BRYAN, Sarah O. (HARTSOCK), 1970

SARAH O. BRYAN
  Of Box 922, Avalon Road, died at 6:55 p.m. yesterday, March 20, 1970, in 
Altoona Hospital, where she was admitted March 8, after an extended illness.  
She was born in Fayette County, June 10, 1902, a daughter of Charles and Mary 
(Shock) Hartsock, and married Sylvester Bryan in Cumberland, Md., May 5, 1922.  
Surviving are her husband, four children, Leroy, Donald, Mrs. Irene Boring and 
Robert E. of Altoona; eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a 
stepbrother and stepsister, Ward Foster of Friedens and Mrs. C. R. Pifer of 
Springfield, Ore.  Mrs. Bryan was a member of the First United Church of Christ.  
Friends will be received in the Stevens Mortuary from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 
4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow.

OAKES, Irene M., 1977

IRENE M. OAKES
  Formerly of 440 Locust St., Roaring Spring, died at noon yesterday, April 14, 
1977, at Valley View Home.  She was born Oct. 5, 1892, at Martinsburg RD 2, a 
daughter of J. Newton and Jennie (Quarry) Hoover, and married Joseph A. Oakes, 
who died Aug. 9, 1974.  Surviving are four children, Mrs. Martha J. Closson of 
Cleveland, Ohio, and Mrs. Esther Replogle, Robert and Joseph Jr. of Roaring 
Spring, seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and a brother and three 
sisters, Mrs. Mary Ebersole of Martinsburg, Mrs. Carrie Rhodes of Homewood 
Retirement Center, Martinsburg.  Mrs. Martha Connor of Canton, Ohio, and John of 
Martinsburg RD 2, Mrs. Oakes was a member of Bare Memorial Church of God, 
Roaring Spring.  Friends will be received in the John L. Thompson funeral Home, 
Roaring Spring, from 2 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday.

OAKES, Stanley R., 1976

STANLEY R. OAKES
  Of Hopewell RD1, died at 7:30 a.m. yesterday, Nov. 15, 1976, at Nason 
Hospital, Roaring Spring, after an extended illness.  Mr. Oakes was a retired 
custodian for the Northern Bedford County School.  He was born Oct. 9, 1906, in 
Hopewell Twp., a son of Hezekiah and Mary (Ritchey) Oakes, and married Charlotte 
B. Kagarise on Oct. 20, 1932, in Chambersburg.  Surviving are his wife, three 
children, Mrs. Patricia Allen of Opal, Va., S. Fred of Kansas City, Mo., and 
Wayne of Hopewell RD 1; 16 grandchildren, and three sisters, Mrs. Eva Steele of 
Bedford, Mrs. Jessie Warsing of Fairfax, Va., and Mrs. Christine Hann of 
Everett.  Mr. Oakes was a member of the Bedford Forge United Methodist Church.  
Friends will be received in the S. Gerald Weaver Funeral Home, Woodbury, from 7 
to 9 p.m. today.

OBERLANDER, Kathryn P., 1978

KATHRYN P. OBERLANDER
  Of Robeson Extension, Williamsburg RD 1, died at 4:15 a.m. today, Feb. 25, 
1978, in Lee Hospital, Johnstown, following an extended illness.  She was born 
Aug. 5, 1902, in Hopewell, Bedford county, a daughter of William and Carrie 
(Moore) Fink, and Aug. 4, 1921, in Cumberland, Md., married Towner W. 
Oberlander, who died Oct. 31, 1972.  Surviving are four children, Mrs. Betty 
Clabaugh of Seward, Mrs. Kathryn Evans of Indiana, William W. of Williamsburg RD 
1 and Mrs. Ruth Lloyd of Johnstown, five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren 
and three sisters, Mrs. Maude Wagner of
Everett, Mrs. Geraldine Withers and Mrs. Lide Huff of Tyrone.  Friends will be 
received in the James K. Friedline Funeral Home, Williamsburg, from 2 to 4 and 7 
to 9 p.m. Sunday.

