BLACK, Catharine Fullmer, 1914

Deaths of Children.
  Catharine Fullmer Black, daughter of Charles C. and Nellie Fullmer Black, died 
at the home of her parents, 1221 Eighth avenue at 10:15 o'clock last evening of 
heart failure.  She was born in Altoona May 5, 1907, and had just started to 
attend the Emerson school in September.  She was also a member of the primary 
department of the Eighth Avenue Methodist Sunday school.  Besides her parents, a 
sister, aged 3, survives.  Funeral services will be held at the house at 2:15 
p.m. Monday.  Interment will be made in Fairview cemetery.

CARLES, H. Frank, 1936 (?)

H. FRANK CARLES EXPIRES AT HOME
  H. Frank Carles, aged 51, of 200 Wopsonononock avenue, for almost a quarter of 
a century a rural route deliveryman working out of the Altoona post office, died 
at his home at 12:15 o'clock this morning.  He was taken ill Monday of this week 
when he collapsed while on his route at the lower end of Greenwood.
  Mr. Carles entered the post office service July 15, 1912, and is said to have 
been the first rural carrier to be employed at the local office.  His first 
territory embraced rural route No. 1 which includes Juniata Gap but more 
recently, on July 1, 1924, he was assigned to rural route, No. 3, which takes in 
the Greenwood section.
  Within the last two years Mr. Carles figured in two automobile accidents while 
in the performance of duty and on both occasions was painfully hurt, spending 
some time in hospitals.  He was first injured in March of 1934 when he suffered 
a compound fracture of the left lower leg and was confined to the Altoona 
hospital for a considerable length of time.
  In July of 1935, Carles was injured again when his machine was struck by 
another car on the East Side of this city, this accident occurring upon the 
first day that he had started to work after recuperating from his accident of 
the previous year.  He was not so badly hurt this time but prior to this, in 
addition to spending time in the local hospital, he had been a patient for a 
while in a government hospital at Staten Island, N.Y.
  Harry Frank Carles was born April 27, 1884, in this city, a son of David and 
Marie (Isenberg) Carles and he is survived by his wife, Mrs. Estella 
(McLaughlin) Carles, and the following children:  Mrs. Thomas Kiser, Jr., of 
Altoona, Mrs. Edward Gutshall, Jr., of Huntingdon, Mrs. Roy Shall of this city, 
Isabel, Harriet, Virginia, Fern, Marilynd and Eugene Carles, all at home.
  Two brothers and a sister also survive, Chester B. Carles and Ralph D. Carles 
and Miss Rella Carles, all of this city.  There are seven grandchildren.  The 
deceased was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America, camp, No. 8005.  The 
funeral is to be held at the home on Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock in charge of 
Rev. Dunkelberger.  Interment will follow in Grandview cemetery.

ALEXANDER B. McLEOD
  Died at his home, 1219 Seventeenth avenue, this morning at 1:30 o'clock of a 
complication of diseases, following an illness of one month's duration.  He was 
born in Scotland and came to the United States when but 3 years of age.  He 
resided in Gloucester, Mass., for many years and twelve years ago came to this 
city and took up his residence here, after securing employment in the local 
shops.  He was employed in the Twelfth street tool rooms, as a machinist.  He 
was united in marriage to Miss Martha Waite of this city, twenty years ago, who 
survives.

OAKES, Atlee L. "Acorn," 1981

ATLEE L. (ACORN) OAKES
  52, of Box 145, Lower Reese, Hollidaysburg RD 3, died at 1:17 p.m. Monday, 
Jan. 26, 1981, in Mercy Hospital, following an extended illness.  Known as 
Acorn, Mr. Oakes retired as a heavy equipment operator from New Enterprise Stone 
& Line Co. in June 1980, after 15 years' service.  He was born Feb. 5, 1928, in 
Loysburg, the son of Homer R. and Mabel I. (Smith) Oakes, and June 28, 1954, in 
Winchester, Va., married Doris L. Zimmerman.  Surviving are his wife, his mother 
at home and four brothers, Gerald of Casa Grande, Ariz.; Ronald and Kenneth of 
Martinsburg and Donald of Roaring Spring.  Mr. Oakes was an honorary member of 
the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Union of Johnstown.  Friends will be 
received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the Plank & Stitt Funeral 
Home, Hollidaysburg.
OAKES - Services for Atlee L. (Acorn) Oakes of Box 145, Lower Reese, 
Hollidaysburg RD 3, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the Plank & Stitt 
Funeral Home Inc., Hollidaysburg, by the Rev. Charles Fitzgerald.  Interment in 
Presbyterian Cemetery, Williamsburg.  Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 
to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may 
be made to either the American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice.

