, a charter member 
of the Tallapoosa River Electric Authority, a member of Farm Bureau, and a deacon at 
Lebanon Christian Church.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Nell C. Wood.
   Survivors include two daughters, Miriam W. Haywood of Jacksonville and Nancy W. 
Jones of Greenville; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
   The family will received friends one hour prior to the services, beginning at 10 a.m. 
Wednesday, at Quattlebaum Funeral Home.
   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lebanon Christian Church, 
2100 County Rd. 79, Roanoke, AL 36274, or to your favorite charity.

OBITUARIES:

James McCoy 'Jimmy' Nolen

   (ROANOKE) Memorial services for James McCoy "Jimmy" Nolen, 65, of Roanoke 
were Saturday, Nov. 7, 1998, at 2 p.m. at Trinity Baptist Church, with the Rev. Barry 
Cosper officiating.  Tommy Fincher served as pallbearer.
   Mr. Nolen died Wednesday, Nov. 4, at his residence.
   A lifelong resident of Randolph County, he was born March 3, 1933, son of John 
William and Gladys Nolen.  He was retired from Daniel Construction, where he was a 
superintendent.  He was active with youth programs in Roanoke and for many years 
served as commissioner of Roanoke Little League.  From 1986 to 1988, Mr. Nolen served 
on the Roanoke City Council.  He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.
   Survivors include his wife, Mary John Nolen of Roanoke; one daughter, Angelia Danita 
Nolen of Greenville, S.C.; two sons, James Gregory Nolen of Greenville, S.C., and Jeffrey 
Lynn Nolen of Roanoke; three sisters, Virginia Hayes of Woodland, Sara Jones of Wadley 
and Patricia Hood of Opelika; two brothers, Jerry Nolen of Roanoke and Johnny Nolen of 
Woodland; and five grandchildren.
   To continue his interest in the community and missions, memorial donations can be 
made to the Jimmy Nolen Memorial Fund at Trinity Baptist Church, P.O. Box 705, 
Roanoke, AL 36274.

Clyde Eugene Dobson Jr.

   (WADLEY) Clyde Eugene Dobson Jr., 28, of Wadley died Friday, Nov. 6, 1998, while 
logging in Coosa County.
   Mr. Dobson was born in Randolph County on Nov. 6, 1970, son of Clyde Eugene and 
Margie Dobson of Wadley.
   Funeral services were at Macedonia Baptist Church in Randolph County on Sunday, 
Nov. 8, at 2 p.m., with interment in the church cemetery.  The Rev. Zenus Windsor and 
the Rev. Timmy Tippton officiated.
   Surviving are his wife, Renae Dobson of Wadley; one son, Braden Ridge Dobson of 
Wadley; his parents; and four sisters, Debbie Fetner of Roanoke, Tina Knight and Patricia 
Bailey of Wadley and Kelly McCain of Woodland.
   Mr. Dobson was employed by Mack Welch Logging Company.  A memorial fund will 
be set up at Farmers & Merchants Bank in LaFayette for the family.
   Arrangements were by Jeff Jones Funeral Home, LaFayette.