JAMES O'CONNELL
  Of Willowbrook Mobile Home Village, Lot 601, Duncansville RD 3, died 
unexpectedly at 5 p.m. yesterday, Feb. 9, 1977, at his home.  Mr. O'Connell was 
employed as an accountant by NL Industries, Altoona.  He was born July 24, 1919, 
in Cincinnati Ohio, a son of Thomas A. and Marie (Kolwcs) O'Connell, and married 
Ruth G. Richards on May 29, 1941, in Cincinnati.  Surviving are his wife, five 
children, Mrs. Patricia Turner, Daniel L., and Mrs. Beverly Lewis of Cincinnati, 
and Thomas M. and J. Scott, at home, and two grandchildren, Mr. O'Connell was an 
Army veteran of World War II, having served as aircraft inspector.  He was a 
member of the Hollidaysburg Christian & Missionary Alliance Church, a teacher of 
the Middle Adult Sunday School Class, chairman of the executive committee of the 
church, assistant Sunday School superintendent, general treasurer and member of 
the church choir.  He was president of the PTA of Allegheny II Elementary 
School, Foot of Ten.  Friends will be received in the Plank & Stitt Funeral 
Home, Hollidaysburg, from 2 to 5:30 p.m. tomorrow and in the Witt Good & Kelsch 
Funeral Home, Cincinnati, from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday.

JOHN D. O'DONALD
  Of 631 8th Ave., Juniata, died at 7:20 p.m. yesterday, April 17, 1969, in 
Altoona Hospital, where he was admitted April 7, after a lengthy illness.  He 
was born Nov. 29, 1906, in Altoona, the son of John and Cora (Myers) O'Donald, 
and married Frances Hoffner on Oct. 24, 1934, in Juniata.  Surviving are his 
wife, and a son and daughter, William E. of Juniata and Mrs. Donna Pielmeier of 
Altoona; eight grandchildren, and four brothers and sisters, Mrs. Nora Goaziou 
and Mrs. Ruth Isenberg of Juniata, Alfred B. of Greenwood and William of 
Bellwood.  Mr. O'Donald was employed with Penn Central at Eastbound repair yard 
for 42 years.  He was a member of Gethsemane United Methodist Church, Juniata.  
Friends will be received in the Mauk & Yates Funeral Home from noon until 10 
p.m. Sunday and after 10 a.m. Monday.

JOHN P. O'DONNELL
  Of Utahville, Coalport RD, died yesterday, March 15, 1973, at his home.  He 
was born June 23, 1916, in Utahville, a son of Dale and Oneida (O'Shell) 
O'Donnell, and married Susan Gathagan on April 1, 1939, in Winchester, Va.  
Surviving are his wife, four children, Thomas D. of Pine Hill, N.J., Mrs. John 
McIntyre of Hazlet, N.J., L. John of Cresson and David C. of Irvona; five 
grandchildren, and two brothers and a sister, Benjamin and Mrs. Helen Fundanish 
of Utahville and Dean of Beccaria.  Mr. O'Donnell was a member of Coalport Lodge 
574, F&AM; Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Altoona; Jaffa Shrine 
Temple, Moshannon Valley Shrine Club and Northern Cambria Shrine Club.  Friends 
will be received in the Troxell Funeral Home, Glasgow, after 7 p.m. today.

OLEWINE, Harry S., Sr., 1970

HARRY S. OLEWINE SR.
  A former Altoonan residing in Carrolltown, was dead on arrival at Miners 
Hospital, Spangler, yesterday, April 14, 1970.  He was born in Duncansville 
Sept. 11, 1897, a son of George L. and Bertha (Treese) Olewine, and was twice 
married, first to Catherine Buchanan, who died Feb. 9, 1967; then to Martha M. 
Stine.  Surviving are his wife, two children, Harry Jr. and Mrs. Lois Walter of 
Altoona; seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and four brothers and 
sisters, Mrs. Ruth Mather of Altoona, Joseph of East Freedom, Mrs. Helen Jakake, 
in California, and George of Hillside, N. J.  Mr. Olewine was a retired Middle 
Division engineer and member of the B. of L.F.&E.  Friends will be received in 
the Stevens Funeral Home, Carrolltown, from 7 to 10 p.m. today and in the 
Bigelow Funeral Home, Altoona, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow.

WILLIAM E. OLEWINE
  A native of Altoona residing at 135 W. Dudley St., Indianapolis, Ind., died 
this morning.  He was born on May 23, 1907, a son of Arthur P. and Effa 
(Stiffler) Olewine, and married Alma Peters.  Surviving are his wife, a 
daughter, Mrs. Ardith Deitz of Concord, Mass., and two grandchildren.  He was a 
member of the Centre Methodist church in Indianapolis, a former member of the 
Llyswen Methodist Church and the Masons and employed as a scale inspector, 
Southwest Region, for the past 39 years, a member of the P.R.R. shopcraft 
supervisors.  Friends will be received in the Axe Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. 
tomorrow and after 11 a.m. Saturday.

