Ashland Progress
Alexander City Outlook Apr 17, 1956:
At 93 Mrs. Fanny Jones Bearden of Mellow Valley is very active and keeps
persistently at her washing and housework. She lives with niece. Mrs. Frank
Hilyer. On May 22, 1862, when Gens. Grant and Sherman were hardly heard of, she
was born at Rockdale, Ga. At an early age she moved with her family to Ashland.
Following her marriage to the late J.J. in 1895, the couple moved to Mellow
Valley. For 70 ears she has been a member of Providence Primitive Baptist
Church. As long as her husband lived the couple never missed page a service
there. And, as one of her relatives says: "They went by horse and buggy, and the
weather was never too cold nor rainy for their going to church." However, she
has not been able to attend church regularly for the past few years. And, to
keep on being young at heart with interests that never tire, Mrs. Bearden enjoys
crocheting, quilt-piecing and working with flowers.

County hospital. Survivors include one niece and several nephews. Pallbearers