Clifford W. Sheppard

   (MORRISON CROSSROADS) Funeral services for Clifford W. Sheppard, 83, of 
Morrison Crossroads will be Thursday, Nov. 12, at 2 p.m. at Valley Grove Primitive 
Baptist Church, with Bro. Thomas Wortham and Bro. Billy Saxon officiating.  Burial will 
follow in the adjoining cemetery.
   Mr. Sheppard died Monday, Nov. 9, at Wedowee Hospital.  He was a native and 
lifelong resident of Randolph County, had worked at the Bowden [o] Rubber Plant for a 
number of years, and was of the Holiness Faith.
   He is survived by two daughters, Letha Sheppard of Wedowee and Clara Rush of 
Cragford; five sons, Amos Sheppard of Wedowee, Andy Sheppard of Anniston, Clarence 
Sheppard of Opelika, Buddy Sheppard of Mobile, and James Sheppard of Roanoke; one 
sister, Nellie Nickelson of Heflin; five brothers, Ralph Sheppard and Roy Sheppard of 
Lineville, Arvel Sheppard of Wedowee, and Heaton Sheppard and Charlie Sheppard of 
Mobile; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
   Pallbearers will be Terry Sheppard, Tracy Lipham, Jeff Fuller, Ricky Mulkey, Jack 
Sheppard, Benny Sheppard, Randy Sheppard, Jeffery Owens, Chris Hill and Terry Hill.  
Honorary pallbearers will be Frank Lipham, Leon Hill and Quinton Wortham.
   The family will receive friends at his residence at 9057 Co. Rd. 82 near Morrison 
Crossroads from 5 p.m. Wednesday until service time on Thursday.
   Arrangements are by Benefield Funeral Home, Lineville.

Una Lee Ware Martin

   (GADSDEN) Funeral services for Una Lee Ware Martin of Gadsden were Friday, 
Oct. 23, 1998, at Crestwood Chapel.  The Revs. Alton Paris and Tom Moge officiated, 
with burial in Crestwood Cemetery.
   Mrs. Martin was the daughter of the late Ed and Lucy Ware of the Green's Chapel 
community and Wedowee.  Mrs. Martin took her nurse's training at Forrest General 
Hospital, which later became Baptist Memorial Hospital, where she became a registered 
pediatric nurse.  She retired in 1978 with more than 30 years of service.  Mrs. Martin was 
a Gold Star Mother and a member of East Gadsden United Methodist Church.  She was 
preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Martin, and a son, Lance Cpl. Charles E. 
Martin.
   She is survived by a daughter, Ellen Holcomb; four grandchildren; two great- 
grandchildren; three brothers, E. L. and O. H. Ware of Florida and George Ware of 
California; three sisters, Bovene Mallory of Prattville, Edyth Hardman of Wedowee and 
Reba Chesser of Gadsden; a daughter-in-law, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, 
grandchildren-in-law, and a host of nieces and nephews.
   Pallbearers were family members.  Honorary pallbearers were the nurses and staff of 
Northside Health Care, Drs. Cross and Lindblad.

Grover L. 'Ted' Rice

   (WEDOWEE) Funeral services for Grover L. "Ted" Ride, 86, of Wedowee will be at 
2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, 1998, at First Baptist Church in Wedowee, with the Revs. 
Don Paris and Barry Cosper officiating.  Burial will follow in Lineville City Cemetery.
   Mr. Rice died Monday, Nov. 9, 1998, at Florence Hand Home in LaGrange, Ga., after 
an extended illness.
   A native and lifelong resident of Randolph County, Mr. Rice was born March 14, 1912, 
son of John L. and Willie Arrington Rice.  He was owner and operator of Ted's Service 
Station in Wedowee for many years.  Mr. Rice was an army veteran of World War II and 
a member of First Baptist Church in Wedowee.
   Survivors include one son, David Rice of Valley; one step-son, Tommy Bell of Jackson, 
Ga.; one sister, Nannie Butler of Roanoke; and three grandchildren.
   The family will receive friends at Benefield Funeral Home until one hour prior to 
services.
   Pallbearers will be Fay Williams, Tom Burnside, Bernard Austin, Alfred Brooks, John 
Seegar and Jerry Brazeal.
   Arrangements are by Benefield Funeral Home, Wedowee.

