Mrs. Catherine Duke 
 
MEXICAN WAR SOLDIER'S WIDOW

Mrs. Catherine Duke, widow of the late Ashley W. Duke, who 
died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Louisa Learish, at 
617 Bigler avenue, on Saturday morning, March 14th, 1925, 
at 10:50 o'clock, was born August 16th 1843/1845?, and was 
therefore aged 79 years, 6 months and 20 days. Death was 
due to a paralytic stroke.  
 
Her husband was a soldier in the Mexican War, and Mrs. Duke 
was likely the last surviving Mexican war widow in this county.  
She is survived by the following children: I. J. Duke, Ashley 
Duke and Daniel Duke, of Woodland, and Mrs. Louisa Learish of 
Clearfield.  Twenty-seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren 
also survive.

The deceased lived at Woodland for many years before coming to Clearfield
to end her days with her daughter.  The funeral was held from the
Woodland U. B. church, and interment was made in Bradford Cemetery.
