Lamar V. Bobbitt Rites Held Here on Tuesday

Lamar Vivian Bobbitt, 61, prominent Vidalia business, civic, church and 
fraternal leader, died from a sudden illness Sunday.

A native of Laurens County, Georgia, he moved to Vidalia in 1923. He was a 
graduate of  the Vidalia High School, and attended Georgia Southern College, 
and later graduated from the Crowe School of Pharmacy in Atlanta. He received 
his license for the practice of pharmacy in 1935. Returning to Vidalia, he was 
associated with Davis Pharmacy, until joining the United States Navy, serving 
in the Pacific throughout World War II.

Following his discharge from service he returned to Vidalia to establish 
Lamar's Drugs, and at the time of his death was president of Lamar's Pharmacy, 
Inc. which operates two drug stores in Vidalia.

Mr. Bobbitt was a member, and a past chairman of the active Board of Deacons 
of the First Baptist Church, a member of the Men's Bible Class, a charter 
member of the Vidalia Rotary Club; a charter member of the Vidalia Elks Lodge, 
also a charter member of the Vidalia Country Club. He was a member of the 
Masonic lodge, a Shriner, a member of the Quint Shrine Club, and a member of 
the Georgia Pharmaceutical Association.

He is a former director of the Vidalia Athletic Association, and had served as 
chairman of the Vidalia Chapter of the American Red Cross for which he had 
received a special commendation.

He Bobbitt was a son of the late James C., and Victoria Haskins Bobbitt.

Funeral services were held Tuesday from the First Baptist Church with the 
pastor, the Rev. Irvin Northcutt, officiating. Interment was in Pinecrest 
Cemetery where the last rites were concluded. Murchison Funeral Home was in 
charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were: Robert Garbutt,  George Chapman, M. W. Ruffin, J. Frank 
Moore, Wm. D. Warthen, Wm. C. Somers, Jr., Tommy Nasworthy, William Phillips. 
The honorary pallbearers were member of the First Baptist Board of Deacons.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Wynette Phillips Bobbitt, of Vidalia; two 
sons, Phillip Lamar Bobbitt, of Atlanta and Calvin Kyle Bobbitt, of Vidalia; 
three daughters, Misses Gail, Marla, and Vicky Bobbitt, all of Vidalia; a 
brother, James C. Bobbitt, of Macon; three sisters, Mrs. Luther Ray, Jr., of 
Gray, Mrs. F. N. Rudeseal, of Augusta, and Mrs. Harold Daniel of Claxton.

In lieu of flowers, memorials will be accepted in his behalf for either of the 
following: Intensive Care Unit, Georgia Baptist Childrens Home, or the Heart 
Fund.