David L. Kirby

   (ROCK MILLS) Funeral services for David L. Kirby, 77, of Rock Mills were at 3 p.m. 
Tuesday, Nov. 10, 1998, with the Rev. Phillip Johnson and the Rev. Scott McKay 
officiating.  Burial was in Randolph Memory Gardens.
   Mr. Kirby died Sunday, Nov. 8, at West Georgia Medical Center, LaGrange.
   A lifelong resident of Randolph County, he was born March 17, 1921, son of Bob and 
Bertie Kirby.  He was employed in the textile industry, was a World War II veteran, and 
was a Methodist.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Willie Sue Kirby.
   Survivors include one daughter, Ellen Bassett of Newnan, GA; two sons Phil Kirby of 
Lanett and Kenneth Kirby of Rock Mills; one sister Bonnie Ferrell of Wadley; one brother, 
Okley Kirby of Lanett; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
   Pallbearers will be Ronnie Whaley, Phil Whaley, Bobby Kirby, Johnny Earnest, Stanley 
Earnest and Tim Sears.
   Arrangements were by Quattlebaum Funeral Home, Roanoke.

J. W. Reed

   (LAFAYETTE) J. W. Reed, 75, of LaFayette died Saturday, Nov. 7, 1998, at East 
Alabama Medical Center, Opelika.
   Funeral services were at LaFayette First United Methodist Church on Monday, Nov. 9, 
at 3 p.m., with interment in LaFayette City Cemetery.  The Rev. Michael Griggs 
officiated.
   Surviving are his wife, Mildred Welch Reed of LaFayette; three daughters, Judy 
Richardson and Dian Thomas of LaFayette and Carol Brown of Roanoke; one sister, 
Gladys Williams of LaFayette; one brother, Charles Reed of Dadeville; 11 grandchildren 
and seven great-grandchildren.
   Mr. Reed was born in Fairfax on June 22, 1923.  He was retired from West Point 
Pepperell's Fairview Mill.  He was a World War II veteran and a Mason and a member 
of LaFayette First United Methodist Church.  Memorial donations may be made to First 
United Methodist Church.

Thomas M. Swader

   (MILLTOWN) Thomas M. Swader, 80, of Milltown died Sunday, Nov. 8, 1998, 
at Randolph County Hospital, Roanoke.
   Funeral services were at Milltown Baptist Church on Tuesday, Nov. 10, at 2 p.m., with 
interment in Milltown Cemetery.  The Rev. Vernon Brown and the Rev. John Cole 
officiated.
   Survivors include one son, Larry Swader of Milltown; three sisters, Ruby Swader of 
Welch, Myrtle Cole of Milltown and Thelma Jarrell of Odessa, Texas; and three brothers, 
James Swader of Welch and Charlie Swader and M. B. "Bully" Swader of Valley.
   Mr. Swader was born in Chambers County on Feb. 20, 1918.  He was retired from West 
Point Pepperell's Langdale Mill after 44 years.  He was a member and deacon of Milltown 
Baptist Church and an army veteran of World War II.
   Arrangements were by Jeff Jones Funeral Home, LaFayette.

Bobby Gene Farr

   (RIVERDALE, Ga.) Bobby Gene Farr, 59, of Riverdale, Ga., died Saturday, Nov. 7, 
1998.  Mr. Farr was born and raised in Rock Mills before moving to Georgia in 1959.
   Survivors include a daughter, Kim Brown of Barnesville, Ga.; a son, Keith Farr of 
Riverdale; a grandson, two sisters, Ann Klusak of Geneva, Ill., and Linda Stanton of 
Lilburn, Ga.; a brother, Jess Farr Jr. of Fayetteville, Ga., and several nieces and nephews.
   Graveside services were Monday, Nov. 9, at 1 p.m. in Eternal Hills Memory Gardens.  
Those desiring may make donations to the American Heart Association.

