Bertha A. McFalls
Mrs. Bertha A. ''Honey" McFalls, 77, 712 N. Fourth Street, Bellwood, died 
Friday evening, September 10, 1999, at Altoona Hospital, following a brief 
illness. She was born February 2, 1922, in Bellwood, the daughter of the 
late Robert T. and Florence (Bowers) Douglass. She married Charles E. "Elsy" 
McFalls January  8, 1941, in Cumberland, MD. He died January 13,
1980. Mrs. McFalls was a member of Bellwood Church of the Brethren. She 
attended Bellwood-Antis High School. Mrs. McFalls was a homemaker. She 
enjoyed making crafts. She was a member of Ladies Auxiliary,  Fraternal  
Order  of Eagles, Bellwood, Logan Valley Grange  and  Bellwood  Antis Alumni 
Association. Surviving are four daughters: Doris A. Clouser of Reightown, 
Betty J. McClellan of Tyrone, Carol L. Ruggiere, with whom she resided, and 
Helen M. Oswald of Altoona; four   sons:   Harold   E.   of Downingtown,  
Charles  L.  of Flinton, Robert E. of Gardner, MA, and Richard L. of 
McKeesport; two brothers; Kenneth of Kenmore, NY, and William of North 
Tonawanda, NY; 19 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Monday at Jon C. Russin 
Funeral Home, Bellwood.
McFALLS- Private funeral services for Bertha A. McFalls will be held at the 
convenience of the family by the Rev. Alan Brumbaugh. Interment will be made 
at Blair Memorial Park, Antis Township. Friends will be received from 9:30 
to 11 a.m. Monday at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Bellwood. Donations in 
Bertha's memory may be made to the Palliative Care Department of Altoona 
Hospital or the Bellwood Ambulance Association. Surviving are three 
daughters-in-law: Eloise McFalls, Linda McFalls, and Barbara McFalls; three 
sons-in-law: Marvin Clouser, Paul Ruggier and George Oswald; and two 
sisters-in-law: Betty Douglass and La Gretta Douglass. She was preceded in 
death by two brothers: Elray Douglass and Elwood Douglass; a son-in-law, 
Ellis McClellan, who died July 13, 1999, one great-grandchild; and a 
sister-in-law, Shirley Douglass.

Lisa Diane Snider
Ms. Lisa Diane Snider, 33, of Claysburg RD, formerly of New Enterprise, died 
Thursday afternoon, September 9, 1999, at Conemaugh Memorial Hospital, 
Johnstown. She was born September 8, 1966, in Roaring Spring, the daughter 
of Ronald E. and Shelby (Reffner)
Snider. She was a member of the New Enterprise Church of the Brethren. She 
was employed at PennDOT, Bedford County in Housekeeping and dispatching. She 
also was a waitress in the Bedford area. She was a 1984 graduate of Central 
High School, Martinsburg. Surviving are her mother and father of New 
Enterprise RD; two sons: David Van Pelt IV and Jacob R. Van Pelt, both of 
Bedford; two sisters: Ronda Feather of Deep Creek, MD and Nevette of New
Enterprise RD; and her grandparents: Kenneth and Freeda Reffner of Roaring 
Spring. There will be no viewing, but friends will be received 7 to 9 p.m. 
Sunday in the J. Gary Thompson
Funeral Home, Roaring Spring.
SNIDER- Funeral services for Lisa Diane Snider of Claysburg RD, formerly of 
New Enterprise
will be held at the convenience of the family by the Rev. Robert C. Langtry. 
Interment in Bedford
Memorial Park Cemetery. There will be no viewing, but friends will be 
received 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the J. Gary Thompson Funeral Home, Roaring 
Spring. She was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Jacob, who died May 
29, 1969.

James E. Rouzer (photo)
James E. Rouzer, 72, Beverly Healthcare-Hillview, died Saturday, September 
11, 1999, at the center. He was born February 19, 1927, in Altoona the son 
of the late Chester and Nancy (Davis)
Rouzer. He was a member of Fairless Hills United Methodist Church,  Fairless 
Hills and a member of Grace United Methodist Church. Mr. Rouzer retired from 
United States Steel, Fairless Hills, in 1985. He was a First Class Seaman in 
the United States Navy and served in World War II, serving on the U.S.S. 
Lyman K. Swenson. He was a member of Masonic Scottish  Rite, Altoona  Jaffa 
Temple, Toll Cedars of Lebanon 131, and American Legion. Surviving are a 
son, Ronald of Royersford; a sister, Alma Isenberg of Johnstown; a brother, 
William of Butler; and a grandson. Friends will be received from 3 to 5 p.m. 
Sunday, at Leslie E. Axe Funeral Home.
ROUZER- Funeral services for James E. Rouzer will be held at Sunday 4:30 
p.m. at Leslie Axe
Funeral Home by Pastor Daniel Schultz. Friends will be received from 3 to 5 
p.m. Sunday at Leslie Axe Funeral Home. Surviving are a grandson, Joshua 
Rouzer; and a daughter-in-law, Michele. Memorial contributions can be made

Dorothy M. Buterbaugh
Mrs. Dorothy M. Buterbaugh, 78, Cherry Tree RD 2, died Friday September 10, 
1999, at St. Andrew's Villiage, Indiana. She was born September 14, 1920, in 
Mechanicsburg, the daughter of
Russell  and  Evelyn  (Stevens) Whitehead. She married the late William M. 
Buterbaugh. He died in 1994. Mrs. Buterbaugh was a member of  the  Uniontown 
Church of Christ, where she was a member of the Ladies Bible Class, and 
taught Sunday School. Mrs. Buterbaugh was a member of
the Cherry Tree Civic Club and former member of the Rebeka's Lodge. 
Surviving  are  three  sons: William R of Cherry Tree, James A. of Somerset 
and David E. of Landenberg; two daughters: Judith A. Elick and Sharon M. 
O'Shell, both of Cherry Tree; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two 
great-great-grandchildren; and a step-grandson. Friends will be received 
from 1 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Long-Contres Funeral Home, Cherry 
Tree. Interment will be made at East Ridge Cemetery Arrangements by

Mrs. Lola A. Cherry, 95, Blair Christian Home, Duncansville, formerly of 
Blair Tower and Second Avenue, died Saturday evening, September 11, 1999, at

