Atlanta Constitution, 10 April 1870
DEATH OF MRS. ALFORD.-
Death has again invaded our community and claimed for his own, one of
our "mothers in Israel." Mrs. Margaret E. Alford, mother of Judge A. E. Cox
and of Mrs. Rev. P. A. Heard and Mrs. Dr. H. T. Heard, died in this place, on
Monday night last. Mrs. Alford had been in bad health for some months; and
being a pious and orderly Christian woman, was fully and joyfully prepared to
meet death. She was surrounded by all her children, and that made her
resignation to death complete. Mrs. Alford was born in Greene county, Ga., and
had been a resident of Troup county (most of the time in LaGrange) for about 35
years. She was in the 69th year of her age.-LaGrange Reporter.
