The Cherokee Advance 13 Mar 1885 p 3
Our dear mother, Mrs. Dr. Jas. H. Hardin, was born Feb. 28th 1801 in Pendleton
District, S.C., and departed this life Feb. 4th, in Canton Ga.

She was religiously impressed at an early age. Thirteen years of age she
professed saving faith in Christ and united with with (sic) the Methodist
Church. She was a faithful wife, a help-mate, taking and bearing a wife's part
in all the conflicts the relation brought to her. Her companionship was
devoted, she was ready to share both the sorrows and joys of lifes (sic) path.
In time of despond, she had some word of inspiration; in perplexities, some
counsel. The duty she owed to her children was one she endeavored to perform.
The great concern was to train her children in the nurture and admonition of the
Lord. Thus fit them for this life and introduce to the path that leads to the
Heavenly inheritance. She was persevering instructing, counselling (sic) and
helping to the end.

In all her long connection with the church, she maintained her christian
integrity. Her fidelity to the church and its ordinance was marked. Her love
to all branches of the church was great, but she was especially wedded to her
own church. Her christian life was as a path that shineth more and more unto
the perfect day. Death had lost his sting to her. She often said, 'I desire to
go." "I am only waiting the will of the Lord." Only two days before her death,
she was happy and praised the present Saviour. In life her faith led her on
conquering and to conquer, in death it gave her a glorious triumph.
Her daughter, Lou A. Harris.