Patrick M. Parisi, 70, 502 Third Ave., died Saturday, September 11, 1999, at 
Altoona Hospital. He was born April 22, 1929, in Altoona, the son of the 
late Ralphael and  Pasquelina Parisi. He married Dolores M. Fagan December 
26, 1950, in Altoona. Mr. Parisi was a member of Our Lady of  Mt. Carmel 
Catholic Church. He was employed by Pennsylvania Railroad but retired
from the Pennsylvania National Insurance Company as a licensed agent. He was 
a 1947 graduate of Altoona High School. He served in the United States Army, 
fighting in the Korean conflict.
Mr. Parisi enjoyed golfing and fishing. He was a member of American Legion 
A&J Iaia post and the Heidleberg. Surviving are a daughter, Donna M. 
Stiffler of Altoona; a son, Daniel P. of Salisbury; and a sister, Helen 
Faretta of Altoona; and four grandchildren. Friends will be received from 2 
to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Santella Funeral Home, Altoona.
PARISI- A funeral Mass for Patrick M. Parisi will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday 
at Our Lady of Mt.
Carmel Church. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery Friends will be 
received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Santella Funeral Home, 
where a vigil of the deceased will follow   after. Surviving are a 
daughter-in-law, Roberta Parisi; and four grandchildren: Tommy, Danny, Steve 
and Christine. He was preceded in death by two brothers: Daniel and Michael 
Parisi; and a sister, Regina Parisi.

Margaret Ruth Carney
Mrs. Margaret Ruth Carney, 85, Fairview, Altoona, died Saturday morning, 
September 11, 1999, at Morrisons Cove Home, Martinsburg. She was born 
December 16, 1913, in Tremont, the daughter of Charles and Emma Louise 
Simmendinger. She married Albert S. Carney September 25, 1943, in State 
College. Mrs. Carney was a member of Christ Second Lutheran Church.
She was a registered nurse and a homemaker. She graduated from Tremont High 
School in 1931 and Blockley School of Nursing in 1934. She received a 
bachelor of science degree in Public
Health Nursing from the University of Pennsylvania. She was a member of 
Order of
the Eastern Star, White Shrine of Jerusalem and the Daughters of the Nile. 
Surviving are her husband; three daughters: Mary L. of Sierra Madre, CA, 
Barbara A. Oare of Mogadore, OH, and Margaret D. Hatch of Altoona; one 
grandson; and two great-grandsons. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 
7 to 9 p.m. Monday and 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at E. Merrill Smith Funeral 
Home, Broad Avenue.
CARNEY- Funeral services for Margaret Ruth Carney will be held at 10 a.m. 
Tuesday at E. Merrill Smith Funeral Home Inc., 2309 Broad Ave., Altoona, 
with Pastor Roger  M.  Harms  officiating. Friends will be received from 2 
to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and 9 until the 10 a.m. time of  services 
Tuesday at E. Merrill Smith Funeral Home, Broad Avenue. Interment will be at 
St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Belleville. In remembrance of Margaret Ruth 
Carney, those who wish may make contributions  to  the  Charity Foundation 
of 'the Grand Holy Royal Arch Chapter of Pennsylvania, Masonic Temple, 1 N. 
Broad St., Philadelphia. She is survived by a grandson: Douglas Oare of 
Worwich, CT; and two great-grandsons:  Patrick  and Adam Oare of Norwich, 
CT. She was preceded in death by two sisters:  Alma Simmendinger  and Marian 
Simmendinger.

John R. Steele
John R. Steele, 81, 794 Topaz Drive, Rockledge, FL, formerly of Martinsburg, 
died Thursday September 9, 1999 at residence in Rockledge, FL. He was born 
May 5, 1918, in Martinsburg. He retired as a manager from Bell Atlantic 
Telephone Harrisburg, in 1980 after 35 years of service. Mr. Steele was a 
member of Elks Lodge 1744 in Melbourne, FL, Royal Order of the Moose, Life
member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, and a member of Space Trackers 
Square Dance Club. He was a World War II Army veteran. Surviving are his 
wife, Helen Steele of Rockledge, FL; a son, Gary Steele of Montgomery; a 
daughter, Deborah Saline of Camp Hill; three grandchildren; and one 
great-granddaughter. No services will be held. Arrangements by East  Coat 
Cremation, Rockledge.

James A. Collins, 67, 226 E. Fifth Avenue, died Saturday afternoon, 
September 11, 1999, at the Altoona Hospital Center for Nursing Care, 
following an extended illness. He was born July 15, 1932, in Altoona, the 
son of Joseph B. and Florence A. (Himes) Collins. He married Mary Jeanne 
Crowl, May 6, 1952, in Winchester VA. Mr. Collins was a member of St. Mark's 
Catholic Church. He retired as a warehouse man in 1982, from the A&P 
Warehouse, after 31 years of service. He also worked at the Altoona Hospital 
Community Mental Health Center until 1991, with seven years of service. Mr. 
Collins was a 1951 graduate of Altoona High School. He was a member of the 
International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 110. Surviving are his wife; 
two daughters: Sharon of Hollidaysburg and Linda of Dublin, Ohio; a sister, 
Ann Wessner of Altoona; and a brother, Joseph of Austin, TX; one grandson; 
and two great-grandsons. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathleen L. 
Taylor, who died April 8, 1977. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 
to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Jones Funeral Home.
COLLINS- The funeral Mass will be held Wednesday 10 a.m. at St. Mark's 
Catholic Church. Committal rites will be at Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood. 
A vigil for the deceased will be held Tuesday afternoon. In lieu of flowers, 
please make donations to the American Heart Association, American Cancer 
Society or Williamson Free School of Trades, 106 S. New Middletown Rd, 
Media, PA 19063. Also surviving is a grandson, Brett Amheiser; a 
granddaughter-in-law, Jennifer Amheiser; two great-grandsons: Alex and Jack 
Amheiser; and Linda's friend John Flores of Dublin OH. Mr. Collins was a 
devoted family man, hard-worker and always willing to help others. He loved 
his grandson and his family. He was always there for us.

Lola A. Cherry
Mrs. Lola A. Cherry, 95, Blair Christian Home, Duncansville, formerly of 
Blair Tower and Second Avenue, died Saturday evening, September 11, 1999, at 
Bon Secours-Holy Family Hospital, following a brief illness. She was born 
June 29, 1904, in Altoona, the daughter of Irvin P. and Annie M. Gable. She 
married Raul R. Cherry March 4, 1926, at Fourth Lutheran Church, Altoona. He 
died October 9, 1963. Mrs. Cherry was a member of Second Avenue United 
Methodist Church. She formerly was employed as a clerk at W.F. Gable Co. for 
over 50 years. She was a former member of the Quarter Century Club at 
Gable's Department Store. Mrs. Cherry enjoyed entertaining at her cottage in 
Linns Crossing, Hollidaysburg RD. Friends will be received from 1 to 2 p.m. 
Tuesday at William G. Bigelow II Funeral Home.
CHERRY- Services for Lola A. Cherry of Blair Christian Home, Duncansville, 
will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at William G. Bigelow II Funeral Home by the 
Rev. Andy R. Morgan. Interment will be at Antis Cemetery. Friends will be 
received from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at William G. Bigelow II Funeral Home. 
Mrs. Cherry was the last of her immediate family and was preceded in death 
by several brothers and sisters. In Lola's memory, contributions can be 
given to Second Avenue United Methodist Church.

