BAKER

John E. Baker, an aged resident of the vicinity of Mont Alto, died suddenly at
his home Wednesday evening at 5 o'clock from the infirmities of old age. Five
weeks ago he suffered a broken rib and several other bruises, which disabled him
for a short time.

He had much improved and was able to be around. When his son, John L. Baker,
who resides several miles east of Mont Alto, went to his home to visit him, he
found him lying on the kitchen floor dead. He was in the 82d year of his age.
He lived by himself.

Mr. Baker was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Lazarus Baker and was born and reared in the
vicinity of where he died. He was a tarburner by trade and sold his goods to
the farmers and to storekeepers in Adams county.

He is survived by three sons: John L Baker, near Mont Alto, and Samuel E. and
Adam Baker, of Waynesboro, also by two brothers and two sisters, Mrs. Peter
Metz, of Orrtanna, being a sister.
