Dr. J. H. Ake Drops Dead.

Special to the Tribune.
WILLIAMSBURG, Pa., January 25. - Dr. J. H. Ake, a well-known citizen
of this town and one of our most learned and successful physicians,
dropped dead about 5 o'clock this evening while walking across the
room in which his wife was lying prostrated with sickness. The cause
of this sudden death was neuralgia of the heart, from which the doctor
had been suffering for several weeks. His death, however, was as
unexpected as it was sudden, and has shocked the whole community who
deeply sympathize with his bereaved and invalid wife and family. He
was about 60 years of age and has practiced medicine in this town for
many years.

WILLIAMSBURG WAIFS.

On Friday of last week the remains of Dr. J. H. Ake were laid in their
final resting place in a piece of ground joining the Presbyterian
cemetery. An immense number of people gathered to take the last look
and perform the last sad rite to the dead doctor. The people gathered
from far and near, walking some of them six and seven miles. The
doctor, although he did not belong to any visible church, revered,
respected and worshipped the name and being of his Master and Saviour.
In his family he was kind and indulgent, among his friends social and
genial, and many a one standing around was heard to say we will miss
him as our friend and physician. The funeral cortege was a large one,
and as he was buried with the honors of war by the Grand Army post of
Williamsburg, that body with arms reversed, was at the head of the
column, the drum corps playing the slow measured dead march. The
doctor was a surgeon in the army during the late struggle in upholding
our country. He was at Chancellorsville and with General Sherman on
his march to the sea. He loved to talk of it and the scenes he passed
through. Rest in peace.