Donald L. Wertz, 65, Box 507, Hollidaysburg RR 3, died Saturday afternoon, 
September 11, 1999, at Beverly Healthcare-Hillview. He was born February 23, 
1934, in Loop Station, Hollidaysburg, son of the late Virgil M. and Helen E. 
(Snowberger) Wertz. Mr. Wertz was a member of West Loop Missionary Church 
and its Sunday school class and served as assistant pianist. He also 
attended Loop Station Community Church, where he served as pianist. He 
played the piano for church groups and community functions. He formerly was 
employed by the
Blair County Garage, Hollidaysburg, Dave's Dream and Chilcote's Restaurant. 
Mr. Wertz was a 1952 graduate of Hollidaysburg Senior High School and a 1957 
graduate from Bethel College, with a bachelor of arts degree. Mr. Wertz was 
a member of the Cross Keys Senior Citizens Group
and the Duncansville Golden Agers. He is survived by two brothers: Kenneth 
H. and Robert E., both of West Loop, Hollidaysburg. Friends will be received 
from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Sorge Funeral Home, 
Hollidaysburg.
WERTZ- Funeral services for Donald L. Wertz will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday 
at Sorge Funeral Home by Pastor David L. Foor. Interment will be made at 
Alto-Reste Park. He is survived by five nieces and nephews, 14 great-nieces 
and nephews and four aunts. Memorials may be given to WJSM Radio, 
Martinsburg. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at 
the funeral home. Mr. Wertz enjoyed helping others.

Michael H. Treese
Michael H. Treese, 42, Morrisons Cove Home, Martinsburg, formerly  of   
Roaring  Spring,  died
Saturday evening, September 11, 1999, at the home, following an extended 
illness. He was born January 8, 1957, in Roaring Spring, the son of Ted and 
Donna (Grace) Treese. Mr. Treese was a member of Trinity United Methodist 
Church, Roaring Spring. He was employed as a computer
programmer at Seton Company, Saxton. Mr. Treese was a 1974 graduate of 
Central High School, Martinsburg. He enjoyed fishing and working on cars. 
Surviving are his father and mother of Roaring Spring; a daughter, Kirsten 
of Bellwood; two sons: Jason and Nicholas, both of Bellwood; two sisters: 
Cheryl of Atlanta  and  Becky  Shaw  of Roaring Spring; a brother, Kevin of 
DuBois; and two grandmothers: Ethel Treese of Roaring Spring and Louise 
Grace of Duncansville. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 
p.m. Tuesday in J. Gary Thompson Funeral Home, Roaring Spring.
TREESE- Funeral services for Michael H. Treese of Morrisons Cove Home,

C. Louise Lender
Mrs.  C.  Louise Lender,  71, University Park Nursing Center, State College, 
died Sunday evening, September 11, 1999,  at University Park Nursing Center. 
She was born April 4, 1928, in
Coalport, the daughter of Frank and Alberta (Walker) Cossick. She married 
Edward J. Lender November 24, 1954, in Coalport. He died December 6, 1995. 
Mrs. Lender was a member of
First United Methodist Church. She retired as a sales clerk from G.C. Murphy 
in 1992, after 13 years of service. Mrs. Lender was a 1946 graduate of 
Baccaria Coalport Irvona High School. She was a member of Order of the 
Eastern Star and Daughters of the Nile. Surviving  are  three  sons:
Edward E of Fort Myers, FL, and Robert D. and Richard J., both of Altoona;  
two  brothers:  Garth Cossick and Ben Cossick, both of Coalport;  seven 
grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Friends will be received from 11 
a.m. to 12 p.m. Tuesday at E. Merrill Smith Funeral Home Inc., Broad Avenue.

Howard R. Colebaugh Jr.
Howard  R.  Colebaugh  Jr., Uniontown, died Friday, September 10, 1999, at 
the Uniontown Hospital. He was born in Imler, the son of he late Howard R. 
Sr. and Bertha (Benton) Colebaugh.
Mr. Colebaugh was a veteran of World War B serving in the U.S. Navy. 
Surviving are his wife, Vera K. Colebaugh of Claysburg; a daughter, Ellen 
Sell of Claysburg; a son, Chris Colebaugh of Claysburg; three sisters: 
Kathleen Robinson and Mary Grabil, both of Akron, Ohio, and Joyce Cober of 
Berlin; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Friends will be

Mrs. Mildred I. Laird, 77, Ohesson Manor, Lewistown, formerly of North Queen 
Street, McVeytown, died Sunday morning, September 12, 1999, at the manor. 
She was born October 25, 1921, the daughter of Herman and Bessie M. (Aurand) 
Bubb. She married Paul E. Laird, Sr., who was born in Altoona. Mrs. Laird 
was a member of McVeytown Presbyterian Church. She retired as a cafeteria 
worker from Mifflin County School District. Surviving are her husband; two 
daughters: Gloria J. Ronk of McVeytown and Joyce Laird of Burnham; a son, 
Paul E. Jr. of McVeytown; a brother, Floyd S. Bubb of Fairless Hills; three 
sisters: Beverly McWilliams of Haventown, Louise Rusmak of Yandley and Emma 
Romig of McClune. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy, July 6, 
1999. There will be no public viewing. Arrangements by Barr Funeral Home.

Paul I. Alcott
Paul I. Alcott, 75, Box 545, Hollidaysburg RR 2, died Sunday morning, 
September 12, 1999, following a brief illness. He was born June 5, 1924, in 
Altoona, the son of the late Edward and Missouri (Cochron) Alcott. He 
married Elda M. Kephart October 2, 1943, in Annapolis, MD. Mr. Alcott 
retired December 19, 1986, as a foreman from PennDOT. He served  in the US 
Army during World War II. Mr. Alcott enjoyed camping. He was a member of the 
Cresson Post of the American Legion, Portage Lodge of Free & Accepted 
Masons, Scottish Rite-Valley of Altoona, associate member of Fraternal Order 
of Police and a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Duncansville. 
Surviving are two daughters: Wanda M. Bryant of Hollidaysburg and Mary Ann 
Traxler of Port Matilda; a sister, June Moyer of FL; and four grandchildren. 
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Plank, 
Stitt and Stevens Funeral Home, Hollidaysburg.

