The Marietta Journal and Courier, December 24, 1915
Mrs J T GRIGGS died last Wednesday at her home near Elizabeth while sitting in a
rocker talking to members of her family. She had predicted her death but no one
else realized her condition. She was a sincere Christian and a devoted wife and
mother and was resigned to death. She gave her infant daughter, only 11 days
old, to her sister, Mrs M R MADDOX, and the other children to their aunt, Miss
Victoria GRIGGS, who will send them to school at Macland.

Mrs GRIGGS was Miss Asilee MADDOX and was only 38 years old. Beside her husband
she left six children, Archie Lee, Lola, David, Julia, Blanche, and Asilee. The
funeral was at Macland on Friday morning conducted by Rev G V CROW and Rev F R
JENKINS. The hymns were "God Will Take Care of You," "Nearer My God to Thee,"
"Abide With Me," and "Jesus Lover of My Soul."

The pall bearers wee J R, M A and C J GRIGGS, Walton, M R and Jones MADDOX.

Among the flowers were designs in white roses from the Elizabeth school, the
staff of the Industrial Life Insurance Co of Atlanta and friends of her brother,
Mr Jones MADDOX, known as the McCleskey House boys.
