Jeffersonian Republican. (Stroudsburg, Pa.) 1840-1853: September 28, 1842
Died in Middle Smithfield, Monroe county, on Sunday the 25th inst., Hon. John
Coolbaugh, aged 82 years... For a number of years he was an Associate Judge in Pike
county, previous, and up to, the erection of Monroe county; by which event he passed
out of office. He had been a member of our legislative assembly for the term of five
years. In addition to these testimonials of the confidence of his fellow citizens,

talk of those perilous times. Never will he forget an occasion, when the subject of
this obituary, with one of his compeers, passed a social evening at his house,
rehearsing, in animated discourse, the reminiscences of the Revolution. Never before
had he so vivid a conception of the cost of our liberties, as when they were talking
of the battle of Monmouth, in which they had both shared. The deceased was also in
other battles...