Mrs. Dorothy L. Troxell, 73, Coalport, died Saturday afternoon, September 
11, 1999, at her residence, following a brief illness. She was born October 
31, 1925, in Lyleville, the daughter of the late Daniel  and  Goldie  
(Hooper) O'Shell. She married Hubert L. (Whitey) Troxell November 14, 1942, 
in Coalport. She had worked as a seamstress at Cleardon Manufacturing Co., 
Coalport, for 12 years. Mrs. Troxell was a 1943 graduate of  Beccaria  
Township  High
School. Surviving are her husband; a daughter, Judith A. Gallaher of 
Coalport; a son, Thomas L. of  Clearfield; a brother, Donald of  Lyleville;  
seven  grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Friends will be

Mrs. Dorothy P. Arthurs, 83, 2410 Seventh Ave., died Sunday morning,

extended illness. She was born June 20, 1916, in Altoona, the daughter of 
the late Vera (Ott) Burk. She married John Arthurs August 18, 1937, in 
Altoona. He died December 19, 1993. Mrs. Arthurs enjoyed going out to dinner 
and watching videos. Surviving are three sons: Richard and John Jr., both of 
Altoona, and Gary of St. Alban, WV; six grandchildren; 11 
great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. Friends will be

Revloc, died Monday, September 13, 1999, at home. She was born January 29, 
1909, in Neu Werder, East Prussia, Germany, the daughter of the late 
Christoph and Marie (Olschewski) Malsatzki. She married Gustav Badorrek 
September 3, 1929, at St. James Lutheran Church, Altoona. He died June 26, 
1981. Mrs. Badorrek was a member of Revloc Presbyterian Church. Surviving 
are a daughter, Edith Trinks, with whom she resided; a sister, Marie Kerstan 
in Poland; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded 
in death by a son, Gunther, who died in 1963. Friends will be received from 
2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Askew-Houser Funeral Homes Inc.,

September 12, 1999, at Altoona Hospital. She was born January 2, 1921, in 
Gallitzin, the daughter of the late Alphonse and Margaret (DeCarlo) 
Sorichetti. She married Francis DeYulius. He died October 13,1992.
Mrs. DeYulius was a member of  St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Gallitzin. She 
was employed by the former Publix Shirt Factory Gallitzin. Surviving are two 
daughters: Maria Vanneman of Gallitzin and Debra Franchetti of Woodbury NJ; 
three sisters: Connie Julian and Christine Conway both of Gallitzin, and 
Lillian Verderame of Altoona; and a brother, Patsy of Gallitzin.

Robert V. Givier
Robert V. Givier, 77, Tyrone RD 3, died Sunday, September 12, 1999, at 
Altoona Hospital.
He was born February 5, 1922, in Tyrone, the son of the late Robert E. and 
Elizabeth (O'Rourke) Givier. He married Marian A. Plummer February 5, 1943, 
in Pittsburgh. Mr. Givier was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic 
Church, where he was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Fraternity. He was 
a 1939 graduate of Tyrone High School. He retired from Edgemate
Division of Westvaco, Tyrone, in April 1986, after 41 years of service. He 
was an Army veteran of World War II, serving as a technical  sergeant  with  
the  860th Bombardment Squadron in the
European, African and Middle Eastern theaters. He was a member of 
Anderson-Denny Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, Tyrone; Howard Gardner 
American Legion Post, Tyrone; Tyrone Benevolent Order of Elks and Secular 
Franciscan Order-USA. Surviving are his wife; two sons:
James K. of Aberdeen, MD, and Robert R. of Tipton; a sister, Peggy Burkey of 
Yeagertown; three brothers: Francis X. of Hollidaysburg,  Gerald  M.  of 
Stafford, VA, and Jack J. of Port
Matilda; two grandchildren; and one step-grandchild. Friends will be

Mrs. Margaret Leora Irons, 88, of 12472 Edinboro Road, Edinboro, formerly of 
Altoona, died Sunday afternoon,  September 12,  1999,  at Edinboro Manor, 
Edinboro. She was born September 2, 1911, in Scalp Level, the daughter of 
the late Frank and Mabel (Holsinger)
Oatman, She was twice married, first to Thomas Shelow in Windber in 1936. He 
died October 4, 1947. She then married Harry Irons in 1955. He died July 15, 
1983. Mrs. Irons was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Altoona. She was 
employed as a nurse's aide by Altoona Hospital for 13
years.   She.  previously   was employed by the Altoona School District for 
nine years. Surviving are a son, Thomas of Edinboro;  a  daughter,  LaRue 
Soyster of Alfred, Maine; four sisters,  Elizabeth  Clabaugh  and Katherine, 
both of St. Petersburg, FL, Doris Martin of Clearwater, FL, and Josephine 
Holoway of St. Louis; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one 
great-great-granddaughter. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. today

Mrs. Vera L. Lewis, 85, Princeton Avenue, New Castle, formerly of Altoona,

was born March 20, 1914, in
Altoona, the daughter of the late George W. and Elsie (Gearhart) Bothwell. 
She married Dean E.
Lewis. He died in 1956. Mrs. Lewis was a member of Highland Presbyterian 
Church, New Castle.
She was a 1935 graduate of Altoona High School. She retired as a cashier and 
a bookkeeper   from   Jameson Hospital. Surviving are a daughter; Sally 
Owrey of New Castle; two sisters,
Phyllis  Smearman  and  June Reichard, both of Altoona; three grandchildren; 
  and  six  great-grandchildren. Arrangements were made by Turner-Myers

Mrs. Gladys I. Shaw, 82, Saxton RD 1, formerly of James Creek RD 1, died

born September 5, 1917, in Gallitzin, the daughter of the late George W. and 
Alice (Shaw) Smith. She married Kessler A. Shaw October 28, 1935, in 
Cumberland, MD. He died June 1, 1988. Mrs. Shaw was a member of Woodcock 
Valley  Bible Church, James Greek. She was also a member of the Marklesburg  
Volunteer  Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. She was employed by the Cove Shoe 
Factory, Martinsburg, for many years. She was also a homemaker. Surviving

Mrs. Alice L. Straw, 68, Irvona RD, died Friday, September 10, 1999, at
her home. She was born March 8, 1931, in DuBois, the daughter of the late 
Clyde and Lila (Craft) Kness. She married Willis C. Straw September 28, 
1957, in Clearfield. He died March 6, 1993.
Mrs. Straw was a homemaker. Surviving are a daughter, Linda L. Spurgers of 
Uvalde, TX; four grandchildren;  and  six  great-grandchildren. Friends will

