[From The Roanoke Leader (Randolph County, Alabama), 20 May 1903, p.3] FAUSETT--CARLISLE ---------------------------- The social event of the season occurred at the 1st Baptist Church on the evening of May 20th, in the marriage of Mr Samuel C FAUCETT [sic] and Miss Josie P CARLISLE, Dr Jno P SHAFFER officiating. The scene was one of beauty and dignity. East Alabama's greatest musician -- Prof Robt E BLACK -- presided at the organ, by whose inimitable touch every movement was measured. The beautiful auditorium was filled with our best people, especially our young folk, from whose handsome and smiling faces came the brilliancy and beauty of the scene. At the first soft murmur of the organ, expectancy and attention marked every face, and at once the handsome ushers, Messrs W W STEVENSON, S H CARLISLE, Geo L FAUSETT and W A POOL, came slowly down the center aisle of the church, followed by the beautiful and handsomely gowned bride, leaning on the arm of the maid of honor -- Miss Mac FAUSETT, who is a sister of the groom. As the ushers were taking position on the right and left of the altar, Dr SHAFFER came from the pastor's study and took position in front of the pulpit followed by the groom, attended by his best man, Mr Walter E CARLISLE, brother of the bride, and when the bride and groom met at the head of the aisle, Mr CARLISLE presented the groom to the bride, who accepted his arm, and then the best man and maid of honor took position on right and left of the bride and groom. Then all was silence and attention while Dr SHAFFER pronounced the mystic words which made the happy young couple one: husband and wife. The company retired as they had entered, except that all went up the center aisle, and the best man and maid of honor became partners. Mr FAUSETT is a resident of Roanoke and is a business young man of good habits and spotless character; fully trusted and highly esteemed by the entire community. Miss CARLISLE is of Chambers county, Ala., and is a beautiful and amiable young woman; beautiful in both person and life. Both parties belong to old and well known families, and are members of the Baptist church. Their relatives and numerous friends regard them as well mated, and wish for them useful and happy lives. Therefore shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall cleave unto his wife; and they twain shall be one flesh.[] -- Gen 2,24. So mote it be. Amen.
