Little Alice, aged 13 months and 28 days, the second born of Col. and Mrs. P.
P. DuPre, departed this life last Monday, after an illness of only a few days.
The funeral of the child was preached at the Methodist church on Wednesday
morning by Rev. C. M. McClure, after which its remains were consigned to the
grave. The court, out of respect for Col. DuPre, a member of the bar,
adjourned and attended the ceremonies and funeral. A little more than one
year ago these bereaved parents buried their first born, aged about nine
months, and now to have taken from them their only child is indeed sad, and
we, in common with many others, deeply sympathize with the stricken parents,
relatives and friends, yet it is sweet for us to know and realize that "the
Lord giveth, the Lord taketh away, blessed be the name of the Lord," and that
He has said "Suffer little children to come unto me." The spirits of Alice
and Ralph now mingle together, and ever hover near their parents as bright and
shining lights.
