  REV. GENE JOHN ABEL
  
  The Rev. Gene John Abel, 73, Somerset, died Sept. 7, 2004 at Conemaugh Memorial 
  Medical Center.  Born Dec. 23, 1930, in Johnstown, son of Jacob and Lillian 
  (Frick) Abel; and brother of Glenn Abel.  Survived by wife, Alma (Pudliner) 
  Abel, daughter, Rebecca; and son, Christopher.  A retired Lutheran pastor with 
  47 years of service.  He also taught public school for 33 years.  Rev. Abel 
  graduated cum laude from Thiel College, Greenville in 1954, and earned a master 
  of divinity degree from Gettysburg Lutheran Seminary in 1957.  Friends are 
  invited to attend a service at 11 a.m. Thursday at Grandview Mausoleum.  Bishop 
  Gregory Pile officiating.  Assisting will be the Rev. Dr. Wilbert Boerstler.