M. Ruth Massini
Mrs.  M.  Ruth  Massini,  77, Smithmill, died Tuesday morning, September 14, 
1999, at Philipsburg Area Hospital emergency room, following an apparent 
heart attack. She was born January 12, 1922, in Utahville, the daughter of 
the late Franklin J. and Dora M. (Dillon)
Edelblute.  She  married  Basil Massini December 1, 1939, in Winchester, VA. 
Surviving are her husband; a son, Raymond J. of Raton, NM; two daughters: 
Judy A. at home and Sheilah Kawa of Houtzdale; two brothers: James of 
Glasgow and Larry of Altoona; three sisters: Dorothy Wilson     of 
Columbiana, OH,   Donna Gasparri of Akron, OH, and Joyce Diantoniis of 
Altoona; nine
grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Friends will be received from 4 
to 9 p.m. Thursday at McQuown Funeral Home, Glasgow. Interment will be made

Albert P. Krawick
Albert E "Bugs" Krawick, 81, 312 Laurel Ave., Cresson, died Monday, 
September 13, 1999, at Altoona Hospital. He was born January 31, 1918, in 
Lilly, the son of the late Joseph and
Veronica Krawick. He married Pauline C. Burick. Mr. Krawick was a member of 
St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Cresson. He retired from the coal 
industry in 1998, after 66 years of service. Mr. Krawick was an Army veteran 
of World War II, serving from 1942-45 in the Battle of the Bulge and in the 
Normandy invasion. He was a member of the San Pietro Di Romd Italian Mutual 
Society, Cresson, and the Sacred Heart Auto League. Mr. Krawick enjoyed 
hunting, fishing and gardening. Surviving are his wife; two sons: Joseph of 
Duncansville and Steven M. of Loretto; two daughters: Doima J. Taddy of 
Gallitzin and Carol Rodgers of Altoona; a brother, Walter of Philadelphia; 
four sisters: Lucy Muriceak of Cresson, Julie Merva of Portage and Betty 
Hollowicky and Helen Vandervere, both of Philadelphia; two granddaughters; 
and one great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by an infant son, 
Christopher. Friends will be received from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday 
at Charles  M.  Kennedy  Funeral Home, Cresson.
KRAWICK _ Funeral services for Albert E Krawick of 312 Laurel Ave., Cresson,

mausoleum. Military graveside rites will be made by the Gallitzin American 
Legion and other local veteran organizations.  Friends will be received from

where a vigil service will be held in the evening. Albert and his wife, 
Pauline, are both proud sponsors of a child from Quebrada Grande, Honduras. 
He had a great devotion to the Blessed Mother, the Sacred Heart of Jesus and 
the chaplet of the Divine Mercy. He is survived by two sons-in-law: Dave 
Taddy and
Peter Rodgers; two daughters-in-law: Rosanne (Ritchick) and Alexis (Barber); 
  granddaughters:  Lisa and Angela; and a great-granddaughter, Katieri. He 
is preceded in death by five brothers: William, Stanley, Joseph, John and 
Frank; and three sisters: Blanche, Mary and Stella. Mr. Krawick enjoyed 
driving his Ford Mustang.

Grace I. Delozier
Mrs. Grace I. Delozier, 102, Homewood Retirement Center, Martinsburg, 
formerly of Roaring
Spring,  died Monday evening, September 13, 1999, at the home. She was born 
August 14, 1897, in East Freedom RD, the daughter of the late James Abram 
and Mary Ann (Shaw) Dodson. She was twice married, first to Russell Mobley, 
then to Jacob Delozier. Both preceded her in death.
Mrs. Delozier was a member of United Methodist Church, East Freedom. She 
also was a member of Rebekah Lodge and the Murray-Appleman American Legion 
Post Ladies Auxiliary, both of Roaring Spring. She enjoyed playing bingo. 
Surviving are two stepdaughters: Beula Klotz of Roaring Spring and Dorothy 
Sarocco in New Jersey; and grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Delozier was preceded in death by a son, Gerald Mobley; and a stepson, 
Carl Delozier.
Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. today at J. Gary Thompson Funeral 
Home, Roaring Spring.

Robert F. McKee
Robert F. McKee, 65, Box 491, Altoona RD 2, died Tuesday, September 14, 
1999, at Bon Secours-Holy Family Hospital, following an extended illness. He 
was born July 28, 1934, in Carson Valley, the son of the late Theodore and 
Mary (Hill) McKee. He married Peggy Swaney March 18, 1961, in Richmond VA. 
Mr. McKee was a member of Carson Valley Church of the Brethren. He was a 
graduate of Hollidaysburg High School. Mr. McKee retired in 1995 as a self 
employed painter. He was an Air Force veteran, serving as an airman during 
the Korean conflict. Surviving are his wife; two daughters: Selenea M. of 
Altoona and Tabitha L. Mentzer of Juniata; two sons: Robert T. of Juniata 
and Raymond J. of Canan Station; six brothers: Barry and Jim, both of Canan 
Station, Ed of East Freedom, Jerry of Manheim, Jack in OH and Leo in FL; and 
four grandchildren. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Robert E. Sneath
Robert E. Sneath, 83, Bellmeade Manor, formerly of 309 S. First Street, 
Bellwood, died Wednesday morning September 15, 1999, at Altoona Hospital, as 
a result of an automobile accident. He was born November 22, 1915, in Antis 
Twp., the son of the late Austin E. and Mary E. (McCaulley) Sneath. He 
married Anna E. Roub March 23, 1934, in Bellwood. She died February 14, 
1995. Mr. Sneath attended Logan Valley Baptist Church, Bellwood. He retired 
from Conrail as a car repairman. Mr. Sneath enjoyed hunting and fishing. He 
was a member of Logan Valley Grange, Bellwood Chapter. Surviving are a 
daughter, Laura Henry of Thorndale; two sons: Robert L. of LaJose and Jerry 
E. of Altoona RD 4; three sisters: Roselma Hostler of Barberton, OH, Flora 
Dunkleberger of Lancaster and Ethel Wilson of Altoona; a brother, Donald of 
Altoona; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in 
death by an infant son, Elmer Ellsworth Akron, in 1938. Friends will be

John N. Conrad
John N. Conrad, 81, Beltsville, MD, formerly of Altoona, died Tuesday, 
September 14, 1999, following an extended illness. He was born August 15, 
1918, in Altoona, the son of the late Francis and Emma (Langguth) Conrad. He 
married Margaret Sanker July 26, 194. Mr. Conrad was a member of St. 
Nicholas Catholic Church, Laurel, MD. He attended St. Mary's Elementary 
School and attended the St. Fidelis Seminary, Herman. He retired from 
Washington Gas Co. after 35 years of service. Surviving are his wife; six 
sons; five daughters; a brother, J. Leo of Altoona; two sisters: Kathryn 
Pfeffer and Sister Clare Marie, both of Altoona; 23 grandchildren; and three 
great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Vincent. Friends