Gracie Pearson

   (WADLEY) Gracie Pearson, 85, of Wadley died Saturday, Nov. 7, 1998, at Randolph 
County Hospital in Roanoke.
   Funeral services were at Hopewell Baptist Church in Wadley on Thursday, Nov. 12, at 
2 p.m. with the Rev. Raymond Cochran and Calvin Trammell officiating.  Burial was in 
the Provident Cemetery at Milltown.
   Mrs. Pearson is survived by seven children, Thelma Williams, Aradeil Pearson and 
Mellony Williams of Compton, Calif., Angelene Culpepper of Columbus, Ga., Cannon 
Pearson of Carson, Calif., Clemedean Staples and Betty Jean Momern of Wadley; two 
sisters, Bessie Gray of Tuskegee and Mattie White of LaGrange, Ga.; a godchild, Mary S. 
Turner; 22 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; and a 
host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
   Vines Funeral Home of LaFayette was in charge of arrangement.

Alma Brown Wilkerson

   (LAGRANGE, Ga.) Funeral services for Alma Brown Wilkerson, 89, of LaGrange, Ga., 
were at noon Thursday, Nov. 12, 1998, at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with the Rev. 
Elton Overton officiating.  Burial followed at Beulah Baptist Church.
   Mrs. Wilkerson died Tuesday, Nov. 10, at Brian Center Nursing Home in LaGrange.
   A resident of LaGrange for the past five years, she was born in Randolph County, Ala., 
May 1, 1909, daughter of Jim and Nancy Prestridge Brown.  She was a homemaker and a 
member of Beulah Baptist Church.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert 
Zelmer Wilkerson, a daughter, Mary Jewell Sanders Lee, and one son, Fred Wilkerson.
   Survivors include one sister, Jeanette Moore of Hampton, Va.; four grandchildren, 
Sharon Cummings, Jan Hedrix, Tracie Campbell and Tim Wilkerson, all of LaGrange; 
seven great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
   Pallbearers were Chad Harris, Roger Campbell, Joe Cummings, Ralph Riddle, Jamie 
Hedrix and Joey Lee.
   Quattlebaum Funeral Home, Roanoke, was in charge of arrangements.

Affie Mae Jordan

   (LAFAYETTE) Affie Mae Jordan, 86, of LaFayette died Saturday, Nov. 7, 1998, in 
Roanoke.  Funeral services were at Friendship Baptist Church Saturday, Nov. 14, at 
1 p.m. with the Rev. Cornelius Reese officiating.  Interment was in the Handy Cemetery.
   Survivors include one daughter, Anne Pearl Parkman of Youngstown, Ohio; one sister, 
Ethel Boatwright of Youngstown; two brothers, Jesse Brooks of Knoxville, Tenn., and 
John Eddie Brooks of Dallas, Texas; five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, seven 
great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
   Vines Funeral Home in LaFayette was in charge of the arrangements.

Louis Harrison Northington

   (WEDOWEE) Louis Harrison Northington, 54, of Wedowee died Thursday, Nov. 12, 
1998, at Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center.  
   Funeral services were at 2 p.m. CST on Saturday, Nov. 14, at Zion Rest Baptist Church 
in Wedowee, the Rev. William Phillips officiating.  Music was furnished by the church 
choir.  Burial was in the church cemetery.
   Mr. Northington was born Dec. 28, 1943, in Lamar County, son of Lucile Betts 
Simpson Northington and the late Buchana Northington.  He was employed by Terry 
Manufacturing and Construction as a carpenter and was a member of Zion Rest Baptist 
Church, Wedowee.  
  He is survived by his wife, Izora Chappell Northington of Wedowee; four sons, Danny 
Chappell of Atlanta, Kim Durrell Northington of Columbus, Ohio, Marcus Antony 
Northington of Wedowee and Willie Louis Northington of Anniston; and one grandchild.

