The Cherokee Advance 3 Apr 1884 p 3
Coroner Kirk came in last Tuesday and gave us an account of an inquest which he
held at Hickory Flat on Monday over the body of Charles M. Day, who was found
dead in the field. From the evidence educed (sic) it was shown that no violence
had been resorted to but in all probabilities his death was caused from a spinal
affection (sic); the Jury accordingly returned a verdict that he came to his
death from natural causes unknown to them. Mr. Day was comparatively a young
man and leaves a wife several young children, parents and friends to mourn his
sudden demise. He was an excellent young man, energetic, a good citizen and a
well to do farmer. His remains were interred at Boiling Spring grave yard on
Tuesday last. We tender our sympathies to the bereaved ones.
