THE REV. CLETUS A. ADAMS [photo]

  The Rev. Cletus A. Adams, T.O.R., 80, Hollidaysburg, died Monday, December 
30, 1996 At Mercy Regional Health System.
  He was born May 9, 1916, in Altoona, the son of Valentine and Gertrude 
(McGuire) Adams.
  Rev. Adams entered the Third Order Regular of St. Francis, Province of the 
Immaculate Conception, October 17, 1929.  He professed his first vows July 8, 
1934 and final vows July 19, 1937.  He was ordained to the priesthood, June 9, 
1941, in Washington, D. C.
  He received his bachelor of science degree from St. Francis College in 1938.
  Rev. Adams retired at St. Joseph Friary, Hollidaysburg, in 1988. He 
previously served as prefect of discipline and instructor at St. Bernardine 
Monastery and Highland Hall, Hollidaysburg, from 1941 to 1945 and from 1951 to 
1953; served at James Barry Robinson School for Boys, Norfolk, Va. from 1968 to 
1970; Pastor of St. Anthony of Padua Parish, Windber, from 1945 to 1948 and 
from 1966 to 1968; prior and econome at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel from 1948 to 
1951, Pastor of Sacred Heart Church, Alverda, from 1953 to 1965; Pastor of 
various parishes in South Dakota, from 1970 to 1983, including St. Michael 
Church, Kennebec, Our Lady of Victory church, Kadoka and Our Lady of Perpetual 
Help Cathedral, Rapid City; and Pastor of St. Mary Church, Shade Gap, from 1984 
to 1988.
  Surviving are a brother, John of Johnstown, and three sisters: Rose of 
Florida, Alice in Connecticut and Grace in Hawaii.
  Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 2 to 4 
p.m. Thursday at Stevens Mortuary.

ADAMS - The funeral of the Rev. Fr. Cletus A. Adams, T.O.R., Hollidaysburg, 
will be held with a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel 
Catholic Church. Interment in St. Bernardine Monastery Community Cemetery. A 
wake service will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic 
Church.  He is also survived by his Franciscan community.