OBERLE, Frank M., 1972

FRANK M. OBERLE
  Of Claysburg RD, died at 12:30 p.m. yesterday, March 21, 1972, in Altoona 
Hospital, where he was admitted earlier in the day, after a short illness.  He 
was born April 2, 1905, in Millvale, a son of George and Anna (Spitzner) Oberle, 
and married Josephine Walter of Claysburg RD.  Surviving are his wife, three 
sons, Eugene of Claysburg RD, David of Bedford RD and Timothy E. of Mahwah, 
N.J.; four grandchildren and two brothers, Lewis and Henry J. of Pittsburgh.  
Mr. Oberle retired Sept. 30, 1968, from the Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics, 
where he was an instructor, after 30 years' service.  Friends will be received 
in the Leslie Funeral Home, Claysburg, from noon to 9 p.m. tomorrow and after 10 
a.m. Friday.

RHODA MAE OBERNEDER
  Of 109 S. 16th St., died at 5:15 a.m. today, Feb. 8, 1974, at her home.  She 
was born April 10, 1917, in Portage, a daughter of John and Margaret (Thompson) 
Jackson, and married Alois J. Oberneder on Nov. 24, 1943, in St. Mary's Catholic 
Church.  Surviving are her husband, three children, Carol, Mary and James, at 
home, and six brothers and sisters, Mrs. Margaret Lunglhofer, Robert and William 
of Altoona, Mrs. Mayme Nolan of Philadelphia, Edward of Linden, N.J., and Mrs. 
Lois Bender of Sacramento, Calif.  Mrs. Oberneder was a member of St. Mary's 
Catholic Church.  Friends will be received in Stevens Mortuary from 7 to 9 p.m. 
tomorrow and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday.

FRANCES IRENE O'BRIEN
  Of Richmond RD 1, Ohio, mother of the Rev. Paul O'Brien, pastor of Trinity 
United Methodist Church, Bellwood, died at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, 1973, in 
Ohio Valley Hospital, Steubenville, Ohio, after a lengthy illness.  She was born 
Feb. 29, 1892.  Surviving are seven children, 17 grandchildren, 18 great-
grandchildren, and a sister.  Friends are being received in the Clarke Funeral 
Home, Richmond.

O'BRIEN, Nellie, 1972

NELLIE O'BRIEN
  Of Denver, Colo., formerly of Altoona, died yesterday, Jan. 23, 1972, in 
Denver.  She was the daughter of Thomas G. and Anna E. (Shaffner) Herbert, and 
was married to Charles J. O'Brien, who died March 21, 1958.  Surviving are three 
children, Thomas H. of Rockville, Md., and Charles J. Jr. and Mrs. Connie Hart 
of Denver, and several grandchildren.  Mrs. O'Brien was a 1916 graduate of the 
Altoona Hospital School of Nursing.  Friends will be received in the Stevens 
Mortuary from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.
O'BRIEN - The funeral of Mrs. Nellie O'Brien of Denver, Colo., will be held with 
a white mass at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament.  
Interment in Calvary Cemetery.  Friends will be received in Stevens Mortuary, 
1421 8th Ave., from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.

  Of 812 Convent St., Gallitzin, died at 3:40 a.m. yesterday, Sept. 1, 1971.  He 
was born Feb. 2, 1901, in Workington, England, a son of Hugh P. and Mary Agnes 
(O'Hara) O'Connor.  Surviving is a sister, Mrs. Marie Quinn of Gallitzin.