Barbara Jean Davidson

   (WEDOWEE) Funeral services for Barbara Jean Davidson, 71, of Wedowee were 
Tuesday, Nov. 17, 1998, at 2 p.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel, with the Revs. Sonny 
McCormick and Thomas Boykin officiating.  Burial was at New Harmony Christian 
Church cemetery in Lineville.
   Mrs. Davidson died Sunday, Nov. 15, at National Health Care in Anniston.
   A former resident of Clay County, Mrs. Davidson was a Harts, Mich., native, born 
Oct. 2, 1927, daughter of Theodore and Hazel Webb Koberg.  She had retired from 
Fashion Star.  Mrs. Davidson was preceded in death by a daughter, Veronica England; 
a son, Roger Davidson; and a sister, Jackie.
   Survivors include her husband, Robert Davidson of Wedowee; two daughters, Shelby 
Jean Hardy of Carrollton, Ga., and Shirley Davidson of Ranburne; four sons, Terry 
Davidson and Bruce Dale Davidson of Roanoke and Robert Ford Davidson and Johnny 
Ray Davidson of Wedowee; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
   Pallbearers were Brian Bevels, Pete Davidson, Mark McCormick, Daniel Davidson, 
William Wilkerson and Craig Davidson.

Elsie R. Traylor

   (NEWELL) Elsie R. Traylor, 85, of Newell died Monday, Nov. 16, 1998, at Wedowee 
Hospital.
   She was born in Buford, Ga., Oct. 14, 1913, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jamie Reece.
   She had been employed with J. C. Penney Company and was a Catholic.
   Survivors include her husband, Grady Traylor of Newell; one step-daughter, Deborah 
Grismark of Decatur, Ga.; and two grandchildren.
   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society, 
1599 Clifton Road NE, Atlanta, GA 30329.

Mary Elizabeth Bailey

   (ROANOKE) Funeral services for Mary Elizabeth Bailey, 73, of Roanoke were 
Monday, Nov. 16, 1998, at 2 p.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. 
S. T. Janney officiating.  Burial was at Union Hill Baptist Church cemetery.
   Mrs. Bailey died Saturday, Nov. 14, at Randolph County Hospital.
   A former resident of Birmingham, Mrs. Bailey was a Chambers County native, born 
Oct. 14, 1925, daughter of Burl and Bannie Nichols Ridings.  She was a homemaker and 
a member of Crestway Baptist Church in Birmingham.
   Survivors include her husband, Melvin Leroy Bailey of Roanoke; one daughter, 
Charlotte Ann Breece of Birmingham; two sons, Terry A. Bailey and M. Lamar Bailey of 
Birmingham; one sister, Kathleen Oswalt of Wetumpka; four grandchildren and seven 
great-grandchildren.
   Pallbearers were Skinny Lewis, J. W. Jackson, Wiley Richardson, David Oswalt and 
Don Oswalt.
   Arrangements were by Quattlebaum Funeral Home, Roanoke.

Andrea Merrill Carter

   (GRAHAM) Mr. Andrea Merrill Carter, 23, of Graham died Friday, Nov. 13, 1998, 
as the result of an automobile accident.
   Funeral services were Tuesday, Nov. 17, at 11 a.m. at Oak Grove A.M.E. Church, 
Newell, with the Rev. William H. Trammell Sr. and Elder Jonathan Cooper officiating.  
Burial was in the church cemetery.
   Survivors include his father, Andrew Carter of Graham; a sister, April Carter of Graham; 
a brother, Stacy Carter of Graham; two grandmothers, Ester Ruth Carter of Graham and 
Callie Hudson of Bowdon, Ga.; three uncles and five aunts.  He was preceded in death by 
his mother, Inez Elizabeth Carter.
   Arrangements were by Clark Memorial Funeral Service, Roanoke.

