Stokes Evans

An important event of the mid-summer season was the wedding of Miss Evelyn
Stokes to Mr. Frank Evans. The marriage took place Wednesday morning at nine
thirty in the Methodist church, Gen. Clement A. Evans officiating.

The church was elaborately decorated for the occasion, the arrangement of the
altar being especially adopted for such a function. Pink and white with green
was the color scheme of the occasion, quantities of pink hearts were used for
the decoration. Tall ferns and palms were grouped within the railing, that a
very graceful and pretty background was formed for the attendants, while the
altar was tastily twined with smilax and now and then a pink heart was put in
to carry out the heart effect of the wedding. Just in front of the altar was
suspended two large white hearts, one was bordered with pink roses the other
with white, these were linked together by an arrow, significant of the two
hearts that beat as one.

Mrs. Dallis, of LaGrange sang You very charmingly just before the ceremony.

The bridal party entered the church to the strains of Lohengrin's wedding march
and left to the strains of Mendelsohn's played by Miss Lucile Lowe. The
bridesmaids wore white linen jumper suit with white picture hats, they carried
bouquets of pink carnations and asparagus fern.

Misses Katie Will McNeal and Minnie Lowe also wore linen suits with picture
hats, they carried bouquets of pink roses and asparagus fern.

Miss Katie Will McNeal the first maid came in alone, the bride came in with the
second maid, Miss Minnie Lowe. The bride was married in a Copenhagen vaile
with hat and gloves to match, she carried a shower bouquet of brides roses and
lilies of the valley. The shade of blue used in the gown was strikingly
becoming to the youthful bride, bringing out the coloring of this beautiful
young girl. The bride and groom left immediately for the station, where they
left for their future home in LaGrange.

The attendants of the wedding were: Maid of honor, Misses Katie Will McNeal and
Minnie Lowe, Best man, Mr. Tom Evans, of Columbus, Bridesmaid, Misses Mildred
Jackson, of Alexander City, Ala., Bernie Vickers, of Fairburn and Carrie
Wooten. Grooms men, Messrs. Clifford Peacock, of Columbus, Willie Burt, of
Oxford, and Robert Stokes. Heart girls, Little Misses Katherine Lowe and
Pearle Lowe Hamner. Ushers Messrs. Willie Crye and Frank Lowe.

Mrs. Evans as Miss Stokes, is the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R.H. Stokes,
she has won hosts of loyal friends in her hometown whereby her gracious
disposition and rare individuality she has counted her friends by her
acquaintances. The people here regret exceedingly to lose so charming a member
of the social world.

Mr. Evans is a very promising young businessman of LaGrange. He is a member of
one of the oldest and most prominent families of the state. Among the out of
town guests were: Mrs. J.C. Culpepper, of Clayton, Ala., Mr. and Mrs. E.J.
Stokes, of Union Springs, Mr. and Mrs. H.M. Stokes, of Americus, Mr. and Mrs.
Howell Peacock, Miss Lucile Peacock, of Columbus, Mr. and Mrs. Victor
McMichael, of Putnam, Mrs. Ray Dallis, of LaGrange, Gen. Clement A. Evans, of
Atlanta and Captain W.S. Evans, of LaGrange.

General Evans, who officiated at the Stokes-Evans wedding in Buena Vista this
week, is very popular in Marion County. As a soldier, patriot, Christian and
citizen he has few peers and no superiors.