JOHN T. O'DONNELL
  Of 18 Granada Way, died at 6:02 a.m. yesterday, May 10, 1973, in Altoona 
Hospital, where he was admitted May 1, after a lengthy illness.  He was born at 
Turtle Creek on March 6, 1904, a son of John T. and Mary E. (McGuire) O'Donnell, 
and married Kathryn Shruff on April 28, 1927, in Altoona.  Surviving are his 
wife, three sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Mathew of Bellwood, Mrs. Ann Moore of 
Duncansville and Mrs. Callista Risconsin of Altoona and a niece.  Mr. O'Donnell 
was a member of St. Therese's Catholic Church.  He retired in 1966, having been 
self-employed.  Friends will be received in the Krish Funeral Home from 7 to 9 
p.m. tomorrow and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday.

  Of Harrisburg, formerly of New Paris RD 1, died yesterday, Nov. 17, 1970, in 
Harrisburg Hospital.  She was born at Bedford Jan. 26, 1904, a daughter of 
George S. and Rebecca (Wilkinson) Burkett, and married Norman Oldham, who died 
June 20.  Surviving are 10 daughters, Betty of Harrisburg, Mrs. Mary Appleby of 
Neelyton, Mrs. Virginia Appleby, Mrs. Dorothy Bert and Anna Mae of Newburg RD, 
Mrs. Ruth Bert of Mercersburg, Mrs. Esther Musser and Mrs. Grace Brantner of 
Lurgan, Mrs. Catherine Smith of Denver, Colo., and Mrs. Elizabeth Stoner of East 
Berlin RD; 18 grandchildren and five brothers and sisters, David of Waterside, 
Watson of Saxton, James of Rancho Cordovo, Calif., Mrs. Mary Hall of Johnstown 
and Mrs. Vera Appleby of Neelyton.  Mrs. Oldham was a member of the Spring Hope 
Brethren in Christ Church.  Friends will be received in the Blackburn Funeral

JOHN K. O'NEIL
  81, of Green Avenue Tower, died unexpectedly at 4 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 28, 1980, 
in Altoona Hospital.  Mr. O'Neil retired as an engineer from the Pennsylvania 
Railroad after 45 years' service.  He was born March 13, 1899, in Ore Hill, the 
son of Andrew and Nora O'Neil, and married Esther Cartwright, who died April 16, 
1970.  Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Carrie Houtz of State College and a niece 
and nephew.  Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 10 a.m. until 1 
p.m. Tuesday in the Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Juniata.
O'NEIL - Services for John K. O'Neil of Green Avenue Tower will be held at 1 
p.m. Tuesday in the Mauk & Yates Funeral Home Inc., Juniata, by the Rev. Charles

CHARLES F. ORNDORFF
  Of 1413 22nd Ave., died unexpectedly at 10:50 a.m. yesterday, March 4, 1972, 
at his home.  He was born Feb. 12, 1899, in Motters, Md., a son of Francis H. 
and Cora (Welty), and married Margaret C. Hite on Jan. 17, 1959, in St. Mark's 
Catholic Church.  Surviving are his wife, five brothers and sisters, Mrs. Alice 
McGlaughlin, and Maurice of Emmitsburg, Md., John of Motters, Mrs. Bernadette 
Kaas of Thurmont, Md., and Mrs. Viola Hemler of Donneauville, Mr. Orndorff 
retired from the PRR July 1, 1964 , after 46 years' service as a mechanic.  He 
was a member of the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament and Knights of St. 
George, Branch 103,  St. Mark's.  Friends will be received in the Jones Funeral 
Home from 7 to 9 p.m. today, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow.

  Of 103 E. 12th St., Tyrone, died early today, after a brief illness, in Polk 
State School.  He was born in Philipsburg July 10, 1942, a son of Francis P. and 
Margaret (Carling) O'Rourke.  Surviving are the parents, and a sister and 
brother, Mrs. Mary Ann Woods of Elkins, W.Va., and Francis of Cleveland.  Mrs. 
O'Rourke was a member of St. Matthew's Catholic Church, Tyrone.  Friends will be 
received in the Getz & Searer Funeral Home, Tyrone, after 7 p.m. tomorrow.

