Hon. Joseph G. Adlum,

A former citizen of Altoona, died at his home in Bellwood yesterday 
morning at 1:30 o'clock, after a long illness.  He was born in Muncy, 
Lycoming county, Pa., July 9, 1816.  In the year 1831 he located at 
Bellwood and remained there until 1848, when he came to Altoona, being 
one of our first citizens.  He engaged in mercantile business, was 
prominent in borough affairs and was the second justice of the peace 
elected in Altoona.  Twice afterward he served in the state legislature 
from Blair county, in 1865-66.  He became a member of the Methodist 
church when 20 years of age, and was a zealous member of that 
denomination the remainder of his life.  Mr. Adlum is survived by his 
wife and two daughters - Misses Kate and Mary, residing in Bellwood, 
and two daughters, Mrs. A. P. MacDonald and Mrs. Homer Vaughan, of this 
city, and two sons, W. D. and D. J. Adlum, whose homes are in the west.  
The funeral services will be held at the late home of the deceased, 
Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock.  The funeral cortege will arrive 
in this city on mail west, due 3:40, and the interment will take place 
in Fairview cemetery.