Arthur M. Rodvold

   (SAN JOSE, Calif.) Memorial services were held for Arthur M. Rodvold on Saturday, 
Nov. 14, 1998.  He died Nov. 3 in Cupertino, Calif.  Pastor David Rommereim and Pastor 
Tim Huff officiated.  Lima Family Mortuary handled the arrangements.
   Mr. Rodvold was born July 25, 1916, in Osakis, Minn., son of Magnus and Sarah 
Rodvold.  He was raised on a farm in Divide County, N.D., and received his education 
there.  He served in the military during World War II from 1942 to 1945.
   He was in partnership in a dry cleaning plant in Crosby, N.D., and moved to Cavalier, 
N.D., in 1954, where he owned a dry cleaning plant.  He moved to California in 1966 and 
managed a cleaning plant in Mountain View, Calif., until his retirement in 1981.
   He was a member of Christ the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and the American 
Legion in San Jose, Calif.
   He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, and son, Douglas, of San Jose; two daughters, 
Janine Knudsen of Wedowee and Doreen Wight of San Jose; 12 grandchildren; 
10 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Selmer Rodvold of Columbia Heights, Minn., and 
Melvin Rodvold of Crosby, N.D.  His parents, three brothers and two children preceded 
him in death.

Lewis Willard Putman Jr.

   (WEDOWEE) Funeral services for Lewis Willard Putman Jr., 64, of Wedowee will be 
at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, 1998, from Wedowee Church of God of Life and Praise 
with the Revs. Roger Nolen and Jerry Simmons officiating.  Burial will follow in Valley 
Grove Primitive Baptist Cemetery.
   Mr. Putman died Tuesday, Nov. 17, at his residence following an extended illness.
   He was born Jan. 29, 1934, in Calhoun County, son of Lewis Willard and Lillie Mae 
Putman.  He had been employed with General Motors and was of the Holiness faith.
   Survivors include his wife, Minnie Lee Cobb Putman of Wedowee; two daughters, Lisa 
Lamb of Wedowee and Sondra Dove of Bridgeview, Ill., one son, Mitchell Hill of Polk 
City, Fla.; two sisters, Imogene Sheppard of Wedowee and Hilda Hunt of Hampton, Ga.;

Wayne Putman of Valparaiso, Ind., and Ricky Putman of Alabama; five grandchildren; and 
several nieces and nephews.
   Mr. Putman will lie in state at the church for one hour beginning at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, 
Nov. 19.

Clatis Harold Cosper

   (LINEVILLE) Funeral services for Clatis Harold Cosper, 85, of Lineville, formerly of 
Randolph County, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, 1998, at Jordan's Chapel 
Congregational Methodist Church, with the Revs. Ray Runyan and Leron Murphy 
officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
   Mr. Cosper died Monday, Nov. 16, at Clay County Hospital in Ashland.
   He was born June 22, 1913, in Randolph County, son of Grover Cleveland and Lola V. 
Cosper.  He had been self-employed as a carpenter and was a deacon of Union Baptist 
Church and a member of Masonic Lodge Sawyer 96 at Graham.
   Survivors include his wife, Elsie Cosper of Lineville; two sons, Benny Cosper and Larry 
Cosper of Wedowee; one brother, Davis Cosper of Wedowee; four grandchildren and five 
great-grandchildren.
   Mr. Cosper will lie in state at the church beginning at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
   Memorial contributions can be floral or donations can be made to The Children's 
Hospital, 1600 7th Avenue South, Birmingham, AL 35233.
   Pallbearers will be Tony Messer, Franklin Murphy, Wayne Wortham, Thomas Traylor, 
Warren Williams and Dwayne Noles.

Charlie Calvin Walker

   (FRANKLIN, Ga.) Charlie Calvin Walker, 69, of Franklin, Ga., died Sunday, Nov. 15, 
1998, at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange after several months of declining 
health.
   Mr. Walker was born Oct. 8, 1929, in Troup County, Ga., son of the late Jesse Walker 
and Maggie Ruth White Walker.  He was a 30-year employee of Franklin Aluminum 
Company, where he served as the packing room supervisor.  He was a member of 
Callaway Baptist Church in LaGrange and a member of the LaGrange Masonic Lodge.
   Funeral services will be Wednesday, Nov. 18, at 4 p.m. at Franklin First Baptist Church, 
with the Rev. Talmadge Chandler and the Rev. Max McCord officiating.  Interment will 
follow in Randolph Memory Garden, Rock Mills.
   Mr. Walker is survived by his wife, Mrs. Betty Owens Walker of Franklin; one daughter, 
Ginger Cornelius of Carrollton, Ga.; three sons, Rick Walker of Rome, Ga., Billy Walker 
of LaGrange and Danny Walker of Woodland, Ga.; one brother, Billy Walker of Pine 
Bluff, Ark.; and six grandchildren.

