The Pike County, Journal, Zebulon, Ga., Friday, April 8, 1927

Dr. J.C. Beauchamp Died Last Monday

Dr. J.C. Beauchamp, well known and beloved citizen of Pike County, died at his
home in Williamson Monday morning and was buried at the Coggin cemetery
Tuesday morning. Funeral services were conducted at the Williamson Methodist
church, of which he had been a member and steward many tears, by Dr. L.M.
Twiggs, presiding Elder of the Griffin District, in the presence of a large
concourse of friends and relatives. The floral tributes were many and
beautiful, attesting the high esteem in which Dr. Beauchamp was held by those
knew him. The following were pall bearers: E.M. Owen, Chas.T. Smith, H.G.
Langford, P.W. Vaughn, T.J. Hunt, R.H. Strickland, Chas. R. Gwyn and Frank L.
Adams. The honorary escort was composed of Dr. E.R. Anthony, Sr., of Griffin
and the physicians of Pike County. Haisten Bros., of Griffin, were funeral
directors.

In addition to his widow, Mrs. Virginia Beauchamp, he is survived by three
daughters: Mrs. A.P. Dickinson, of Williamson; Mrs. Hunton Allen, of Rome and
Mrs. W.H. Meacham, of Atlanta: also three sons - C.C. of Atlanta, and Walter
and Paul of Williamson.

For the past fifty years Dr. Beauchamp has been one of the most prominent men
in Pike county. He was born in Troup county on October 31, 1851, removed to
Meriwether when an infant and lived at or near Woodbury until about eight
years of age when he was brought to Pike county. He was one of the original
settlers of Williamson where he located to practice medicine. As a young man
he taught school and read medicine while teaching, later completing his
medical education at the Atlanta Medical college, a part of Emory University.

Dr. Beauchamp always took a keen interest in public affairs, especially was he
interested in educational matters. He was a member of the Pike County Board of
Education for forty years and president of that body for more than thirty
years. Dr. Beauchamp represented Pike County in the Georgia legislature and
the 22nd district in the senate for four terms. He was the author of many
educational measures which have greatly improved educational conditions in
Georgia.