Dorothy Rosenband Schuman
Mrs. Dorothy Schuman, 86, Palm Greens, Delray Beach, FL, died Monday, 
September 6, 1999, at her home. She was born February 14, 1913, in East 
Harlem, New York City, the daughter of the late Harry and Rose (Schwimmer) 
Rosenband. She married William Gabriel Schuman  December  30,  1934,  in 
Brooklyn, NY. He died in July 1986. Mrs. Schuman was a member of
Anshei Shalom Congregation, Delray Beach. She had worked as an office 
manager at a toy import business she owned  with  her  husband. Previously 
she worked as a model for Firman Kolmer, New York City. Mrs. Schuman enjoyed 
visiting museums, theater and reading. She was an active member of Hadassah 
in Queens, NY, and Delray Beach. She was a member of   the  Brandeis  
University National Women's Committee and Study Group, where she was also 
past president of the Queens Chapter; a member of the local Parent Teacher 
Associations in Brooklyn and Queens; a former member of the United Parent 
Association Delegate; and the Palm Greens Solo Club. Surviving are two sons: 
Howard of London and Rabbi Burt E. of Hollidaysburg; and a sister, Tess 
Karsh of Indianapolis. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. today at

Mary Jane Dillon, 88 HAIDA Manor,  Hastings, formerly of Coalport  RD,  died 
  Monday
evening, September 13, 1999, at the manor. She was born October 1, 1910, in 
Glasgow, the daughter of the late Amos J. and Loda G. (Alexander) Glass. She 
married Raymond G. Dillon. He died May 4, 1979. Surviving  are  three  sons: 
Kenneth G. of Coalport RD, Leonard N. Wick of Sharpsville and Jerry D.of 
Masury, Ohio; a stepson, Gordon C. of Lewistown; three  sisters:  Ellen

She was born Dec. 10, 1923, in Portage, the daughter of the late Joseph and

John H. Dore
John H. Dore, 82, Janesville, died Tuesday afternoon, September 14, 1999, at 
his home. He was born September 20, 1916, in Janesville, the son of the late 
Henry and Vada (Curry) Dore. He
married Ann Yope August 14, 1943. Mr. Dore was a retired coal miner and 
heavy equipment operator. He was a Navy veteran, serving as a gunner's mate 
during World War II. He was a member of the Janesville Veterans of Foreign 
Wars Post. Mr. Dore enjoyed fishing, hunting and riding his all-terrain 
vehicle. Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Lynn Hill of Eldersburg, MD; a

Jean Kotor. She preceded him in death. Mr. Thomas was a member of St. Paul's

Steven Thomas Ergler, 19, 209 Ruskin Drive, died Thursday evening,  
September  16,  1999,  at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown,  
following a vehicle accident. He was born
August 15, 1980, in Altoona, the son of Thomas L. and V. Jeanette (Trostle) 
Ergler. Mr. Ergler was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 
Altoona. He was employed by Burger King, Plank Road. He was a 1998 graduate 
of Bishop Guilfoyle High School, where he had played baseball, and he 
received the Joe Piotti Sr. Award as most valuable player in 1998. He also 
ran cross-country. He was attending Penn State Altoona. Mr. Ergler was a 
member of the Army National Guard. He played Federation baseball for the 
Remax Team, and he also had played soccer. Surviving are his parents; a 
sister, Elizabeth A. at home; a brother, Shawn at home; and a grandmother, 
Eleanor Ergler of Altoona. Friends will be received from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 
p.m. Monday at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., Altoona.

Robert W. Baughman
Robert  W.  Baughman,  75, Shepherd of the Valley Retirement Community 
Poland, Ohio, formerly of Greenbay, Boardman, Ohio, died Friday, September 
17, 1999, at St. Elizabeth Health Center, Youngstown, Ohio. He was born 
September 23, 1923, in Williamsburg, the son of the late
H. Thomas and Anna (Isenberg) Baughman. He married Anna Jean Lamison May 4, 
1945. She died April 11, 1999. Mr. Baughman was a member of Christ Church 
Presbyterian, Youngstown, where he was an elder and trustee. He was employed 
as a metallurgist and then a superintendent of the fishing mm for U.S. Steel 
from 1948-80. He then helped to start McDonald Steel in 1981. After 
retirement, he continued to work as a consultant. He was a 1941 graduate of 
Williamsburg High School and a 1948  graduate  of  Penn  State University 
with a bachelor of science degree in metallurgy. Mr. Baughman was an Army 
veteran during World War II, where he served in the Pacific Front as an 
engineer. He also served during the Korean War. He was a charter member of 
the Veteran of Foreign Wars Boardman Post No. 7587, and a member of the 
Hillman Masonic
Lodge. He participated in the Pro-Care   Cardiac  Rehabilitation Program,

Dennis F. Bender
Dennis F. Bender, 67, Ebensburg, formerly of Carrolltown and Las Vegas died 
Thursday, September 16,1999, at Altoona Hospital. He was born October 21, 
1931, in Carrolltown RD, the son of the late Dennis and Marie (Yeckley) 
Bender. Mr. Bender was the former owner of the Old Gray Mare Pub, 
Carrolltown. He also had raised and sold sweet corn with his brother, Jim, 
for many years. He was an Army veteran, serving during the Korean conflict. 
Surviving  are  four  sisters: Louella Gauntner of Hastings, Elva  Gillette  
of  Ebensburg, Marion Scanlan of Lock Haven and Jane Bearer of Carrolltown; 
a brother, James of Loretto RD; two stepsisters:  Denise  Kirsch  of 
Carrolltown and Betty Leslie of Nicktown; and five stepbrothers: Dwight of 
Patton, Ronald of Cherry Tree and Albert, Eugene and Herbert Good, all in 
Ohio. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and Monday

Thomas McGowan Jr.
Thomas  McGowan  Jr.,  60, Montville,  Ohio,  formerly  of Cleveland and 
Pennsylvania, died
Thursday, September 16, 1999, at Hospice of the Western Reserve, Cleveland. 
He was born April 27, 1939, in Blandburg, the son of the late Thomas and 
Alma McGowan. He married Susan E. Lovell. Mr. McGowan was employed as a 
sales representative for Prudential Insurance Co. and was owner of Forth R. 
of Northeast Ohio. He was a member of the Grand Valley School Board, where 
he had served as president. He was founder and sponsor of the Hartsgrove 
Girls Softball Team and was a member of the East Cleveland Auxiliary 
Policeman. Surviving are his wife; four daughters: Deborah, Joan Szabo, 
Mechele Toomey and Mary Winters; a son, Thomas III; adopted sons: Douglas 
and Roger; a sister, Patricia Wagner; and three brothers: James, Gerald and 
William. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. today at 2 to 4 and 7 to 
9 p.m. Sunday at Ritondar Funeral Home, Chardon, Ohio.

