Lineville Headlight June 25, 1931
Dear Editor:
Please allow me to report in your paper, The Headlight, to the general public
the program rendered at Pleasant Hill M. E. Church Sunday June 21.
The writer arrived on the scene at 9:15 finding a record-breaking crowd, people
still kept coming, some in buggies, wagons, cars and Mr. Editor these
conveyances were too limited to accommodate. The people and the bus was drafted
into service. By ten o'clock the house was well filled, and many on the outside,
and people still arriving.
Bro. D. B. Perry, chairman of the program committee called the house to order at
10 o'clock by singing a song after which prayer was offered by Bro. Halpin. The
program was then in full force. Miss Stella Halpin had charge of the program.
With the fine spirit of cooperation and willingness upon the part of everyone
Miss Halpin led the host or little folks and grownups over the top with great
success. The program consisted of readings, Duets, quartets, and drills, all of
which the writer considered very appropriate for the occasion. The good people
on the New Home Charge was with us bringing their program following our program
this program was rendered also its leader being Bro. Parker a very fine
Christian spirited gentleman and a fine program it was. This brought us to
11:45. The writer spoke for 30 minutes, at 12:15 we were dismissed for lunch and
oh such eats Mr. Editor you should have been there. Everyone was satisfied even
the writer, and Uncle Bud White. After lunch had been served enough was gathered
up of the leftovers to serve another such crowd it was claimed, and the writer
does not question the statement. After lunch the people met back in the house
and how did sing, using the old class song books. Several good leaders were
present. It was said by some of the oldest citizens who are acquainted with
Pleasant Hill Church this was the greatest day the Church has had in 31 years.
We do not claim the honor but share it with all our good Baptist friends and
neighbors and all who contribute to the success, or this day Perfect quietness
prevailed throughout day.
