CURWENSVILLE

Word was received last evening of death of Walter Broome, a former
Curwensville boy now living at Brookville, Pa., which occurred at
Philadelphia yesterday.
Walter Broome was the youngest son of Henry and Martha Broome, and
was born in Curwensville about 38 years ago, where he resided until he
reached early manhood. He was educated in the public schools of the
town, and when he finished the high school course, entered the hardware
store of his grandfather, Jacob Bilger. He remained a clerk for some
years, but securing a position as a commercial traveler for a
Pittsburgh house, he went on the road, making Brookville his
headquarters. There he met, wooed and married Miss Anna Murphy, a
young lady of that town. He purchased a home and has lived in
Brookville since his marriage. He was employed by the Pittsburgh firm
for a number of years, or until a change was made in the firm by the
death of the senior member. Then it was that Mr. Broome resigned his
position as a traveling salesman and entered a business of shipping
ore, mined near Anderson Creek, and in this trade he was engaged when
the death hand smote him so suddenly. Just three weeks ago he was in
Curwensville attending the funeral of his mother, and one week later
was in town again, disposing of her personal effects, and appeared to
be in full vigor of manhood. His death announcement yesterday came as
a shock to his Curwensville relatives and friends. His body will be
taken to his Brookville home when his funeral will be held. A widow
and three children survive him; also one brother, John Broome, of
Millersburg, Pa. Date of his funeral will be announced later.