ORWICK, H. Roscoe, 1970

H. ROSCOE ORWICK
  Of Allport, Clearfield County, died at 8:30 a.m. yesterday, Aug. 31, 1970, in 
Lee Hospital, Johnstown, after a brief illness.  He was born Sept. 25, 1918, at 
Hannah Furnace, the son of Edward L. and Erma J. (Blowers) Orwick, and married 
Frances McClellan.  Surviving are his wife, four children, Mrs. Mary Jane 
Jackson of Altoona and Edward, John and Alfred at home; four grandsons and 2 
sisters, Mrs. Alfred Davis of Morrisdale RD.  Mr. Orwick was a self-employed 
trucker and farmer and contract carrier for Sealtest Dairies since 1948.  He was 
a member of the Allport United Methodist Church, Tyrone Horsemen's Association 
and Fort Fetter Riding Club.  Friends will be received in the Weaver Funeral 
Home, Morrisdale, from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow.

OSCHE, Leo W., 1973

LEO W. OSCHE
  Of 206 Bell Ave., died at 1:45 p.m. yesterday, June 14, 1973, at Altoona 
Hospital, where he was admitted June 7, after an extended illness.  Mr. Osche 
retired in 1960 as a PRR carbuilder, with 44 years' service.  He was born Dec. 
2, 1895, in Altoona, a son of Martin and Mary (Danner) Osche, and married Rachel 
Mulhollen.  Surviving are his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Bertha E. Springer of 
Washington, D.C.; five grandchildren, a great-grandson and a sister, Mrs. 
Gertrude C. Muri of Altoona.  Mr. Osche was a member of St. Mark's Catholic 
Church.  He was a veteran of World War I.  He will repose in the Barton-Stevens 
Funeral Home from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

VIDA P. O'SHELL
  Of 1102 Francis Ave., Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, formerly of Coalport died 
yesterday, July 24, 1974, at Akron, Ohio, City Hospital.  She was born June 24, 
1896, in Erccaria Twp., a daughter of Stewart and Susanne (Robeson) Matthem, and 
married George E. O'Shell, who died in 1965.  Surviving are four children, Ben 
R. of Baltimore, Md., Fred and Mrs. Wanda Quick of North Hampton, Ohio, and 
Homer of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, W. T. of Columbus, Ohio, and Mrs. Margaret 
McMasters of Warren, Pa.  Mrs. O'Shell was a member of the Coalport Lodge, Women 
of the Moose, and Auxiliary to Volunteer Firemen's Association of Cambria County 
and vicinity.  Friends will be received in the Troxell Funeral Home, Glasgow, 
from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow.

FREDA C. OSTER
  Of 1423 Pitt Road, Greenwood, died at 9:45 a.m. yesterday, Sept. 15, 1972, at 
Hillview Nursing Home, after a lengthy illness.  She was born Nov. 24, 1899, in 
Centre County, a daughter of Charles and Elsie (Houseman) Lytle, and married 
Alvin F. Oster in Cumberland, Md., on Feb. 18, 1918.  Surviving are her husband, 
two sisters and a brother, Mrs. Luella Mock and Harry of Greenwood and Mrs. 
Dessie Bebbington of Sarasota, Fla.  Mrs. Oster was a member of the Greenwood 
United Methodist Church and Wide Awake Sunday School Class, member and president 
of Bellwood VFW Auxiliary and a member of Ladies Auxiliary, Fort Fetter Post, 
American Legion.  Friends will be received in the Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, 
Juniata, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow and after 10 a.m. 
Monday.