John H. 'Jack' Hansel (photo)
John H. "Jack" Hansel, 79, Evergreen Road, Hollidaysburg, died Thursday 
evening, September 16, 1999,  at Van Zandt VA Medical Center. He was born 
June 23, 1920, in Philadelphia, the
son of the late Henry J. and Lucy (Michener) Hansel. He married Loretta F. 
Hoover July 14, 1942, at Brush Mountain, Hollidaysburg. She died August 
23,1999. Mr. Hansel was a member of
First Presbyterian Church, Hollidaysburg. He retired as Hollidaysburg 
Borough's police chief  in 1975, after 26 years of service. He then retired 
from Shaw Packing Co., Newry, in 1992. He was a 1939 graduate of 
Hollidaysburg   Senior   High School. Mr. Hansel served as a technician 
fourth grade in the Army during World War II as a tank operator. He served 
in regiment 1 headquarter battery 190 field artillery and with the 94th 
Field Artillery Battalion. He also served with the 48th Headquarters 4th 
Armored Division, where he was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in 
action February 27, 1945, during the Battle of the Bulge in Germany. He 
served in the following  battles  and  campaigns: Arbennes,   Central   
Europe, Normandy, Northern France and Rhineland. He was a lifetime member of 
the Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association and a life member of the   
Duncansville   Memorial Veteran of Foreign Wars Post. He enjoyed golf, 
baseball and target shooting. Surviving  are  a  daughter, Claudia F. Shaw 
of  Newry; a sister, Grace E. Leiand of Duncansville; a grandson; and two 
great-grandchildren. There will be no public viewing. Arrangements by Sorge 
Funeral Home, Hollidaysburg.

Miss A. Pearl Cowher,  103, Epworth Manor, Tyrone, formerly of 401 W. 16th 
St., Tyrone, died
Thursday evening, September 16,1999, at the manor. She was born March 2, 
1896, in Blandburg,  the  daughter  of Samuel Russell and Margaret Anna 
(Williams) Cowher. Miss Cowher was a member of Tyrone Christ United 
Methodist Church. She was organist for First English Lutheran Church, 
Tyrone, for 40 years. She substituted for many years at First Presbyterian, 
Wesley Methodist and Church United Methodist churches, Tyrone. She was a 
1914 graduate of Tyrone High School .and a graduate of  Altoona Zeth 
Business School. She had worked as a private secretary for Mr. G. Maier in 
the Pennsylvania  Railroad  office, Tyrone, for five years, and then
taught piano and organ for 75 years. She was a member of the Sinking Valley 
Grange No. 484 and was pianist for the Tyrone Kiwanis Club for 38 years. She 
enjoyed hunting, fishing and
baking. Surviving are a niece, Hilda P. Lewis of Bellwood; three 
grandnephews; and several great-grandnephews. Friends will be received from 
2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Derman Funeral Home Inc., Tyrone.

Lewis of Tyrone and Melvin Cowher Jr. of Sturbridge,
MA. She was preceded in death by three brothers: Harry Foster Cowher, Coral 
Bloom Cowher and James Wilbur Cowher. Miss Cowher was a dedicated church 
organist and piano teacher, having played the organ at nearly every church 
in the area. Throughout her music career she was prized as "The Accompanist" 
for many area soloists, the Westvaco Paper Mill Chorus, the Tyrone Choral 
Society, the old minstrel shows and community Christmas programs at the YMCA 
auditorium. She was a resident of Tyrone for the past 100 years, and she 
loved the outdoors.

Pauline Sara Jane Hauser
Mrs. Pauline Sara Jane Hauser, 69, 404 E. Crawford Ave., died Thursday 
September 16,1999, at Altoona Hospital. She was born January 16, 1930 in 
Altoona, the daughter of the late Theodore and Mary (Salyards) McMaster. She 
married Donald Hauser. He died in 1977. Mrs. Hauser was a member of St. Rose 
of Lima .Catholic Church. She was a homemaker and she enjoyed crafts. 
Surviving are two daughters: Renee Hughes of Duncansville and Michele Wolf 
of Altoona; two sons: Donald and Richard, both of Altoona; a sister, Mary 
Hope of Baltimore; three brothers: John and Thomas, both of Altoona, and 
Raymond of Hollidaysburg; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren. She was 
preceded in death by a son, James, who died August 13, 1989.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Santella 
Funeral Home.

Mrs. Mary E. "Betty" Manning, 72, Valley View Home, formerly of 1426 First 
Ave., died Thursday evening, September 16, 1999, at the home, following an 
extended illness. She was born September 14, 1927, in Pittsburgh.  She 
married John Joseph Manning May 31, 1970. He died September 7,1970. Mrs. 
Manning was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where she was an 
active volunteer for bingo. She was owner and operator of Betty's Corner 
Store, 17th Street, and previously had worked for A & P for many years. She 
enjoyed fishing, boating and reading.

James H. Miller
James H. Miller, 83, 4100 Beale Ave., died Thursday, September 16,1999, at 
the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, following an extended illness. 
He was born March 5, 1916, in
Altoona, the son of the late Isaac and Mary Ellen (Corle) Miller. He married 
Mary Alice Youtzy July 26,1940, in Winchester, VA. Mr. Miller was a member 
of Schum   Memorial   United
Methodist Church, Altoona. He retired as a boilermaker from the Pennsylvania 
Railroad in 1976.
He attended Mapleton Depot Area Schools. He was an avid hunter and 
fisherman. He was a member and vice president of the Dry Hollow Hunting 
Camp, Warriors Mark. Surviving are his wife; two daughters: Ellen L.  Hynes 
of Shippensburg and Charlotte H. Poindexter of Richmond, VA; a son, James of 
Coupon; a sister, Bertha Coder of Mapleton Depot; and six grandchildren.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Scaglione 
Funeral Home.