John Emory Harrell

   (ROANOKE) Funeral services for John Emory Harrell, 85, of Roanoke were Monday, 
Nov. 16, 1998, at 11 a.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Don Quick 
officiating.  Burial was at White's Chapel cemetery.
   Mr. Harrell died suddenly at Randolph County Hospital in Roanoke on Saturday, 
Nov. 14.
   A former resident of Guntersville, Mr. Harrell was a Buchanan, Ga., native, born 
April 8, 1913, son of James R. and Ella Jones Harrell.  He was a self-employed farmer.
   Survivors include one daughter, Willene Matthews of Albertville; two sons, Isaac 
Harrell of Geraldine and Billy Jack Harrell of Albertsville; one sister, Mary Tucker of 
Roanoke; and two brothers, Tommy Harrell of Cedartown, Ga., and Claudie Harrell of 
Argon, Ga.
   Arrangements were by Quattlebaum Funeral Home, Roanoke.

Regina Davis Horn

   (CINCINNATI, Ohio) Funeral services for Regina Davis Horn, 51, of Cincinnati, Ohio, 
were Friday, Nov. 6, 1998, at 7 p.m. at Southern Baptist Church, Cincinnati, with the 
Rev. E. Dennis Edwards officiating.  Interment was at Spring Grove Cemetery.
   Ms. Davis died Saturday, Oct. 31.
   She was born Oct. 27, 1947, daughter of the late John and Pauline Davis.  She was a 
member of St. Paul Baptist Church in Roanoke and later Southern Baptist Church in 
Cincinnati.
   She is survived by two daughters, Tonya Horn of Belleville, Ill., and Ebony Horn of 
Birmingham; her fiance, Louis Frechette of Cincinnati; four sisters, Louise Green and 
Wynola Mozee of Cincinnati, Ola Grace Robinson of Atlanta, Ga., and Johnnie Ruth 
Thornton of Anderson, Ala.; two brothers, Neola Davis of Roanoke and Willie Lee Davis 
of Phoenix, Ariz.; one granddaughter; and a host of other relatives and friends.
   Pallbearers were Russell L. Smith, Kilmon Mozee, Clyde Wells, Lawrence Green, Willie 
Green and Andrew Wamble.  Special music was provided by the choir and by Donna 
Riley.
   Funeral arrangements were by Donald & Stewart Funeral Home Inc., Cincinnati.

Mentie Camp Lovvorn

   (ANNISTON)  Funeral services for Mentie Camp Lovvorn, 84, of Anniston, formerly of 
Wedowee, were Saturday, Nov. 21, 1998 at 2 p.m. at Parker Memorial Baptist Church, 
Anniston, with the Revs. Daniel Randall and Billy Harris officiating.  Burial was in 
Highland Cemetery in Anniston.
   Mrs. Lovvorn died Friday, Nov 20, at Chapman Nursing Home in Alexander City.
   A native of Randolph County, she was born March 3, 1914, to Willie Joe and Ola 
Samantha Camp.  Mrs. Lovvorn was a teacher and a member of Parker Memorial Baptist 
Church.
   She is survived by two daughters, Robbie L. Granger of Alexander City and JoAnn L. 
Rutherford of Montgomery; two brothers, Ralph Camp of Montgomery and Blake Camp 
of Bowdon, Ga.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
   The family will accept flowers or contributions may be made to Parker Memorial Baptist 
Church.