  Of 2528 Beale Ave., was dead on arrival at 3:40 p.m. yesterday, June 5, 1973, 
at Altoona Hospital, Mr. Oswald retired March 3, 1972, from the J. G. Packing 
Co., Bellwood.  He was born June 20, 1905, in Altoona, a son of John I. and Mary 
(Sidler) Oswald, and married Rebecca Geisler on July 17, 1929.  Surviving are 
his wife, two children, Raymond of Baltimore, Md., and Mrs. Marie Nagle of 
Altoona; 11 grandchildren and a brother and sister, Mrs. Emma Grannas and Andrew 
of Altoona.  Mr. Oswald was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 
Holy Name Society and Knights of St. George.  Friends will be received in 
Stevens Mortuary from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow.

ALBERT S. OWEN
  Of 419 Longfellow Ave. and St. Petersburg, Fla., died in Altoona VA Hospital 
at 7:20 a.m. today, Feb. 24, 1972, after a brief illness.  He was born Oct. 9, 
1888, at Duncannon, a son of James T. and Emma (Spence) Owen, and was married to 
Hazel Briggs Kitting.  Surviving are his wife and one grandson.  Mr. Owen was 
employed by Penn Power & Light Co., for 30 years.  He was a veteran of World War 
I.  He was a member of Cannon Lodge, F&AM, Seaville, N.J., for more than 60 
years, and a member of Sky Crest High Twelve Club of Clearwater, Fla., VFW of 
Harrisburg and Disabled American Veterans of P___las County, Fla.  Friends will 
be received in the Myers Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow.

  Of Coalport, formerly of Colver and Beaver Valley, died at 10 a.m. yesterday 
in the Altoona Hospital, where she was admitted earlier in the day.  She was 
born July 22, 1881, in Flinton, a daughter of Courtes and Emma (Troxell) 
Flemming, and married William H. Oshall, who died in 1961. Surviving are five 
children, Courtes of Coalport Rd, Ammon of Flinton, Floyd of Coalport, Mrs. 
Hulda Spangler of Howard and Mrs. Wilda Gates of Colver; 25 grandchildren, 
several great-grandchildren, four sisters and a brother, Mrs. Alice Glasgow and 
Mrs. Sue Delozier of Glasgow, Mrs. Enid Kutruff, Mrs. Lena Harpster and Doss of 
Flinton RD.  Friends will be received in the Troxell Funeral Home, Glasgow, 
after 7 p.m. today.

MRS. ANNIE SMITH
  Of 921 Sixteenth street, died at her home yesterday evening at 6 o'clock of 
uremia.  She was born in Huntingdon county, July 22, 1845, and was aged 68 
years, 5 months and 11 days.  She was a member of the Washington Burial 
association.  Surviving are one son, C. A. Smith of 1304 Eighth avenue and one 
grandson, Jacob Cyne Smith.  Funeral services will be held from the home of the 
son, 1304 Eighth avenue.  The funeral will be held on Monday afternoon, services 
to be held at the late residence, 1304 Eighth avenue, at 2 o'clock.  Interment 
will be made in Rose Hill cemetery.

WOMER, Margaret, 1914

MRS. MARGARET WOMER
  Died at the home of her son, R. H. B. Womer, 1923 Fourth avenue, at 12:30 
o'clock this morning, of cirrhosis of the liver.  She had been a resident of the 
city for the past two years and previous to that time had resided in Bellwood.  
For the past eight weeks Mrs. Womer had been quite ill.  She was born at Bald 
Eagle Furnace, March 15, 1835, and was married about sixty-three years ago to 
William Womer, now deceased, a prominent superintendent of furnaces during the 
past half century.  She was a faithful member of the Simpson Methodist church.  
Three sons and four daughters survive:  W. T. Womer of Burnham, Mrs. Harry 
Singleton of Lewistown, J. W. Womer of Munhall, Mrs. C. F. _ias of Chicago, 
Misses Nel and Laura of this city, and R. H. B., at whose residence she died.  
Three sisters one of whom is Mrs. Ellen Womer of Dudley, Bedford county, and one 
brother survive also.  Three children preceded her to the grave, Mrs. E. M. 
McLean, F. M. and H. F. Womer.  The funeral will be held on Monday afternoon at 
3 o'clock with services at the house in charge of Rev. Vaughn T. Rue, pastor of 
the Simpson Methodist church.  Interment will be made in Fairview cemetery.
