HAYES, Mary Jane (Short)

Mrs. Mary Jane Hayes, 69, of Louisa, died at 11 p.m. Wednesday in a Louisa 
hospital of complications which followed injuries suffered in a fall at her home 
earlier last week. Funeral services were conducted Saturday at the Young Funeral 
Home at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. J.C. Hager and Rev. Charles Perry officiating. 
Burial was in the Short Cemetery on route 4, Louisa. She was born April 20, 
1882, at Yatesville, KY, a daughter of the late James and Sarah White Short. She 
and her husband, Tom Hayes, who survives, had been married for 47 years. The 
husband is a retired oil well contractor. Surviving in addition to the husband, 
are two daughters, Mrs. R. H. Chatfield of Collingswood, NJ and Mrs. O. J. 
Short, of Louisa; a son, Tom Hayes, Jr., of Louisa; three sisters, Mrs. Loutisha 
Marcum of Louisa, Mrs. Martha Ball and Mrs. Emma Rice of Louisa, route 4; a 
brother, Jack Short of Louisa route 4 and four grandchildren. The body remained 
at the Young Funeral Home until burial. Big Sandy news, November 29, 1951
