FOUR HEROES OF WAR WILL BE REINTERRED

  The bodies of Pvt. Robert E. Adams of Greenwood, Pvt. Kenneth E. Pounds of 
1515 Second street, Pvt. Meyer Small of 707 Nineteenth street, and Pfc. William 
M. Miller, jr., of Hollidaysburg, all of whom made the supreme sacrifice in the 
European theatre of operations in World war II, will arrive in Altoona this 
afternoon and tomorrow afternoon for reinterment, with military honors.
  The body of Pvt. Adams will be removed to the home of his mother, 704 North 
Ninth street, Bellwood, where friends will be received after noon Tuesday.  
Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon in the Greenwood Evangelical 
United Brethren church.
  The body of Pvt. Pounds will arrive in the city at 6.10 o'clock tomorrow 
evening and friends will be received after noon Wednesday at the Laughlin 
funeral home where funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon.
  Also aboard the train at 6.10 o'clock tomorrow evening will be the body of 
Pvt. Small, which will be taken to the Lafferty funeral home where friends may 
call after 7 o'clock tomorrow evening.  Funeral services will be held at the 
Agudath Achim synagogue Wednesday afternoon, with military honors accorded the 
veteran.
  The body of Pfc. Miller will arrive at 6.10 o'clock tomorrow evening also and 
friends will be received after 7 o'clock tomorrow evening at the Creamer, 
VanAllman & Plank funeral home, Hollidaysburg, where funeral services will be 
held Wednesday afternoon.
  Pvt. Adams was killed in action in Normandy July 11, 1944, after having 
participated in the invasion.  He entered the service in October, 1942, and went 
overseas in March, 1944.
  He was born in Greenwood Feb. 6, 1917, a son of George H. and Ivy (Brannen) 
Adams, and attended the Greenwood Evangelical United Brethren church and Sunday 
school.  Prior to entering the service he was employed in the Second street 
steel shops of the Altoona works.
  Surviving are his mother, six brothers and three sisters, Frank, Russell and 
James of Juniata, Edward of Greenwood, Sherrill, Wilmer and Lucretia, all of 
Bellwood, Mrs. Albert Kott and Sylvia, both of Greenwood.
  Pvt. Pounds died Sept. 19, 1944, of wounds suffered Sept. 12 while serving 
with the infantry in France.  He entered the service Feb. 18, 1943.
  He was born in Altoona Nov. 27, 1922, a son of J. Lawrence and Irene (Ramsey) 
Pounds, and was a member of the Fourth Lutheran church.  Prior to entering the 
service he was employed at the Negley service station.
  Surviving are the parents, two brothers and four sisters, Ralph D. and George 
V. Pounds, Mrs. Nora Powley, Mrs. Cora VanSickle and Mrs. Freda Houser, all of 
the city, and Mrs. Mary Anderson of Cleveland, O.
  Pfc. Miller died Oct. 16, 1944, in a base hospital in England of wounds 
suffered July 11 in France while serving in the infantry.  He entered the 
service April 9, 1943, and went overseas to Ireland in September, 1943.
  He was born Nov. 27, 1923, in Hollidaysburg, a son of William M. and Mary 
(Webb) Miller and prior to entering the service was employed by the Shaffer 
Stores company.  He saw [sic] a member of the Zion Lutheran church, 
Hollidaysburg, and of the James L. Noble post, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
  Surviving are his mother, one sister and one brother, Mary and Harry, both at 
the home.  His father died Feb. 3, 1947.
  Pvt. Small was killed in action in France July 1, 1944, while serving in the 
infantry.  He entered the service Oct. 22, 1942, and went overseas to England in 
April, 1944.  A graduate of Altoona High school in the class of 1940, he had 
been employed at the Nevin drug store in the city prior to entering the service.  
Pvt. Small was a member of the Agudath Achim congregation.
  He was born in Altoona Jan. 24, 1922, a son of Henry and Minnie (Klevan) 
Small.  Surviving are his parents, two brothers and one sister, Louis, Sylvia 
and Fred, all at the home.

FUNERAL NOTICES

ADAMS - Funeral services with full military honors for Pvt. Robert Eugene Adams, 
Greenwood, will be held Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock by his pastor, Rev. 
C. W. Winey, in the Greenwood United Brethren church.  Interment in Greenwood 
Cemetery.  Friends are being received at the home of his mother, 704 North Ninth 
street, Bellwood, after noon Tuesday.

MILLER - Military funeral services for Pfc. William M. Miller, jr. 617 Condron 
street, Hollidaysburg, will be held at the Creamer, VanAllman and Plank funeral 
home Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock in charge of Rev. E. N. Bauer.  
Interment in Presbyterian cemetery.  Friends are being received at the funeral 
home after 7 o'clock Tuesday evening.

POUNDS - Funeral services for Pvt. Kenneth E. Pounds of 1515 Second street, will 
be held with military honors at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the Laughlin 
funeral home in charge of Rev. Ralph W. Lind.  Interment in Alto-Reste burial 
park.  Friends are being received at the Laughlin funeral home after noon 
Wednesday.

SMALL - Funeral services for Pvt. Meyer Small of 707 Nineteenth street, will be 
held at 1 o'clock Wednesday afternoon in the Agudath Achim synagogue.  Interment 
in the Agudath Achim cemetery.  Military honors will be accorded the young 
veteran.  Friends may call at the John P. Lafferty funeral home after 7 o'clock 
Tuesday evening.
