R.J. Darden Killed By Fast Train

Hogansville, Ga., November 28  R.J. Darden, 63, superintendent of Trimble 
Brick Company here, was instantly killed when struck by Number 38, fast train 
of the Atlanta & West Point railroad, running north from New Orleans to 
Atlanta, this morning about 10 o'clock, at a crossing at the brick plant three 
miles north of Hogansville.  

He was struck by the engine and thrown 30 or 40 feet, and was dead when 
members of the train crew and others reached him. The accident was witnessed 
by several persons but none was close enough to earn Mr. Darden of the 
approaching train.  The crossing is not obstructed.

Mr. Darden was a prominent citizen of Hogansville and one of the most 
extensive farmers in Troup county.  He was a Knight of Pythias and a member of 
the Baptist church.

He is survived by his widow, three children, Miss Howard Darden, Hogansville; 
Mrs. Fay Mooney, Newnan and J.N. Darden, Hogansville; one sister, Mrs. C.D. 
Hayes, LaGrange, and six brothers, J.W. and H.B. Darden, Hogansville; H.W. 
Darden, Corinth; G.S. Darden, Newnan; P.H. Darden, Lovejoy and H.H. Darden, 
New Orleans.

Funeral services will be held from the home Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock, 
Rev. W.S. Adams, of Senoia conducting.  Interment will be in Corinth cemetery 
near here.