JOANNE M. ONDESKO
  Of Liverpool, Pa., died Thursday, March 31, 1977, in Harrisburg as a result of 
a traffic accident.  She was a waitress at Hardee's Hamburgers.  She was born 
Oct. 14, 1956, in Altoona, a daughter of Michael and Lois (Dunkel) Ondesko.  
Surviving are her parents, a daughter, Nicole; six brothers and sisters, all of 
Liverpool, Michael, Linda, Joseph, David, Thomas and James; a step-grandmother, 
Betty Dunkel of Juniata, and several aunts and uncles.  Friends will be received 
in the Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Juniata, from noon to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. 
tomorrow and 9 to 10 a.m. Monday.

ORBAN - Bertalan "Bert", 76, 136 Truman Blvd., Johnstown, formerly of Windber, 
died July 16, 1978, at Memorial Hospital.  Born April 26, 1902, in Hungary, son 
of Ignots and Julia Orban.  Preceded in death by parents, and sister, Kathryn 
Zoltansky.  Survived by widow, former Margaret Berish, and these children:  
Bert, Akron, Ohio, and Margaret, Arlington, Va.; also four grandchildren.  
Member of  UMWA, Windber.  Friends received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9:30 p.m. 
Monday at Richard D. Ondriezek Funeral Home, Nanty Glo, where service will be 
held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, the Rev. Arthur Antal.  Interment, Lloyd Cemetery,

O'REILLY, Mary Magdalen, 1974

SISTER MARY MAGDALEN O'REILLY
A resident of McAuley Hall, Cresson, home for retired Sisters of Mercy, died at 
4:45 a.m. today, March 7, 1974, at Mercy Hospital, Johnstown.  A native of 
Crafton, Sister O'Reilly was in the 60th year of her religious profession.  She 
entered the Religious Sisters of Mercy in February 1912.  She filled the post of 
superior and principal in her community, and taught in the various schools in 
the diocese, including Bishop Guilfoyle and Bishop McCort High Schools.  She 
also taught in St. Peter's School, Butler.  Surviving is a brother, John, in 
Florida.  Friends will be received at Mount Aloysius Junior College, Cresson, 
today and tomorrow.

EDWARD J. ORLANDO
  Of 427 E. Grant Ave., died at 11:55 p.m. yesterday in the Altoona Hospital, 
where he was admitted Wednesday.  He was born in Altoona on Oct. 7, 1919, a son 
of George and Grace (Sassano) Orlando, and married Jane Slick on Dec. 5, 1952.  
Surviving are his wife and a son, Jeffrey, at home, a brother and four sisters, 
Mario, Mrs. Josephine Barone and Mrs. Jennie Ferrone of Altoona, Mrs. Helen 
Mento of Pitcairn and Mrs. Edith Cerchiaro of Pittsburgh.  Mr. Orlando was an 
Army veteran of World War II and a member of James L. Noble Post, Veterans of 
Foreign Wars.  He was employed as a nursing assistant at the Altoona VA 
Hospital.  Friends will be received in the Santella Funeral Home from 2 to 4 and 
7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow.

  83, of 407 S. Market St., Martinsburg, died unexpectedly at 7 a.m. today, 
April 26, 1980 in the Morrison Cove Home, Martinsburg.  She was born March 26, 
1897, in Huntingdon, the daughter of Frank W. and Lettie (David) Miller, and 
Aug. 23, 1915, in Altoona, married Harry Lee Ormsby, who died Oct. 1962.  
Surviving are six children, Oliver H. and Richard F. of Tyrone RD, Harry L. of 
Petersburg RD, Donald G. and Mrs. Peggy Ritchey of Martinsburg RD, Mrs. Shirley 
Jean Urbanek of Sebastian, Fla., 21 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 
six brothers and sisters, Mrs. Neva Bressler, Mrs. Veda Harshbarger and Fred of 
Altoona.  Mrs. Blanche Bousum and Mrs. Ruth Johnston of Tyrone and George of 
Tyrone RD.  Mrs. Ormsby was a member of Martinsburg Methodist Church.  She was a 
charter and star member of the American War Mothers.  Friends will be received 
from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the John C. Bolger Funeral Home, 
Martinsburg.