Henry P. Manganella
Henry  P.  Manganella,  95, Altoona, formerly of Kingston, died Thursday, 
September 16, 1999, at Bon Secours-Holy Family Hospital. He was born April 
1, 1904, in Wilkes-Barre, the son of the late Carmine and Carmella (Paluse) 
Manganella. He married Elizabeth May Sawyer. She died in 1976. Mr. 
Manganella attended of First Baptist Church of Altoona. He retired as a 
plumber after 50 years of service working for various local plumbing 
contractors and was a lifetime member of the plumber's  Union  Local  524, 
Scranton. Surviving  are  three  sons: Richard J. of Kingston, Robert P. of 
Altoona and Ronald J. of Las Vegas; a brother, George of Wilkes-Barre; nine 
grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. There will be no public viewing.

Mrs. Ophelia L. "Fee" Barr, 97, 508 N. Beech St., Ebensburg, died Friday, 
September 17, 1999,   at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown. She 
was born August 26, 1902, in Ebensburg, the daughter of the late Edward J. 
and Annie (Mills) Luther. She married Melvin Barr
Sr. He preceded her in death. Mrs. Barr retired as a school teacher with the 
Central Cambria
School District, with 30 years of service at Revloc and eight years at 
Colver. She was a graduate of the former Indiana Normal School and attended 
the University of Pittsburgh. Mrs. Barr was a member of Ebensburg Senior 
Citizens, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post Auxiliary,  Ebensburg,  and  the 
Ebensburg  Business  and Professional Women's Club. Surviving are a son, 
Melvin Jr. of

Family Hospital, following a brief illness. She was born February 16, 1913, 
in Blue Knob, the daughter of the late John and Catherine (Langham) Ickes. 
She married Warren Stiffler in 1935 at Smith Corner Mennonite
Church, East Freedom. Mrs. Stiffler was a member of Smith Corner Mennonite 
Church.
She enjoyed poems, cooking and singing at church. Surviving are her husband 
of Valley View Home; and a grandson. She was preceded in death by a son,

married B. Frank Hunter. He died in 1960. Mrs. Hunter retired as manager of 
the Hosiery Department of Kaufmann's in Pittsburgh in 1960, after 35 years 
of service. She enjoyed reading. Surviving are a son, Robert C. Hoopes of 
Hollidaysburg; four grandchildren;  and  six  great-grandchildren. There

Mrs. Rose M. Jaronieski, 85, 2916 15th St., died Sunday morning, September 
19, 1999, at Bon Secours-Holy Family Hospital. She was born December 13, 
1913, in Jamestown, the daughter of the late Joseph and Rose (Kolasa) 
Kowalczyk. She married Frank E. Jaronieski February 8, 1948, at Sacred Heart 
Church, Portage. He died November 3, 1964. Mrs. Jaronieski was a member of 
Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, formerly Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic 
Church. She had been employed at the Pennsylvania Shoe Co. and then as a 
cook for St. Mark's Catholic Rectory. Mrs. Jaronieski enjoyed cooking, 
reading and gardening. She was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Rosary 
Society, St. Hedwig Society, Polish National Alliance, Polish Women's 
Association of America and the Columbian Circle. Surviving are a daughter, 
Barbara McKenna of Altoona; a son, Francis W. with whom she resided; a 
sister, Helen Burda of Portage; a brother, Walter of Portage; and three 
grandchildren. A son Richard J., died July 18, 1973. Friends will be

daughter of the late Joseph and Felicitaas (Ganghamer) Westenkirchner. She 
married Joseph Kaltenbrunner May 15, 1937, in Altoona. He died May 8, 1987. 
Mrs. Kaltenbrunner was a member of St. Mark's Catholic Church. She was a 
member of the Unter Uns Ladies Auxiliary and the Bavarian Aid Society Ladies 
Auxiliary. Surviving are two sons: Joseph and John, both of Altoona; two 
grandchildren; and one great-grandson. There will be no visitation.

KALTENBRUNNER- Services for Mary Kaltenbrunner of 216 E. First Avenue, will 
be held at the convenience of the family at Stevens Memorial Chapel, by

Violet B. Mountain
Mrs. Violet B. Mountain, 87, 900 N. Fourth St., Bellwood, died Saturday 
morning, September 18, 1999, at  Bon  Secours-Holy  Family Hospital, 
following an extended illness. She was born June 30, 1912, in Rusk, IN, the 
daughter of the late George and Pearl (Hawkins) Jones. She married Donald C. 
Mountain in July 1944 at Camp Atterbury, IN. He died June 15, 1969. Mrs. 
Mountain was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Bellwood. She was a 
homemaker. Mrs. Mountain was a 1931 graduate  of  Rusk  High  School, 
Indiana. She enjoyed making flower
arrangements. Mrs. Mountain was a member of the Missionary Society at Grace 
Lutheran Church; the Order of Eastern Star, Jasper, Ind. chapter; and a past 
den mother of Cub Scout Den No. 7, Bellwood. Surviving are three sons: Dr. 
Gerald R. Yarnell of Mooreville, IN, Donald C. Mountain Jr. of Orlando, FL, 
and Kenneth L. Mountain,  with  whom  she resided; eight grandchildren; and 
five great-grandchildren. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 
p.m. today at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Bellwood.
MOUNTAIN _ The funeral of Violet B. Mountain of 900 N. Fourth St., Bellwood,

Carl   Alexy   officiating. Interment will be made at Blair Memorial Park,

Paul J. Short
Paul J. Short, 69, 520 Beech Ave., Patton, died September 18, 1999 at 
Altoona Hospital. He was born October 6, 1929, in Johnstown, the son of the 
late Benjamin and Ruth (Williams) Short.  He  married  Catherine Strasser 
April 15,1962. Mr. Short was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 
Patton. He  retired  in  1975  as owner/operator of All Service Co. He 
served as mayor of Patton for six years, from 1992-98, a member of Patton 
Borough Council for 12 years, from 1975-92, and as a member/secretary  of  
the  Patton Municipal Authority Mr. Short was a graduate of Penn State 
University and was a member of the Penn State Alumni Association. He was a 
Navy veteran of the Korean conflict. Mr. Short was a life member of Patton 
Fire Company; a member of the Cambria County Drug and Alcohol Task Force; 
the Cambria. County Solid Waste Authority; and a  life  member  of  John  
White Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, Patton, where he served as post 
adjutant. Surviving are his wife; a son, Joe of Patton; four stepsons: Ted, 
Jim, Dave and Bert Lallemand; two stepdaughters: Irene Beunier and Cathy 
Rietscha; a sister, Margaret A. Crisman of Stone Harbor, NJ; a brother, 
Edwin of Patton; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Mary C. Friends will be 
received from 2
to 4 and 7 to 9' p.m. Tuesday at Stevens  Funeral  Homes  Inc., Patton. 
Committal will be made in
Patton.
