Dr. George N. ACKER, a prominent physician of Washington, D. C., and son-in-law 
of Mr. and Mrs. John N. HERSH, New Oxford, died yesterday morning at his home in
Washington after a week's illness from double pneumonia.  Dr. Acker, who was 
well known in Adams county, had been ill a week.
Dr. Acker was a graduate of Gettysburg college in the class of 1909 and served 
as manager of the baseball team during his senior year.  He was a member of the 
Sigma Chi fraternity.  He completed his medical course at Columbia university 
and served his internship at St. Luke's hospital in that city.  During the World 
war, he served overseas in the medical corps.  He began practicing in Washington 
and was prominent in medical circles in that city.  He was a member of the Chevy 
Chase country club and the metropolitan club.
Dr. Acker was a frequent visitor to New Oxford and had a summer home at Blue 
Ridge summit.  He was married to Miss Florence Hersh, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. 
John N. Hersh, New Oxford, who survives with four children:  George, Jr., John 
H., Edward and  Nancy MCClellan Acker, all at home.