BEVERLY J. ORTZ
  Of 1320 W. Central Ave., Williamsport, died at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 31, 
1978, in Williamsport Hospital.  Mrs. Ortz was a receptionist in the office of 
Dr. Eugene Chianelli, a Williamsport dentist.  She was born April 4, 1936, in 
Tyrone, a daughter of Melvin and Maude (Waite) Gillam, and married John E. Ortz.  
Surviving are her husband, father and stepmother, Grace of Altoona RD 3; and 
three brothers, Robert L. of Tyrone, M. Donald of Rising Sun, Md., and Kenneth 
E. of Lewistown, Mrs. Ortz was a member of Lycoming Presbyterian Church and 
board of deacons,.  She was also a member of the Williamsport Chapter of the 
Order of the Eastern Star.  She was vice president of the Independent Fire 
Company Auxiliary, Williamsport.  Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. 
Monday in the Sanders Funeral Home, Williamsport, and 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday 
in the Getz & Searer Funeral Home, Tyrone.

OSBORN, Riley I., 1972

RILEY I. OSBORN
  Of Cross Keys, died at 8:20 p.m. yesterday, Sept. 4, 1972, in Mercy Hospital, 
where he was admitted Aug. 31, after an extended illness.  He was born in 
Altoona April 21, 1890, a son of Irvin and Ella (Riley) Osborn, and was married 
to Edith Wilt on Feb. 12, 1912, by the Rev. Louis Scholppler in Hollidaysburg.  
Surviving are his wife, two children, Mrs. Effie Trexler of Cross Keys and 
Wesley R. of Damascus, Md.; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, two 
great-great-grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Florence Grace of Detroit, Mich.  
Mr. Osborn was a member of the Carson Valley Church of the Brethren.  He retired 
in 1953 after 35 years' service as a boilermaker in the Juniata Shops.  Friends 
will be received in the Haller Funeral Home, Hollidaysburg, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 
10 p.m. tomorrow.

OSHALL - Mrs. Mary Matilda, 84, Coalport, formerly of Colver and Beaver Valley, 
died June 14, 1966, at Altoona Hospital.  Born July 22, 1881, in Flinton, 
daughter of Courtes and Emma (Troxell) Flemming.  Married to William H. Oshall, 
who died in 1961.  Survived by these children:  Courtes, Coalport R. D.; Ammon, 
Flinton; Floyd, Coalport; Mrs. Hunda Spangler, Howard, Pa., and Mrs. Wilda 
Gates, Colver; also 25 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.  Sister of 
Mrs. Alice Glasgow and Mrs. Sue Delozier, both of Glasgow, and Mrs. Enid 
Kutruff, Mrs. Lena Harpster and Doss Flemming, all of Flinton R. D.  Friends 
received after 7 p.m. Wednesday at Russell L. Troxell Funeral Home, Glasgow, 
where service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, the Rev. J. Robert Singleton.  
Interment, Beaver Valley Cemetery.

MRS. BARBARA O'SHELL
  A native of Altoona residing at 5475 California Ave., Bethel Park, died 
unexpectedly of a heart attack yesterday morning.  She was born Oct. 26, 1932, a 
daughter of W. Clair and Aleeta (Liebegott) Calvert, and was married to Paul F. 
O'Shell on July 16, 1954, in the Duncansville Lutheran Church by the Rev. G. B. 
Harman.  Surviving are her husband and two daughters, Tammy and Tracey, at home:  
her parents, of Duncansville, and a sister and two brothers, James of Maple 
Hollow, Mrs. Margaret Mervine of Pittsburgh and Sgt. William C. of Tacoma, Wash.  
Mrs. O'Shell was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Bethel Park.  Friends will 
be received in the Connell Funeral Home, Bethel Park, from 7 p.m. today until 
Sunday, and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, in the Liebegott Funeral Home, 
Duncansville.

COURTES R. OSHELL
  Of Smoke Run, Coalport Rd, died at 10:10 a.m. yesterday, Jan. 12, 1975, at 
Altoona VA Hospital following an extended illness.  He retired as a miner from 
Freedom Coal Co.  He was born Aug. 4, 1906, in Flinton, a son of William and 
Mary (Fleming) Oshell, and married Ellen Kuhn.  Surviving are his wife and two 
children, Mrs. Linda Toler of Medina, Ohio, and SAR Randy, stationed with the 
Navy at Norfolk, Va.; two grandchildren, and two sisters and a brother, Mrs. 
Russel Spangler of Lock Haven, Mrs. David Gates of Colver and Amon of Flinton.  
Mr. Oshell was a member of the United Methodist Church, Smoke Run.  A veteran of 
World War II, he was a member of the Coalport VFW.  Friends will be received in 
the Plass Funeral Home, Glasgow, from 7 to 9 p.m. today, 2 to 4 p.m. 7 to 9 
p.m., tomorrow and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday.

