DIED IN PHILADELPHIA.

  Mrs. Frances Alexander, aged 35 years, wife of Hon. Joseph Alexander, 
of Madera, Clearfield county, died in Philadelphia Monday night October 
30, death being the result of an operation performed in that city 
Friday last.  She is survived by her husband, who is a member of the 
house of representatives from Clearfield county; by a little daughter, 
aged 4 years, and by one sister, Mrs. H. C. Tussy, of this city.  The 
funeral will take place on Saturday, the interment being made at 
Madera.

IN MEMORIAM.

  Mrs. Frances Hunter Alexander, wife of Hon. Joseph Alexander, of 
Maderia [sic], Clearfield county, Pa., died in the Medico-Chirurgical 
hospital, Philadelphia, Pa., on Monday night, October 30, 1899, from 
secondary shock following an operation performed on the Friday previous 
for a serious trouble of which she had been afflicted for some years.  
Her condition after the operation was hopeful until within an hour of 
her death.  The funeral services were held in the Presbyterian church 
at Madera, Pa., on Saturday, November 4, at 1 o'clock p.m., by the 
pastor of the church, Rev. Halloway, assisted by her former pastor, Dr. 
J. H. Mathers, of Bellwood, Pa.  Mrs. Alexander was in her 40th year; a 
daughter of Thomas and Meriam Hunter, of near Bellwood, Blair county, 
Pa.  She was the mother of one child, Frances, a bright little girl, 
born October 2, 1896.  She leaves to mourn for her, her husband and 
child, two step-children, Miss Minerva Alexander, teacher, Altoona, 
Blair county, public schools; C. B. Alexander, civil and mining 
engineer, residing in Idaho.  Also an aged father, eight sisters and 
four brothers.  Her mother, two brothers and one sister have passed 
over before her.
  She was a consistent member of the Presbyterian church for over 
twenty-four years, having united with the church in her early girlhood 
under the pastorship of Rev. J. H. Mathers, of Bellwood, Pa.  A 
faithful wife and loving mother has gone.