Vickie Lynn Cantrell

   (WOODLAND) Funeral services for Vickie Lynn Cantrell, 35, of Woodland will be 
Wednesday, Nov. 25, 1998, at 2 p.m. at Highway Congregational Methodist Church with 
the Revs. David Daniel and Wayne Jeton officiating.  Burial will follow in the adjoining 
cemetery.
   Mrs. Cantrell died suddenly Sunday, Nov. 22, at Wedowee Hospital.
   She was a native of Heard County, Ga.  Mrs. Cantrell was a homemaker and a member 
of Highway Congregational Methodist Church.
   Survivors include her husband, Major Cantrell of Woodland; a daughter, Wendy 
Richardson of Woodland; a son, Joshua Richardson of Woodland; her parents, Gervis and 
Mary Noles of Woodland; and three brothers, Danny Noles and Chad Noles of Lanett and 
Justin Noles of Woodland.
   Pallbearers will be Erlis West, Rodney Richardson, Donnie Cantrell, Danny Cantrell, 
Huey Noles and Ted Noles.
   The family will receive friends at Benefield Funeral Home from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, 
Nov. 24.  Mrs. Cantrell will lie in state at the church one hour prior to services.

Gay M. Ferrell

   (ROANOKE) Funeral services for Gay M. Ferrell, 68, of Roanoke will be Tuesday, 
Nov. 24, 1998, at 11 a.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with Wes Kinsey and Gerald 
Romine officiating.  Burial will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery.
   Mr. Ferrell died Sunday, Nov. 22, at Hospice of LaGrange following an extended 
illness.
   A lifelong resident of Randolph County, he was born June 6, 1930, son of Grady and 
Bonnie Ferrell.  He was a mechanic with Palm Beach Company, a Korean War veteran 
and a member of Roanoke Christian Church.
   Survivors include his wife, Myrtice Broach Ferrell of Roanoke; one son, Eddie Ferrell of 
Opelika; his mother, Bonnie Ferrell of Wadley; and two sisters, Betty Hodges and Annie 
Noles, both of Wadley.  He was preceded in death by his father, Grady Ferrell, and a 
brother, William Junior Ferrell.
   Pallbearers will be Red Taylor, Ray Simpson, John Harmon, Ronald Taylor, Owen 
Shelnutt and John Frank Burdette.  Honorary pallbearers will be Hoyt Waldrep, Dr. 
Chester Primm, Charles May, Gordon Hodges, Leon Phillips and Bobby Jones.

Wilma Myrtis Kerr

   (WEDOWEE) Wilma Myrtis Kerr, 73, of Wedowee died Sunday, Nov. 22, 1998, 
at Wedowee Hospital following an extended illness.
   Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24, at Benefield Funeral Home Chapel 
with the Revs. Randy Smith, Cloyse Johnson and Harris Hand officiating.  Burial will 
follow at Ava United Methodist Church Cemetery.
   Mrs. Kerr was a native of Cullman County born May 18, 1925, the daughter of Jasper 
N. Stevens and Willie W. Bolt Stevens.  She was raised and lived in Randolph County 
most of her life.  She had been employed with Wedowee Motor Company as secretary and 
parts department manager for 20 years.  Mrs. Kerr worked for Benefield Funeral Home of 
Wedowee as secretary and bookkeeper for 15 years.  She also was a seamstress for many 
years and a good mother and friend.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert 
M. Kerr Sr., and a daughter, Wilma Katherine Kerr.
   Survivors include a daughter, Alyce Benefield of Wedowee; two sons, Robert M. Kerr 
Jr. of Wedowee and Alan Kerr of Obertshausen, Germany; two granddaughters; and three 
sisters, Betty Jo Strickland of Lakeland, Fla., Annie Lois Price of Raleigh, N.C., and Nora 
Ellen Stewart of Orlando, Fla.
   Pallbearers will be the employees of Benefield Funeral Home of Wedowee and 
Quattlebaum Funeral Home of Roanoke.
