John Brown

Funeral services for John Brown, 74-year-old resident of New Franklin Road, 
will be conducted Friday at 4 p.m. at Oakside Baptist Church by the Revs. 
Ralph Taylor and C. G. Freeman. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens. 
Brown died Wednesday afternoon at City-County Hospital after an illness of 
seven weeks. A native of Heard County, he had live here four and one-half 
years and was a retired farmer. He was a member of Beulah Baptist Church in 
Randolph County, Ala. Survivors include: his wife Mrs. J.H. Brown of LaGrange; 
five daughters, Mrs. Sarah Davis, Mrs. Allie Jones, Mrs. Lorene Moore, Mrs. 
Jean Osborn, Mrs. Kate Parkerson, all of LaGrange; one son, Gurson Brown of 
LaGrange; one brother, Lee Brown of Roanoke, Ala.; eigth (should be eight) 
grandchildren and several nieces and newphews. The body will be at the home. 
The Hunter-Allen-Myhand Funeral Home is in charge.

June 24, 1964 in LaGrange, Troup county, Georgia. John Brown married Birtice 
Maybell Gay on December 7, 1929. John Henry and Birtice Maybell Gay Brown are 
buried in Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery in LaGrange, Troup county, Georgia.

28, 1920 in Walnut Hill, Heard county, Georgia. Benjamin Brown is buried in 
Big Springs Baptist Church Cemetery, Randolph county, Alabama. 

Mary Jane Strickland Brown was born October 17, 1859 in Alabama to Osben 
Strickland and Elizabeth Janiit or Janitt and Mary Jane Strickland Brown died 
May 29, 1938 in Wedowee, Randolph county, Alabama. Mary Jane Strickland is 
buried in Big Springs Baptist Church Cemetery, Randolph county, Alabama.

Brothers and Sisters of John Henry Brown:

James Jim' Robert Brown was born May 28, 1880 (death certificate says 1878) 
in Alabama and died May 27, 1957 in Franklin, Heard county, Georgia. Jim Brown 
married Nancy Elizabeth Prestridge on July 23, 1901. Jim and Nancy Brown are 
buried in Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery, Hillabehatchee, Randolph county, 
Alabama. Jim Brown married Annie Alsobrooks  after Nancy passed away. 

Alonzo Lon' Jackson Brown was born February 27, 1883 (death certificate says 
Feb 29, 1883) in Georgia and died May 17, 1959 in Franklin, Heard county, 
Georgia. Lon Brown married Doshie E. Brown (Brown maiden name) on January 10, 
1904. Lon and Doshie Brown are buried in Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery, 
Hillabehatchee, Randolph county, Alabama. 

Mary Elizabeth Brown was born January 1, 1887 in Randolph county, Alabama and 
died September 10, 1923 in Frolona (Walnut Hill), Heard county, Georgia. Mary 
Elizabeth Brown never married. Mary Elizabeth Brown is buried in Big Springs 
Baptist Church Cemetery, Randolph county, Alabama.

Jossie Brown was born about October 1895 most likely in Heard county, Georgia 
and died before 1900 in most likely Heard county, Georgia. Jossie was a twin 
of Joseph Brown.  

Joseph Joe' Brown was born about October 1895 in most likely Heard county, 
Georgia and died before 1920 in most likely Heard county, Georgia. Joe shows 
up in the 1900 and 1910 Heard county, Georgia census but not the 1920 census. 
Joe was a twin of Jossie Brown.

William Lee Brown was born March 16, 1898 (death certificate say March 16, 
1900) in most likely Heard county, Georgia and died July 7, 1975 in Randolph 
county, Alabama. William Lee Brown married Patsey Jannie Brown Young on 
December 25, 1923. Lee Brown and Patsey Jannie Brown Young Brown are buried in 
Welcome Home Baptist Church Cemetery, Roanoke, Randolph county, Alabama.
