Tyrone Herald 19 May 1887

MURDER OR SUICIDE.
Philipsburg, May 10.About 9
o'clock last night Maggie MCCANN, a
???ng woman who does not bear a very
??vary reputation around this place
came running to a party of men who
were standing on the street, and stated
that Jacob BOYER had killed himself
down at the old Phillipsburg depot. The
men at once went with her and found
us she had said, that the man had been
shot and that he was dead. An examination
showed that the ball had entered
the back part of the head and came out
of the face near the eye.
The woman maintained that he had
shot himself, but as this did not look at
all plausible she was put under arrest,
and will be held for trial, chared with
his murder.
BOYER is a young man about 22 years
of age, and his home was in Auburn, N.Y.,
but for about two years he has been
yard master on the Beech Creek road at
Hawk Run. He was engaged to be
married to an estimable young lady of
this place, and it is said that the murder
was committed by Maggie MCCANN, his
mistress, in a fit of jealous raRe. The
fact that they bad been seen together
during the day, and that it was she who
gave the first news of his death, makes
it look badly for her.