ARTHUR C. OSTRANDER
  Of 316 2nd Ave., died at 5:03 a.m. today, Aug. 2, 1976, at Mercy Hospital, 
where he was admitted July 20.  Mr. Ostrander retired Jan. 5, 1968, from the 
Pennsylvania Railroad as a car inspector with 47 years' service.  He was born 
Jan. 9, 1904, in Bellefonte, a son of Oscar and Bessie (McKinley) Ostrander, and 
married Catharine N. Burns, who died March 25, 1972.  Surviving are four 
children, Arthur C. Jr. of Huntingdon and David S., Mrs. Dorothy I. Edmundson 
and Ormond O. of Altoona; 11 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, a great-
great-grandchild and seven brothers and sisters, Joseph, Malcolm and Betty of 
Altoona, Guy of Lewistown, Mrs. Louise Crumm of York, Mrs. Beatrice Rush of 
Bellefonte and Mrs. Leah Wietrick of Denver, Colo.  Mr. Ostrander was a member 
of the Trinity United Church of Christ, Altoona.  Friends will be received in 
the Gilden Barton Funeral Home.

CATHARINE N. OSTRANDER
  Of 316 2nd Ave., died at 7:45 p.m. Saturday, March 25, 1972, in Altoona 
Hospital, where she was admitted Jan. 7.  She was born Sept. 16, 1902, in 
Altoona, a daughter of William T. and Emma (Weyandt) Burns, and May 26, 1921, in 
the Trinity Reformed Church was married to Arthur C. Ostrander by the Rev. Roy 
Runkle.  Surviving are her husband, four children, Mrs. Dorothy J. Edmundson, 
David S. and Ormond O. of Altoona and Arthur C. Jr. of Huntingdon; 10 
grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and a brother, Clyde of Altoona.  Mrs. 
Ostrander was a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ, the John Wolf 
Chapter of War Mothers and the Delphi Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star.  
Friends will be received in the Barton-Stevens Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. 
today and 2 to 4 and 7 to 90 p.m. tomorrow.

  Of New Paris, died yesterday in the Windber Hospital.  She was born Jan. 4, 
1889, at New Paris, a daughter of O. S. Corle and Emma Jane (Horner) Otto, and 
married Nicholas Ellsworth, who preceded her in death.  Surviving are three 
children, James David, Mrs. Ethel Louis Carmana and John Ellsworth, all of New 
Enterprise; 10 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, a brother Harper Corle

FLORENCE MABEL OTTO
  Of Pinecroft, Altoona RD 1, Box 717, died at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 13, 1974, 
in Altoona Hospital after a lengthy illness.  She was born Dec. 21, 1900, in 
Mountaindale, a daughter of Benjamin C. and Mary (Holland) Forshey, and married 
Edward B. Otto on April 24, 1920, in Altoona.  Surviving are her husband, two 
sons, Ernest F. and Clifford S. of Juniata; six grandchildren, 13 great-
grandchildren and three brothers and a sister, Guy of Pinecroft, Walter of 
Altoona, Jay, in Ohio, and Mrs. Agnes Pfahler of Bellwood.  Mrs. Otto was a 
member of Pinecroft United Methodist Church and the Pinecroft Fire Company and 
Veterans of World War I Barracks auxiliaries.  Friends will be received in the 
Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Juniata, from 3:30 to 9 p.m. today and 10 a.m. to 2 
p.m. tomorrow.

Former City Furniture Dealer Dies
  Sewell S. Over, 85, who retired Dec. 31, 1955, after 35 years in the furniture 
business in the city, died at 7:08 p.m. Saturday in the home of his 
granddaughter, Mrs. Gaius Hanawalt of 800 E. Hamilton Lane, with whom he 
resided.
  He was born at Osterburg on Sept. 6, 1880, a son of James E. and Sarah (Mauk) 
Over, and married Anna G. Hasenstab, who died Sept. 3, 1955.
  Surviving are the granddaughter, eight great-grandchildren and several nieces 
and nephews.
  He was a member of St. Mark's Catholic Church.
  Friends are being received in the Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Juniata.
