CHARLES ALLEN

Life Long and Popular Resident Succumbs to Heart Attack Tuesday Morning

EMPLOYEE OF ERIE RAILROAD 28 YEARS
 
Residents of Brockway and vicinity were shocked when early Tuesday morning it 
became known that Charles H. Allen, a life long resident of this place, had 
died suddenly at about 4:20 a.m., from a heart attack at his home at 1132 
Eighth avenue.

Mr. Allen had not been well for the past six months, at which time his 
physician advised him regarding a heart ailment. He worked as usual on Monday, 
returning home about 8:30 p.m. At 4:20 a.m. he was discovered by Mrs. Allen 
lying on the living room floor in a dying condition.  A physician was 
summoned, who pronounced him dead from a heart attack.

Charles Hunter Allen was born in DuBois, May 25, 1880. He lost his father in 
his early childhood. He was adopted by his mother's sister and husband, Mr. 
and Mrs. J. B. Allen and was as dear to them as if he were their own, 
receiving every care that fond parents could lavish on a beloved son.

He was married to Lena Mae Keys of this place, Jan. 1, 1905, and has resided 
practically continually in Brockway since childhood.
   
He has been employed for the past 28  years by the Erie railroad where he had 
risen to the position of a conductor.
   
Deceased was the father of four children, three of whom survive as follows: 
Kenneth, of Atlanta, Georgia; (Mildred) Mrs. Kenneth Rowles, and (Rugene) Mrs. 
Ernest Erickson, both of this place. His mother, Mrs. L. A Matson, of 
Brockway, R. D. 1, and his wife, with the following half brothers and sister, 
also survive: Elton Matson, of Brockway, Ivan Matson, of Brockway, R. D. 1; 
Albert and Ethel, who reside in West Virginia.
   
A little son, Robert, died in 1913, at the age of two years.
   
Mr. Allen was a member of the M. E. church at this place and also the B. R. T. 
and the B. A. R. E.
   
Funeral services will be conducted this (Friday) afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at 
the home, Rev. W. O. Calhoun, officiating, and burial will take place at 
Morningside cemetery, DuBois, Pa.
