Clearfield Progress 3/6/1915
Steve Abazatuskey Clearfield Progress 3/6/1915

When he rose hurriedly from a sitting posture in a mining car Steve
Abazatuskey, a Polander, came in contact with the trolley wire in the
mines of the Cascade Coal company at Sykesville and was instantly killed
Thursday afternoon about 4 o'clock. With a companion, Abazatuskey was riding
in a car hauled by a mine motor. Despite previous warnings to be careful of the
exposed trolley wire, the Polander scrambled hurriedly to his feet, to jump
from the car when it stopped, and his head came in contact with the wire, which
carried 250 volts. He was knocked from the car by the shock and death must have
been instantaneous. Dr. Adams was immediately summoned and for over an hour he
and other physicians with a first aid corps, worked with Abazatuskey, but
without effect. He was finally pronounced dead. The deceased was but 25 years
of age, and had resided in Sykesville, for a number of years with his sister.
