Elderly Man Dies In House Trailer Fire At Big Spring
  BIG SPRING - William Henry King, 82, was reportedly burned to death when a fire 
gutted his house - trailer Friday here, state police said.
  It is believed by police that an oil heater exploded causing the fire in the
house - trailer where Mr. King lived alone.
  Clear Spring Fire Company was called to the scene on the Big Pool Rd. about one
mile west of here but was unable to save the house-trailer.
  The fire occurred about 10 p.m.
  The body was taken to Thompson Funeral Home in Clear Spring.
  Investigating Trp. T.R. Winebrenner said the fire was discovered by the wife of
one of the King's sons who lives nearby.  She saw the flames from her kitchen
window about 10:15 p.m. and called the fire department.
  Police reported that the oil furnace was between the bed in which King was
sleeping and the door to the trailer.  King apparantly had tried to escape but
was stopped by the flames, the report continued.
  He was pronounced dead at the scene by Deputy Medical Examiner Dr. Howard N.
Weeks.
  Born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, he lived in Clear Spring area for approximately
60 years.
  He was a member of the Greenspring Evangelical Church; a member of the Red Men
and was a retired railroader.
  He was the son of the late George W. and Mary A. King.
  He is survived by daughters, Mrs. William LaForce, Germantown; Mrs. Willard
Dundus, Mrs. Ernest Socks, Mrs. Harold Martin and Mrs. Paul Grove, all of
Hagerstown; Mrs. Phillip Staley, Waynesboro, Pa.; sons, George F., Leroy H.,
Glenn M., and Arthur T., all of Hagerstown; William L., Clear Spring; Paul V., 
Big Spring; Daniel A., Gaithersburg; John E., Flagstaff, Ariz.; one brother,
George L. King, Harrisburg, Pa.; 50 grandchildren and 60 great-grandchildren
also survive.
  Funeral services will be held on Monday at 2 p.m. from the Thompson Funeral
Home, Clear Spring, with the Rev. Robert E. Timmons officiating with burial
in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
  The family will meet friends at the fuenral home on Sunday evening from 7
to 9.
  There will be no viewing.
